Mine has not yet heated at all! I have used Zarchiver to zip and unzip, several large games (modern combat 5, order and chaos 2 etc). Even in direct sunlight, the phone only became luke warm!
same story...this phone remains cold. in every condition.
for me it it the coolest phone i have ever had
I live in a tropical country, so the ambient temp is high most of the time. Despite that, my phone only gets really warm, but not too hot. Very impressed with the thermal management on this phone.
I just got back from Mexico. Jumped in the pool and didn't realize I left my phone sitting in the sun. According to GSam Battery Monitor, the temperature of my battery was at 50 degree Celsius and it was only luke warm to the touch. Very impressed. I was scared for my battery tho lol
i play Clash of Clans on my XZP and see the temps getting as high as 106 degrees. It's pretty warm in the back. Not sure how anyone is really able to say theirs is "cool" all the time.
PC is not cool when playing games. Why would be XPERIA XZ Premium cool when playing games?

Because its cpu's tdp is under 5 watts with the integrated gpu while a pc's cpu could easily go over 100 and have additional gpu and other heat inducing components around?
Don't get me wrong, many phones get hot during intensive gaming and that's not a huge minus considering they don't have cooling. Sony's done good job with it and it's on par with other flagships with sd 835 considering it's a pretty efficient chipset. It's just that the comparison you made was out of place.
Mine does get warm sometimes, but that's it. Just warm.
My old G3 used to get really hot near the Power/Volume buttons when gaming or running VR apps.
It's the kind of hot where you notice it, but it doesn't really bother you. Unlike my G3 where I had to move my fingers away from that area.
More importantly, it hasn't stopped an app or lowered the brightness due to heat yet.
Omg 50.7 dc
My phone can get hot doing VR stuff, but otherwise it seems near impossible to get it hot unless it's a very hot day and I'm out in the sun.
Then it's possible to get the camera app to warn about heat, although this has never actually progressed on to the point where the camera shuts down. Not like my Z3 where 10 minutes of photo taking and that was your lot.
The phone is amazing, I manage to record 4k videos more then 30 min and phone didnt need to turn off cus of heat, like on Z5P.

Never had this phone overheat. Even when video calling over 4G.
pretty cool always, can get warm but only warm
in love with it, snapdragon 835 does the trick to prevent overheating.
although when viewing 4k content or in 4k mod it does get hot, but hey which device wouldnt showing 4k? im impressed
i live in Jakarta,Indonesia and my XZP only gets hot when the signal is weak.other than that the device is around 30 celcius to 37 celcius.
Well to add to this conversation , Got this phone and regarding heating it heats for sure in some situations, but not as much as Z3 dual in same situations (my previous phone) and I am not worry about heating as Z3 dual heats a lot when playing pokemon go on sunny days during summer and never had heat warring except playing same game in background while recorded HD video of car crash in front of me, that is only when I got heat warning on Z3. On XZ premium same situation I could feel some higher temperature in hand, but not even close to Z3 , and another worst situation is game pokemon go and mass evolving in game (who knows what is it) it brings Z3 to very high temp, while XZ premium gets up to with temp enough to be able to feel it. Zip large files with password 128 bit encryption or unzipping does not produce any heat on Xperia XZ premium, overall it is very cool phone.
My phone does heat when playing games like Shadowgun Legend and Modern Combat 5 but I didn't notice any throttling.
Mine was hot while i was filming 4k in a 34 degrees outside in the sun.
i simply solved it by dipping the phone in the pool voor 10seconds and it was fine again. made nice videos

