Gaming performance? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I'm about to get myself an LG G7, and my primary concern is the gaming performance. I'm a big gamer and it looks like the performance on the G7 is lacking.
Has this been fixed? I'll be getting the T-Mobile variant.
For reference, I had an S9 Plus and dolphin ran fullspeed, but the videos I watched show the performance is just like my Pixel (1st Gen) which is bad, and with Android native games the performance is much worse compared to other Snapdragon 845 devices.
Has there been a reason for this that is user fixable?

I have a LG G7 and play PubG mobile. Runs really good. No issues at all.

Is it really so bad as presented on videos above?

I doubt it, no review found this, could be he has thick cases and lots of services running in the background.

yes it is that bad i can confirm.

On dolphin emulator i've tested new super mario brothers and resident evil 4 on galaxy s9 with snapdragon 845 and on lg g7 with the same snapdragon 845, there was a huge difference, in resident evil 4 i got steady 30fps on s9 and around 15~20 on g7, on new super mario brothers i got a lot of slowdowns on g7 and a great perfomance without slowdowns on s9.

LG G3 Games Lag

I had bought Rayman Fiesta Run on my old LG Optimus G and wanted to play it once again on my new LG G3. Unfortunately, the Google Play store says that Rayman Fiesta Run is not compatible with the LG G3 (actually, a lot of apps & games are not compatible, super weird). Anyways, I side-loaded Rayman from my account and started to play the game. It looks 100 times better on the LG G3 because of the screen size but the game kind of slows down and is not fast. The game is suppose to be a fast game but I see that the game slows down a lot through out the levels. Has anybody else encountered this?
It is playable but its weird because my old phone doesnt slow down at all. Is there anyway to make the game go smoother, like adjusting the phone's cores or something like that? Just to make the gameplay smoother

I really wanted to try out the Rayman series on the G3 because what you described was happening on the LG G Tab I ultimately returned for other reasons as well.
Guess I will wait for replies but that is disappointing to read.
Is this the only game you notice that this happens? Every other one I have tried has run great.

Yes, because Rayman Jungle Run doesn't slow down at all, it plays really good. Rayman Fiesta Run does slow down throughout the whole level, at the beginning is fine but it will slowly lag a little

I paid for it any cannot play it now. How does one get around that with the G3? You stated you sideloaded from your account but I do not know how to do that unfortunately.
Well been acting strange on my first 2 devices haven't tried on my third device. I give up I think. I've owned this for around a month now and car phone warehouse said I can return for refund so that's what I'll do as I am a gamer and although the phone is amazing some experiences arent :/

I have sent Ubisoft an email requesting they update their listing play store listing (it is likely all they need to do is tick a new box to support the resolution of the G3).
Perhaps you should do the same, [email protected]
Would it be possible anyone could test Marvel Avengers Alliance, real racing and dead trigger 3?
They work perfect on my at&t Optimus g.

[Q] Is the 8.4" still good for gaming?

Looking to get my son a used Android tablet off swappa for gaming and entertainment. Is this tablet still up to par for running the latest games without lag? He plays a lot of Pixel Gun 3D and Jurassic World at the moment. Thanks for any advice. Trying to keep my kids from stealing my NVidia Sheild K1...

I would recommend the LG GPAD 3 or GPAD X. Better specs and display. It will be better for gaming. No root or even unlocked bootloader though. I returned this tablet. It's a bit laggy and display is pretty low quality.

it is still good for games i play every new game no lag on custom rom ,needed new battery i would invest so much in another tablet just for games unless it`s ipad in fall
unless u have money for a 3gb ram tablet like samsung tab S3 ,your limitations will be the ram these days the games takes a lot of ram it`s 64bit cpu though besides that play store from 2018 will be 64 bit apps exclusive like ios so need minimum 3gb ram in future good luck

