from y'day.. sometimes i get the below message when i switch the phone
"phone could not able to backup data to SD card"...
The phone seems to lose access rights to the SD Card, so nothing is displayed in the file manager (estrong or Astor) The only way to fix this is to restart the phone.
in the phone settings-> SD scard option, I still have the option to unmount the SD card.. but then I don't know who to mount it back.. the only way i am able to fix it is by restarting the phone...
from y'day till now I got this problem for 3 times..
Anybody else having problems with this? please help..
Hi, I have the same issuses. It is very annoying, especially when taking photos. I tried reformat card, but it worked only for a week. I have got euro version, firmware 1.15.405.4. I hope HTC will solve this issue together with multitouch issues in next firmware.
I bought a 16Gb card and cannot get it to work in the Desire.
I've tested it in the PC, formatted it etc but it still won't work.
I'm not convinced where the fault lies, with the card or the Desire.
I had a problem once with sd+camera app, but after a reboot everything worked
funny enuff. that happened to me 2 yesterday ?

One of my 16GB cards also got corrupted. I found it did not slide into the SDHC card slot properly and did become dislodged. Check to see if the SD card is inerted correctly. My replacement 8GB seems fine.

I have 16 GB Kingston Class 2 in my Desire and no problem so far, quite cheap too.
I have had this a couple of times.
Install the SDMount Widget. Unmount the card in settings, click the widget, back in business.
I'm experiencing this issue about once a week... :/

This doesn't work. I have the same problem as described above. I just ordered a new 8gb SD Card. I hope it's an SD card problem and not something wrong with the phone
Thread with same discussion here if you wanna check it out.
I've also been having SD card issues since I got the phone but yesterday things got worse!
After the problem occured again, I thought I'd try removing and reinserting the SD card (despite having done this before). When I restarted the phone it came up with a this message on the notification bar:
Blank SD Card
SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem.
I've tried reformatting the card in the phone, with the phone attached to my comp via USB, and with the card in a card reader. None of this works; the computer just doesn't recognise the card.
I've just emailed HTC support with the problem. I'll report back when I get an answer.
Also 16GB issue
Since a few days I have issues with my 16GB card also. I tried to install Navigon on the card by copying files directly to the card. After inserting it into the phone two out of three directories were empty....
Trying to copy fromt the pc to the Desire using it as a disk drive gave me the blue screen of death
I tried to install it using the original 4GB card and everything works like a charm
I tested the 16GB card (forgot what tool, it was a 1 month trial without write testing) and the card came out fats enough and without any bad blocks.
I will do a write test this evening (EU time) to see if I can fit 16GB ont the card, but everything points to the phone at this moment

I've had exactly the same problem which I posted about in another thread. Do let us know if HTC get back to you
Same problem with my Desire and a Sandik 16 Gb Class 2...
The card works fine on my mp3 player, but it is not recognized by the phone. I'm going to contact HTC, too.
My Desire has complained twice now that my 16GB SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. But when I put it in my Nokia N97, it works fine. The last time I did a disk check in XP, and that took care of the problem for a while at least, but it seems strange that the problem appeared in the first place.
Having invested in a 16gb class 2 Kingston card for my desire I can tell you that it brings nothing but grief. I then purchased a 8gb class 6 pqi branded card and found it to be flawless in performance. One thing I noticed with the class 6 card is the very fast speed in copying to and from the card. Much faster than the Kingston class 2. On the class 6 card I have never had corruption of data or any problem. I see comments posted that the class makes no difference. In my experience it makes a huge difference.
you guys are having issues with your 8GB/16GB cards, i was considering getting a 32GB a few days from now, after reading all this i'm having second thoughts.. does size matter ? (pardon the pun)
I don't think the size of the card should matter, but then again - it just might. I was wondering if there's a slight possibility my card got corrupted from when I've had it connected to my computer in disk mode. I only use the "safe disconnection of hardware" button in XP, but I don't select to unmount it on the Desire - it shouldn't be a problem, but perhaps that's how it got broken. Or perhaps it's just damaged and glitchy
Make sure the MBR is formatted too. Windows does not do this by default. Search for a tool on the internet.
Hi,
Seen various SD card problems posted here and other forums but no solutions.
A few nights ago I was transferring a large number of files to my Desire and noticed the transfer windows froze so I disconnected my phone. When I then tried to turn the screen on it wouldn't turn on (though the led kept blinking). I eventually had to restart the phone by removing the battery.
Upon restarting I got an error saying the SD card was corrupted and needed to be formatted. Tried restarting again etc but didn't work so clicked on 'format' in the pop-up but nothing happened even after several attempts. Then tried doing this through the settings menu but again didn't work.
Gave up. Wake up next morning and phone screen won't come on again. Took out battery again and still had memory card problem so connected to pc and formatted card on there. I think after this the card started working again but WITH ALL THE DATA STILL ON IT. No idea how!?
This morning after 4 days working fine I connect phone to pc to transfer music and don't get an option to mount USB so I unplugged and get a new SD card error: blank SD card. SD card blank or has unsupported file system. So tried everything I tried last time but this time I can't mount the card so I can't access it on a pc to format it.
Anyone had similar problems on here? Seems to have happened to quite a few on Android forums etc. Any suggestions? Have tried putting card in and out several times. Have tried SD mount widget. Getting pretty desperate here.

