errors posted in Recovery Mode help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have had a few errors of missing directories etc after the update to Oreo a few months back.
https://pastebin.com/X7FxunzP
I tried a factory reset via the in-phone options after install to see if that would fix anything, but the errors remain. I am thinking about doing a full flash using Heimdall to just start over completely fresh because I still feel like my Oreo install has been buggy and think it might have to do with residual stuff from before.
Do these errors persist even with a fresh flash? It is weird to me that there is ATT stuff on the device even though it is a Verizon build.
I was also wondering where the best place to download the lastest official Verizon Oreo build is.
Thank you for your time.

[Q] Ll3 update fails no matter what

I have been trying to get my S3 to take the update from LG8 to Ll3, and it fails no matter what I try. I am running totally stock LG8 that I rooted using the toolkit posted in the development section. I don't have any APKs that I altered, but every time I try to flash the update, I get a "status 7" error. I tried it on both internal and external SD using CWM recovery. I tried flashing stock recovery via Odin and then let the phone download it over the air and attempt to install itself, and I even tried running the update in TWRP. Every time I get the same status 7 error.
I am coming from HTC phones and have never had these kinds of issues, so I'm pulling out my hair. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I know it must be something stupid I'm overlooking, but I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find the answer.
Sounds like a bad DL. Just grab it from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743923
Or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Or odin flash LI3- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919919
A lot less stressful
The procedure that myn posted over here is pretty staight forward and foolproof too.
Have you solved your issue yet?
I am getting the status 7 error as well even with Myn's procedure. Others are having the problem. Only thing I can think of is the current image file has changed enough to not allow the update to go through. However, I have not removed or modified any stock apks and backed my whole system up with TB right after rooting so no reason for mine to not work. Binary file should be good since it is working for other S3 users.
It's not a bad download. I have tried downloading it multiple times from several sources, and I get the same status 7 failure every time. It even fails when the phone itself downloads the update and it tries to install with the stock recovery.

I was able to get mine to work using Myn's method. Seems flashing newest CWM recovery did the trick. Was trying to flash via TWRP and didn't think it would matter but apparently it does. Just followed his post and all upgraded without issue.
Back to your issue.....what state is your phone at currently? What recovery is installed and what version are you running? Surely we can get this resolved for you.
what does the log say when it fails? I mean in addition to status 7. If you don't see anything go under advance>show log. it's probably a failure in the checks it does before the flash. Have u modified your build.prop? is your baseband and build both lg8? That log will tell you what's wrong.or as I mentioned above you could follow 1 of my links and avoid tha headache

Lineage Update Installation Issues

As more Lineage OS builds come on line and multiple "nightly" update builds for devices start to appear, one of the issues users may face is the how and why of installing them. The Lineage UPDATER states that it will reboot to the device's recovery to install the update, but that doesn't guarantee anything. If that recovery happens to be, for example, TWRP 3.0.2.0 on an LG v410 tablet, all that might happen is you might find yourself, as I did, staring at a TWRP screen with NOTHING happening. The goal of this thread is to give Lineage users a place to consolidate their experience-based knowledge of how to handle this - other than re-flashing the whole thing -for whatever device(s) they may have.
It will probably be the same as for my L900 with CM13 were I have to download the update, reboot into TWRP and update manually.

Are you able to navigate to the download directory in TWRP?
/data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates
This is far from the worst thing that has ever happened, but WHAT, for instance WOULD be the recoveries that DO allow for automated updates? In my case, I downloaded the new nightly to the root directory my SD Card and let fly, and everything worked, but that seems rather not elegant.

Automated updates work fine for me. It automatically boots onto TWRP, applies the update, and reboots.
Might be a device-specific issue. I am on the OnePlus One, and the same TWRP version (of course made for my device).
I am guessing that perhaps there is an issue reading or writing the recovery script.
Interesting. Sure didn't work for me this a.m. but as I said, far from the end of the world. I also think the "nightly" is going to morph into the "weekly" and that will be fine, too. I have yet to find anything that doesn't work to my satisfaction aside from not automatically picking up my Wi-Fi at boot - not exactly a deal breaker

