fastboot boot twrp.img? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
Would it be possible to do similar thing as on Nexus in the past, meaning boot recovery via fastboot without flashing it?
This could in theory help avoid tripping knox:
#fastboot boot twrp.img
I'm not sure how to boot S9 into bootloader to be able to run fastboot. Is it "download" mode named?
Thanks

No, absolutely not... The S9 has no fastboot mode.
They use ODIN mode.
There is no way to fastboot, you'll find if you try the fastboot devices command that it'll just sit there waiting to find a device.

[Q] Wiped Nexus, new rom didnt work, have nothing to restore to.

So I'm an idiot. I deleted everything off my Nexus 7 then I was going to flash to a new ROM, didn't work, I don't know why but it won't install. I have nothing else to install, not any other ROMs and no backups. To make the whole entire thing worse, my Nexus wont connect to my computer. Before you say to reinstall the drivers or plug it into another computer, I have, I've tried everything and nothing works. So my question is; Am I screwed or is there somehow a way to install a new ROM (seems impossible) or put the stock ROM back on? I tried the adb sideload method but I was completely unsuccessful as well as every other method I've seen/could come up with. After trying weeks to get anything back on my Nexus 7 I'm just about ready to toss this paperweight in my drawer and forget abaout it
Which modes can you get into?
TWRP allows you to mount USB OTG. Try flashing something from there.
Press Thanks If I Helped You!
Sent from my dead Nexus 7 2013 LTE! ???
Yes, like aniket0317 wrote: if all else has failed, put a ROM on a flash drive, connect it with a USB OTG adapter, and use TWRP.
I've lately had trouble getting my N7 recognized while in recovery mode, though everything's fine while in the bootloader and Android. But with TWRP it's easy to mount external flash storage and install from that.

download the 4.4.4 image
go to fastboot mode, connect the usb cable to laptop/pc
open command prompt and go to the folder where you have extracted the 4.4.4 image
fastboot oem unlock
type flash-all.bat
if all goes well device should reboot (initally will take some time) if it took more time, reboot again into fastboot mode
this time you can try manually commands one by one
in the folder where you have extracted the 4.4.4 image you will fine "image-razor-ktu84p.zip", extract this zip file as well
execute the following commands one by one:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-flo-flo-04.02.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot
device should reboot and if it displays language screen then cool complete the wizard, reboot in to fastboot mode again to lock the bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot
and enjoy!!! do report back what happens.
fastboot -w update stockrom.zip
I'm a little confused on the instructions, also, as mentioned, my Nexus isn't recognized by my computer no matter what I try.
How does it appear in Device Manager? Have you downloaded and installed the drivers?

in the fastboot mode, after connecting your device to laptop/pc,
if you type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" in the command prompt
what happens?
I am having the exact same problem, it was installing got stuck on "erasing userdata" for over 2 hours and now nothing will work except for fastboot, and some how the device locked itself again. Only thing i can get to is fastboot mode, the computer recognizes the device. When I try to unlock it, it gets stuck in "erasing userdata" I let it run over night last night hoping it would some how work with no luck. I am unsure of what to do. Is there anyway to install a factory OS without unlocking? Every guide I've searched for has me doing an fastboot oem unlock and then the tablet freezes on erasing userdata. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Phone has no fastboot.

Ok so from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-upgrade-cn-version-to-ww-t3101556
I saw this : fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img - droidboot.img is fastboot, and if you somehow will flash corrupted image, you won't be able to boot to fastboot anymore. Thanks to sorg
Is there ANY way to fix that ? Mine is broken and I CAN NOT : root/update recovery/enter bootloader
Basically i am STUCK on the firmware I have and CAN NOT do anything on this phone other than factory reset it but thats just about it.
Search for flash_image. I used it to flash recovery from running system. I suppose it can be used to flash fastboot too.

The phone HAS RECOVERY does NOT HAVE BOOTLOADER
Read entire message. I wrote that this tool probably can be used to flash fastboot too.
You can also try "dd" command from busybox. Check sticky section in Zenfone General forum how to use it.