Zuk z2 a beast or imbecile

Recently I had speed test with my friend's Redmi note 4 and unexpectedly I lost against him in single pubg opening time by a margin of 10 seconds.
I was on pie sGSI ( I know that it lags but I thought that sd820 is enough powerful to beat sd 625 on any crappy software.)
This blown my mind and raised many questions.
1.how much does a software optimization is important in Android smartphones ??
2.software vs hardware which is more important ??
3.stock rom vs custom rom. Is it really beneficial to use custom ROMs ??
4.latest Android or stable 2 yrs old Android which is preferable ??
5.which is your favourite combination of rom for your zuk in performance ( here performance means without compromising heating and excessive battery drain) ??
6.how is stock Chinese zui ??
Please Reply With detailed experience.
Thanks.
Lol, I have been saying the same but fanbois will remain fanbois. SD820 is garbage. I have Zuk2 and LG V20 both SD 820 but can't play PUBG smoothly on either. I play with my cousin beside me with Redmi Note 4 and his runs smoother on lowest settings. SD820 has better GPU so you can play at higher settings but same choppy gameplay. So SD820 owners are outsmarted by both cheap Redmi and flagship OP6 players. lol
Edit: I also discussed this with a senior engg at Qualcomm but he said it's not hardware it's software issue, but I have tried all kinds of ROMs and kernels. With new gen of processors being released by Qualcomm I think they will do the same with current generation of flagship devices.

Who said SD820 is garbage......it's was the best SOC of the Qualcomm....in 2016
625 no match for 820's performance
625 is cheaper one
For best experience use Oxygen OS ports and best stable builds
It's not that hardware fault, it's abt software that no optimized OS is availbale for ZuK right now
Best to me is
Oxygen 5.0.4 (has bugs)

Another one. lol
Who said sd 820 is better than 625?
In terms of GPU, single core performance, yes.but sd625 having higher multicore performance ie 4200+ comared with the sd820's 3800+ which makes sd625 around 10% better in terms of CPU performance ( since most games/apps use multicore )
Pubg is a CPU intensive game rather than a GPU ( for eg asphalt 9) So it will perform better on sd625.
But 3800+ multicore score is enough for the phone to run Pubg. Our main enemy is heat. 5.5 inch rn4 having considerably larger surface area than our 5" zuk, convective heat transfer is good in rn4, so CPU won't be throttled. For normal use rn4 is better.
But where z2 shines is with it's GPU demanding apps ( compute score of 820 is more than double of sd625)
+ Xiaomi's ROMs are more optimised than zuk's stock/ custom roms

Thanks for the explanation.
I thought that Qualcomm's ****ty 4 kryo cores are enough to beat 8 a53 cores.
Because of sd 820 all I can see is HD or High graphics options in games and you can't play it because of heating and battery consumption.
So sd 820 is a mid ranger now:laugh:
If you can balance out the cpu thermal throttling issue, then the sd820 beats out the sd625 in GPU demanding games like PUBGM, Asphalt 9. The sd625 will never come close to being able to run those 2 games on high settings. The sd625 on the other hand, have very consistent performance and basically never throttle
I personally would have chosen a sd625 device, but the prices of sd820 devices now is almost same as sd625 devices, so their performance being close is nothing special. sd820 is just a less crappy sd810, and I still remember saying sd820 is bad on this forum and have ppl told me Im crazy
LMAO
Hahaha, i can't do anything but laugh at this post. PUBG is highly unstable and poorly optimized, not only on mobile but also on PC. It's a game in open beta. Try playing a better game. I've been playing world of tanks for almost 3 years now. World of tanks was pretty unstable when i started playing it, but now its super stable and zuk z2 runs it on 1080p 60fps without breaking a sweat, even at high graphics (i play on medium to save battery). And all my friends who play on SD400+ or SD600+ struggle to play even on low graphics and can hardly cross 40 fps. So, pubg is not a standard to measure device performance. Plus, why the hell are you running Android P. Try a stable non-treble oreo ROM (like nitrogen OS or dotOS 2.3.1 or cardinal-AOSP) and you will feel the difference. Using a custom ROM doesn't mean that you can always stay on latest firmware and you will get outstanding performance. Custom ROM means that you can find yourself a perfect combination of ROM, kernel and tweaks that suits your demands. For example, until July i was using miju12's citrus 3.5 based on nougat(September 2017 build), because oreo ROMs were not good enough. Still, I don't use treble enabled ROMs or Android P GSIs because simply, they're not stable enough and they don't utilize the full potential of SD820. Also, software benchmarks can't tell you real world performance (ex, citrus 3.5 doesn't have the best benchmark scores, but it was the best nougat ROM for 3D gaming).
Conclusion: Staying on latest software doesn't mean you will get best performance. Even Google is not sure if Treble and Android P GSI system will succeed or not. The goal of treble tech is to update all oreo devices to Pie by the end of 2018. If doesn't happen, treble and pie are a failure.
PS: I also play PUBG. Using Nitrogen OS. Disable battery optimization. Play on smooth/balanced graphics and medium/ high fps. On HD, there's too much heating and the CPU will throttle. Due to glass body and small size, z2 has poor heat dissipation. If you know how to tweak your device, its no problem playing PUBG. Better game loading time on RN4 is due to utilization of newer memory channels. But, i know that on balanced and HD graphics, RN4 can't hit even 10 fps.
There are some limitations in design of z2, but remember that its cheaper than RN4 and is better in every aspect.

