Stuck on ''Samsung Galaxy S9'' logo after flashing Custom ROM - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi guys!
I can root my Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F Exynos variant, build no.: G960FXXU2BRGA, latest build from sammobile). When I want to flash a custom ROM like LineageOS or Resurrektion Remix through TWRP, it remains on the ''Samsung Galaxy s9'' logo after wiping cache and data and rebooting to system.
Before installing any ROM, I wipe the cache, install the ROM, and wipe cache, and then reboot to system. No matter what ROM I flash, it always remains on the logo. I am also able to flash the stock ROM through Odin and install the TWRP in downloading mode and root the device again, but can't flash any custom ROM.
Am I doing something wrong? I appreciate your help!
Thanks in advance!

Update you twrp recovery

I am on the latest build, which is 3.2.3-0.

Had the same issue. Flash bre5 firmware via twrp.
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=272468

I'm having the same issue. I think it's because I'm not on the correct firmware version though. I keep reading that I need to be on BRE5; which I'm currently downloading from updato.com.

How do I flash that via twrp?

Download file from link and reboot to twrp and flash. Phone should boot. If not clean flash.

It doesn't allow me to select the file from the install menu. The download ends with .tar not .zip, so it isn't displaying in the TWRP Install Menu's file explorer. Choosing Install image doesn't make a difference either.

May I ask in this thread for my own problem?
SM-G960F/DS,
After installing TWRP lastest version, backing up, wipe data, cache, dalvik I installed LineageOS, opengapps and addonsu, rebooted to system and now the screen stucks with the samsung galaxy s9 logo. I am not able to turn off the device since more than 30 minutes. Now I'm waiting for the battery to get empty and then try to reboot into TWRP

Do a battery pull power off by pressing and holding the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or until the phone boots up. Between the restart hold the keys to get into TWRP recovery and it'll boot into that. Once there follow the instructions above.

Thanks, well I tried those key combinations with no success
...however, I found the following key combination to restart the phone: POWER + VOLUME DOWN + "homebutton" (at the bottom of the touchscreen, where you would find the home button in older phones)
pressing this combination several seconds restarted the phone. After that I FIRST had to go into download-mode, and after that I could finally enter recovery !!! hurray. Trying to enter recovery at once was not possible. However, now I will try to install.

But after that my problem now is when i restart my device it boots on twrp recovery. When i reboot system it also goes back to twrp mode. What is this problem? Any fix for this? Thanks everyone.

To flash in TWRP you need to flash it as an image, the option is in there. It will allow you to flash an older or newer version when with in TWRP.

Until then i decided to try the aokp rom 05/21 nightly build, and after that i flash also a modified boot logo to get rid of the unlock bootloader warning iflash it using fastboot commamd but when i power it on and set up the aokp rom everything goes well but then i need to restart my phone then the problem now is appearing. It directly boot in twrp recovery.

Moto G5 automatically boots into TWRP

Hey guys, hello there. I need a little help over here.
The other day I made the mistake to install an OTA on my rooted Moto G5 (dual SIM). I had the stock image, TWRP & unlocked bootloader. Of course it failed to install the OTA, but the weird thing is that it always boots to TWRP recovery. No matter if I choose to reboot completely or to boot to system from the TWRP reboot menu, it always goes back to TWRP.
Tried a few things, but none of them worked. Mainly I remember trying the "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear" and did nothing. I didn't try this solution even though problem looks similar. Mainly I didn't want to have to unlock the bootloader and install recovery all over again.
Later I discovered that if I go to the bootloader and hit START from there, boots into OS. So it is functional.
Anyway, I installed Atomic OS ROM thinking I'll get rid of the problem and gain a custom ROM, and everything works, but the problem stays. If I reboot the phone, I have to do TWRP -> Bootloader -> System in order to get it to the OS.
Anyone has any idea on how to fix it?
I have the same problem, it comes back to recovery all the time and we can tell you about it, some help please

Hi, I've come back, hahaha, I installed resurrection remix 7.1, previous all the wipes and reboot in bootloader I gave start and started, great.
I had this problem trying to install the rom ViperOS. I solved it with one of these steps:
- Boot into Fastboot, select "Start" with volume Keys.
- Flash "boot.img" directly from the zip that is ROM, do this using a PC.
- If you're using stock rom, reflash boot.img
Greetings

Have you tried to boot from Fastboot?
Yes, it works once...
But if I have to restart it (or turn off and start with the power button), the phone boot always in recovery.
It is then necessary to restart fastboot then press "start".

I have the same issue. But the suggestions posted wouldn't help me. I have the stock ROM and I'm rooted with Magisk using TWRP recovery. I want to keep the stock ROM and don't want to go through the trouble of backing my data again. So, I was wondering if there was any work around. Would flashing the stock ROM, Boot and recovery without deleting user data partition help??