BTW, are you able to navigate to that directory in TWRP?
Oops. Right after I clicked on send I realized I didn't answer your question!!
Yes, and the zip file is there, but nothing happened. As I said, far from fatal.
I updated my opo (Bacon) with the nightly ota download and most recent twrp, after reboot I had lost my home screen (2 of 3 pages remained) and several of the apps that I had dragged to those screens.. didn't work well for me. I let the ota reboot into twrp and it seemed to proceed without troubles until the opo came back to life. (finished booting)
Galaxy S5 SM-G900T here. Wiped my phone and installed lineage-14.1-20170131-nightly-klte-signed.zip with open_gapps-arm-7.1-stock-20170131 the day it came out and it has been good so far, no crashes or freezes and all apps work good except FolderMount, no biggie. Tried to install lineage-14.1-20170207-nightly-signed.zip and is giving me an "error 7 can't install this package on top of incompatible data". Any way to fix this without factory reset? Doesn't make sense to factory reset every week for an update.
Update: Tried to reflash lineage-14.1-20170131-nightly-klte-signed.zip and got the same error. So something must have changed. The only thing I can think of is I have SU 2.79 installed.
Update 2: Removed root, restored boot and same continues. I dont want to wipe on every update.

Well, now semi-automatic at any rate.
Are you able to navigate to the download directory in TWRP?
/data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates
First, sincere THANKS to jhedfors for this priceless bit of wisdom
Getting better. Still no "automatic update" but the latest "nightly" build did fire up TWRP, and put the update zip file into the aforementioned folder, and after that, installing it was the proverbial snap. I can't speak for everyone, but I would find no horror in the folks at Lineage giving in to reality and calling the "WEEKLY" as opposed to "NIGHTLY" builds.
Hey, since the only device I happen to have running Nougat at the moment also happens to be the OLDEST device I use on a regular basis, the Complaint Department shall remain CLOSED on this one.
I have an LG G3 (d855) with working LineageOS. The updater downloads OK and the zip is indeed in /data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates, but TWRP refuses to do anything about it on reboot. I can browse to the folder manually, but it does feel that something isn't firing to get TWRP to perform the install automatically.
What is the trigger for TWRP to install a specific Zip on reboot?
D
For me, One Plus 3, automatic updates don't work. Also manually installing the latest
https://mirrorbits.lineageos.org/full/oneplus3/20170214/lineage-14.1-20170214-nightly-oneplus3-signed.zip gives me an error:
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
Zip file is corrupt!
Updating partition details...
...done
Any idea?
I did a migration via experimental build coming from cm13 then updated to lineage 14, which worked OK.
But since then I cannot update the daily builds.
I have the "same" issue on a Nexus 6.
The updater tells me I have an update, I ok it to download. Once done, I click install, gets into recovery and stops.
Still in the recovery, if I try to manually install from the downloaded location (data/data/...), it says zip failed.
I reboot and try opening that zip on a PC and sure enough, Windows thinks it is corrupt also.
If I re-download manually from "https://download.lineageos.org/shamu" that copy opens fine on the PC and when moved to the phone (data/data/...) installs fine.
There is something corrupting the zip when the updater does its thing. ;-(
Note: This isn't a migration, I have just been updating "nightlies".
Stuck in the TWRP...
Hi everyone, in trouble :/...I have got an LG d802 and updated TWRP from 2.8.7 to 3.0.2-1, then did a boot/system backup of the current cm 13.0 and after that the "experimental" update (as described in the recent update & builds post on lineageos) from cm 13.0 to lineage 14.1 which worked.
I decided to use lineage updater to go to the latest nightly as described which must have failed (booted in TWRP an did nothing...). When installing the 14.1 nightly manually, TWRP 3.0.2-1 showed two error lines with "unknown command".
Since then I'm stuck in TWRP.
Restore of cm 13.0 backup was not possible with neither TWRP 3.0.2-1 nor 2.8.7, no errors, just wouldn't boot. I can't even find any cm 13 build... to try to back which would be an option of course.
I did wipe the system then, lineage expermental + nightly or just nightly can be installed "successfully" with TWRP 3.0.2-1 and 2.8.7 with no errors there anymore, but also the system won't boot.
Please, please help (and/or redirect me to the right thread), what can I do? Thank you!
First, you can ignore the two errors in TWRP
I've gotten them with each update I've installed, but in my case - an LG v410 tablet - I have successfully, if manually, installed three updates so far, with a few peculiarities. "Automatic" is just a nine-letter word concerning updates at this point. I can live with that.
One - it is going to download it to /data/data in the tablet's storage no matter WHAT I do. I can live with that.
Two - I seem to have to download the update at least two times before the Lineage updater accepts the fact that it is there. I can live with that, too.
Three - a "getting there and almost what I want with no major glitches" Nougat build is much preferred to a KitKat build that LG couldn't give a rat's rear end about supporting, and I can DEFINITELY live with that.
But, back to YOUR problem with being stuck in TWRP. Worst case disaster recovery scenario - ANY chance you have a non-Lineage ROM you can revert to and start over from THERE? Realize what a pain that is going to be, but... When I still had CM 12.1 on it, I once did that out of desperation when nothing else seemed to be able to get it to boot. WHY such a laborious process fixed it I have NO IDEA, but better to have a working mystery than a well understood paperweight.
I ASSUME you have respectable backups of your data, etc.. so that loss of TIME is your major issue ?? Also assume you've wiped the caches, etc..?? You COULD try offloading your data, wiping data, and reloading.
It also seems to take a LONG time to reboot after an update. Can I assume you are at least getting to the Lineage animated LOGO screen or are you hanging in TWRP itself?

