Hi. Dont jump on me for those questions but couldnt find anything here on xda nor google helped me.
So here it is.
Just bought my Note 8. GT-N5110. It has Android 4.1.2 and build version JZO54K.N5110XXBMD1. Not rooted
As I know 4.2.2 is available I wanted to update. But OTA says I am up to date.
I tried then Kies. I have all the drivers uptodate and Kies version uptodate as well. When I connect my Note it is recognized but it seems that Kies doesnt read everything what it should.
It doesnt show the firmware version at all.
When I am trying to check for firmware updates all I get is mssg:
GT-N5110 does not support initialising.
I also tried sammobile. But cuz I couldnt determine which version of Note 8 I have and didnt know which firmware to pick up and installed their apk.
It should check for me everything but I am getting only
Model GT-N5110
Product code. - nothing
PDA N5110XXBMD1
CSC N5110CCBMD1
Modem - nothing
After hitting GET LATEST receiving only mssg - No info foun for the provided firmware.
So my questions are:
- How can I determine is the firmware update available for my Note or not yet?
- How can I determine which version of Note do I have? I bought it on amazon.co.uk so I think it is European version but are there country specific version as well for WIFI only model?
- Which firmware should I download from sammobile to stay "legal" lets say. UK? Dont want to root at the moment.
Any help really appreciated.
cheers

Hi.
I have the same version. (Settings, System, About (or something like that at the bottom) and then in the buildnumber there is the version.
Mine is rooted so i can't do OTA and it doesn't find an update.
I guess since there isn't any 4.2.2 version on sammobile, there doesnt exist any yet for our build.
Greetings
Chris
Thanks for that.
Decided to root so wont worry anymore about OTA or KIES updates.

From this link you can get to know about the latest available firmware for your device Model & Product Code. See image 1.
And this link will give you info about all the firmware released for the same. See image 2.
Is the tablet you bought is a used one? Because if it is brand new, then the PDA should be N5110XXBMC9, which is the first release. Also missing Product code can mean something very wrong.

is current xperia z1c lollipop still have memory leak issue ?
I used lollipop for 2 days already. and it always restart my game (minimized to background) after I open browser to use google (yeah only 2 recent apps displayed. chrome and game apps).
I hate this because my game need long time and heavy bandwidth at loading screen. I never get this problem when I used kitkat. I heard there's xposed module to fix this memory leak issue but my phone isnt rooted.
or is there a way to return to default OS (kitkat) like when I first bought it ? maybe I'll do this way. reset it to kitkat again. but I dont know how.
thanks.
You can flash stock kitkat with flashtool. I should have stock EU . 157 rom somewhere on my pc and can upload it if you want.
Flashing stock rom is pretty easy. Watch a tutorial or something. I can help you a bit more when back home.
Back to your question. I have no idea I'm still running kitkat as L is still not available in my country.

is it working to use your stock rom at my country ? I thought different country have different kind of rom. not sure about this if this is true or not.
flashing stock rom doesnt need root access, right ? and maybe can I also backup current lollipop OS that I have so I can reflash it when it has been fixed ?.
so far what I like from lollipop is when someone call me, I can still use other app because call notification only use small box on top of my current running app. I like this feature very much.
It depends where do you live. If in EU it should be fine. If not I can find a rom good for your location.
No, flashing custom rom does not require rooted device.
I think you don't have to do the backup as you'll be able to just update it again ( at least I think so)

Yes. But you dont have to backup the OS. You can download the Firmware using the XperiaFirm Tool >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
And here is how to convert the files >> http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/

wow this is nice info. I've just tried using that xperiafirm tool and it shows my country firmware.
Generally you can root your phone without unlocking bootloader. It worked for me, at least on kitkat. I'm not sure what about the Lollipop though.
You should better ask someone else too as I'm not as experienced and don't want to give you false info.
But if there's pre-rooted rom here and it's working for android L you don't have to unlock bootloader to flash it.

