Pixel XL Pie connects to USB3 at USB2 speed only - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I just realized my Pixel XL - verizon, unlocked bootlader, TRWP, Pie - is connecting to Windows only at USB 2.0 (high speed) rather than 3.0 (super speed).
I am using type A blue 3.0 socket with correct drivers on Windows side (external HDD etc have no problems), and I am trying both the stock Google cable (which has a white type A plug to be fair?!) and also a Benson-approved "Veckle" USB type-A 3.0 (blue) to USB-C cable.
I tried putting the phone USB mode in both file-transfer and "no data" (for debugging) but no difference.
I'm verifying this using USB Device Tree Viewer, I will dump the report below, but it's clear from file transfer speeds that it's way too slow @ 30 MB/s write & read.

This sucks as one reason I chose the Pixel was it's USB 3.0 support, as opposed to certain other dismal implementations of USB-C with only 2.0 transfer! and I want to be able to get video off the phone at maximal speed.
Any input?

You sure it's not the phone's internal memory bottlenecking the transfer? A phone doesn't work like a flash drive, there's a lot more going on. The OS has to run the process to copy the file from internal storage and over USB to the PC. A flash drive just plugs in and gets read/written, with virtually no overhead for handling processes like those.
Also, using adb should be considerably faster than MTP for file transfers. I've also read that some people have better luck with a USB C to USB C cable rather than USB A to USB C.

I'm sure it's connecting at USB 2.0 as above, despite every hardware component being USB 3.0.
I was measuring that throughput using adp push/pull actually, but it's the same with MTP.
I don't know what the speeds would be with USB 3.0 but I presume they should be at least a bit faster! I can't try a USB-C to C cable just now as my PC doesn't have a socket.

Serial cable instead USB ? UART...

As I'm new to Samsung handsets...
Someone tried to play with serial cable and Qualcomm Tools like Memory Debug for instance?
Download Mode not allow USB Diag for Qualcomm... only Samsung Modem is still alive in Download Mode. So Question is. If serial cable, maybe chance to dump something as you can port to UART...

I use usb->serial-ttl 3.3V converter with 528K resistor on pins 4-5 for outputing diag message. And you need JIG with 301K resistor for entering to download mode.

Thanx for this info, but tooo difficult for me to understand.
Please help to make such cable for research... or maybe their are existing cables to buy?

You mean cable/plug for enter download mode? You can buy it. For example in Poland I can buy this for 12 zlotys = 3 euro + delivery costs.
I found that, for Galaxy S, but is possible this is the same

I "need" alternate cable for communication between PC and S8500.
Also FULL Pinout is welcome.

Other idea is to solder direct to RX TX and GND on PCB... instead resistor...
Maybe...

This is my solution for now... with S8500. Tested by me.
In theory should work with S8530 too...
Later I will move to cable solution with Micro USB + Resistor...
Then hopefully this is working also with S8600 and S5250 for instance...
Best Regards
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41670635&postcount=5
In this FPM Mode... I can use AT Commands via UART...
So for now I can read and write something via UART...
Later more...
Best Regards
Made today few stupid mistakes....
510 R instead K...
Then confuse Pin 4 and 5 ...
I have 510 KOHM, but nothing happens...
Maybe not correct enough...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275
Code:
RID_FM_BOOT_ON_UART, /* 1 1 1 0 1 [B]619K[/B] Factory Mode Boot ON-UART */
I have used 620 KOHM with S8500 and S8600...
Factory Test Mode start ... this thingie with blue then green Screen... but nothing UART out nor input...
Maybe my wires wrong...
Will buy more Resistors...
Best Regards
Edit 1.
No idea yet, where is my mistake...
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...own-motorola-factory-cable-4.html#post2234017
Backside Pinout...
I have now 510 KOHM + 13 KOHM = 523 KOHM...
Flashed to XXJEB to be sure...
Edit 2.
Check up...
My USB converter is alive...
Pin 4 and 5 should be correct, because Resistor Values working...
Will change Pin 2 and 3...
My fault...
For S8530 and S8500 now working.

[Q] Defy Linux USB tethering

Hello,
I have a problem with my Motorola Defy cell phone.
I want to connect it via usb and use it as a modem with wvdial. The problem is, when connecting the usb it only registers as a mass storage:
Code:
usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
scsi12 : usb-storage 2-1:1.0

lsusb:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 011: ID 22b8:41db Motorola PCS Droid/Milestone (Debug mode)
No tty device gets created and there is no new device in "ifconfig -a"
I tested all usb connecting modes from the phone and also tried it with USB debugging.
Does anybody know how to ignore the mass storage and just use the modem? (usbnet is loaded)
Thanks.
I think that you need anyway some sort of app running on the phone (as example easytether) to do that; with other words I don't think you can directly access the phone internal modem.
PS: I'm currently using easytether + debian squeeeze.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
You have to activate debugging - then Defy will export appropriate USB interfaces and endpoints:

However, UDEV does not recognise it as network interface on the spot
because of (my speculation):
Code:
bDeviceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
bDeviceSubClass 255 Vendor Specific Subclass
bDeviceProtocol 255 Vendor Specific Protocol
So udev rules need tweaking, and I did not found how to do it yet
(debugging android layouts is much easier)
Hi,
Did you succeed with the udev rules ?
I have a milestone2 and under archlinux it's the same problem, the interface is not detected.
Thanks
I solved it with the app azilink which is opensource and free: code.google.com/p/azilink/
Works perfect!
Greetings!