I'm hanging in TWRP, also did wipe data before. I found a full 13.0 backup, selected all but Data because of storage space..."successful"...still system won't boot...
(Power Off in TWRP doesn't even work, just reboots, if that is of any help...)...A wild guess...file system issue maybe?
Yikes
As reasonable a guess as any, I suppose. I admit I've never had TWRP refuse to power off if nothing else, no matter how badly I had screwed things up (often spectacularly) elsewhere.
ASSUME you've tried the hold the power button until it shuts off, after which it should have booted to Android when powered on trick. Or, assuming you can do so, pull the battery?
Perhaps your bootloader is the culprit. Can you just re-flash that?
I got stuck in TWRP Recovery Boot-Loop. Already had the issue before with cm14.1 beginning of december. Didn't they fix the bug or is it another one?
For the specs: I got a Nexus 4 - mako.
I did this FIX and it booted up again as it was before: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/fix-recovery-loop-twrp-computer-t2873386
What's now correct update? Download and dirty install manually in TWRP?
Thanks for the post
:good:
I've NEVER encountered that issue so glad to see someone has figured out a more elegant solution. I suspect your CM 14.1 problem is / was device (build for it) specific, as NONE of my CM / Lineage devices has ever done any such thing and they've all been updated several times in the last month.
In every case, however, I 've had to MANUALLY install the update zip file from within TWRP. Far worse things have happened and since I drive a stick shift car anyway, what the problem?

weird thing happend to my pixel xl. it could't update/flash from lower build to 8.1

I've tried to solve this issue over one week now. Just couldn't figure out why it nearly drives me crazy.
It works fine under 7.1.x and 8.0. OTA function works fine under 7.1.x to 8.0. flash to stock image (below 8.1) doesn't show any problem.
1.When I OTA from 8.0 to 8.1,the phone can receive OTA and download and install, it seemed no problem at this procedure. When I clicked restart to complete OTA , it booted to Google with white background and return to boot interface three or four times and get into system, there is still old build there.
2. Flash factory image (8.1), click flash all , the whole procedure seems working properly, when it booted up , screen switched Google image and boot image several times and endend up with a laid down robet and saying NO COMMAND. I've been searching this for days . Have tried as many as method as I can find to flash it to 8.1 . The only result is showing up no command. I v tried sideload OTA.img, the same result . Also tried to switch slot to reflash stock image . Always same result. Keep telling me NO command . I'm so desperated .
The problem I state above only happens when I try to update/flash from lower build to 8.1.
BL unlocked.
Does anyone have the same issue and have solution about it ?
You need to flash whichever factory image you want to both A and B slots with a recent new ADB setup to go backward in versions.
Im guessing youre trying to avoid wiping internal storage and thats why you want to patch with OTA. you might have to bite the bullet and just back everything up and run the latest factory img to get you on the update without issues going forward.
I always recomend when versions change like 7.1.2 to 8.0 to 8.1 to factory reset everything so you dont have to trouble shoot issues later in life.