had exactly the same issue you had the second time, posted, found no fix.
Using a spare sd card I had in it's place, my phone registered it as blank again the next day! It was a reboot job though and it has been fine since..
Would like to get to the bottom of this before a blow a decent sized card
I have had many many bizzare and quite frankly random SD card errors with this phone. Nearly one everyday doing something. Most of them read the same SD card missing, needs formatting, is empty or corrupted notifications. The latest one occurred 5 mins back on reinstalling NewsRoom app -- suddenly left with a totally empty SD card when trying to save RSS to it. As in every case, an immediate reboot fixed the error so I can't offer any more help.
Whenever I've had the "needs formatting" error I removed the card for a few mins before replacing it back inand it worked fine thereafter.

I've just tried leaving the card out for a few minutes with the phone off and reinserting to no avail. Tried restarting lots of times
Going to try another SD card now. Most people on other forums had problems with their stock 4gb cards whereas mine is an 8GB card i got separately. I think it's the phone at fault not the cards.
**Update** The other SD card is working fine so far. But i'm now left with a screwed up 8gb card that's not recognised by any pc. Any suggestions of how to fix this?
If my 4gb card is screwed up by the phone too i'll let you all know
I am having issues with a Sandisk memory card on my Note 2. For whatever reason, it stopped working- like completely. I can't format it, I can't delete anything off of it, or put anything on it. I haven't write protected it either, which I found odd whenever I went to troubleshoot it on my computer. I have even tried the Command Prompt method of troubleshooting/formatting- but with no results whatsoever. I read online that ALOT of users are having the same problems with their SD Cards out of nowhere, because of an update (my phone is rooted and on 4.1.2 and hasn't been updated).
Might I also add, that when the SD Card stopped working, I noticed that there were extra files put on there that weren't originally there that are from Android (such as google.music and such) and I know I didn't put that on there. I'm just wondering if anyone has found a fix to this? I've tried everything, but I feel as if my SD card is shot (my phone automatically updates apps and such and I'm quite confident it did the same to my External SD Card as it has with other people). I just have alot of things on my phone I need to add for work, and it's super inconvenient that my phone is only 8GB and has a 60GB SD Card with the potential to work again. I would buy another card, but I wouldn't want to spend the money on one, just for something like this to happen again if you know what I mean, lol.
Hey guys and girls!
This morning my phone turned off by itself (13% battery left) and needed somewhat longer than usual to reboot (in the meantime I plugged it back in to the charger). First thing I noticed was that my whole theme got reset as well as it started showing me introductional tips ("long press here to move your apps to the homescreen, ecc.). It also started to update apps in the Play Store even though I set it to manual ... so basically a LOT of things were reset.
The biggest problem I'm having now is though that all my files (pictures, videos, music) that are stored on an external micro SD card are corrupt. It's not possible anymore to open anything. I already removed the micro SD card and put it into an adapter to have a look at the files via the laptop. But nothing, even though the sizes of the files seem OK, I can't open them.
Does anyone have a clue as to what exactly happened here? Are those files lost (at least of some I have a backup) or is there anything I can do to "repair" them? Help is really appreciated, thanks!
PS: Things like the card unmounting and re-mounting never occurred. So I can't tell if the card was dying or if actually the phone ruined my files.
Did you happen to be using a SanDisk SD Card? I've had my 10 brick 2 of those until I switched to Samsung SD Cards about a year ago and haven't had issues since.
I never could manage to recover files from the damaged SD cards.
I have a Samsung SD card and had something similar.
I guess I was on Viper Rom and basically my phone restarted around 15-20% of battery. After a long wait for booting back again, all my settings were gone.
Files and others in the SD card was okay but basically until I formatted the card, I wasn't able to boot into the Download Mode to install a new rom...