Can get hot if using Quick Charge and playing a game at the same time, with the hottest point being the back near the cloud logo. It's noticeably hot, but doesn't seem any more so than other phones.
Getting quite hot for me during general use. On occasion barely doing that much as well. I think the CPU could do with some custom kernel love to try some undervolting and governor tweaking to help.
I think it might have to do with the fingerprint sensor. Mine gets hot with screen time.
My Robin used to get hot but not much anymore with the newer updates.
Mine gets really hot when playing Pokémon go, but I think it's because of being a bad optimized app.
My Robin gets hot no matter what ROM I am using. I have tried stock, AOSPA, Lineage and Omni. I emailed Nextbit customer support about this issue when I first got my Robin (when they still did email support). I went through the battery tests they suggested (FCQ (*#*#6721#*#* on the stock ROM) and Ampere) and provided them with screenshots. They stated that the temps I was showing in the screenshots of the battery tests I performed were 'normal' for the device.
I have found that the Robin is really sensitive to the temperature of the environment that it is in. On hot days, under mild use, the device gets very hot (like battery temps around 110-116 F).
At this point, it is what it is. I think that the excessive heat is a combination of a processor that is known to run a bit hot, combined with the materials that the phone is made of.
I had it to film a concert (sound is ruined on any videos, pictures ok..ish) But the thing, it was incredible hot, i had to stop using it during the concert and it felt like it burned a hole in my pocket for a bit after i turned it off, and it also gets reallly hot around the fingerprint sensor, and the display itself was like a pocket warmer.
Might been cause i used a Thick and robost phone case, cause i am afraid i break it anytime i put in my pocket....
Send it back to amazon and got my money back now. (Bought it just when it dropped to 100$, now its gone from amazon.de.. lol)
I use mine as a coffee maker
when using wifi/4g in my house, i watched video, browsed fb and even shared internet and all. below i'll give my observations:
in wifi:
watching video, fb and browsing, whatsappin: the phone get very very slightly warm like not warm just the bit different from the phones usual temp like it hovers around 33-34.
when gaming in wifi it goes arounf 36-39 (NOVA 3) battery never crossed 31..
4g in my house, battery arounf 32-33, temperature around 37-39 for all.
but when i step out of my house, like when i'm operating my mobile in train/bus and the ambient temperature varies from say 28-32, my phone gets considerably hot and today, i was travelling in Bus and the ambient temp was around 35 and i was just browsing , watching videos and fb, my phone became hot like it even would have touched 43-46! i felt it hot to touch, is this norma(it's making me extremely paranoid)l!!??? if this is the case what happens if it's summer here, the phone would become blazingly hot, coz in summer ambient temp would be around 36-44 and all!!
Is this normala or am i unlucky for the second time ? I'm getting paranoid!
Just hit them back up

Are you serious.... When the ambient temp is 35 degree what else would you expect... Every phone on the planet will get that temperature. Can't believe you had a phone returned for this. You know the front of the device is black and absorbs light... When the sun hits your phone it's gonna heat up also. This phone is the best Android phone when it comes to thermal throttling.

With heavy multitasking, I hit 60+. Not regularly, but it has happened. The temperatures you're hitting are normal for me. I've had zero issues with the device. I have an OtterBox case, so I don't feel the heat as much. Honestly, I barely even notice heat at those temperatures. Considering the fact that the body of the device is aluminum, it's going to easily get hot to the touch.
Also, my One would almost always run between 45-70, and I've had that since launch. Used it heavily daily for years, and I still use it regularly as an app development device. No issues.
These devices have extremely powerful processors. They get hot. There's not an easy, efficient, way to cool a processor in a device like this yet, but they're designed for heavy use, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi first of all thanks for the reply.. I'll tell you what really made me paranoid.. Every evening I travel in bus and train and the ambient temperature would be from27-28_29.. I use 4g jio.. I just browsw/fb/insta.. In minutes my phone near the earpiece on the screen gets warmed up and it'd go around 40-41. Then I lock it it cools down fast but when I unlock it in seconds again starts warming up... My friend using same 4g in moto g4plus but his screen is cooler than mine... Please my one last doubt...
This is nothing lol. I live in Scotland so just now ambient temperature range from 5-13 °c and in my house 21-23°c and my Z3+ hits 60-70°c easily on heavy use. Benchmarked it one day and hit 90°c. The joys of the 810 chipset. Anyway away to upgrade to the OP3T so i should see and feel a massive difference.