You can flash TWRP two ways, either directly from an existing TWRP install, using the linked TWRP.img file. Or you can flash using Odin and the TWRP.tar file.
You will need a custom kernel with dm-verity disabled to be able to boot up afterwards. You will also need to disable encryption and format data to be able to read from the sdcard (encryption isn't supported).
The flashing process is as follows.
Get yourself onto stock Pie firmware, using Odin to flash the complete package. Before proceeding. Boot up and make sure you have OEM unlock switch and its activated.
1. Boot into Download mode and Flash TWRP (Download) using Odin (use AP)
2. Immediately boot into TWRP after flashing takes place, hold vol up and power.
3. Format data partition (wipe/format data)
4. Reboot recovery
5. Copy WETA Kernel + Encryption disabler + Magisk zip to device. - (Download Kernel - Encryption disabler)
6. Flash WETA Kernel + Encrypt disabler + Magisk zip.
7. Boot up system, if it hangs on Samsung logo after 3min perform hard reboot.
8. Connect to internet and go to dev settings and check oem unlock is present before any rebooting.
** Custom kernel is universal for all bootloader v4 firmware.

Have you flashed a custom kernel? Or at least flashed magisk?
You cant boot using a stock kernel, when you have any other custom features on your device.

Encryption Disabler was broken
Updated to V2, please use this or there will be problems.
See post #2 for downloads.

1. Boot into Download mode and Flash TWRP (Download) using Odin
2. Immediately boot into TWRP after flashing takes place, hold vol up and power.
3. Format data partition (wipe/format data)
4. Reboot recovery
5. Copy Encryption disabler and WETA_Kernel or WETA_Rom to device - (Download Enryption disabler) (Download WETA_Kernel)
6. Flash Encryption disabler, Flash WETA_Kernel or WETA_Rom
7. Boot up system, if it hangs on Samsung logo after 3min perform hard reboot.
8. Connect to internet and go to dev settings and cheeck oem unlock is present before any rebooting.
**Custom kernel is pre-rooted with magisk.
**You will need to manually install magisk manager app.

Some things to note:
0. Requirements are:
USB Cable (Samsung Tab S4 default cable recommended)
A computer where Odin works (ie. my AM4 X370 Ryzen 7 system did not work, maybe some driver issue?)
Best is to put encryption disabler & Kernel onto the micro SD card in the Tab S4 already, you can flash from SD card in TWRP!
1. Flash TWRP in AP slot - beware if you did not untick Auto Reboot, it will immediately restart and you miss 2.
2. Hold those buttons before the vibration kicks in, otherwise you are too late
4. I couldn't do that from TWRP itself for some reason (it just shut off), but button combo worked perfectly
5. [Edit] Do that before hand, I recommend the micro SD card you can put into the Tab S4
6. I flashed encryption disabler (V2) first, then you have to flash the kernel image, flash it to BOOT!
7. Don't just wait 3 min, my Tablet booted after 10 min without issue! I had this before aswell, you just need to give it more time!
Question: Can I update Magisk with this?

Yeah flashing magisk should be fine once your data partition is unencrypted.

Unable to flash custom ROM

Hello,
I am unable to flash a custom ROM on my note 9 pro (joyeuse), I tried xiaomi.eu, havocos, evolutionx, lineageos, etc.
Also tried every possible recovery, no matter what I do when I hit system reboot, I land on the fastboot screen.
Followed the procedure, format data, wipe dalvik/cache tried disabling encryption, flash magisk, I'm out of ideas.
please help.
Logs would help.
Or even screenshots of any errors.

Follow rom install guide to the letter (and no extra steps either). If unsuccessful ask in the rom thread. You didn't have to open a new thread mentioning all these roms. It's hard to help you because each rom has a different procedure.
I've already tried everything.
Either bootloop or fastboot screen.
I followed the instructions exactly.
I would like to install Lineage-OS
have you unlocked your bootloader?

After installing TWRP are you immediately and succesfully rebooting to TWRP recovery before doing anything else? - if you do not do that, then you can end up back at MIUI recovery.

No need use recovery, Just download this gsi rom(https://sourceforge.net/projects/he...5011-HBTRIA-10-12-2020-GSI-Aonly.7z/download) and extract the 7z file, rename the extracted rom as system.img ,and type in fastboot cmd:
fastboot flash system C:\system.img, Which“ C:\system.img ” should be replaced by your rom's directory.
for powershell type .\fastboot flash C:\system.img
then fastboot reboot
I do not trust myself.
The last time always bootloop.
Can someone give me step by step instructions.
for example:
1. Wipe ...
2. do not Format ...
...
F**k off
Mi Recovery again.
