I'm on v10b now and it's rooted. Now the phone alerts me that fw v10f is available. Will I loose root if I update? And if so, can I re-root it?

Probably yes but that shouldn't affect the status of the bootloader however I'm not 100% sure
BTW questions should be asked in "question answers" forum
hello -- I have a G7 in mail to me. For someone who's more familiar with HTC M8-U11 phones, does LG employ the similar strategies and protections like "locked boot loader" and "protecting writes to /system" (ie. S-Off vs S-On)?
Finally, if I get a carrier-specific G7 -- like the G7 thinQ for T-mobile. Can I simply go S-OFF and flash firmware for non-carrier version?
My apologies for the noob LG questions...

Hey everyone, this is my first LG device, and definitely not my last. I love this phone but I think its time to root now.
I understand LG have an official bootloader unlock for the H815 model, but mine is also carrier branded to O2, I read somewhere that its only the factory unlocked models that support this method?
Cheers

You can always just go to the LG site and try to get the files you need and see. If you attempt to put in info for a G4 that their bootload unlock does not support it will just give you a popup error and will not allow you to download anything.
As some of you know I got my H815 not long ago, just been messing with it, see lots of stuff that I'd like gone and to learn what they do. I'm new to phones so I guess I need to unlock the boot loader / root it and then install TWRP most likely. Rooting and such seems to still be kinda sketchy and I'm scared to try it myself, I don't have another $500 if something goes wrong. So if someone could walk me through doing these things, live, via FB, Steam, any messenger, etc. I'd personally like to do Team Viewer. I can pay via Paypal for some help.
I also believe I'll need to flash my firmware I guess since it's saying 10b?
So please send me a PM with your contact details so we can get started, I'd like it done ASAP.

I'm sure I can unlock the boot loader myself with this site: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
But the rest I'm still clueless on really, and scared to try alone. xD
at least i'm not the only one who's stuck one V10b, i'm on TWN version.
I have the same version. It's the H815 SEA version and I'm on 10b as well, I just updated from 10a.
what I know, or what's being said is that the SEA version cannot be bootloader unlocked so you can't root it the traditional way.
There's the low effort root that is pretty easy to follow, and it's under one of the xda tabs about how to root, some guy from xda made a video tutorial on how to do it.

You'd have to send me links. Mine says SEA also, but from what I know it's the standard H815 that can be unlocked...

and I've just been looking at Reddit's G4 subreddit, this guy says only the H815 European version is boot loader unlockable.
Many people have reported as well trying LG's official boot loader unlock on their website and the Asian H815's reported that it doesn't work for them. LG's website itself says the only supported device is the H815 European Open Market version.

Hi.
I have just purchased a used h815 and when I went to unlock via the official lg website, I was informed that my phone was a US variant, and unlock was not available.
I'm currently running 20h.. is there any way at all given the locked bootloader to
A) get root access?
B) install cm13?
If the answer is no.. i think I'll be sticking this back on eBay...
Thanks!

I read online downgrading on locked bootloader will brick the phone, but for G3, specifically sprint, none of tutorials on downgrading mention anything about bootloader. So does it mean you can downgrade G3 even on locked bootloader? Specifically Im asking about Ls990 sprint model, if downgrading from firmware ZV6 to ZV4? Or Zv8 to Zv4? Thanks

It's my first time to hear downgrading a device would brick the phone... It would either be a success or a fail(will abort and nothing will be changed). It should work via kdz, unless lg did something to prevent a downgrade.

I just purchased a Verizon LG G8 that is unlocked and want to use it on Metro. I haven't gotten the phone yet but I would like to (if it's possible) flash a unbranded firmware. I'm confused about whether I can use LGUP or LG flash tool to do this. Can someone please tell me if this can be done and if so what is the best firmware to flash to have it unbranded with minimal bloat?
I miss the good old days on XDA where people actually came on XDA and there was always someone able to help out. I feel like that doesn't exist anymore. Too many phones and too many different carriers.
I don't think there's a patched LGUP to do this for LG G8 yet.

Holy shiit, someone actually answered my question! That is insane! Thanks for the info man!
Is there a y method that currently works to flash firmware on the LG g8? I would like to flash the stock unlocked carrier unbranded firmware.
There is no way to flash through LGUP or any other tools currently but you can unlock boot-loader root and install firmware package through twrp but doesn't work for T-Mobile or Metro

There is a thread for it and same thing at the g7 thread. Just use octoplus jtag pro to flash the v35 engineering boot-loader to device and from there you can unlock boot-loader and do all the stuff. If you dont have octoplus jtag pro there is a guy who will do it for you he charges i dont know how much though.
