Does anybody has problem with proximity sensor in Android Pie?
For me it stops work after half day and only reboot helps. In Oreo I haven't this problem
I've gotten this problem during calls
Update: proximity sensor stop work in phone app. With other apps its works without problem.
Interesting. Has worked for me but I've only made a handful of calls since going to Pie.

new update: looks like I found why proximity stops work. I use Cube Call Recorder and this app after a couple calls "kills" proximity sensor in dialer app. I removed Cube and now everything ok.
I'm having this problem too, but I don't have any sort of call recording app. Randomly it just refuses to put the screen to sleep when I'm on a call. Really frustrating.
Same issue here, since few days I have notice that the proximity sensor during phone calls will not turn off the screen, only reboot restores sensor functionality that's annoying, also I have this pixel 2xl for 2weeks this is an irritating issue. Hope help comes soon.
P.S
No new software has been installed on this phone that I have not used on my previous phones essential ph1 and Samsung Galaxy S8.
Cheers.
Couldn't find this thread earlier.
I'm also facing the same issue now. Android Pie.
Anyone found a Solution?

Hello,
my wife and I both have a Pixel C because it is very convenient for surfing etc.
Yesterday I realized the ambient light sensor on mine stopped working (adaptive brightness not working) and today on my wifes Pixel nearly all sensors stopped working (screen rotation, compass, ... not working).
Using the app "Sensors Multitool" on her tablet I only get those menu entries: "Battery", "WIFI", "Light" and "Distance" (translated names from german). Those are all working.
On my own Pixel I get many more (e.g. Gyroscope, Acceleromator, ...). Light and distance are shown but both receive no useful/no values from the sensors. All others beside of those two are working.
I already tried to factory reset and wipe cache on my wifes tablet - not working
Any further ideas? To me it sounds like hardware defect on both tablets..
There was an update to the secondary processor (EC) code with the Feb OTA, so its possible that its a software glitch - assuming you have updated. Judging from the current known issues, there seems to be some source of variation which makes testing some of this software tricky...
I flashed the old version (6.0.1 (MXB48J)) but sadly it didn't work I guess this also downgrades the code for the EC? Any further ideas? Looks like we've got to send both of them back for a replacement....
Flashing the latest Android N Dev Preview fixed the sensors for me!!
My wifes Pixel got replaced without any problems So everything good from our side.
I have been hard resting my phone over and over again, sometimes it fixes it but after 2-3 hours the proximity sensor and rotate stop working all together, I have been attempting to flash my phone because I think it's a software issue, this started randomly happening for no reason, I was on lolipop before but i decided to update my phone to see if it fixes the issue. I tried to recalibrate my rotate sensor but the option is not there when it stops working. I am on t-mobile and I have no warranty, i bought this device off ebay. My OS is marshmallow 6.0.0.
Is there a fix to this issue or something?

Thankyou
I have used android O developer preview and downgraded to android 7.1.2 nut now motion sensor is not working.
How to fix the problem
My Nexus 5x was on the DP2 for almost 2 weeks (very satisfied with it), but after updating some apps on Saturday evening i was in a bootloop. Remedied, after updating again my 50+ apps (including Google apps) again bootloop. So i opted out of beta, and am back on 7.12. All radio fine, but sensors not working. I did a factory reset and everything is working fine.
factory reset fixes
Hi this exact situation happened to me only a day earlier. So happy to find this forum post. The factory reset fixed the issue for me too.
Dang, I was hoping there to be another solution then FSR.
Check to see if your Voicemail apps have anything to do with it. I had this problem and fixed it by disabling my voicemail app from shutting the screen when motion sensor is applicable.
Hi guys, after Nougat update on my SM-A720F proximity sensor stooped working.
When i make a call screen isn't off, it stays normal, I tried calibration app from google play, it helps for one or two calls and then screen stays on again.
There were no issues on previous firmware, i regret that i updated my phone. Guys help me, i don't want to play with firmwares, untill it's a safe way to go on previous (Android 6)
Thanks!
It happens on A5 2017 too. Restart your phone and it will work again. 7.0 isn't really perfect, still got a few bugs/glitches.
Anyone else experiencing proximity sensor issues with the SM-A520 (A5 2017) either with stock ROM or Lineage OS 14.1 ROM? Since flash over to Linage 14.1 (from stock), the screen does not reliably go, or remain, black when held up side your face while on an active call. Cheek touches result in inadvertent button pushes. Downloaded an app for that and it re-calibrates the phone each boot (non-rooted). Now the proximity sensor works quite well.
Anyone else having the issue?
Any better "answers" than a non-rooted third party app.
Kind regards,
/S
I have the same issue. A5 2018 Oreo Stock ROM but as far as my memory serves me right the issue occured on Nougat as well. It looks like the proximity sensor is too sensitive... is there any tool so that we could calibrate it without any third parties? What solution works for you, s2scotty?
