Been pretty confused as to which one to go for since the day the 6gb version of max pro m1 was announced. Already have a redmi phone and it seems filled with bloatware, which is a bit annoying. Also, dont like the MIUI, but have seen some reports of Asus after sales support being very bad and despite the 5000 mah battery the phone lasting a bit less than RN5P.Is this true? The anti rollback also seems like a small issue now on the RN5P. Also how will the development of roms and recoveries be for both the devices ?
As far as I am concerned ARP is an issue if you switch between MIUI roms. Custom roms don't have a firmware included (that's why developers say flash Specific_firmware.zip because they wrap their roms around them.) MIUI 10 is a beta so no it's highly unlikley they get shipped with ARB protection v.4 (always double check your device with fastboot getvar anti)
Long story short: you can flash/mod your device and make it look like stock Android in no time. It has a great & huge community. Even if you are on ARB v.4 (which is giving people headache because they flash MIUI with ARB v.3) you won't have a problem installing a custom rom (which is the important point here): Nobody likes MIUI, everyone wants stock!
Regarding the Asus Zenphone max pro m1 vs xiaomi camera: for an average user they are pretty much equal, however the xiaomi redmi note 5 pro camera performs slightly better (according to side by side comparisons).
4gb RAM vs 6gb RAM doesn't really matter to be honest. It's like having 16gb vs 8gb of RAM in a gaming PC: it doesn't matter for your daily purpose.
Both of the devices have a very good XDA community and custom rom support, again no problem modding both of these devices.
Conclusion: the only place I've found the asus phone was Aliexpress and yeah it's a bit more expansive (~260€) sure you have 6gb of RAM, meanwhile the RN5P is ~190-200€
I think you should go with the xiaomi redmi note 5 pro, again you have nothing to worry about in terms of price/performance the best one until ~400€ in all categories.
If you have a bit more money to spend I would recommend the OnePlus_6 (~500€) it's a beast.
Additional plus point for the xiaomi redmi note 5 pro (+ OnePlus and other high end devices) are the MOFI cases. Don't forget a tempered glass and you are good2go. Cheers, I hope I could have helped a bit
Asus is more expensive.
Xiaomi has better community, more roms and better support.
Arb is not a decision factor at all.
I do not remember well but in some review i watched, there was some little bugs in asus. As well as in rn5 lol).
6gb will NOT give you anything, in need of perfomance comparison you must get real testing side by side, and results can change with software updates.
In that review i watched, there was points score at the end, and both phones got equal score. I do not fully believe to reviewers, but it was looking kinda objective. Just some features are better in rn5, other better in asus.
Personally at first I would compare the software, size of community, custom roms amount, then camera shots, and then perfomance.

I should have mentioned being from india where there is improvements in both the primary and secondary cameras for the 6 gb version of the max pro m1.

Oh man, believe me this is a no brainer for everyone, but its almost double that of my budget. That being said if I ever have the budget for a Premium phone I am going for whatever version of OnePlus would be available that year.
Your reply was very helpful, thanks man ...
Well, maybe not everyone is from India? However I don't understand your statment regarding "Indians advancement of technology regarding cameras/6gb RAM". There are camera comparisons of these phones, watch them and then reply plz I don't care, the end product has to speak for itself!
To be honest ~1/2 years ago I had a phone with 2gb RAM, 16gb ROM and I didn't have any problems at all, so I don't see any problem here.
A lot of people actually think they don't need an expansive phone because they look at Apple and Samsung or let it be Google (which all are around 1k). A lot of people are simply not aware of that.
One hint: leave the sarcasm be, it should be a friendly open minded international community and not something corrupted twisted around india full of sarcasm and hatred with people only complaining about others and not even appreciate the time and effort.
Do you have an idea how often I have seen the question? Doesn't matter I always take my time to tell my opinion.

I was mentioning the 6gb version of the zenfone cause the cameras on it has been improved to 16 mp for both the primary and secondary from the previous 13 mp and 8 mp for the 3 & 4 gb versions of the phone. I just thought that the global version for this phone would be a little different like the MI 6X and the MI A2 (which are essentially the same but with minute differences). It might have come out wrong. I wasnt being sarcastic at all and your answer was actually very helpful.
These type of questions should be asked in Device suggestion thread.. i dont understand why people create different thread for same question
What is this arrogance about???!!!