You shouldn't mess with stuff you don't understand
If you have recovery, can you get to recovery menu?
Droid on back with error underneath and where you have to hold power then up volume to get to recovery menu.
Ok, here is link to flash_image tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
I used it to flash recovery on HTC Sensation, but it should work with fastboot on Zenfone too. The command should be "flash_image fastboot /path/to/droidboot.img"
I'm not sure if it will work, but you already have messed up fastboot so this shouldn't make it worse
The second option is "dd if=/path/to/droidboot.img of=/dev/block/by-name/fastboot" or "dd if=/path/to/droidboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" as fastboot is the third partition. You can execute this even in terminal emulator on phone. Of course I haven't check it, but it's listed in general section to flash recovery (fastboot is just another partition, so it should work too).
About going to recovery maybe you can type " reboot recovery" in terminal emulator or from pc "adb reboot recovery". I'm not sure if it uses fastboot to boot into recovery but it's worth trying.

Firmware flash commands?

EDIT: Solved. This was a computer bug.
Hello. I have a Boost Mobile Moto G Fast. I got the RETUS firmware from here for saving my phone
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/rav/official/RETUS/
The only fastboot command list I found doesn't work. Does anyone have the correct command list to flash this firmware? Also, do I need to be in fastbootd to flash it?
I can't reach fastbootd after installing twrp. 'fastboot reboot fastboot' now sends it to TWRP. Tia for any help!
Update: I flashed the stock recovery on there and I can now get to fastbootd again, so whew!

can i ask you how you flashed stuff in fastbootd? when i try fastboot reboot fastboot i get that huge list of commands and it doesnt take me to fastbootd. But i can get to fastbootd thru recovery. But if i try to flash anything i get a 'failed. file not found' message. do you have to use different commands in fastbootd?
or the usual ones like, fastboot boot boot.img?

Hello, @cnoevl21. So sorry I took so long to get back to you. I need to update my notification settings or something. After what happened to me in this thread, I believe that fastbootd resides in the stock recovery. If you are running TWRP as your recovery at the moment, I'd recommend moving to the directory of the extracted firmware files and running the single "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" command while your phone is in fastboot mode. After that try "fastboot reboot fastboot" again and see if it puts you into fastbootd. Please let me know if that works for you because that will help to confirm my suspicion. This is my first time seeing fastbootd as well, and I wondered the exact same thing. But no, you just run the same fastboot commands just as if you were in regular fastboot mode. Good luck and I hope it works. It did for me.

First of all you downloaded the wrong Stock firmware for the Boost Mobile version of that phone, Boost Mobile variant doesn't use RETUS Firmware, it uses the Boost firmware here:

Bricked device, can't get into EDL mode

Good night.
I have been using for a few days the YAAP custom rom for android 11 on my 7T, and it's been great. But I wanted to root it for some customizations and tried to flash magisk through mauronofrio's unnoficial TWRP. After trying to flash through it, my phone bricked. I can't get into fastbootd mode and the
HTML:
fastboot getvar is-userspace
command outputs "no", so I couldn't re-flash YAAP normally. I tried using the MSM tool for the 7T but I was also not able to boot into EDL mode. When I try to boot into it through the vol up/down mode, it reboots into bootloader again, and the
HTML:
fastboot oem edl
command returns FAILED (remote: unknown command).
I can flash twrp, but when I try to flash the YAAP zip, it shows me an error.
It shows signs of life, as it gets caught into the OOS boot animation loop, so I know there is a way around it, but I am having trouble figuring out how.
Would anyone here know how to circulate this issue? Or has been through something like this?

If you are getting as far as the boot logo then you might be able to format data and try it
can't you reboot to EDL from fastboot?
fastboot reboot EDL ?
You said you can't use the MSM tool. Have you tried the regular all-in-one tool here on the forum?
Try fastboot boot twrp.img, format data and reflash the custom rom?
I'm just throwing ideas out here they may not be the best lol

Can't. I have tried it before. fastboot reboot edl says the command is unknown, and the existing command (fastboot reboot emergency) throws me back to the bootloader.
The logo got weird. It shows up for a second after turning on and then the bootloader shows up.

I'm going to assume you did fastboot reboot fastboot before you tried yes?
I'd go try the all in one. There's a thread for it named "all in one" or something.
The tool might have an option to reboot to EDL I can't remember but I've fixed several soft bricks using it.