And I agree with everything you said.
The performance you get on emulators on 625 is laughable compared to what you get on 820. I don't ever these guys are on about; 625 doesn't stand a chance against 820
as someone who had sd820 and sd625, my conclusion is sd625 is battery optimized with balanced performance, suitable for long term use. while sd820 excel in performance, it depends on the termal & kernel setting, cause sd820 heat a lot when used heavily (gaming or video processing), if by any chance zuk z2 had a better cooling system (like the new liquid cooling system) i think it could easily beat sd625. what make sd820 nor fully optimized was it heat, then the thermal config tried to cool it, which disturb the hardware performance.
simply said, sd820 can reach the top of the wall, but can't hang on too long. while sd625 can only reach half of the wall, but it can hang in to it as long as it want. in a battle of endurance, i would pick sd625
There's a reason for SD820 being a flagship series SoC and SD625 being a mid-range SoC. All this debate for a trash game like PUBG, lmao. If the kryo cores on 820 are inferior to a53 cores on 625, why is qualcomm using it in SD660, the latest in 600+ series. Anyways, I'm more than happy that i bought z2 over any 600 series phone. Good luck with your SD625, noobs. Again, I can't stop laughing...

You do realize that you're on the z2+ forum, where most ppl is using it right?
The phone & SoC has flaws, no one can deny that. It just happen to suit your use case, doesn't mean it does so for everyone
It's better to buy a new device rather than complaining like kids. A chipset that was designed in 2015 and still outperforms most of the other chipsets. Zuk provided a flagship chipset in a low end price range. Still, you people are complaining. LMAO, thats why i call you all noobs. The return of investment on zuk z2 is above 200%. Get your facts right, kids.
The back glass panel of z2 can be easily removed. Remove it and play a game of PUBG on HD and high fps. It runs smooth af. There's a metal back panel for z2 on AliExpress. Replace the glass one with it. It will increase heat dissipation and in turn, increase performance.

Lol for u bro
I guess ur one crazy redmi note 4 fanboi or maybe not
But anyways
My z2 every time wins against my friends redmi note 4 in terms of pubg that to I play on 1080p med settings, his on low settings
As ppl earlier said pubg is not well optimised
U say u have tried all ROMs
Having big appload or not letting the ROM to settle or frequently changing roms and some impatience leads to these kinds of moronic conclusions
I guess u haven't tried ROMs like OOS miui cardinal nitrogen
Not to exclude jaguar bootleggers
Even on zui it better than redmi note 4
Except rros old builds coz their speeds aren't that good
As far as sd820 is concerned
My god bro u haven't heard of op3t phone I guess
I played on 1080p high settings no lag whatsoever
It even crushes zuk z2