Who are you? How much help have you provided to any community?? If any, what do you want from any of us(who are also in the same community of XDA,specially from Indians) in return??? How dare you to complain against a race or a nation like that?? You are one of the dumbest one to be seen in XDA's history and you are really lucky that the questioner(5tunter) was really humble to ignore your arrogant and sarcastic reply.
Now read out and try to follow what he was trying to mean to you..
RN5P 4gb/64 and AZM1 6gb/64 both are available in India with exactly same price i.e. INR 14,999 (~ 190€.) So we are not dumb enough to buy it from AliExpress by paying much more price. You are not from India that is your problem, or are you asking us to move to your place and buy the same phone from AliExpress?? So, as both of them available at exact same price now it's really hard to decide which one to buy as previously RN5P was quite better in terms of overall offerings and particularly in Camera department compared to AZMPM1's 4gb variant. But Asus has come a long way and upped their offering with the 6gb variant with a newer and better camera setup which performs as good as RN5P( as you referring to lots of comparison available on YouTube) and surprisingly with same tag of ~ 190€ compared to 4gb RN5P ( He dosn't have to pay ~ 260€ like you). Also there are so many other aspects of both the phone but in each and every comparison they are not far superior or inferior from each other. So it's really hard to decide and that's why so many of buyers asking for the final opinion which is more hard to find from any available comparison.
If you can help him to decide that is fine If not then also that is fine but why trolling someone who doesn't want to buy(but really wish to have the money to buy it when his budget allows him to) a phone what costs more than double i.e. INR 34,999.00(~500€) . If every one can afford OP6 then what's the point having RN5P or AZMPM1 in market!!! Or we have to mortgage our property or savings to get OP6, as you are liking it very much!!!
And please try to avoid these kind of words in future like "sarcasm and hatred", when no one provoking you to use it and otherwise humble to you.
I can understand your confusion, as i am in that situation myself. I currently own Redmi Note 5 Pro (4+64 black) running AEX rom without any issues but i was eagerly waiting for the 6gb variant of Zenfone Max Pro as i am planning to switch to that and from my perspective let me tell you why:
Pros of Zenfone Max Pro(6gb):
1. More Ram (only helpful if you are a intense user)
2. dedicated sd card slot (absolutely need it)
3. RGB notification led (unlike white led crap on RN5P).
4. Stock android (for those who does not like miui and dont wanna root and all)
5. Improved cameras
6. Battery (not a big difference over RN5P though).
7. Slightly better loudspeaker performance
8. Price!
Apart from this performance, display and appearance is not much different. So yeah choice is yours. I'll personally go for Asus than RN5P for 15k!

Went for the OnePlus One
Since the latest information regarding the Zenfone 2 was suggesting the $199 price tag would be for the 5" 720p device, I decided to order the OnePlus One instead.
It might be that the the 5.5" 1080p model ends up costing $199, but in Belgium (where I live), I suspected it will be more expensive.
The OnePlus one has been out for quite a while now, reviews are super positive. A LOT of development is going on for it, whereas the Zenfone 2 will be brand new in March (?), no reviews at all exist about this phone (will it be any good?) and development will start slow.
Also (correct me if I'm wrong), it would take some work to port CM to the Intel x86 platform whereas the OPO runs CM natively.
I ended up paying $356 for the OPO incl shipping, which seems reasonable. If the Zenfone 2 5.5" 1080p edition with 2GB of ram ends up costing $199, it would be a super deal, but I doubt it...

i totally agree with you most of the device running cyanogenMod have snapdragon or any other chipset....
but i have recently heard that cyanogen is not supporting opo anymore and they are working on their own os namely oxygen os.....
but if we look at the price point i think 4gb version of zenfone 2 will be available at 350$ or may be less than that...
well it can't predicted which device is much better...
well i will wait one week after the release of zenfone 2 and wait for the review of other people ...
hoping for good....
and about development i think xda have amazing devs i think anyone of the developer will definitely help asus users to get cm....

