any dev want or need a boot mobile moto g6 play? - Moto G6 Play Questions & Answers

Well. After only having this phone for a couple months I've learned the screen is not to great at handling falls lol. I dropped it and the screen is broke. It still works and the touchscreen works but I'm gonna get a new one from Walmart ina couple days. Would any devs be interested in wanting this model when I get the new one?

Bump. Any devs claimed this yet! Be a great way to get. Headstart on this phone. Personally think it's an Excellent phone.

No devs have claimed this yet

I'll claim it! I'm not a dev, I don't want to mislead you...
But I'd pay for shipping and your time, if no one else wants it.
I really like these phones... I have one myself, and I'd like for my fiance' to try it out (gotta pry the iPhone away from her though!).
Just lemme know if you're interested in getting rid of it to a non-developer. Thanks and take care!

If no devs decide to take up on the offer withing the next week then we can talk. But I will say again the screen is pretty spiderwebbed. I'm using it as I type this so it is still functional. But tbh I'll screw myself on the money saying this lol just go up to Walmart and get it. They sell it here in Ohio for 83.44 after taxes. Not sure what state your in so the taxes might be slightly higher but yeah the moto g6 play is sold cheaper at Walmart than boost Mobile themselves sell it for. They sell it for I believe 129.99 at boost Mobile stores and online so Walmart is the place to go lol

I talked to squid2 to know if he wants the terminal, he is one of the great developers of xda and supports several devices in LOS, you just have to wait for his answer, here I leave your xda profile so you can verify it https: //forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6485916

I'd consider it, but my current problem is that I don't even have enough time to properly maintain the device I currently support, let alone taking on yet another device. If nobody has claimed this device in a few months once my other devices (msm8916 family, msm8610 family, perry) are in good shape on LOS 15.1 or LOS 16, then I'd consider taking on this device. However, as of now, I just don't have time to take on yet another device. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will come along to take on this device - Motorola devices are popular with developers.

Really want to get one of these...but hardware problems scare me

Ok so I'm sick and tired of dealing with sprint's pathetic excuse for "3g" speeds. And using 3 year old phone technology (lg optimus).
I've been a part of the android club since the G1 and my biggest gripe has always been the lack of hardware acceleration. Finally I thought, a phone that does this! But everyone is saying there are screen problems...and it's not as snappy as they wish it were.
Are the issues really as bad as some make it out to be? Or are these just people who like to complain for the sake of complaining? If I do order one what should I make sure to check...and how long do you have to send it back?
Really want to click the "order" button on google play...someone convince me!! I was waiting to see what the SGIII was going to be priced at...but I know it'll be way way more. I don't really like the idea of spending more than $400 on a phone.
Nobody can decide for you. If it doesn't work out, return it. You also have a 1-yr warranty for showstopping issues.
Every electronic device has potential issues. Mine has been flawless for months...and I'm not alone.
Regardless of what phone you order there is always the possibility of recieving a device with faulty hardware. In that case you can return it for a new one.
I can't really convince you either way. I love my Nexus, and haven't really had any issues with it. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who asks. SGS3 could turn out to be great, but if you are looking to spend a little less and want something now I'd go for it.

I do want it! Not looking for someone to decide for me...just hoping the issues aren't as widespread as some say. Seems like almost every experience I've read people have had to send the phone back 2-3 times to get a good one.
Kinda crazy for something that's been in production for 6 months now no?
I like mine. You could go to a Verizon store and check the screen out. The biggest gripe people have is on a grey background on low brightness there can be a grainy appearance. Meh. Don't get it if you care but honestly I don't
I haven't had any other hardware issues.

I highly doubt the Galaxy Nexus has any more or less hardware variability or faults than any other phone. People just like to complain, and the minority with issues are ALWAYS more vocal than the people who are happy.

