I just purchased a Verizon LG G8 that is unlocked and want to use it on Metro. I haven't gotten the phone yet but I would like to (if it's possible) flash a unbranded firmware. I'm confused about whether I can use LGUP or LG flash tool to do this. Can someone please tell me if this can be done and if so what is the best firmware to flash to have it unbranded with minimal bloat?
I miss the good old days on XDA where people actually came on XDA and there was always someone able to help out. I feel like that doesn't exist anymore. Too many phones and too many different carriers.
I don't think there's a patched LGUP to do this for LG G8 yet.

Holy shiit, someone actually answered my question! That is insane! Thanks for the info man!
Is there a y method that currently works to flash firmware on the LG g8? I would like to flash the stock unlocked carrier unbranded firmware.
There is no way to flash through LGUP or any other tools currently but you can unlock boot-loader root and install firmware package through twrp but doesn't work for T-Mobile or Metro

There is a thread for it and same thing at the g7 thread. Just use octoplus jtag pro to flash the v35 engineering boot-loader to device and from there you can unlock boot-loader and do all the stuff. If you dont have octoplus jtag pro there is a guy who will do it for you he charges i dont know how much though.

After trying several tutorials, i found out that i cannot unlock my bootloader. I thought that my 815p could pass for an 815 but no.
I also looked for specific info on rooting this variant but it seems its not common enough. Can someone direct me?

use the same method as 815 EU. i'm using 815P from south africa and you can root it so easily with the low effort root. choose the 815 EU/international command

I get what you are saying, but all the guides i saw mentioning the 815 EU do the unlocking bootloader step. When i go to the official lg site after getting the info from fastboot, i get a message along the lines of "your model is not supported".
Can you link me to the guide you used, if possible? How did you unlock your bootloader?
Root not bootloader unlock

great thread.. thank you! Did it work for you?
it did
Guys I was able to root the H815P: First I flashed it with 5.1 (it had android 6), and I flashed it with H815.. not the "p"..
Then I was easily able to root it with that dd command.. smooth!
I read online downgrading on locked bootloader will brick the phone, but for G3, specifically sprint, none of tutorials on downgrading mention anything about bootloader. So does it mean you can downgrade G3 even on locked bootloader? Specifically Im asking about Ls990 sprint model, if downgrading from firmware ZV6 to ZV4? Or Zv8 to Zv4? Thanks

It's my first time to hear downgrading a device would brick the phone... It would either be a success or a fail(will abort and nothing will be changed). It should work via kdz, unless lg did something to prevent a downgrade.

You can flash European kdz. But afterward you cannot receive bootloader unlock support
is it possible to flash a custom kdz of a different h815 variant that is already rooted ive looked around for pre rooted but nothing for h815-v20i-sea-xx just v10d euro id really like something with the latest security patches that i can install adaway and a layers theme idk maybe a temp root would work or i am hoping for a lost cause? i dont wanna brick this thing
Here, take a look at this:

Does anyone know if it's possible to have the H815 or H811 firmware on the H812 (Canadian version)?
I want to root my phone, but alas the Canadian LG G4 cannot unlock bootloader.
I'm fairly new to rooting and flashing, so any help is appreciated!

No that would hard brick your device.
You CAN unlock the h812 though by UsU.

follow SteadfasterX instrustions to unlock bootloader. UsU. It works! I did it. Now I can install h811 ROMS on my canadian h812!
Will I be able to flash custom ROMs on it afterwards? While researching, I couldn't find any custom ROMs that were available for the H812.

During the bootloader unlock process it tells you what firmware your device is compatible with. Mine said h811. yours will probably be the same.
Cool! I'll try it out sometime and see how it goes. Thank you two so much!

Hello again,
Which ROMs were you able to install? I tried using Genisys, but I can't even use the touch screen, let alone use it as my daily driver.

Suggest you close this thread and move over to steadfasterX's bootloader unlock thread - in the search bar there search for H812. All the roms are in the OP in the Downloads section. There is an AOSCP N specifically for the H812.
Are you sure you have followed ALL the instructions to unlock the bootloader using usu? Maybe you missed a step? I'm using the h811 ROM from this thread... Genisys. Daily driver, no glitches. It works flawlessly. Check the usu instructions again. I think you missed a step. It wasn't a quick easy thing. I made a bootable flash drive using steadfasterX's FWUL Linux distribution and used the tools on that... Takes about an hour to get to Twrp and flashing ROMs.

This is the one I'm using... https://host.llamasweet.tech/genesixx/LineageOS/h811/
I can't even tell you enough how valuable the tools and instructions from steadfasterX are for installing TWRP on the canadian LG G4. there is no other way. SteadfasterX spend a lot of time and energy developing the tools and the instructions to make it work. He should get some kind of gold metal for saving all the useless canadian G4's from going to landfill without updates!
Hey guys. I had a VS986 back when it was 13B and all I did was downgrade to stock with LGUP and i flashed a rooted stock room, i remember doing something with chainfire "Flashfire" at the time because there is a locked bootloader issue and a custom recovery is not available..?|
Well now i have a new LG G4 VS986 that is 2BA. Can I root the 2BA or do i need to use the LGUP to downgrade to a specific version (like 13b?). And then what is the rooting procedure? YES, I tried to look it up, but i havent been following development for so long I am out of the loop and so much info from the gate is ALOT to take in.
So can someone PLEASE give me a quick run down of the rooting VS986_2BA procedure, and I can figure it out from there- Im not asking anyone to do the work for me, just alittle help. Or a link that could point me in the correct direction. I just dont want to have a new brick! Thank you!!
If you want to root 2ba you need to unlock the bootloader
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
Make sure you read the instructions and warnings because the bootloader unlock is permanent!!
Do not flash the baceband packeage you don't need it and your SIM won't be detected after flash
After you do that you should know how to get to fast boot mode and you need to flash this patch boot imge https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GH00BeWsEtKE2Ea34dXLmeMUC4Ts8XEI/view?usp=drivesdk
Here's the command
Fastboot flash boot (filename).img
And that's it all you have to do is install Magisk Manager from the play store

Not as of March 2018. https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
I did it to my Verizon LG G4 and am now on Marshmallow, rooted by Magisk, and running XPosed. It's not a "double-click, next, next, finish" process. Read the entire OP in that link. And here is my summary of what I did https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76691955&postcount=1063.
Oh wow that's awesome, I didn't know that was possible. But since you personally confirm it then I'm going to check out those links!
I wish I knew about this a month ago, I just downgraded mine and my girlfriends phones and flashed the rooted 13b system images.
Thanks for the info! ?