[Q] ADB not recognizing my G2

Hey folks,
I'm trying to retrieve a crash log (at home) for a friend of mine and I've having a hell of a time trying to get my Ubuntu 11.10 install with the latest/greatest Android SDK (ADB) to recognize my G2. I can mount the sd card just fine, but adb never recognizes the device. I'm trying this through eclipse, btw. Trying 'adb devices' in console also nets no devices.
I have done the following:
Created /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules ; chmod a+r /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0502", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1004", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="22b8", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0fce", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0489", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM==”usb”, ATTRS{idVendor}==”18d1″, SYMLINK+=”android_adb”, MODE=”0666″
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666", GROUP="plugdev
Restarted UDEV
Rebooted
Disabled / Enabled / Disabled USB debugging on my phone
Changed cables
Changed USB ports
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Eclipse/ADT recognizes there is an emulator running when I run an emulator, but since I can't get the emulator to crash with this app, that doesn't help me in this situation. Using this same cable/device combo on a MBP, Eclipse sees the device just fine, but since this is my home/development box, I'd really like ym Ubuntu install to work with my phone.
What have I completely missed or overlooked here?
Maybe kill the emulator, and/or try running adb as root.
-Nipqer
it may not be the problem with udev (if u don't touch the udev things at all, sudo adb device will still shows the device.)
try the command `dmesg', see if the last lines tells anything.
then `lsusb -v`, to see if the usb system recognized ur phone.
paste the result if u still don't figure that out.
Still haven't figured this out!

I have also tried killing ADB server, then relaunching it as root (as well as on a fresh boot). Neither were able to show my device using sudo adb devices. Again, I can plug this into my macbook pro running the latest sdk, eclipse & ADT - adb devices sees it and I can see the device and view logs via DDMS in eclipse.
hm... i use adb in another distribution (fedora 16).
what does it show when you type adb devices? no permission and a lot of "????????"
i solved this issue doing this:
1. su then password (i think ubuntu its sudo)
2. adb kill-server
3. adb start-server
4. adb devices ...now the phone should show up.
for ubuntu it's "sudo su" then password to be sure it will keep root for a while.
I've notice the same thing at home since updates. but if I launch DDMS, it shows up....
I'll take a look at this this week end
sudo adb devices / sudo su -> adb devices doesn't show my device. This is on a fresh boot and sudo adb devices launches the adb server. The only output from adb devices is 'List of devices attached'. No question marks or device data is shown after that - it's as if nothing is plugged in.
It has to do with the pathway. Make sure you put your files in the right folder. Fix permissions. And have the drivers.

What is the "pathway"? Also, what files are you talking about? What permissions? What drivers? I've never used any special drivers in previous installs of Ubuntu - it's just worked - nor have I had to change permissions outside of the android rules file in the udev folder.

Request - Linux users

I need the vid and pid of the Kindle Fire in fastboot mode so I can manually configure my VM's USB, again. TIA
[Edit:]Better yet, the output of lsusb for the Kindle Fire (only) in fastboot would be perfect.

Those values are dependent on the bootloader. Output from "lsusb -v" I had in my notes...

Yeah, VMware still refuses to detect the device in fastboot, no matter what I do. I got the Mac to detect it again though. Restoring a backup fixed it, but I have no idea why it stopped working in the first place.
I still need to get VMware to detect, so if anyone has had luck in that regard, I would greatly appreciate any information provided.

stuck in fastboot after trying to root

helloy guys I have 6.3.1 when I tried to root with kindle fire utility after installing the drivers (I dont have sdk) from KINDLE FIRE DRIVER when the kf rebooted into fastboot the kf utility says waiting for device and the computer not recognized the device so what should I do please hurry up this isn't my device and I his owner want it in less than 5 hours
Ok forget about Windows and create a Linux LiveUSB using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31449443
You shouldn't have any trouble with adb or fastboot commands, unless it is an un-rooted stock device, then you'll have to use Pokey9000's fbmode or a factory programming cable to enable fastboot.
Okay it's unrooted stock 6.3.1 and I have a linux computer
what I should do in linux with my kindle fire (first time to connect it to my kf)
I'm in the fastboot now with first time connecting it to computer and missed drivers oooooh a lot of problems I think I have drivers because the kfu said online when connecting it
Please walk with me step by step
Run SoupKit, then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25730650
Okay I'm in fastboot now I will go to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25730650
if yes which one I should do?
Also I cannot push files with adb commands because I'm in fb mode

Use fastboot to install recovery and boot into recovery to send adb commands.
I know that but fastboot commands cannot catch my device
is this driver problems or there is custom commands I'm using
fastboot -i 0x1949 devices
and this shows nothing
Please help me I'm beginner
Did you run SoupKit?
Not yet
so you mean i will download soupkit then run the fastboot commands within it right?
No. Download SoupKit in Linux.
Read the SoupKit thread in it's entirety.
Extract the SoupKit
Follow the directions in the README
when I run this after installing soup kit
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
I get waiting for devices
is there any drivers for linux
SoupKit installs the appropriate drivers for Linux. Enter the following command and paste the output here.
lsusb -v
this is the output