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy A20 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy A20 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No. It is not fast. Not At all. Even when comparing it to cheaper sub $100 phones,it is incredibly slow.
It takes a lot of time to launch basic apps even with all animations turned off to the minimum. Scrolling through menus is a nightmare. The biggest offence is game load times. You will always be the last to load to 100% in multiplayer games (Call of Duty Mobile, Mobile Legends, Darkness Rises). Note that the phone can't handle those games on Medium settings smoothly without stutters everywhere. It's geekbench scores and antutu scores are useless and not indicative of real life use.
Phones at its price point blow it out of water since they come with Snapdragon SOCs like 675. Cheaper phones come with the MTK helio P70 and are still faster. Even cheaper phones with the MTK A22 and P22 are way faster in basic app launch times.

I know what I am talking about. The Samsung A10S with the Mediatek Helio P22 is way faster than the Samsung A20. I have used both phones regularly and there is a big difference.
Any Chinese model phone around the $100 dollar mark is faster than Samsung A20 as long as its from 2017 and later. I am talking Infinix, Tecno, Oppo, Huawei blah blah.

I´ve been playing PUBG in medium to high settings and have a good experience.
Well you can play pubg or whatever even if I kind of suspect being able to play pubg even on medium settings on this device.. even YouTube hangs for over 10 seconds sometimes before opening because of built in bloatwares and other apps notifications..
but the point is, this cheap phone got no decent speed compared to other phones of the same price, but i Personally I blame the oneui and the Samsung's bloated version of android

What's with the accusatory question! He states the truth! The soc that runs the A20 is not able to handle One UI and it's bloat.
The phone is very slow compared to cheaper phones with weaker specs but run on roms that are close to stock android.
Hell,I recently used a Samsung Duos with Touchwiz (older than OneUI and GraceUI) and that very old and cheap phone flies through menus. A phone that was being sold for $70 five years ago is faster than my 1 year old Samsung A20!
If Samsung was offering refunds,I would have taken the offer.
Everytime, I click on the Settings icon and it takes over 3 seconds to open, I die a little inside! Everytime the phone takes 1 second to register touches in the Settings menu,I die a little more.
The last time I experienced such slowness was during the time prior to Android 4.2(Jellybean) where phones had 256MB RAM!

The A20 can barely maintain 30 frames per second on the lowest Settings on most games! 30fps is the bare minimum! At lower frames, games are no longer smooth and are choppy. Frames per second (fps) also impact gameplay especially in fast paced games like First person shooters (COD Mobile, Pubg etc)
I have personally tested COD Mobile and Pubg! The A20 cannot maintain 30fps on the lowest settings at 17°C room temperature! Even the first 5 minutes, the game occasionally drops to 20fps! After 15 minutes, temperatures hit 42°C and the SOC heavily thermal throttles! The frames per second take a hit and drop to mid 20's to high 10's.
So don't lie about it being able to run games at medium to high settings! It can't! Or rather, it can at below 20fps! At that point, the game looks like a slideshow. Anything below 30fps is unplayable. For first person shooters, anything below 60fps is not optimal!
The A20 has never been able to hit 60fps on any game that I have played that isn't 2D.
Do it yourself. Install the official Samsung GamePlugins app from the GalaxyStore. Then enable the Performance monitor. It will enable you to see your frames per second and temperatures while in game.
I have noticed that most people can't tell when their games are running below 30fps because they are used to low end stuff.
I have not any problem.

My point us why buy a budget phone from Samsung and expect "a rocket phone"? Its a budget phone and if you feel is slow just go for something else.