Okay you convinced me
So what's the process for using this phone with tmobile's $30/month plan? I order it online and then take it into any walmart?
Yes, every phone does have it's faults, but the Galaxy Nexus' screen issues is very prominent in so many of these devices that it's ridiculous. And I can tell you firsthand that it is not just for the sake of complaining, a lot of these screens are terrible. I'm waiting on my 3rd Nexus to come in on Wednesday and hopefully there is nothing wrong with it. But I've read countless stories about how many people had to exchange their Nexus 7 or 8 times before they got 1 without problems. But I'm just informing from experience / reading.
Aside from the faulty screens I've gotten, I LOVE this phone. It's amazing and I would definitely recommend you to order this. If you do get 1 with a faulty screen simply exchange it. Everything about this phone is great and for me the Nexus line is the only way to go now.
Not even every phone but almost EVERY device that is made whether it is a radio, television, mouse, speakers, etc. There is a chance of defect. What matters the most is whether or not they will send you a replacement in a timely fashion without question.

Buy this: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/T-Mobile-Prepaid-SIM-Activation-Kit
When it arrives, activate it here: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-activate
Put it in your phone.
DON'T go into a store. Its an "online only" plan. Call customer service if you need to port a number.
I strongly suggest that you read the Prepaid thread and specific $30 month thread before trying it out. There are some asterisks and fine print when it comes to prepaid. I personally am running this plan and love it. I just recommend you know what you're getting into before signing up.

Remember the cdma version seems to have the problems while the GSM version really doesn't. So if you're going for T-Mobile then you don't have too much to worry about.

You don't get roaming, you don't get good customer service, you don't get free nights/weekends/mobile to mobile minutes, your service shuts off on the 30th day of your service if you don't refill. Things like that.
That being said its still the best deal in wireless if you don't need many minutes. I mean I still use it . The pros heavily outweigh the cons.

Congrats, you won't regret it, awesome device I'm one of the people that likes this phone. Best damn device I ever held in my hands, once you root it and start flashing (If you're into that), you'll see that the experience will be even better. Enjoy.
If you want you can also try getting the SIM at your local T-Mobile store, to avoid waiting for shipping(I'm sure you'll get the Gnex quicker), rep should give you one. I would anyway..
Thanks everyone. Do you guys use a case/screen protector on yours? Or just never let it out of your hands?
It has curved glass so do screen protectors work as well?

Personal preference really, there's a bunch of threads around with in depth info regarding SP's and Cases.
Wet apps will always have the best edge cover, but usually might have a minimal orange peel (not all cases). Dry apps on a good quality SP will be crystal clear but might not adhere all the way on edges. My 2cents with personal experience...

I use a zagg screen protector and that's it. I feel the cases take away from it design too much. I bought my GSM gnex back in November from the UK (had it shipped international to the US) and I cannot complain about one thing. Screen has been perfect . This is absolutely the best android phone ive ever used by far. You will not regret your purchase in the least bit. Have fun with it, and welcome to the family!
Edit; also if you have any questions when you receive it, don't hesitate to ask or pm

Can anyone talk me out of...

..buying the Galaxy S3, and instead waiting for the next Nexus?
I'm sick of waiting for a new hardware qwerty to come out (will it ever?) and my Vision is really starting to show it's age, looks and performance-wise.
So I need a new phone, like yesterday. The S3 is begging me to buy it. Can you convince me otherwise?

Not available in the UK :-(
You're sick of waiting. Your Vision is starting to suck. Get the best phone right now, rather than waiting. Waiting is generally silly when it comes to tech. Sorry to not be talking you out of the S3, but it's going to blow your G2/Vision away, even without the QWERTY..
I'm thinking of doing the same, because it seems that we won't get a decent, customizable phone with a hardware keyboard in the foreseeable future..
For what it's worth, if Google goes with Samsung the next Nexus will prob be a slightly tweaked GSIII.
Don't keep looking toward the horizon, find a phone you like now (or the near future) and get it. Something better is ALWAYS coming.
I agree with Nospin pretty much. Keep your G2 for now. There aren't many phones right now that are very much comparable IMO. I've got ICS running on mine and its lightening fast. Every time I go to check out the new phones I can't help but think mine is slightly better of just as good. So why spend the money on something new when you don't need it? Just keep flashing away until you find something that fits you, but again IMO, be like me and go with Adromadus Audacity...its a great ROM.

well I was talking about the looking toward the horizon part. Better to just stick with the G2 for now as there are all of these "better phones" out now. Wait it out until something REALLY good catches your eye, for now the G2 does what all of the new phones do if not more.

Bye all, thanks and good luck.

