Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Battery and CPU heat | Is this normal? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Questions & Answers

I got my XZ2 Compact and I noticed that the phone will get quite warm if I watch YouTube or play some games. Battery and CPU temperature are both about 42°C in maximum. Is this normal or does my phone has some problems? What temperatures do you have?

Doesn't seem crazy hot, but it's probably best to not let the phone sit at that temperature for too long.

Yeah. It's quite hot weather now where I live (Over 30 Celsius) so it might be one reason.
Hopefully there is nothing wrong on my phone. I am interested to hear other users temperatures.

Hi,
There's no problems with these temperatures, especially when playing games, there's nothing less than the most powerful portable CPU of the year in this phone.
Looking at my temps, I never get under 25°C but I already reached up to 50°C when playing a very heavy games on a hot summer day.
Is there any throttling on your CPU?

Are these temperatures normal?

I've had my M5 (E5603) for about a month now and my CPU temp peaks at around 60-70°C (140-158°F) according CPU Monitor during heavy use (eg. intense gaming or extensive 4K UHD recording). Not once has my device thrown a warning at me or shut down, nor has the performance been affected in any way. During normal use, temperature stays somewhere between 40-55°C (104-131°F). Battery temperature always stays below 40°C (104°F).
So, I was wondering, are these temperatures normal? Could any harm befall on my device? Besides being a tad bit too hot to hold on the back and also the front, it doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
Anybody?
Yes these temperatures are normal. Don't worry.
If cpu temperature is above 65 celcius it is little bit not good. Temperatures of cpu between 55-65 celcius perfectly normal for a waterproof phone.
Don't worry.
M4 aqua heated to 65-80 celcius in it's intial firmware.
This forced sony to release the m5 to cover up the problem in the m4 aqua. ? ? ?
So overheating fixed on m5.
Basically, this is why it is waterproof, so you gotta put it inside water to get colder
(as I have fount everything is normal)

Normal temperature range for OP3

What are the normal temperature for oneplus 3, when playing games, using fb,messsenger, whatsapp in 4g and watching video and doing all the same activities in an ambent temperature of 29
I don't think many people actually measure temps of their phones ... Suffice to say - it can get pretty warm, but not too hot (maybe max around 45°C on surface). Internal (cpu) I guess could easily achieve 70+.
P.S.: Stop being so paranoid! This is at least third thread you opened about temperatures and people keep telling you that your phone is NOT overheating ...

This is the reason
I posted a pic using cpu Z... It was when I was uploading a video in Instagram.... See sensors Reaching 50-55???
I was tethering and using Instagram.. Is this normal for this
With light usage i get about 30°c and on heavy load the cpu goes up to 70°c, those temps are pretty normal
FFS it's a metal backed device which conducts heat but also passively cools faster. Devices are getting very powerful. I came from a Z3+ which hit 80-90 °c on the soc. This device is no where near being "hot" and that's from running consistent synthetic benchmarks and gets to 50°c but cooled very fast.
If it hits 80°c + on the Soc not the individual cores as they ramp up and down very fast then maybe you can repost.
Holy crap I'm tired of this... Those sensors are for the CPU, the CPU throttles at 85°C and here you are asking us the same question in which we've already answered you.. THERE IS NO PROBLEM with your phone. Now stop asking these questions and stop being so freakin paranoid. It's hot outside your phone will get hot.

Mi5s starts throttling at low temperatures

Hello. I have noticed that my mi5s has some lag while playing asphalt 8 even at medium settings. After doing some benchmarks with 3DMark I realized that there is a drop in performance at relatively low temperature.
At "Ice storm unlimited" I have a score around 30,000 when the cpu is cool. However when I hit a 36 degrees of Celsius I am around 27,400. Furthermore, if the temperature increase at 39 Celsius , the performance drops even more and 23,500. This gets even worse when I hit 40+ Celsius where the score drops under 20,000 and if I semi-covered it with a cloth to reach higher temp it gets around 16,600 at 45 degrees of Celsius. After that it need to cool down to 33 degrees of Celcius to restore its performance
Needless to say that these temperatures are very easy to reach when you are playing a game. Has anyone noticed something similar? Any suggestions?
I have the 3/64 version with the 7.7.20 developers. Same issues were faced with the 7.7.6. . I have not tested in depth with the global rom but I think I had similar issues (it was only for a day). The room temperature is around 30 degrees of Celsius.