True. Another reason for buying the OPO now is that I really needed another phone as my current one is just too slow for daily use now. If I had time I probably would wait for the Zenfone 2 to come out, wait for reviews/opinions. If you have lots of time to wait, you can wait for the OnePlus 2 (Q3 I think) too.

You will regret the OPO if you are even a minor perfectionist, and the display quality is important to you. I went through 5 of them because I wanted to love it, but all 5 had terrible yellowish bottoms of the screen.

Yes, on all 5, and some worse than others. Maybe it has something to do with my retina cones!!
Are you using the on screen navigation keys? If so it makes it much less noticeable. Try turning them off, and brightness up and use hangouts or an app with a white background. Or better yet, don't even look for it and it will never bother you.
I was almost set on a OnePlus One, but I spent the day reading about the Zenfone 2, and now I'm quite intrigued by it. I have a few questions that I hope I can receive some advice on.
1. Purely in terms of performance, how does this particular Intel chip fare against the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One?
2. I keep reading comments about supposed poor battery life on Intel Atom processors, compared to the Snapdragons. Are there any concrete facts concerning this? Or is it just generally assumed that the Intel Atoms translate to poor battery life?
3. I'm concerned about the aspect of software updates and custom ROMs for the Zenfone 2. Asus apparently aren't particularly quick with OS updates, and I'm worried that the Zenfone might end up not receiving as many as something like the OnePlus One. I'd also want the option to try an alternative ROM or two, say CM, in the event I don't like Asus' factory ROM (a lot of people don't seem to like it). Do you guys think the Zenfone 2 will be restricted in that sense, being an Intel architecture as opposed to ARM?

Moorefield in the Zenfone 2 smokes the 801 and is more on par with 805. Battery shouldn't be an issue as the new Intel processors are built on 22nm FinFET vs the older 32nm planar. FinFET is what Samsung and TSMC are supposedly releasing this year with the new Samsung Exynos built on what is equivalent to 20 nm FinFET but they are calling 14nm. Anything that reads z2xxx are the older processors which I don't even know why Asus is using. The new processors are z3xxx model numbers. I had a Dell Venue 8 pro with the new Intel chip running full windows and the battery life was comparable to my iPad Air except it ran full windows
Actually it is Intel vs Snapdragon

In my opinion, one plus is the best choice. He is good looking. He is not strong but he is famous.

Hello there
I like this phone and I can get it quite cheap new, but before I do I'd like to know how custom roms perform here and the phone in general, was it a flop or do you like it?
I can see there are many threads and before you bash me for not reading them, I did skim through them but I found myself under mixed impressions as some reported that roms are flawless while some cry about many broken details. I did use mi5 before this one but I gave it to a family member so before buying myself a phone I'd like to consider upgrading (at least slightly)
Thanks in advance !
Tl;dr how is your custom rom experience?
I have no experience with custom roms.
Regarding the hardware, the camera of the Mi5 is a tiny bit better, thanks to OIS, but video is probably better on the 5s.
The fingerprint reader is faster on many other phones, but with Android 7 (official) firmware it's working very well, but my Redmi 4 fp reader is better.
The CPU is ok, but gets warm fairly quickly and starts to stay at base clock,, it's still a fast CPU though.
The display is very nice and otherwise the 5s works very well since I have it now 2 years.
Only negative, the battery could hold longer, but I'm playing some demanding games through the day and have most features enabled. So I have to charge it every day.
End of November should probably the first official Global Oreo image be released, there were some issues with the fp-reader which delayed development.

Thanks. I actually kinda took the risk and ordered the phone yesterday already, but I'm glad you like it. I wanted to buy Mi A2 but I just can't justify buying it while mi5s was 230$ with included shipping. I loved the Mi5 camera so I guess this will be around the same level. Again, thanks for the reply, if someone has something to add regarding custom roms feel free to do so, but now that I've already ordered the phone I'm basically forced to try them out on my own (since I hate miui).
Cheers
Sold my Poco and grabbing my old 5s ..damn why so many oems stuck on bigger an wider screen right now.. about performance its now often getting stuttered somehow.
Agree warmer than my other mi series, camera part one of why i keep coming back to 5,5s series.
Developements part heey we have some tallented Dev here, hope they'll not leaving us soon..
Why have you sold your poco? I'm currently thinking of upgrading to Poco F1.