It's been a month, and having no further evidence that a software exploit for permanent root/unlocked bootloader is near being released, I'm dumping my HTC One. Hate to have to leave HTC, but with carrier restrictions and not having the ability to customize my device without sending it 2000 miles away, I'm not going to sit on this phone and watch it die for 6 months, then be stuck with it.
I've debated back and forth, and refuse to send my device out to get S-off. I don't think many developers are going to be interested enough to buy the device if they don't already have it knowing this is the only option of doing so. But I do thank Sonic for helping a lot of us out.
Thanks for the help most of you have given me, good luck, and hopefully an exploit comes out by Friday morning.
Have fun. Good luck

After being a crack flahser for 2 years, I decided that I was spending 6-8 hours per week flashing ROM's. Why, because I could. Other than the few customizations I did, my primary use for an unlocked and rooted phone was to use Google Wallet. Since my new CC offers me an NFC card, I don't even need Wallet. That said, I purchased the One as I wanted a FAST phone without having to tweak it and spend hours unlocking and swapping ROMS.
Point being, the ONE may not be the phone for you if you want to unlock it and customize it further. This is one of those things that you should have been aware of when you purchased it. If knowing there was no exploit availble, and you purchased it with the hopes that there would be, that was your mistake and I agree, you should get rid of it. NEVER purchase a device that has not already been exploited if you like to flash ROMS.

For all of you that are dumping your Ones for something else BYE . But Im almost possitive there is an exploit for this device and it will not be released untill the 4.3 update rolls out so that it dont get patched , thas my two cents . If after the release there is no exploit , I will then send my SEXY Blue BEAST out to Sonic and let him sprinkle some magic on it , and then we will have Tranquil on our Ones.

This. The only things that bother me with sense is the cluttered status bar, the wifi persistent notification, and few other other things.
I just picked up my One last night, having been swayed by the irresistible Best Buy price this week. I'm coming from a Thunderbolt, which was my first Android phone and one on which I had a lot of fun learning to root and ROM. I did that to my heart's content on that phone.
Having said that, I came over to this device because, well, yeah, the price... but also because it's such a massive hardware upgrade over the Tbolt. I moved over to this phone with my eyes wide open. I know there's no exploit at present for the One, and I accept that there may never be one. I'm not crazy about Sense, so one of the first things I did was to run Nova Launcher. Bye bye Blinkfeed, etc. I'll be fine running this phone stock unless and until.
I agree with the general consensus here: don't get a phone you won't be happy with stock.

Congrats on the major hardware upgrade I had the Thunderbolt for a little while, wasn't a big fan, then got the Rezound. Loved the Rezound. But yes, the HTC One is an amazing device, even stock. I also didn't like blinkfeed, so I am, too, using the Nova launcher.
To the OP, thanks for stopping by, good luck with you future devices. I'll hold out for a hopefull exploit after 4.3 is released, and like others have said, if that doesn't turn out, hopefully I can send my phone to Sonic to get s-off.
Should never buy a phone with the expectation that it will be unlocked. Especially in such a short time frame.
I don't think it was necessary to make a post about getting rid of your phone, but to each their own.
I hope you find the phone that works for you. Just don't buy a phone you aren't happy with out of the box. Sounds like you should either buy a nexus phone, a dev edition phone, or wait and buy a phone that the community has already exploited.
Sent from my HTC One.
I think I agree with most people when I say this, I didn't buy the One for it's root or ROM capabilities I bought it because the phone is awesome. I personally think HTC did a great job with Sense 5, before I used this I was on the Thunderbolt and it was still a good phone I'm glad u went with HTC. The only reason I care for root now is adblock and uninstalling Verizon's apps.

Still have confidence in XDA Dev's
I can sorta see both sides of this. To me the HTC one is the best phone I have owned BY FAR! S4 was great phone but I like the build, screen, and speaker quality of this one better.
I get the "Don't by the phone if you aren't happy running stock" line of thinking. However, I buy these phones with full confidence that XDA developers will find an exploit within a reasonably short time. Every phone I have owned way back to the Driod X were rootable within a short time. Am I wrong for thinking that?

I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong for thinking anything. You would be wrong, however, in buying a phone with expectations that devs would root the phone and then throw a fit if they don't. If you think they owe you something - I'm not saying you do - or if you think you deserve their efforts on your phone of choice then you would be wrong in that.
The advice to buy a phone you love AS-IS is great advice because if you don't get what you're hoping for, you're still good with your choice.
Is it wrong to hope the devs get you squared away quick? No. Is it wrong to demand it of them? Yes.

