Sorry, for the newbness. I have tried to read through some threads to get an idea of the correct way to do this. Of course, first time trying to flash a device. I have a Galaxy S9+ 965U. Purchased the phone from U.s. Cellular, but I am switching to a Verizon provider. So if I am reading correct, I am going to want to flash the U1 version onto my device, then I should be able to find a Verizon O.s. here and run that? Or what are my options if using Verizon for service? Sorry if it seems easy to some, but maybe my ADD keeps some of the descriptions/ instructions from sinking in fully. I have seen the thread here on U1 to U conversion, but I haven't seen the Verizon O.s. or do I need to run the Verizon O.s. with Verizon service?

I'm on the same boat, I have an Tmobile S9 and I want to use Verizon on it. Someone please help.
I'm not sure if we have to use a Verizon O.s., or maybe a custom flash from a private party. But honestly I wouldn't know which custom flash would be good or work good without being buggy. If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated.

I believe being that its unlocked, and you are running att software on it, you can root it with the att guides.
When you root you are not changing anything you are just pushing on CWM and SU not system files are being changed.. when you flash ROMs you may want to use the ATT roms because the data and system files being use to pull your service are for the ATT carrier and it might interfere with the sim card.
I don't think the above poster is right. If you bought it from T-Mobile, then it may need the T-Mobile software regardless of which network you are using it on. Someone with more experience may be able to attest either way, but I think I am correct in this. If I'm not, I'll learn something new!
EDIT: I think you need to use the T-Mobile ROM, but you could root it via ATT guides as long as you are using the proper ROM. (Like, don't use Mr. Robinson's ATT JB ROM to root you T-Mobile phone).
to play it safe, i would follow the T-Mobile guides and ROMs.
i have an AT&T version that is unlocked to work with T-Mobile, but i only use the AT&T related stuff.

So, I'm a total beginner with regards to understanding how to mod your cell phone, but I am tech savvy. I've spent the last week of my life attempting to understand how to Sim unlock my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 mini Sph-L520 so that I would be able to use a prepaid Straight Talk wireless card with it. At first, I thought the process was going to be rather simple. I thought I could just buy a code online. Turns out that this phone isn't a GSM phone, so this type of unlocking isn't possible. I next heard as tip about getting my phone flashed, but apparently flashing is just installing another operating system on your phone. Though I could see how that might be able get around the Sim Unlock, if possible I would like to keep this stock OS. Also, I'm not certain if flashing my phone would automatically enable me to use another carrier. I then learned what rooting was. Though I now understand that I could simply use Kingo to root my phone, I don't know how that would allow me to use another carrier. So i've spent my last week or so understanding all this new terminology, but I still don't have a definitive answer. I really want to thank this board for existing because I've learned a tremendous amount just reading these threads. So if anyone could help me out here that would be great!

I did contact sprint, they said that the phone wasn't stolen and that everything was okay. They then transferred me, but told me that they could only give me the msl code. Is that what I need? Would that carrier unlock my phone?

Does the phone have a slot for a SIM card? If so you could try following this thread step by step. Not saying its going to work but its worth a shot. Its also going to depend on what version software your on. You could always pay $30.00 and get a code from CellUnlocker.

I'll attempt it, but the method described is for a regular Galaxy S4. My phone is an S4 mini, would there be any difference?
I attempted this method, and it didn't work. The phone would not let me flash that rom with odin. It failed every time.

All you have to flash is the modem but that will probably fail also since its not for the mini. You have to find a way to get into the service menu for the mini and then it would more than likely work.

Sprint L520 S4 mini is completely unlocked for use of any CDMA 1x/evdo/4G LTE services in the world. Carriers like Smartfren, Intertelekom, Reliance, Tata and MTS will work flawlessly on this phone. Only read its SPC code, make it RUIM only from DFS and insert any CDMA carrier's SIM

International/domestic sim unlock
The GSM portion of the s4 mini can be unlocked .I'm more than sure of it because I have a friend who has his own method .Look up randy unlocks on ebay.He can do it remotely and will call you on the phone and it only takes thirty minutes. I've unlocked plenty of regular Sprint s4's myself ,that process is very easy. The s4 mini would be too if you could find the modems anywhere. He has never told me how he does it but get ahold of him.
Can anyone help me ? Can you back up your radio.img from your unlock phone and send to me ?