If you're okay with the high temperatures then you could disable all the CPU thermal throttles from any kernel manager app, though you need to be rooted.

I was thinking something similar but I do not want to disable it fully but just increasing the threshold by 2 or 3 degrees of Celcius. I am rooted but I am not sure how I can do the modification. From some quick search that I have done there should be a file named thermal-mplampla.conf (I do not remember the exact name) where you can modify it but I am not sure by how much should I change the respective lines for just a 2 or 3 degrees increase.
Anyone that have been playing around with thresholds and have any tips or guide before messing around?

First of all, that isn't the CPU temperature but the battery temperature. This phone actually has fantastic thermals due to its aluminum back and well placed SOC. No wonder you're getting throttling, you live in 30°C and you're playing games, what do you expect? Every phone on the face of the earth will throttle to that level. Just saying, your CPU is running probably around 70-80°C while playing intense games. So if you continue to play, it will eventually heat up the rest of the phone.
40°C destroys a batteries lifetime and 45°C everyday will reduce your battery within half a year which is why they throttle phones. Hell my One plus 3 in 30°C weather will throttle like crazy and that's the best phone in terms of throttling. Its normal. Stop playing crappy games like Asphalt 8 in 30°C and go enjoy the sunny weather instead.

Actually the truth is somewhere in the middle. I have used an app called "cpu temperature" but if I check the battery temperature it shows exactly the same degrees. So I guess it mistakenly shows the temperature of the battery. Do you have a more reliable app to check cpu temp?
On the other hand, 30 degrees of Celcius is not that high. In the winter usually we do not let the room temperature drop under 20 degrees since we use heating. Nevertheless, I will let it as it is for now and check again after 5 or 6 weeks where the temperature should be cooler.

You need a rooted phone to see actual CPU temperature. The best way to do this is get an app called simple system monitor (blue app icon) and go in temperature zones and you'll find a bunch of sensors there. There's a bunch of them that are for the CPU and you kinda have to figure it out yourself (I don't know exactly which one it is, one of the tz_sensor ones) by running a CPU benchmark and finding the ones that show the highest temperature. If you were to remove thermal throttling, and maxed out the CPU and GPU, you will see your CPU hit around 100-110°C and your phones gonna shut down for protection. And I'm in Canada so 30°C is extremely high haha.

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Sony Xperia XZ Premium stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Mine has not yet heated at all! I have used Zarchiver to zip and unzip, several large games (modern combat 5, order and chaos 2 etc). Even in direct sunlight, the phone only became luke warm!
same story...this phone remains cold. in every condition.
for me it it the coolest phone i have ever had
I live in a tropical country, so the ambient temp is high most of the time. Despite that, my phone only gets really warm, but not too hot. Very impressed with the thermal management on this phone.
I just got back from Mexico. Jumped in the pool and didn't realize I left my phone sitting in the sun. According to GSam Battery Monitor, the temperature of my battery was at 50 degree Celsius and it was only luke warm to the touch. Very impressed. I was scared for my battery tho lol
i play Clash of Clans on my XZP and see the temps getting as high as 106 degrees. It's pretty warm in the back. Not sure how anyone is really able to say theirs is "cool" all the time.
PC is not cool when playing games. Why would be XPERIA XZ Premium cool when playing games?