I've bought my Mi5S exactly one year ago. Actually, he's working flawlessly with Syberia ROM, Android 9. Many great devs are working on this phone so you have plenty of choices (hope they will stay at least one or two years...). The performance are quite good (I had a really surprising score on antutu with LOS 15.1 (up to 160 000) but I didn't retry with Syberia), the photos are beautiful, the battery is average (but if you buy a new phone it will be absolutly great). I really happy of this Mi5s and I reckon the Xiaomi A2 is fewer less better than it.

I agree, I think for the same price an older flagship is almost always better than a new mid range phone. Say, did the fingerprint scanner get optimised better in custom roms? I've seen people complain about it being slow.

Not at all ! Fingerprint is working further better and quicker than before on MIUI. Actually, there is just a bug on Syberia where the fingerprint is reset after a reboot but it may be fixed in the next build and I don't reboot my phone every time...

That was fixed in MIUI around 1.5 years ago. Since then it's fast.
Awesome. Thanks everyone, now all my doubts about this phone are over
I'm glad I've ordered it.
I use a Mate 9, almost 3 years old, slight screen crack and failing battery, running omnirom for past 18 months. I don't game. I really like Z6's giant battery, headphone jack, microSD. I don't really care about the super smooth 1P7P screen -- mostly I read, write and research on a phone. But I tend to be very particular about UI and I abhored EMUI, especially v8, which stopped apps I wanted to run and prevented Nova launcher from working properly. So I value and use an active dev community and 1+ probably has the best. (I'd but another Huawei if they still issued bootloader unlock codes and encouraged developers.). So as experienced Zenfone users, what are your thoughts? The 5Z seems super easy to unlock -- no code needed. Why aren't there more ROMs, especially since commentary suggests that zenUI isn't loved?

Well. As you already know, ZenUI 6.0 has been launched along with Z6, which is just vanilla android with Asus's additional features. According to me, you should wait for Z6 for the following reasons:
1. 1+7 Pro's screen looks gorgeous, but it is very very prone to damage, also Z6s LCD supports 100% of Color Gamut.
2. 1+s battery is just sub standard, yes they give Warp Charging, but as it is rightly said, they are just killing the anxiety, actual productivity is to actually have a large battery. Also, Z6 comes with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0
3. Z6s 5000 mAH battery coupled with SD855 will give a stellar SOT.
4. 1+ may have the Sony IMX 586 at rear, but its front camera is average at best. On the other hand, in Z6 you get the exact same high end camera for both rear and front camera photography.
5. And finally, there is a chance that ZenUI 6 is better than OOS. Also, Z6 is included in the Q beta program and ZenUI 6 is as stock as possible, so you can expect very quick updates. Also, Asus has guaranteed Android R update as well.
I drop my phone a lot. The Spigen case has been great at protecting it, but the glass back is a defect to me, too. I would like the telephoto on the 7P though.
both are preety good. But both comes under diffrent costing.
If money is not the issue for you and you want hdr 10 amoled display and be ok with no expandable storage and 4000 mah battry you can buy one plus 7 pro.
But if you can be ok with slighlty lesser display quality and can be ok with the lcd can offer. And you want 5000 mah battery, with new camera technology. And you wana save money by huge amount or you are set on bugget wait for zenfone 6. Its gona be a great device.

Pretty much I prefer the specs of the Z6. But what about the dev community? Why, when three Z5 is so easy to unlock and root, are there so few ROMs? The Huawei's have more and they went totally hostile to devs.
One other problem: GSMArena is reporting that the Z6 does not include Band 71, T-Mobile's 600MHz band, which is increasingly important for T-Mo customers, although not deployed yet where I live. Where deployed, it is pretty uncongested, which makes it desirable for me.

unlocking zenfone 5z is daam easy on the other hand rooting it is a very long procedure.
Well i am not so sure about dev community.
since zenfone max pro series is google stock rom it has preety decent development. On the other hand well all i can say is you can expect 1 or 2 development programs for sure. But don't expect any more further development.
Most of the developers will focus on one plus 7 nd pro, upcoming xiaomi POCOFONE F2, and other devices with stock google rom.