Moto 360 Replacement What to do...

So my first moto 360 was dead on arrival so I contacted Motorola and all they did was take down my address and said they'd see what they could do and I'd be hearing from someone. A few days passed and I saw one up again on Best Buy so I bought it and got it the next day. Returned the DOA one since it was within Best Buy's 15 day period. The next day I get a new moto 360 on my doorstep with no information on where to return the DOA one. So what should I do with the 'free' moto 360 I have? Was thinking of just holding on to it until Motorola says something, but that may be a while and by then it'd pretty much be useless to sell on eBay or something because the newness period has wore off and everyone who wants one likely has one already.
Thoughts?

Keep it.
Waiting until somebody pulls ethics.
But who are we to judge?
I'm just saying it is kind of **** to profit off it, I.E. sell it. If you keep it OR give it away and do not profit by selling it personally I think that is "less wrong". I know I wouldn't return it though, that's just me. But I also wouldn't sell it.
I mean if it came with a return slip or I got an email with a return slip. But I really don't want to go out of my way to return it you know. Maybe I'll give it to someone for christmas I don't know or make a usb cable and root it for practice before doing it on my actual one.
You already know what you should do. You simply want someone to tell it it's okay to keep it.
Contact Motorola and explain what happened
Keep it.
They screwed up once by even sending you a DOA and then a 2nd time by not giving you a return slip. Don't go out of your way for these guys... Moto made a nice watch, but the launch has been terrible, they have to learn somehow.
I'd say keep it as well.
Seriously? They screwed up by rushing him a replacement? *facepalm*
Every product has DOA's, it's how they are handled that matters, and rushing a replacement is basically as good as it gets.

Yes steal from the struggling company whose future might depend on this hit product... that's how you "help" them
I don't see why you would even think keeping it is an option...
1) Motorola would absolutely want a DOA back so they can figure out what went wrong
2) A company ALWAYS asks for the item back if it's over $50 in my experience
3) WTF you would actually gift someone a DOA moto 360? And on X-Mas?? That's just mean.
All these people saying "keep it"... do you lie to your insurance too because "they can afford it"?
This thread is just *facepalm* if you're an actual adult.

Cry more. Think for a second these large companies bat an eyelash at us regular people over? I'd keep it too, but I don't make pretenses that I'm a good person either.

Lol, poor struggling company... because Lenovo is in such bad shape, ha ha.
The only thing they're struggling with is lazy QC and letting defective and DOA products out the door. I'm actually on my 3rd one due to dead pixels and screen issues. I like the watch, but among other things, they were spooked by the Apple watch announcement and rushed to get these out before they were ready to.
Look at it as a "gift" for your early adoption and inconvenience. Your time and money are valuable, keep it.
Ok. How about this. Tell your grandma that the company sent you a defective unit, then corrected it as soon as they could. Ask your grandma how you should handle it.
Either way, if you have to ask if you should do something, you most likely already know the answer.

Its a dead watch! Return it so Motorola can figure out what went wrong. You don't have to kill yourself to immediately return it, but you SHOULD return it nonetheless.

Read the op.
He returned the doa
Basically, he is going to keep the extra unit. He knows that he defrauded best buy by switching the units out intentionally. Who doesn't want two smart watches for the price of one...the only difference is that he knows it was wrong so he came here hoping that people would cater to his guilt and tell him that it was okay.
id call motorola and ask them what to do..
tell them you already returned the doa watch and you pruchased a new working one..
i bet you 4 out of 5 times they will say to keep it.. they have done it to me with a phone.. they sent me a new one and told me to dispose of the broken one myself.
Tell them you returned the doa to a store that you didn't buy it from, and lied. Let's keep this 100%
Since these watches are in such short supply I'd sell it on for face value so that someone else gets a chance to own one. Then donate the money to a charity of your choice.
Don't feel sorry for Motorola. They have done an awful launch and their quality control is terrible. Whoever thinks that lenovo/Motorola are a "struggling company" is completely delusional. They rushed this product out because they'd been hyping it up for months and they were worried about Apple's keynote. Even though they didn't have enough supply to meet the demand or enough time to check the units they were shipping. I returned both of mine because of dead pixels.