You are a moron.
All Samsung A20s use the same SOC. The exynos 7885 also known as the 7884b.
The GPU is what games btw. Not the CPU. It's the Mali gpu component that plays games. And it is slow and crappy. Mali GPUs are mainly designed by ARM not Samsung unlike the CPUs where Samsung cuatomizes stock ARM cores and actively makes them worse.
And no, you don't game with zero problems. Gaming at less than 30fps isn't unproblematic. It's literally and figuratively unplayable. Samsung has provided a game plugin to show the fps on games. Why don't you install it and bring evidence over here that you are getting over 25fps on Pubg Medium settings after 5 minutes of gameplay!?
And I'll not f off unless Samsung refunds me. I don't understand why you are shilling and fanboyin for Samsung. They made a bad phone. You and I bought it. Don't defend your purchase. Stop with the buyers remorse. Your A20 is weaker than $70 phones from 3 years ago. The SamsungA10S running on an almost decade old Mediatek Helio p20 is faster than the A20: I have personally tested that.
Don't lie on a review page. Tell the truth. Let people get better phones. After all, there are numerous videos on YouTube showing what I am talking about. Simply being rude and being a fanboy won't make your phone any less slower.
PS.
Have you ever used a non Samsung budget phone? It seems like you have never used one! They are all infinitely faster than the A20! I am talking about the Xiaomi 8, 8A , note 8/9, Huawei y7/y6, Infinix Hot/Note 9, Tecno Camon etc. They are all faster. When I bought the A20, I expected it to perform at per or even better than my 4 year old Infinix Note 5. It is slower! Why! Wtf!

I'm not a fanboy of Samsung, maybe from Motorola. Just leave people buy what they can afford. And don´t be so apocaliptic.
I'm talking about the A20, not the A20s that is worst than the A20. Talking about the Benchmark, A20 is better than A30 and A20s, and A10. A10 is really a nightmare.
A20 isn´the best midrange but nether de worst.

I am also not talking about the A20S. I am talking about all the Samsung A20 phones, in plural , A20s. Small s to denote plural. I should have added an apostrophe si as it would show up as A20s'. Either way, my point stands. They all run the exynos 7885/7884b and are slow af. The benchmarks do not reflect onto the real world use.
I am talking about the even cheaper A10S with the very old Mediatek helio p22. The A10s is noticeably faster than the A20. It is faster in menus and responds faster to input touches.
The exynos 7885/7884b on the A20 is bad. It has a higher antutu and geekbenchmark but performs worse than the very weak mtk p22 in real life.

Must be in your region. Here The A20 is better than de A30 and both are better than the A10.
I'm not answering anymore to this thread.
Kisses in the buttcheek.
Not a flagship, it should do basic tasks pretty well though

Question Is S22 powerful enough to play dosbox games?

And I mean games like Duke Nukem 3d smoothly. I have an S7, and the only reasons I would update are the 120hz screen, the bigger screen, and being able to play games like this smoothly. With the S7, the FPS become unplayable in some places, while decent in others, it's not responsive enough overall.
There is a port but it sucks, I want to play from dosbox. Anyone by any chance has tried it?
Also, on paper, is the S22 much more powerful compared to S7 to assume it will work?
Idk but it lagged hard for me with most games. Here you can see s10e snapdragon 60fps stable, no lag. S22 exynos 35-45 fps unstable af lagging hard on modern ops 2. Also see CPU and Temperature. I'm back to the s10e !

Wow, so modern phones are worse? amazing.
It absolutely blew my mind as well. Going back to the older phone got me even hyped to see everything back working smooth n properly. the s22 seemed totally an experimental device. Not a DD as of now.

I don't game but compared to the dual drive Note 10+ the S22U is a downgrade.
1tb max of overpriced unexpandable storage... the S22U might as well be an iPhone. Android 11/12 were the last straw, dead camel.
Feel the wuv, Sammy... $0.00
As far AS I know, all emulation needs optimization to a specific hardware. Maybe dosbox has to do some code to run well on Exynos 2200 and SD 8 gen 1
Something seems to be busted, at least on Exynos units but I wouldn't be surprised if Snapdragon ones are affected too. But my guess is that this is softare-related.
For example, in SEGA Genesis emulation, games which can be run fine even on low-end chips stutter while the game is in focus. But if you touch the screen or make the status bar/navigation appear, the performance becomes as phenomenal as it should be.
If it's a game that isn't being emulated, though, like Dead Cells, there's no lag.