Taking a look at the 5Z Dev Forum... That looks kinda disapointing.
i was looking for a bit more development than my Sony Xperia XZ2.
Coming from the Old Sonys and the HTC10 which had a fairly big Custom Rom Community i'm somewhat disapointed. And going for a Pixel or OnePlus without a MicroSD slot is not an option.
I think the whole world of phone enthusiasts will be watching the dev section of Z6. Hope that terminations ZL XL KL, etc, or whatever they call it, doesn't make a different phone such as with Samsung, LG phones, thus making development much more difficult and restrictive for some.
For the price they ask, it's a good choice, negatives would be lack of telephoto and IR blaster, but we can live without them for sure.
I kinda hope that the community will grow, as I would like to change my LeMax2.
i would say the Z6 is way better bang for the buck compared to the oneplus. I will see once its on store shelves before buying though. Huawei seem to be in a lot of trouble right now with google actually pulling its services for their devices, updates and play store access, will keep an eye on that.
Yeah the only thing stopping me from buying z6 is the custom rom development
I'm pretty sure with ASUS' shift towards AOSP, development efforts will be far greater for the 6 than the 5z.
I'm just hoping they release a big screen version that's a true successor to their old phablets. A 16:9 or 16:10 7-8" device would be awesome.
Pleaseeee ASUS.

It's not about the money.
I am was a OnePlus user until OnePlus 5T. But later I realised OnePlus has forgot its core values. I don't mean that OnePlus devices aren't good. They are best . But Asus Is implementing the same strategy OnePlus used years ago. Great Devices with Low Cost Value . Asus devices aren't either bad. They are best as per the cost. Quality & Cost is Balanced you know what I mean. It's just about Premium & Budget. Both the devices are great with there own unique way. I love both the companies Asus at priority & OnePlus at Satisfaction.

The best answer here.
Think twice before going for Asus zenfone 6
Trust me you don't wanna spend your life waiting for a official ROM to arrive. The cheaper doesn't always mean compromise, after using Zuk Z2 plus for 2 years, still i feel much happier using Zuk Z2, am running official lineage os and twrp was available from day 1. Anyways I learnt it the hard way that Asus is pretty cheap, they earn a huge profit by selling your privacy. Won't do mistake again, Privacy is more important than specs anyday, hands down to Zenfone6. People may take price of OP7 as granted but OP7 will be 20 times more successful and loved and supported in XDA.
What do you guys think? I am leaning towards ROG Phone 2
ROG Phone 2 is missing some LTE bands. Check it out before you decide.

I don't mind missing VoLTE mad WiFi calling .. I am just excited about that 120hz display and that battery
90hz /120hz
Only a hand full of games support either.
The battery is a big difference and the triggers.
That being said the camera on the OnePlus will make the rog look awful.
I'm conflicted as well. Here in India both of them(8gb ram+128gb rom) cost the same (Rs 38,000~$530). Rog 2 has a 120hz panel, a bigger battery, THE HEADPHONE JACK, a dedicated cooling system while the op7t has a better camera and community/dev support. I'm hella confused rn :/

This is the same thought I have. I'm pretty sure that the ROG won't get any dev support unless a lot of development interested guys opt for ROG instead of 7T since they've same price. At the same time, even OnePlus phones had great development support, the 7 is still very far behind any OnePlus phone. Also for last few years I don't have any interest in gaming. The only high-end game I was interested in those times was Asphalt. That's why I'm thinking why should I go for a game-centric phone.
Also in the upcoming Amazon sale the price of 7 Pro is 44,999 for 6GB version. If it is able to add another discount with SBI card it can be grabbed for 42,999. But I don't like the curved screen, also not sure about reliability of front camera sliding. As you said too much confusion. :/