I fixed the restart issue by installing the official HTC Rom.
Thanks for your replies.
It is indeed a SanDisk 16GB card. It seems though that the card is still working (no problems accessing it via phone or laptop), just the files appear to be broken. In the meantime I also tried apps like PC Inspector File Recovery, but to no success
I'm still on stock HTC Sense by the way, no root, nothing.
Anyone know though why that happened (resetting everything, etc.)?
Hit me with a PM I'll give you a SanDisk restore tool which works quite ok. there is a huge chance some files can be recovered, some will be damaged though. Don't push any new files on the card after you tried to restore the files
HTC 10-Corrupted microSD card
I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering if there is a solution. I have an HTC 10 which has an micro SD card in it, that is "married" to the phone. When connected to a computer, the computer recognizes the phone, and the microSD card, and begins to load the folders/files. Eventually this process stalls, and the phone/drive is no longer readable by the computer. To get the computer to recognize the phone/card again, I need to restart the phone, but the same thing happens again.
I have like 20gigs of data on the card, and cannot just put the card in a reader, because it's encrypted to the phone. Any possible solutions? It's frustrating to see the files/pictures for a minute or two, and then have them disappear. I have tried copying/pasting the files while they're visible, but this often triggers the computer to no longer recognize the phone/memory card. I've tried to un-encrypt the microSD card, but the phone can't recognize/access the microSD card long enough to complete that process.
Please help if you can.
Glenn
Hello everyone.
My main issue for a few months has been the microSD card. Before I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed custom ROMs, my SD card worked fine, which was a SanDisk Ultra Class 10 32GB. After doing those things, my microSD card (or my phone) has been suffering a problem where it either corrupts or it disappears from the configurations of the phone, even after buying a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSD card. I even unrooted, reinstalled the stock ROM and locked the bootloader but this keep happening.
This is incredibly frustating, because my main use for the card is Spotify, Netflix and Youtube Go! (I like to download everything on the highest quality possible) and every time it corrupts or dissapears I have to format the card and download everything once again. I even tried formatting it for internal storage but it dissapeared out of the blue other day just like it happens when it's setup as external storage.
Does anyone else have the same issue or know any fix to this?
It may be a hardware issue with the sd card reader

And only Motorola would be able to fix it?
A hardware specialist could, it's not just limited to Motorola workers.
I have similar problem/s
A. It takes a lot of time until card is ready
B. After it shows as ready, it can dissappear after a few min.
I u reinsert it, it takes more time, and sometimes fixes the issue.
The weird part. If it is ok, it will work like that until next reboot.
I really dislike this phone.

You don't need to format it
If it says sd card corrupted when you turn the phone on simply remove the sdcard (whilst the phone is still on) wait a few seconds then put it back in again
This works if formatted as external storage - not tried as internal as I don't see benefits in this

It says SD card corrupted while using the cell phone. Like, let's put this situation:
I had downloaded all my Spotify songs in the highest quality they allowed, listened to them while coming back from University on a Tuesday night. I put my G5 to charge during my sleep. When I wake up the next day to go to work, I cannot access any of the music, because suddenly my SD card disappeared from the cell phones (if I go check in the settings, it says 24,59 GB instead of 84,06 GB). After a few minutes, the SD card re-appears but says it's corrupted.
Since creating this thread, I haven't added anything to the SD card and I never got the issue again, so I'm pretty sure it's something with the way Spotify files work.

Have you tried connecting your sd card to the pc and check for the available space ? If it does then copy the data to your pc, format your sd card (ControlPanel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk manager).
Then re-insert the blank sd card into your phone and see if it shows up.