Install a custom ROM and kernel and limit your background tasks. You may just have a bunch of things running using your CPU.
Thank you all!
Hey all thank you guys very much for replying to my thread! i'm really feeling okay instead of getting paranoid with my phone.. although i'd be very happy if you guys just clear me this last doubt!
today I was playing NOVA 3 connected to wifi in an ambient temperature of 25C, 5-10mins into gaming, CPU reaCHED A MAX OF 41c and at around 20 it maintaining at 43 but jumping sometimes 45.. this is gaming, but i get the same temperature just browsing in knda same ambient temp while I'm travelling. and also browsing in wifi/4g(fb,insta,chrome) in my house in ambient 25-27 gets the phone phone to 35-37... and the rest of the pat of the mobile is cool, even the back side is normal, only the small portion between the earpiece..
why is this happening? is this normal(it'd be great if you guys clear this)? if yup y so? and why phones like oneplus x and moto g4 etc have relatively less temp than OP3..
I know it'd be irritating to answer kinda same question again, but this would my help paranoiac freaking out for my mobile will go down..
thanks in advance for your replies

Because the Oneplus 3 is a lot faster, the Temps you are giving are n even close to hot... This has been one of the cooler phones so far.
Like others said, those temps are completely normal. Hell, I'd even expect them to be higher with your fairly high ambient temps.
About comparison with other phones - it all depends on internals and design. OP3 is made of aluminum so it'll dissipate more heat into the case - you'll feel it better. Other mentioned phones are plastic, so they'll contain more heat inside (you'll not feel so much heat, but the cpu may even run hotter).
And OP3 has cpu located just below the camera, so it's normal that it reaches top temps in that upper center part of the device.
P.S.: You talked about loads and ambient temps, but didn't mention screen brightness - that also plays a massive role in running temperatures.

Just get a case and maybe a screen protector so that you can't feel it getting hot.

hey ya !! sorry to disturb you again and again.. just a urios doubt.. what'd be the temperature of the phone or how hot can it gets, when u use 4g and fb app in ambient temperature of 29C and 33C..
mine got arounf 38-41 for the 1st cse and around 43 for the second case..
I know i'm being paranoid, ,but please, clearing tis would help stop worrying a bit
All the temps you posted are normal
About Moto g, it has much weaker SoC. A Ferrari's engine gets much more hotter than a toy car. Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with Ferrari
4G /3G active usage can get hotter than gaming. That's also normal

Nothing much to worry here. Even I use Jio all the time. My OP3 get a lot hotter than any other device I use before. Reasons I knew are these.
1. OP3 rock with a high end processor. Say SD 820. Other phones you mentioned are consisting of relatively lower end processor. So internally they might heat up more that OP3 while doing high processor intensive tasks, but the plastic casing keep the heat inside, as OP3 is made up of Aluminum that being a metal heats up so quickly and and u feel more hotter in hands than the other ones and also it cools faster.
2. AFAIK the processor is situated just below the Camera bump. Hence it heats up very quickly at that area. Irrespective of outside temperature.
3.While using 4G network it's obvious that the phonehave to communicate with the network at a very high rate than 2G or WiFi. So it's clear that it will heat up. Also using high processor intensive application like Facebook gives the processor high stress and it heats up in no time.
Remedies
1. Use a case. That somewhat helps in insulating the heat.
2.If possible use WiFi rather than 4G network. That will considerably helps your battery life.
Conclusion.
Don't worry about the warmth of the phone. Its normal. Just enjoy using the phone.
Never Settle.
Cheers.
Clearly never experienced a SD810 device. I'm sure Snapdragon took there name too seriously with that chipset. I could hit HIGH 80°c in seconds playing basic games, using the camera and under heavy usage. Had to tailer my use around my Z3+ but now I have the 3T I can do what I want and it never goes past 50°c so far.
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Heats up very quickly through normal use and ambient weather temperature, struggles to lose the temperature then begins to lag.
Same here, even with Marshmallow and Nougat during normal use. Actually with Oreo seems no problem
it has been the same when ambient temperature is high the phone simply cant handle the heat and u can have marshmalow or oreo no mather what it wont help...phone starts to lag to a point when u have to turn it off for few mins and the use it again...it has beeen like this since xperia z3+/4 and z5 with SD810 under the hood...Sony is very bad at reducing heat in there devices...i compared other devices with same chipset and even if they get warm or hot they still work like they should...why Sony offers us a highend phone with lowend capabilities...i remember the perfomance of my xperia z2...4k recording up to 1 hour no problem ,i could play games more then hour and the phone got warm sometimes even hot to touch but it worked with no LAGS....and last one most anoying is the screen input touch ,just go ahead and compare every phone u can with xperia and ull notice the lag in the screen input...so bad from Sony also XZ is probably my last xperia and i had Z,Z2,Z5 they were good but the competition is far better.and last one Xperia phones should sell for winter gadgets, couse u can warm up ur hands if u need to LOL...cheers guys
My phone stopped recording 4K video after 2 minutes with error messages about heat. Had to close camera app for 5 mintues to be able to record another 1 minute. Completely hopeless phone.
I tried to play heavy games like Asphalt 8, PUBGM and Mobile Legends, It reaches like 50-60 degree celsius to the point where I can't even hold the phone. When recording only in 720p / 1080p, it warns me that the phone is overheating and disables some of the functionality and the room temperature is at 15-18 degree celcius