Because its cpu's tdp is under 5 watts with the integrated gpu while a pc's cpu could easily go over 100 and have additional gpu and other heat inducing components around?
Don't get me wrong, many phones get hot during intensive gaming and that's not a huge minus considering they don't have cooling. Sony's done good job with it and it's on par with other flagships with sd 835 considering it's a pretty efficient chipset. It's just that the comparison you made was out of place.
Mine does get warm sometimes, but that's it. Just warm.
My old G3 used to get really hot near the Power/Volume buttons when gaming or running VR apps.
It's the kind of hot where you notice it, but it doesn't really bother you. Unlike my G3 where I had to move my fingers away from that area.
More importantly, it hasn't stopped an app or lowered the brightness due to heat yet.
Omg 50.7 dc
My phone can get hot doing VR stuff, but otherwise it seems near impossible to get it hot unless it's a very hot day and I'm out in the sun.
Then it's possible to get the camera app to warn about heat, although this has never actually progressed on to the point where the camera shuts down. Not like my Z3 where 10 minutes of photo taking and that was your lot.
The phone is amazing, I manage to record 4k videos more then 30 min and phone didnt need to turn off cus of heat, like on Z5P.

Mine only gets warm when viewing 4K Youtube HDR video
Never had this phone overheat. Even when video calling over 4G.
pretty cool always, can get warm but only warm
in love with it, snapdragon 835 does the trick to prevent overheating.
although when viewing 4k content or in 4k mod it does get hot, but hey which device wouldnt showing 4k? im impressed
i live in Jakarta,Indonesia and my XZP only gets hot when the signal is weak.other than that the device is around 30 celcius to 37 celcius.
Well to add to this conversation , Got this phone and regarding heating it heats for sure in some situations, but not as much as Z3 dual in same situations (my previous phone) and I am not worry about heating as Z3 dual heats a lot when playing pokemon go on sunny days during summer and never had heat warring except playing same game in background while recorded HD video of car crash in front of me, that is only when I got heat warning on Z3. On XZ premium same situation I could feel some higher temperature in hand, but not even close to Z3 , and another worst situation is game pokemon go and mass evolving in game (who knows what is it) it brings Z3 to very high temp, while XZ premium gets up to with temp enough to be able to feel it. Zip large files with password 128 bit encryption or unzipping does not produce any heat on Xperia XZ premium, overall it is very cool phone.
My phone does heat when playing games like Shadowgun Legend and Modern Combat 5 but I didn't notice any throttling.
Mine was hot while i was filming 4k in a 34 degrees outside in the sun.
i simply solved it by dipping the phone in the pool voor 10seconds and it was fine again. made nice videos

Question Should I get the phone cooler for the Red Magic 6.

While playing games my Red Magic 6 phone does get quite warm even with the built in fan. Is the Dual Core Cooler or Pro Ice Dock for the Red Magic 6 worth buying to keep the temps down.
While playing games like Genshin Impact temps can reach somewhere around 37°C to around 40°C on medium settings (or 48°C when playing at max settings)
The typical normal CPU temperatures with mobile devices range between 30 to 35 °C continuous browsing considering the ambient temperature around is close to 27 to 30 °C. When it comes to heavy gaming the temperatures soar at 40 to 44 °C.
Take note that a high CPU temperature is not caused by the CPU itself. Games generally do not put pressure on CPU, but on the GPU. The GPU usage for the 3D HD games are generally very high, and can cause such temperature increase. So yes, that kind of 'GPU' temperature is normal while gaming

Hi there,
May i reconfirm again which temperature is the most concerned part for a gaming smartphone? Is it its cpu or the battery?
I experienced quite frequently overheat issue as cpu temperature could reach 50°c while the battery boost up till 45°c and it boasting rapidly until you can feel the stress when you are gaming in warm surrounding.
Attached is my reference using cpu/gpu meter notification app

I can only measure the battery temperature on this phone. And it reports that the temps rise from 35°C to 47°C - 50°C. Right now I haven't played anything so temps are really low, but this is the only way I can measure it.
