Newbie question here when it comes to custom ROMs, APKs and such. I'm looking into getting an S9 (Exynos variant), but the first thing I would do is install the LineageOS on it. Camera is one The Features in a smartphone for me, so that's where the question mark comes up. Lineage developers underline that S9 has Samsung's proprietary camera software which is something they won't support and this is understandable. They - among others - recommend a port of GCam which would probably suite most of my scenarios, but is there a way to use the original (Samsung, not Lineage) stock cam? I mean there's a bunch of S9 camera APKs linked here and there, can I just use of them? Or are they not ported so I can't use one unless I have a Samsung ROM installed with necesarry "blobs" and such? I know I could also go OpenCamera and shoot RAW etc, but that's not what I'm after.

No because it requires TouchWiz ROMs
If you want full camera capabilities on the S9 and can't live with samsung rom, you might have a problem
Samsung camera needs a framework which is proprietary from samsung and there's no fully working google pixel camera port yet. Some things like the variable aperture might never get supported by any other then the original firmware.

Hey guys I had to ask this, is anyone working on the new google camera ports? The one found on the pixel 3 with the new swipe UI. There have been reports that ports are already under works for devices like the Onplus Plus 6 among others.
Since this device supports the camera api 2.0 the same could be ported for this device as well right?
I think the new Google camera version requires Android Pie
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog243/ I guess I was wrong, this one works just fine so far
My wife will be getting the S9 shortly and a custom rom is a must. Being a developer myself I have got her quite used to the benefits of a custom rom on her phones so there is no going back now!
What custom rom are you using and why?
I am leaning towards LightRom or Soldier
For the european model (exynos) i don't have much to choose!
My own..lol..in this I deleted most Samsung stuff and replaced even the dialer with Googles version..the camera app now open Google photos..I did not like the doubled Samsung stuff from things that are in Google roms and Samsung roms..why I need 2 photos app and clouds app and and and..
I finally had the Pie OTA update notification arrive recently and have been doing some research on the usability changes that Samsung made before I update.
One change in particular is that the new camera app no longer has the video record button accessible beside the shutter button, instead you have to switch to a dedicated video mode to record. I also read that apparently this change also means that 'Pro'/manual mode can no longer record video. Is that true? This control is something really useful in my work, so is a pretty big deal breaker.
Does anyone know if it's possible to downgrade the stock camera app in Pie to the one included in Oreo? Would system changes make it incompatible or would it fail to install or work for some other reason?
Obviously the idea is to keep the better camera UI and also retain the OEM camera secret-sauce that manufacturers seem to bake into their systems/apps.
I've found what I believe is the stock camera apk file for Oreo at /system/priv-app/SamsungCamera8/Samsung Camera.apk
No you cannot, best case scenario would be someone porting it but you'd need root to install it and no-one has done that yet
Damn
Is the need for porting due to significant changes in Android, or just that apps need to be specifically built to be compatible with a specific version/s of Android e.g. Using the newer environment/sdk?

same here on s7 edge
i searched all the planet for this
I have an old mediatek based redme note4, so very much due an upgrade. The cameras on this look pretty decent and good enough for my youtube vid work...
But I have one issue i want to address...
On my old Note4 using MiUi ive noticed that A LOT of system programs dial home to aliexpress servers... I assume to Xiaomi controlled servers... Ive noticed this quite regularly when doing certain tasks like using Chrome or email, or installing apps...
Now I want to get this phone, I kinda need to know that there will be some roms going around that will strip all this crap out. Annoyingly though I like MiUI as an interface. I just dont like this phone dialing home as much as it is.
So got the few questions.
As its snapdragon, i realise in all likely hood there will be custom roms. What will my likely options be? Lineage? Will there likely be a MiUi with the nastiness stripped?
And I also, when I root the phone to do all this is there anyway to mask the root? I use banking apps that wont run if the phones been rooted...
Anyway I realise its early day. Just thought I should ask. I might be getting the phone around december or january...
We can expect that there would be xiaomi eu rom support which is debloated miui with additional languages. (Also with their shi**y roboto font)
Custom roms may not be your favor cuz they usually give you same boring aosp experience whatever you install.
Magisk has a "hide" feature that allows to have root and still use Bank apps.

This typically doesn't work anymore, or it works with very high efforts for a short period.
Mine is arriving today and I will be unlocking the bootloader ASAP.
Xiaomi usually let you unlock the bootloader although you have to wait and the custom ROM scene for past Xiaomi devices has been good (I've had both a Mi 5 and Mi 9 and can testify to this).
So long as someone builds for this device, you'll probably end up with a fair selection of ROMs to choose from including customised / debloated versions of MIUI which aren't too bad either
My phone history. Sony arc s lt18i. Remi note 3 kenzo. Remi note 5 pro whyred. Poco m3 citrus lime.
I have flashed phone from android 2 to A11.
I feel frustrating about A11 dynamic partition and vendor problem.
I flash custom aosp based rom and pass safety test.
Still, there are 2~3 bank or shop app not working.
And double tap to wake Ng, flicker screen issue.
Back to eu miui port.
Camera NG.
Too many useless apps.
If I use magisk model debloat method to remove apps.
I can't pass some bank and shop app.
I used to delete apps directly in lt18i phone.
Use root to delete app in kenzo phone.
Magisk hide in whyred.
Then in android 10 I need to remove magisk after delete unnecessary apps. To pass some apps test.
Now I have no choices.
I just use a java app to debloat delete apps.
But app is still there.
64 gb. System suck with 14 gb. Then with apps installed only 36 gb storage you can use.
I feel my body is not clean.
I'm sick.
Yeah that's my mind problem.
You would say. You already debloat to delete apps. You can't see apps icon in your app list.
But I know my space is got eaten.
Uh...
And still I can use camera and watch web tv.
Tbh if I want a perfect rom experience. I need to go back to A10.
In A11 custom aosp rom. They don't list double tap to wake Ng, flicker screen, bank still not pass while safetynet pass are bug.
Unfortunately I need to use eu miui port to use double tap and pass bank apps.
I don't understand why whyred roms can use these bank app but citrus can't.
Vendor problem? Idk.
If you want to flash poco m3?
Plz think more about it then do it.
I still don't know how to use 48mp and macro camera to shot in eu miui.
If you flash it.
Your macro and 48mp may be gone.
Just install bsg Gcam in stock miui system.
Then do nothing.
That what I recommend. Today is 20210702. Hope it will be better
I thought there would be much more activity around this lime phone but it looks like another dud buy for me. I was hoping it would make it onto the official lineageos list but at this rate chances look slim. When I bought it it made sense as the hardware was pretty common and there was multiple phones with the same hardware so could be a popular device. Im running an unoficial version of lineageos and although it works there are a number of issues still.
It seems like it just hasnt been popular with the devs. Maybe someone will pick it up later but we can only hope.

The android limitation when google introduced Android 10 makes it a bit harder for a dev to develop
also the android phone release too fast but the source code is released after a long time.
I've Lenovo A6000 plus back in the day with custom ROM up to Android 10