I wasted my money buyiny this crap. I can't ever use the camera due to overheat & it shuts down. Thanks to a G-camera 5.0 version that works withouy camera 2 api enabled. So anyone can use that without adb or flash. That's 5.0 version G-camera saved me. Else I would have never able to use Camera itself in my phone. But apps & games? Omg. I have become a optimization expert using this phone. Through choosing apps among many for the same category of Functionality. Bcz everything lags due to a small 3GB ram. Only marshmallow did it lagged. But since Android 7 lag & heat has become a part of this device. So now others ask me apps for a cetrgory which is most optimized & I suggest them. ? ?

its not lag because 3gb ram, its thermal throttling. known issue with Sony camera app is all clocks max out.
I got my XZ2 Compact and I noticed that the phone will get quite warm if I watch YouTube or play some games. Battery and CPU temperature are both about 42°C in maximum. Is this normal or does my phone has some problems? What temperatures do you have?
Doesn't seem crazy hot, but it's probably best to not let the phone sit at that temperature for too long.
Yeah. It's quite hot weather now where I live (Over 30 Celsius) so it might be one reason.
Hopefully there is nothing wrong on my phone. I am interested to hear other users temperatures.
Hi,
There's no problems with these temperatures, especially when playing games, there's nothing less than the most powerful portable CPU of the year in this phone.
Looking at my temps, I never get under 25°C but I already reached up to 50°C when playing a very heavy games on a hot summer day.
Is there any throttling on your CPU?

Even during intense benchmarking, it didn't heat up. You could feel a little warmth near the top of the back, but barely. No actual heat.
The phone heats up under these conditions: (Slow) wireless charging, downloading over LTE for an extended period, and playing games. For everything else it's comparable, yet, slightly warmer than my Note. The sensors report low 30s, whereas S10 is showing low 40s under the same apps.
My device feel kinda warm...no extensive gaming or something like that, after playing a bit and made antutu test, antutu reported that my cpu had 63 °C ..and 250k points.
If it feels warm do you have your brightness all the way up and max brightness? Also using it without a case? Think of how thin the device is and how good and bright the screen is heat is coming from screen you can feel when grabbing without case.
Getting hot while gaming
Playing Mobile Legends on High settings (Graphics - High, High Quality Display - On, High framerate mode - On, WQHD+) and the phone gets hot with just 1 game (approx. 15 minutes). Playing another game immediately results to less smooth gameplay. Not expecting this because we're supposed to have cooling

No, have a quick trip to your kitchen and think about all the ceramic tools you have, and why they are made of ceramic.
Ceramic can be both used in thermal isolation and dissipation, 90% of the time it is used to isolate, since it has to be processed specifically to do the opposite.
That's the price you have to pay for having the ceramic version, the back fails to lose temperature just like the average coffee can, it's not a big deal unless you run intensive tasks every day.
I am running an Exynos 512GB Cermaic Black S10 Plus. Even without any usage and phone left in idle mode.. CPU Monitor is showing the temperature as 38-40 degrees. My friends 128GB Prism White is always around 32 degrees. Even my Exynos Note 9 is around the same ball park. So I'm little worried about my nee S10 Plus. Ideally is shouldn't touch 40 degrees that too in idle mode right?

My average temp is 90°F (32°C)
The hottest I have gotten this phone to go is 108.5°F (42.5°C) when I transferred my old SD card contents directly onto my phone's internal storage. I transferred about 60GB of data that took about 15 minutes max using Samsung's T5 external SSD connected directly to my phone. So not only was I transferring a lot of files but I was also powering an external device via USB. Gotta say, I am impressed at how well it performed.
