Hi XDA,
Just discovered that pictures taken in portrait mode do not contain exif data and this makes
organizing a bit difficult...
I know i can add them using an exif editor but it is very time consuming.
Any way to fix that? Workaround?
Thanks
Working
Working for me, on latest Android 9 DP beta with latest Google Camera apk.
Thanks but that is not portrait mode, right?

Yeah from the file name that doesn't appear to be a portrait mode pic. Looking at my pics, I do see what you are talking about and am missing photo information like aperture, shutter speed, ISO. Looks like it might've been DP5 that broke it.

Exactly.
I am on DP5 and i've just checked my album, seems like the exif data in portrait mode is gone since DP4...
In DP3 it was still fine.
Too bad i didn't notice it earlier...
Google must fix it in the final version of Android P(9)!

Definitely DP5 pics for me. I went back and see the data just fine from a week or more ago.

and on DP5 they are definitely gone...

Actually I went through more pics and see that both DP4 and DP5 have inconsistent EXIF data. I have a portrait photo taken yesterday that does indeed have EXIF.

EXIF data from a pic from today and yesterday. Just cropped out the location info but it was there as well.

Thanks,
Tried many times today on DP5, no way I can get the exit data stored..
Please let me know if you find some interesting settings and/or workaround [emoji4]

So, my question for you today is: whats your default gallery app? Do you guys use the Google Photos as default? Im asking this because my opinion about GPhotos is that its not a quickly and fast app, I have 4.000 pics on my N5X and on GPhotos it haves some lags maybe due to this amount of pics.
If is another app, tell me what is, I would like to test new ones.
Thanks.

Installed here, really like it! Its more faster and easy to use, also haves a good interface.
Thanks! Will keep it as my default gallery app, if someone have another suggestion just post here
Quickpic.
Piktures is my new favorite. Stumbled upon it the other day. Really like it so far. The secret drive is a pretty cool feature too lol
I used to use QuickPic and Google Photos but went minimalist and using just Google Photos now. Mainly cause I don't keep as much hard copies on my phone anymore with everything backed up to Google Photos now. Including all my photos on my computer.

I use quick pic but an older version before it was sold to cheetah mobile. And resigned so it doesn't show updates.

The Cheetah Mobile version is still really good actually. Have you tried it recently? The only ad-like thing they added was an album looking button for their cloud storage which can easily be hidden.

No. I won't use anything they release. They have the worst rep around for a reason.

For Clean Master and their own stuff yes, I agree. But QuickPic hasn't turned into one of those.

We can agree to disagree on that. I have been watching the app and watching what others have had to say about the latest updates and to be honest I see no reason to update. The cloud storage options are useless to me, nor would I use servers from that part of the world.
For me and thousands of others there is no reason to update.

Is anyone else having problems with youtube crashing on launch? Mine crashes each time on initial launch and is then stable.
Any ideas?

I have force closes probably every 4th time I open the app. It'll probably be fixed soon.
Someone on reddit or here mentioned that in dev settings, turning on disable usb audio routing fixes this. try it out..
Interesting. I haven't seen this problem once and I'm a heavy YouTube user. I also have YouTube Red, which may or may not be why I'm not having the same problem.
Happens all the time

I haven't had any issues with YouTube either and i spend atleast 2 hours on it every day. Not a Red user however.
It happens with me, usually when I'm opening a link from another application.
It's not just the YouTube app, either. It's not a big deal, just re-open and it works. It is an annoyance however.

Does anyone know why Google doesn't support Project Tango AR in their flagship devices? Seems if they wanted AR to improve, they'd push it in their home built phones.
I believe tango was renamed or rebuilt into ARcore. Def could be wrong

So I'm using my pixel 2 XL and on the Instagram app camera when I take the picture it zooms out. So when looking at the view finder, by default it's zoomed in and then when rendering the picture it zooms out.
Is there a way to fix that or has anyone else experienced this?
No, Instagram is just the worst app for Android out there.
My friend has that issue but I don't. I never use the camera in Instagram for the feeds but I will use the story camera on occasion.

Oh hmm, I get the issue on both for feed and story camera.
I didn't use to have that problem and just appeared out of nowhere. Even when they activated the chip on Instagram it still worked fine and then it just started zoomed in and the final pictures are zoomed out.
My main bug I have with Instagram is the frozen story video when adding stickers. It still plays when published but you can see how it is before sending.

Oh wow that's crazy. I don't have that bug at all. Was trying to make it happen right now and it works fine. It's really weird that each pixel device experiences different bugs with the same app.
Yeah I've had this since DP2 I think. Did the usual clear app data and uninstall, reinstall.
Oh and another bug I have is I can't add a soundtrack to stories nor can I play the music. I get a "Can't be played in your region" message. But I was able to do both when the feature first came out.

Hi guys
So i have had my pixel 2 xl for about 8 months and was initially on Android 8.0 then joined the beta program for pie and have been on it since.
About 3 months ago i noticed that photos on my device (DCIM\Camera) went from like 600 photos to 150. I did not delete these and i could not find them anywhere on my device. Luckily as all my photos are backed up to google photos so i didnt lose anything. However 2 weeks ago the same thing happened again where by more photos got deleted and yet again i did not do anything on the device.
I am planning on doing a hard reset and starting again but wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone else has seen this or may know if this is software or hardware related. There are other users with similar issues but no answers.
I use Quickpic for Gallery App along with the google photos app.
Many thanks in adv for any input....

You probably have intelligent storage activated. a lot of people don't know about this lol.
It basically deletes photos and videos which haven't been used for 30,60 or 90 days.
You can disable it in the settings app under storage.

It's probably this. I set mine to 90 days so I don't have to deal with micromanaging my storage yet I have it's enough for me to keep locally.

Yes i think it was because of the Smart Storage was "on" under Storage. It was set to "remove backed-up photos/videos over 60 days". So i have turned off this setting, this should hopefully keep all my photos.
I have also removed quickPic from my device after reading that link you sent.

You could try Simple Gallery (or it's Pro version), instead. It's simple and efficient.