okay I can get lollipop with root+xposed (all day tried this. I read some tutorial how to do it properly because this is my 1st time doing something like this. so tired ). although I dont know if xposed wont work perfectly like you said because I only use 3 modules so far. App Settings (keep screen on for game I'm playing) and Fix Lollipop Memory Leak and gravitybox (LP).
what I've done :
- downloaded kitkat 14.4.A.0.157 from XperiFirm. and flashed it using flashtool.
- I've realized .0157 can't be rooted for now. so I've used your link that you gave (Root FW 14.4.A.0.157 (LB/UBL) ).
- after get root access, then I installed recovery using Z1C-lockeddualrecovery2.8.11-RELEASE.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com/
- after that I flashed 14.5.A.0.242_CustomizedFR_Pre-Rooted_Dualrecovery 2.8.10 + Fix Xposed for Lollipop using recovery.
- and flashed Massive debloating and Xposed. links and procedure are also from that pre-rooted rom thread.
so far, no bootloop. dont know if I add some xposed modules again. I heard it will get bootloop if too many xposed modules is installed (?)

Hey there, the XperiFirm dev here.
No one answered your question so I will. The answer is: No.
Sony made sure to include the memory leak fix built in (the exact fix that the Xposed module offers) for their Lollipop releases. The Xposed module is pointless.
See attached screenshot. Basically the Xposed module replaces the AOSP function with exactly the same function but with this additional "release()" line. As you can see, Xperia already has this line included.

wow thanks to coming here :victory:
lol. so it's pointless to install that module because they are same thing exactly. time to uninstall.
actually my game is still restarted after I browsing a little. although I still see a lot of free memory in here. before, I thought this is because of that memory leak issue but I'm wrong.
if only there's module that can prevent lollipop refresh/restart/clear my game at memory when I minimized it at background.
I have the same problem, only with audio apps in the background. Pocket Casts, Stitcher and BeyondPod all crash and stop playing when running in the background, after I do something else like load the game Threes. This never used to happen with KitKat. I've also noticed that iplayer radio gets very jerky and skips back and forth by a quarter of a second continuously as soon as I turn off the screen. [edit - I just listened to it for a few minutes with the screen off and it suddenly cut out. I turned the screen on an the app was no longer in my notifications tray]
If Sony fixed this particular memory leak, what's going wrong with my phone? Could it be related to the fact that I've encrypted if for the first time? I'm getting desperate enough to consider factory resetting and losing everything, because listening to podcasts and playing threes is one of my favourite activities. It's not a demanding game for my year old, top of the line phone. My cheap tablet manages it, and so did the phone on KitKat!

Yes it's possible but we need to flash on top our (tmobile) kernel.
I also can't find our tmobile frimeware tar (for odin in case of bootloop)
Damn....booooooring
Hmm I'm downloading the TMO firmware from SamsungUpdate to start, but it's gonna take another 6 hours because of their metered connection -_-.
We'll see how that works out, but ideally I'd be 100% debloated and rooted with Samsung Pay working.
Don't think that'll be possible, but at least we're dealing with unlocked bootloader devices haha

Guys, the phone is running great!
Updating for the sake of updating isn't always a good thing when out of the box it's actually working well!
When a device has problems there are threads everywhere of complaints. When a device works things are quiet usually with just the usual how to question. Of course everyone wants root, when it comes it comes. Be patient!

I do not believe you have to do anything.
While yes, both are version 5.1.1, if you look at the last 4 digits of your firmware build number you should see AOGD. The new firmware build number ends in AOH2, showing this is a newer build date. Nothing major, probably just a few under the hood changes, which usually means a liitle better performance.

what about the root-ability?
If you are rooted on an older firmware, and you flash a stock rom via Odin you will lose your root access. So long as your phone model can be/is rooted on your current firmware, after you flash the newer firmware just follow the same steps to root your phone again.