Same confusion here.
I really like both the phones but feel that ROG II is a lot better on paper than the 7T, and since the price is the same, why not buy it. But 2 concerns make me want to buy the 7T over ROG II. Those are:
1. Overall UI experience (7T has to be definitely better, I assume, since they've placed extra effort on Design and the smoothness as overall, and also maybe because ROG II has just stock Android 9 UI [from ZenFone 6z] without any optimization)
2. Custom Dev support (which am pretty sure is where 7T will shine, but for now am less concerned about it because of HDR and any other such features that will be rendered useless once the phone is bootloader-unlocked)
3. After-Sales Service (again OnePlus might be a definite win, but only because I don't know of the current situation with the ASUS after-sales service, if someone can enlighten me, please!!)
But there are more reasons to buy ROG Phone II over 7T:
1. 120Hz Display w/240Hz Touch Response (although some user was reporting that he/she was able to see some flickering or graininess with the 120Hz RR, none of the Youtubers reviews mentioned any such thing so might be a false-positive, MKBHD though pointed out that the screen would light up a bit when trying to fingerprint unlock)
2. Headphone jack w/Hi-Res Audio output
3. Front-facing dual speaker with the NXP Amplifiers (They are really good from all the reviews that I've watched)
4. 6000mAh battery (just massive and a kind of a must nowadays, I like that they didn't try to compromise at all)
I have been into Android Rooting etc. ever since I got my Xperia U (my 1st ever Android phone) and have been into it till now. Earlier I would just get my new phone, dig into XDA forums and start following the bootloader unlocking process and rooting my phone if it was available. Heck, I rooted my HTC One M8 and OnePlus 3T on day 1/2.
Please provide some inputs if anybody has any recent experience with Asus Mobile Service Centres

Gcam can be tweaked to perfection, but it's not a simple task mate, the drivers, hardware limitations, theres so much that can go wrong and only a handful of people who know their stuff.
Has Asus released all the code for the ROG?
have only owned the Asus prime and that was a biblical pain in the backside to work with, had some help from a talented guy over there though but I got lucky.
I'm not bashing the ROG either, I think it's a bold move and one that I really want to work, I think we're at a point now where CPU /GPU combinations have got so much grunt it's crazy, so many pc games would run on the ROG 1 never mind the ROG 2.
How's the TV out on it? Any latency issues? Can it output at 90hz/120hz?
I think that would be impressive.
You should try my pc gaming on android guide, I think you'd love it. Plus you'd be getting the maximum refresh rate.
I wrote guides for playing 3 classic actual of games locally on android. I'd be interested to see what they run like, the OnePlus 5 could run them perfectly, even with TV out via displaylink.
I'll see if I can find the link, the guys on xda did an article about it.
Games are
Quake 3 arena (works online too)
Return to castle Wolfenstein (not sure about online)
Doom 3 (not sure about online, but I doubt anyone plays it anymore)
Don't need to be rooted either iirc.

If you could link me to that guide, will be happy to check. I don't have TV and Cables etc. here right now so that's not possible.
If someone is really interested in gaming and undying battery back up he should have no 2nd thought about going with rog 2. I am oneplus fan but i miss two things in my op7t that rog 2 has, 6000 mah battery and headphone jack, specially the bigger battery.

Here u go mate.
Lol this was the HTC 10 so it's been a while.
I think once you get one of these up and running you'll want to experiment with keyboard and mouse especially for the likes of quake arena as you'll be getting dragged quite a lot
Hi, so as the title says, if you could would you change your mind or stick with the 7T !
Based on only the 3 models listed which would you now choose ?
Stick with 7T
Go 7T Pro
Go 7 Pro
Edit: I'm currently a OnePlus 5 user and basically use my phone for a multitude of actions ranging from general browsing to gaming ( not really high demand games but for extended periods ) so mainly feel battery and overall smoothness is essentially my end game in a device but still like to capture them precious family moments in still and motion formats so a good camera is desired too. The one plus 5 for me is great and to be honest I don't need to upgrade ATM as I'm happy with everything... but I have the chance to upgrade as I'm giving the OnePlus to my son for his birthday and going to take this opportunity to get myself an upgrade ( no contract, device only ) with no real budget limit except justification on joint account bank balance lol. In reality I wouldn't be comfortable spending more than £800 and would want the upgrade to last at least another 3 years !!
I'm UK and I've looked at virtually everything recently that it's giving me a mental block at what to go for.
Examples:
OnePlus - love current but unsure which 7/8 version to upgrade to.
Samsung - Not a Samdung fan really
Xiaomi - Looks like some really great affordable options but don't understand all the global rom Vs global version stuff so don't want to risk getting burnt.
Huawei - Google issue on newer devices like the P40
Certain Oppo versions,
Along with Redmi,
Redmagic 5g,
Blackshark 3 pro all look fantastic but unsure on updates etc over the next few years with these !!
So on so on
I don't really like to mess with root these days so tend to stay stock.
( Thought I best put a bit of info into the post, I'm welcome to all replies and help in choosing my next device )
Thanks.