Stuck in Fastboot Mode (Recovery mode does not work)

Hello lads,
I have been having issues with my OnePlus Nord N100.
On my fault, I wanted to root with magisk using fastboot. Unfortunately, I had flashed boot a magisk.img which was not compatible with OnePlus Nord N100.
The phone is currently stuck in Fastboot Mode. I have tried several times to flash boot it back to its original boot.img, unfortunately it does not work.
Every time I try to go to Recovery Mode, it leads me right back to the Fastboot main menu. I can turn off the phone and reboot it with no issues.
I believe I have soft bricked it, and I need help recovering it back to it's original state, or better yet root it in a riskless way.
Here is a list of commands and techniques I have tried so far:
- Fastboot -w
- Fastboot erase cache
- Fastboot erase boot
- Fastboot erase boot_a
- Fastboot erase boot_b
- Fastboot boot boot.img (Ends up with a failure)
- Fastboot flash boot boot.img (Command is successful, but no changes for boot)
- Tried all combinations keys to go to Recovery Mode (Power button + Volume Down Button + Volume Up Button)
Thank you for helping me out if you can.

Hey mate,
Thanks for responding. Sorry for the late reply.
From what you had suggested, I did "fastboot --set-active=a" , "fastboot flash boot boot.img", and "fastboot reboot" (with the stock unpatched boot.img) the commands were successful once again, but there were no effective changes.
Afterwards, I did "fastboot --setactive-b", "fastboot flash boot boot.img", and "fastboot reboot" the commands were successful once more, and this time, I was finally able to go into recovery mode. On the other hand, in recovery mode I wiped the cache and erased everything, but unfortuantely I still could not boot into Android, even though I tried to flash boot the image once more.
Thank you for these commands, as I was at least able to recover recovery mode.
Any other suggestions maybe?

Hello,
I used the tool MSMDownload but unfortunately I was unable at all to boot into Qualcomm Edl mode, even though I have installed correctly all the drivers for Windows Qualcomm, and OnePlus USB drivers, and used the correct method (Volume Button UP and Down at the same time whilst connecting the phone via USB). I tried flash booting with the boot.img you gave me, but still no changes. I am still stuck in Fastboot.
If you had encountered the same issue back then, can you tell me the excat procedure you did please?
Thank you so much.
I was in the exact same situation after flashing boot.img from one plus nord by mistake.
It got so bad it was totally bricked and just got into EDL mode by holding down the up and down volume buttons and holding power on. Even the screen didn't work.
Once that started, MSMDownload tool from the N100 thread worked fine, you downloaded the proper package right?
Which model does it say on the back? This was BE2013.
I think solution for you is a fastboot image, I extracted the payload.bin to .img files and brought it back to life with it and rooted it with magisk.
The boot.img I uploaded here was from Oxygen OS 10.5.5.
If you have fastboot you should 100% be able to boot into EDL mode, just hold down the up and down volume buttons for long time and then the power button
Thanks

Thank you that's very kind of you. I think the only way to fix it by flash boot.img, but I have doubts because it does not work.
The only commands I am doing are "fastboot devices", "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
With the fastboot image you will be able to flash everything, it contains not only boot.img but system and etc. I managed to boot mine and bring it back to life by reflashing everyhing.
So the only thing I need to do is "fastboot flash boot ''.img" right?
Where can I get all the nesscary files?
And how did you manage to root it?
The fastboot image flashes all partitions, not just boot with stock Oxygen OS 10.5.5
What you need to do is run flash-all.bat from the archive and it will flash the entire os not just boot.img.
If you can't get to EDL mode, fastboot flash is the only solution. What model does it say in the back? This one was EUROPE BE2013.
Is your EU or Global device?
Archive is uploading still.
Thanks
The model is the correct one. BE2013, although it does not say EU or anything.
In the archive, I would just need to run flash-all.bat which flash boots all the nesscary images correct?
Thank you once agian.
2.55 GB file on MEGA
mega.nz
This is a fastboot image for OnePlus NORD N100 EU BE2013 device.
Extract it to a new folder, it contains fastboot in it.
Right click flash-all.bat and run as admin.
You can open the flash-all.bat file with notepad to check yourself there is nothing strange in it. I used a bat file from the forum that was fastboot image for OnePlus NORD and changed it to use the .img files for OnePlus NORD N100.
Contains Oxygen 10.5.5, once you bring it back to life (IF YOU HAVE THIS MODEL), you can use magisk to patch the boot.img and flash it via fastboot.
This is how I rooted it and it worked properly.
Please use it with caution and ensure your model matches! I can not guarantee it will work on other devices.
If you can't go to EDL mode, this is your way to go, but I don't know if flashing GLOBAL version will work.
Thanks
