Whats your default gallery app? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, my question for you today is: whats your default gallery app? Do you guys use the Google Photos as default? Im asking this because my opinion about GPhotos is that its not a quickly and fast app, I have 4.000 pics on my N5X and on GPhotos it haves some lags maybe due to this amount of pics.
If is another app, tell me what is, I would like to test new ones.
Thanks.

Installed here, really like it! Its more faster and easy to use, also haves a good interface.
Thanks! Will keep it as my default gallery app, if someone have another suggestion just post here

Quickpic.

Piktures is my new favorite. Stumbled upon it the other day. Really like it so far. The secret drive is a pretty cool feature too lol

I used to use QuickPic and Google Photos but went minimalist and using just Google Photos now. Mainly cause I don't keep as much hard copies on my phone anymore with everything backed up to Google Photos now. Including all my photos on my computer.

I use quick pic but an older version before it was sold to cheetah mobile. And resigned so it doesn't show updates.

The Cheetah Mobile version is still really good actually. Have you tried it recently? The only ad-like thing they added was an album looking button for their cloud storage which can easily be hidden.

No. I won't use anything they release. They have the worst rep around for a reason.

We can agree to disagree on that. I have been watching the app and watching what others have had to say about the latest updates and to be honest I see no reason to update. The cloud storage options are useless to me, nor would I use servers from that part of the world.
For me and thousands of others there is no reason to update.

You're welcome. Yes, thanks to the flexibility of Android it scales perfectly fine and at least on a 7" tablet the experience is just as good as on the phone, but with slightly more content.
Is there no widget? How stupid

Which is exactly what got me to patch the apk to remove that check. They should really have filtered it out using the Play Store filters instead if they didn't want tablet users.
Honestly, except for the multiple account support, I do believe that Falcon Pro is a better option..

I questioned them about this and their response was because they wanted to allow "larger phones" the ability to download.
I'm trying both Falcon and Carbon right now. I haven't decided which I prefer. I'm not a huge Twitter user.

Not bad...still prefer tweetdeck.
I designed this app to work on Mobiles, filtering it through Play Store would filter some of the big phones, that was our doubt.
I designed it, and I can tell, that it's an awkward app to be used on a Tablet. I did announce (I'm still not allowed to post links here since I haven't passed 10 posts yet) that we're working on a Tablet app. Check our page on Google+ (+CarbonAndroid)
C'mon guys! Patch an app, jus' like that? And hosting it on Dropbox? Months of work and you guys deal with it just like that? C'mon!

Come on, after months and months of "developing", still no widget, no tablet support? Yes, you say you are working on a tablet app, but considering how long the phone app took, which is no more than a beta, it looks like a heck of a long time to wait for possible vaporware, especially considering the history of this app.

I agree that it probably doesn't work that well on 10" tablets but the experience on the Nexus 7 in portrait mode is good. Also, I assumed people using the modified app also used your app on their phone in most cases which means that no extra API token is taken up, unlike the included multi-user feature. I patched the app for my personal use but since people requested it I posted it here.
I honestly fail to see what your problem is with this. XDA users post patched APKs all the time to remove arbitrary limitations (Hulu, Netflix and Swype to name a few). If/when you release a tablet app, even a paid one, the interest for this will go away if the experiance is better. I'd be willing to remove the link to the patched APK when you release the tablet version. Until then, this is the only way for tablet users to enjoy your work.

Yeah, I tried unlinking and relinking. Didn't work. I decided to just pay the $5 per year and go back to DeskSMS. It has been super reliable across any and every build on my phone, and its companion, TabletSMS, has worked with both my Nexus 7 and my TouchPad. Worth the money to me.
App store issues?

Derp... wrong app. Finally figured it out
I use it but I'm a little concerned about privacy... Its obvious the actual texts and phone numbers are going through mighty texts servers to get from AT&Ts system to my nexus 7 which is only connected via WiFi, or is that incorrect? I text a lot of highly sensitive info due to my line of work. I hope I'm worried for nothing because its a great app and one more reason to put my phone down while I'm on my tablet.

I think it's going through googles servers since you login with your Google credentials, but I guess that could be just for authentication. If you need more privacy tablet talk syncs via Bluetooth but I think you have to pair it a lot.

[Q] Replacement Gallery App

So I've had my TMobile Note 3 since last week Thursday. Enjoying it so far, but theres a ton of bloatware. I use Nova Laucher and turn off/hide the bloatware apps that I don't use. Don't want to root.
My gripe is with the stock Gallery app. It's really slow, as far as how quickly the pics load when you open it. I'm used to the Gallery loading pics a lot faster. I used to use QuickPic when I had my Nexus S. But I noticed yesterday that QuickPic doesn't let you sync your Google+/Picasa albums to it's interface.
Any other suggestions for a replacement gallery app that is simple yet loads pics fast and can sync with Google+/Picasa pics (at least)?
Thanks in advance.

Did you find any apps/.apks that are CheetahMobile/CleanMaster crapware?
I didn't see anything obvious (on my T-Mobile variant),but,I suspect some of the apps with the "Smart" in the app/.apk name may be their garbage.
I'm hoping this crapware,if it's installed, isn't hidden as it is on the AT&T/VZW models of the Note 5.

Yeah it's not the greatest but it still works well in chrome. Also you get to use everything that you normally do. I personally set up a button widget to turn the VPN on or off.
FWIW, I have the paid version of adguard and find it works extremely well. With paid version you have https ad blocking, in-app ad blocking, and some other useful features. I forget if these additional features are available on free version. But for non rooted phones, I think this is a great option.
Also, Crystal for Samsung Browser will block ads in their app. I don't really have a need for it but it's there anyway lol.

It's super important that you reenable all apps that you've disabled with Package Disabler before you do any update. I learned that the hard way once and my phone was all screwy until I did a factory reset.

Photos permanently/randomly deleted from device (Camera) folder on my Pixel 2 XL

Hi guys
So i have had my pixel 2 xl for about 8 months and was initially on Android 8.0 then joined the beta program for pie and have been on it since.
About 3 months ago i noticed that photos on my device (DCIM\Camera) went from like 600 photos to 150. I did not delete these and i could not find them anywhere on my device. Luckily as all my photos are backed up to google photos so i didnt lose anything. However 2 weeks ago the same thing happened again where by more photos got deleted and yet again i did not do anything on the device.
I am planning on doing a hard reset and starting again but wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone else has seen this or may know if this is software or hardware related. There are other users with similar issues but no answers.
I use Quickpic for Gallery App along with the google photos app.
Many thanks in adv for any input....

You probably have intelligent storage activated. a lot of people don't know about this lol.
It basically deletes photos and videos which haven't been used for 30,60 or 90 days.
You can disable it in the settings app under storage.

Yes i think it was because of the Smart Storage was "on" under Storage. It was set to "remove backed-up photos/videos over 60 days". So i have turned off this setting, this should hopefully keep all my photos.
I have also removed quickPic from my device after reading that link you sent.

You could try Simple Gallery (or it's Pro version), instead. It's simple and efficient.