any differences between the OS Firmware, Build Number, or Baseband?
Am I just missing it, or is there no root or recovery ability for the 915A?
Marshmallow 6.0.1 ****ed mine up when it got pushed down, and Samsung's backup software (all 3 of them) failed to capture my apps and settings properly. Really wish I could've had a better backup ability.
Does or has anyone checked to see if the update to MM 6.0.1 has unlocked the bootloader on the SM-N915A like the Verizon variant?
How does one check?
Att have not released any M updates.
Mine updated to 6.0.1 the same day I bought it . Several small updates happened first. 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 then a small one, and finally 6.0.1. Since I had just bought it, resetting was a simple thought. But so far, no problems, I bought a PowerBear to make it last longer. :fingers-crossed:
Mine had a lot of issues after being updated. MMS didn't work at all. SMS worked sporadically, but would sometimes delete whole threads. Couldn't get a signal in many spots. Google Play Services wouldn't run and couldn't be fixed. Tried a cache-wipe and every other non-destructive method, but nothing worked. Ended up having to factory-reset, and since then the phone works as it should, but none of the backup methods captured key settings. Basically all it did was save contacts and APK's. Lost my 2-factor keys and everything.
I am with you! Since the update to MM, phone has been very laggy/unresponsive. Lock screen lights up for no reason sporadically and I have LOTS of dropped calls/deadspots. VERY irritating! I wish this release would have been tested a bit more before it was OTA pushed out
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-yea...-dirty-cow-can-root-every-version-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet.
Could someone make this Windows compatible? http://androiding.how/dirty-cow-root-android/

Anything new?
Hi Guys,
I have switching roms in these few months. Recently, I tried to use back the stock rom N7105XXUFOB2. Everything went normal until I found 2 problems:
1. imei is blank with /01 when typing *#06#, but baseband was shown and I can still get the network. (My mistake for not backing up the efs folder)
2. GPS not found, tried with google map and waze but same issue. Tried with gps status also to no solution. (No satellite at all)
Then, I went for customs rom, GPS works and network works as per normal but with imei blank and baseband display. Anyone got idea on how to resolve it?
Appreciated if anyone can help.
Where did you get the stock ROM? Is that the latest stock ROM for the phone?
I found these stock ROMs: https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?exact=1&q=GT-N7105

I have forgotten where I downloaded it. But definitely not sammobile as it requires user login.
Below is the version I use.
PDA/AP Version: N7105XXUFOB2
CSC Version: N7105OLBFOD1
MODEM/CP Version: N7105XXUFNI2
Region: Singapore (singtel)
Are you saying that the stock rom I am downloading is not genuine or somehow corrupted?
Is that possible that imei blank, baseband still around and mobile signal works as per normal? Because I am facing it. lol.
By the way, in 4.4.2, is there anyway to do screen mirroring to samsung tv? Firstly, it mentions 'Unable to Start Screen Mirroring because of Hardware Issues'. Then I checked online and edit build.prop file by adding in “wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable“. Then the hardware issue quote is gone but the tv screen is blank.
I would flash the latest stock ROM from updato.com.
I'm not sure how you can get any cell or data service from your carrier without success valid IMEI.

Ya, it is very weird. But just to confirm again. If I reflash the rom from the website you mentioned, Is that possible to fix the blank imei issue? I think it is going to be 50-50.
I have tried googled this issue, I found some said to change imei using mtk tool, does it apply to galaxy note 2 as it mentioned works for Mediatek devices and not sure about others?
Just a friendly reminder that XDA does not permit any discussions related to changing an IMEI.
Flashing the latest stock ROM will sometimes being back the IMEI.

Understood. I found the same rom in updato, just wonder why some roms with same android version but different pda version so late? (Eg, France (Orange) (FTM), N7105XXUFQH1, 4.4.2- 17 Sept 2017)
Is it just because the rom is being updated late in updato?
Different ROMs for different regions and carriers. Not all ROMs have the same languages too.

Oh I see, never mind then.
The problem on the stock firmware is that manufacturer has already abandoned the phone. Therefore, many apps have been discontinued and that's why the screen mirroring is not working. But I trully love the stock camera app compared with custom rom. :crying:
Now I'm using custom rom and will continue monitoring first.
Anyway, thanks again.
I think the note 2 has decent hardware and could probably run 6.0 with no problem but Samsung would sell fewer phones

Ya, you are right. I am not using custom rom resurrection remix nougat version. The camera is not as smooth as the stock camera which is sad for me. My wife did complain to me that the phone with this rom was lagging, which led me to back to stock firmware.
But now I am back to same rom so far is ok, only that I need to make sure the phone can run smoothly and I will be happy to use it. Cheers.