Ive done a lot of reading in regards to this. almost every place I read says other roms should flash on device not of those carriers. reason im investigating this is because CM for sprint has all the sms issues. and after reading through all the tmo roms im not seeing anyone mention sms issues. every time I try to flash another carriers rom it reads that they are carrier specific and fail. is there a way I can make another carriers rom flash to sprint. my device is unlocked, though im using a sprint sim for lte and from what im reading also, its just a matter of an apn setting for sprint, and/or a radio flash for sprint. anyways, comments?

I wouldn't flash another carriers roms. it can make your phone brick and just a paper weight. other carriers have different settings and files that our phone doesn't..i don't know how to explain it better but I don't recommend it

That is kind of unfortunate if that's the case that SMS doesn't work right out of the gate on Sprint CM ROM's then. While I have gotten used to it, it does get annoying after a while having to reconfigure using the *#*#4636#*#* method every time.
I have tried to flash a few other carrier based ROMs via TWRP but they typically fail anyways (which is probably a good thing). I don't think I've ever actually successfully flashed another carrier based ROM through TWRP.

You can't just flash a tmobile rom on this device. It sounds like to me you need to get your phone unlocked to use tmobile sim. I would suggest http://www.idoneapps.com to sim unlock your phone.
I have no idea what you mean by password screen. What firmware are you on? How did you root your phone? Did you turn off reactivation lock?
I can try to help you but i need to know more detail of your problem. And do understand I'm limited on time i spend here. I'll check back when i can.

I believe that anyone that bought a US unlocked phone directly from HTC was/is able to use it with Verizon out of the box, correct?
If so, why do I need/want to flash the Verizon radio to get a working phone after converting to the US unlocked version from the Verizon version I purchased?
I assume "normal" people that bought the unlocked phone are not flashing the Verizon radio.

The unlocked HTC 10 doesn't support Verizon, it never has.
In order to use it on Verizon, people have always flashed the Verizon radio or firmware (which includes the radio). I don't know why HTC did it like this, but that's the way it is.
Sources:
HTC site saying what carriers the dev/unlocked HTC 10 supports.
Verizon is not listed.
The (possibly original) thread on the topic.
tl;dr for us lazy folk: No, it's ALWAYS been like that. The dev/unlocked HTC 10 has never supported Verizon and has never worked properly with Verizon out of the box.

Ehhh, same to me.
If you don't need WiFi calling, VoLTE or whatever go for any of the custom ROMs if you are into that.
I recommend Viper10.
Thanks. I'm currently running leedroid, but will try viper10. I've read he has advanced calling working already. Either way, I'll check it out.

He does and I can see it.
The video option is grayed out, but it is also not on my plan so that might not be the ROMs fault.

My insurance has sent me me a brand new unlocked note 10 plus when I am on att. I'd like to flash to att firmware to regain some functionality . I do have a provisioned att sim and IMEI. If someone can walk me through it and answer my questions I would love to tip you or donate to xda, whichever is preferred. I tried searching but there is a lot of info to wad through and I want to make sure I'm on the latest version as well.
In addition to how to do this, I was wondering how do future updates work? Would those have to be manual as well?

You have a few different threads on this, it would be helpful to keep your posts on this in one thread.
The way to use Odin and flash firmware is the same as the link below. The only difference is the firmware you will be using (for that you will need to look for the correct one, but your getting help on that in another thread I saw).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80074891&postcount=1
And when adding files to the correct spots it's not that hard really. When you download the firmware and extract it you will find individual files that start with letters like "AP" "BL" "CP" "CSC"... you just put those in the correct spots in odin. Just be sure to do a factory data reset before and after flashing the firmware. Doing the FDR before will remove the FRP lock. Doing the FDR after will ensure that things run smoothly and that you will be able to download OTA updates.
The appdata will be the harder one to find, you may need to ask if someone can post that here on the forum.
But let me ask... Is this because you don't have things like VoLTE, WiFi calling, etc? If this is the case then this won't work. AT&T uses an IMEI whitelist that allows only phones that they have sold to be provisioned for those features. Unless your phone is one that is on that whitelist then you will not be able to get those features.
Some people have tried using an old AT&T phone, activating it and then swapping the sim (or something similar)... But this doesn't always work or it doesn't work for very long. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with AT&T over this subject, and they won't budge one bit.