I was not trying to avoid wipe internal storage , just because flash to stock image failed

Crosshatch Issue With ROMs & TWRP. Strange Occurrences

Ok, So Here's The Deal.. The Thing.. The WTF
So I had an older version of the Scorpion ROM installed and working fine for a while and wanted to change it up. I downloaded the newest TWRP. Both image and installer.zip, newest Magisk and RR 7.
I flashed the latest stock and you know, followed all the proper steps and after I flashed RR 7, it wouldn't boot up. (Not the issue) as others have had the same issue with RR 7. I left a post about that on the RR 7 thread and went about reflashing stock and proceeded to find a different ROM to check out.
No matter what I try to flash: Lineage, Scorpion, RR 7, dotOS the same thing happens... Everything flashes like it should, but then it won't boot, AND THEN every time I boot back to TWRP to try something else the haptic feedback vibration thing on the pixel 3 xl goes banana sandwich crazy and won't shut off until I reboot to fastboot to flashall to start over. LOL
And not only that but when I jump back to TWRP to try to flash something else stored on the phone, it says the storage is empty and there are nothing available in the menu. And I couldn't get a screenshot but there were some errors that have popped up in twrp as well...
Could This Be An Issue WITH TWRP itself? Because it does it with every single ROM I have flashed today. It's very strange. I have never ran into any issues like this when flashing ROMs, Kernals, etc.
I'm lost. Any help would be awesomely appreciated.
UPDATE: It now vibrates constantly in TWRP and when I reflashed to factory it did the corrupt software screen so I gave it a good ole' factory rest and then it was is stuck in a loop at the G while conecting and disconnecting to the USB over and over and over... now back to corrupt software screen.
I guess I'm just going to have to reflash Stock and just leave it.
Update 2: Still Give The Corrupt Software Thing After Performing FlashAll - soooooooooooooooo

Couple of things. Yes there was an issue with v3.2.3-4 TWRP and the vibrator, but that is separate from your boot issues. Go to the dedicated TWRP thread. As for your updates, 1) an FDR just deletes your data and so would not solve your issue. and 2) Guessing you removed the -w switch from the flash-all script or you would not be getting the corrupt software screen. Run the script again with the wipe switch in place, allowing it to wipe your partitions and start over. You've already deleted all your data with the FDR so it won't matter. Best of luck!

So yeah... I just now logged back on and saw your response [I have had notification issues on everything from Reddit to FB since I have had the 3XL]
About the response, I have had the issue with it showing the corrupt software screen a bunch when flashing new stuff. The reason I perform the Factory Slap is because it allows me to enter the menu where I have the option to "Boot from ADB" or whatever it says, sideloading seems to be the only way I can make progress when it starts giving the corrupt error.. The reason I didn't perform the full wipe but I can't remember exactly why now since that was over a month ago.
But I finally got it fixed, and I was going to repost because I had found a way to prevent the vibration thing from happening in TWRP but by the time I got around to posting, the new update had fixed it. Lol

phone is rekt please help im out of ideas

I messed up big time trying to update my march build of nos to the newest june build. i was using the recommend things for the rom of course but when trying to flash gapps i got a error 20 despite having the correct version (ive been doing this for years). So when i noticed i wasnt going to be able to make it work i tried to go back to an older gapps, then an older nos. every time i was getting error 20 even with the march rom and gapps i used originally. so i tried to go to a new rom, switched to their recommended twrp, firmware etc. but no matter what i keep getting a no os installed error now despite not getting any errors from twrp during install. cant figure out how to fix it and i cant find a fashboot rom for the mix 2 anywhere and ive downloaded about 3 sketchy files that were on the mix forum but miflash didnt recognize anything. The only thing here i have never done a thousand times already is the fastboot rom and miflash. If anyone can help it would be great. I think i just need a compatible fastboot rom and whatever it requires to install, and i should be goog to go but i cant find anything and im on day 2 now.
also for the record ive already tried manually mounting system, repairing system within twrp and doing a full wipe of everything. it seems system isnt actually getting written over despite twrp not saying anything.
also my phone was encrypted originally but i did format data multiple times
So it got rekt