Thanks for your feedback. Would you consider the standard OnePlus 8 a needed upgrade at present ?
No
neither the op8 nor the 8pro have anything i would need. and the punchhole is not at all mine was a notch
i come from 3T (broken screen), considered a while for 7T, 7Pro & 8...
finally chosen 7T for flat screen, i hate curve edge (3T bad exp) also for the price of OP8 series seems they changed the high CP strategy (not favourable)
so far 7T's drawbacks are, no LED notification and TWRP not ready..... for TWRP i think it is a matter of time
for the notch i dont think reli matter since the screen is comparatively big

If u don't like root of stay with the 7t stock wisebits rock solid.me I'ma flashaholic if I could go back I would have grabbed the pixel it was cheaper and is farther along development wise at this point.as a x xiaomi owner globel versions are very good but had a issue with lte bands I had the a2 lite but had no band 12 for TMobile luckily I live in a big city so I was fine with band 2 and 4 but if I traveled and needed band 12 I'd be screwed
Go for the 7t, it's really good. You can hide the noth. I had the 7 pro and 7t. The resolution is for normal use without VR absolutely fine. I also struggle with the same question as you. Also the 7t a a cheaper price and awesome charging. Not to forget, Android 10 out of the box. So 1 more big update.
So after at least a week of solid researching and mind numbing change of thought !! I've decided to go with the 7t. I will receive the 7t tomorrow morning ? with next day delivery costs.
It's been a really hard decision but I'm happy with staying with OnePlus and the 7t is an upgrade on my existing op5 at least and I've managed to save some money in not being drawn into my max budget ( £800 - £900 ). I hope I've made the right choice in the 7t and hope will last me a few years like my op5 has and also that I don't regret not going op8 !!
My op5 is still in immaculate condition and performs just like day one so I hope my lad will be happy with his new ( old ) OnePlus 5.
Thanks for the input to those that replied and I may see you over in the 7t forums soon if my old flashaholicism returns lol.

Coming from the OP5 this phone is a massive upgrade and I'm really happy with the
camera ( the zoom and quality is great )
Warp charge is insane compared to opt
Everything is good ATM apart from maybe battery life is not as great as I imagined but i have been hitting some gaming on it with Bluetooth on, 90Hz, high display but with that said I repeat the warp charge greatness as I can just fill her back up when getting low.
After the short time I've had...... I'm HAPPY

I was refering to the green/pinkish tint once you lower the screen brightness.. using a dark theme.. plus users have reported having non-uniform screens.. frame drops/lag.. etc.. you can simply google oneplus 7t screen issues and you will see what Im talking about..
I just wanted to know if its really that widespread.. like every second unit having the same issue.. or is it just a few isolated cases..
anyway..I am really glad you're happy with it ??
Oh another thing on a personal opinion - I nearly went away from OnePlus as I kept reading how the camera was not up to standards etc but I've got to disagree and I find the camera to be amazing. Yes I'm comparing against the oneplus 5 but WOW this thing is amazing lol. I took a X10 zoom shot of moving subjects ( my children on scooters ) and the picture was better than I got on static close ups on OnePlus 5.
So..... It's all respective of what your coming from and what your standards are but I can't fault this phone after day 1.

I've had a little research and I can safely say I do NOT have this issue. My themes and screens are always dark along with low brightness ( unless gaming ). I've done the chrome incognito test and have no such issues.
When I got the phone it had a system update pending so I automatically performed the update and if this helps I've attached my info screenshot.