Look elsewhere for justification.

Finally narrowed some of it down, Wifi only works good with bluetooth enabled!

So after months of fighting with this i have finally found out something and narrowed it down some, wifi works flawlessly with my bluetooth enabled yet when disabled it works like crap for some reason, and i always leave bluetooth disabled, is there any sort of log i can send to developers or someone that knows what they are looking at to possibly fix this? im running the latest Ressurection rom right now, and on my 5ghz network at home custom channel set.

This phone is riddled with bugs, and new updates only introduce new ones. It's a piece of crap phone with a piece of crap hardware (zero cool features) and a piece of crap software (zero satisfaction). Just accept it! I've been saying this since I got it 4 months ago. But the vocal minority of crappy fanbois will always try to shut you up. Even though I'm keeping this pos only for Project FI, because I pay $25 a month to have a cell phone through it, I'm seriously considering paying $15 a month more with USC prepaid and getting a phone that I actually LIKE. THE BUGS ARE RUINING a decent phone but underwhelming phone. And Google does nothing to fix this.
Well it's on 2.4ghz band also workaround
So I was experiencing this problem on the 2.4ghz band as well and found a workaround is to enable Bluetooth then connect to the network and then disabled Bluetooth and it works well after that...Man I bought this phone for the unlocked bootloader and superior gaming performance. Pretty overwhelmed with the bugs Android Or looks promising though.

Hello,
You could try to log your activity with a logcat.
How to make a logcat: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=Logcat
Reproduce the issue while logging and once you finish, stop the logcat and send the file to the dev and ask him to take a look... :good:
Good luck...
thanks will try because my little enable disable bluetooth trick isnt working anymore, now i have to constantly leave it on for it to work good
has anyone else experienced this problem?

I don't mean to say there aren't any, because I just got it. I'm honestly asking what bugs.
Thanks

OP asked for help logging his issue. If at least you read his post you would have known this... You are just here doing what you do in any other thread you opened. Crying that your phone is buggy and crap. Get it replaced or sell it and move on. Problem solved.

Did you already log your issue and report it to your ROM developer?
Also, have you tried switching ROM and reproduce the issue? Just TWRP backup everything and try another ROM. At least you'll know if it's an Android or ROM specific problem. Resurrection Remix is based on a lot of different sources + their own code.
So... Try latest 7.1.2 factory image and try reproducing your issue. If it is persistent, at least you'll know it's an Android bug. If it's solved, then a ROM issue... :good:
Good luck...

I know that no one like complainers but complainers have a reason to complain - in this particular case, incessant bugs from a company who promised frequent updates, only to be thwarted by bugs introduced by their Team B bug hunters.
What you don't have is a reason to complain about complainers. That's just petty and unproductive. Yeah, sure - you love this phone because you bought it for almost $1000, but that doesn't mean that it's perfect. Be a man and stop complaining! Hypocrite.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you here. If you didn't understand yet, my only complain is:
You provided no help to the OP. Just saying this phone this, this phone that, blah blah...
Did it help him resolving the issue? Not at all. This thread is not a debate, if you don't have anything relevant to help the OP, your posts are just useless.

I got the phone for half the price on eBay.de, since Google decided not to sell Pixel devices in France. At least I saved 400 bucks. Still good for a non perfect device.
Well... You think my post is petty and unproductive. I'm an hypocrite? No offence here, but at least, I'm not the kind of guy who says his device is crap and keep using it.
Cheers...

So you confirm latest 7.1.2 public release doesn't fix your issue...? Personally, I don't have this bug. As far as I remember, I haven't seen the same issue yet.
Since you're on stock firmware, contact Google and report your issue. If it can't be fixed, ask a replacement asap.

Wow, stop crying and sell your damn phone to me. I'll give you $150 since it's such a piece of crap. I've yet to experience 1 bug with this phone, especially the ones you've stated. This is the best phone I've ever had, it's an awesome phone, inside and out. Near perfect phone imo. My wife would love to have your phone, so sell me yours on Swappa or eBay so you can get ready for that crud S8 from Sammy.

I guess RMA is your only option right now... If you were lucky enough to recieve a Verizon unlockable bootloader in the first place, you only have a 50% chance with the replacement device. Otherwise, I have no idea...
