mobile data tile in pull down menu - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Questions & Answers

I got the newest update on my S7 active. The one where they removed the usage manager app. I used that heavily to turn off/on my data since samsung/AT&T decided to now include that in the pull down menu. I decided to use this method to add the tile (https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...ttings-tile-toggle-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/). I have before and it worked. I just got tired of redoing it after every update. This time though, it wouldn't add the MobileData tile. It added the Bluetooth tile fine. I even tried it twice to make sure it wasn't operator error. Is there any other way to easily access that function?

I believe you need root to add the Mobile Data toggle to the notification shade, I tried the SQL method about a year our so ago and that was the reason it was unsuccessful. It really sucks that AT&T did this.
The good news is there are quite a few third-party apps that stand in for Usage Manager in that capacity. I've been using MZ Mobile Data Switch since the update. I just put the icon where my Usage Manager was and use it the same way.

Simulate tap on HTC "network" widget

Hello all,
I'm trying to control the "on/off" state of mobile data via my own application and while I know of APNDroid, I find it unreliable with my HTC Desire using the 2.2 OTA update (unrooted). It works two or three times, but once the screen has been turned off for quite a while, it no longer works.
However, tapping on the widget from HTC always works and so I was wondering if there is a way to simulate the tap on the widget.
For instance, I thought about sending an intent to the widget. But I'm not sure where to start as I have no idea what the name of that intent could be.
Does anyone have any clues as to where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.
Tasker is an excellent app and the latest beta of it now supports turning on and off mobile data using this toggle.
Hello,
I know about Tasker and am currently evaluating it.
It has two different tasks to control the mobile data, one internal (Mobile Data) and one using APNDroid (Mobile Data APN).
The former does not to work at all, while the latter only works until the screen turns off for more than 5 minutes.
Hence the reason why I'm looking for alternatives while waiting for replies on the Tasker groups.
You are saying that the latest beta supports turning on/off "using this toggle". What toggle are you talking about? Is that the HTC widget mobile data toggle?
If yes, how do I control it via Tasker? I did not find anything obvious.
Regards
i use switch pro widget and love it
I use switch pro, but some people claim its an APN renamer which its not (unless you tell it to be in the settings)
However it is possible to control htc's data connection as CM has built it into his modified power control widget (see CM6 roms).
As to the exact modification, I don't know as I have never taken said widget appart to see what he told it to do.
Supposing SwitchPro works ok, which I can not confirm as there is no demo version, how would you control it from Tasker?

[Q] Data connection control app?

Hi, anyone know of an app which will block all APN, always on mobile data - etc etc and only will permit them on demand with some designated applications?
I really want everything off but then when I check my email, or use a map, etc I don't want to have to be dealing with messages which tell me that data is disabled and I then have to go and activate the thing manually - and then remember to switch it off.
I want something which will automatically connect while my email program is running and then disconnect as soon as I shut it down.
I have an idea that JuiceDefender should be able to do this but most of JD doesn't seem to be working with a Desire HD. I have to accept the defaults - which means that a whitelist only starts to operate at battery - 15%.
It won't let me set it higher - although the functionality is meant to be there.
Anyway, I am sure that there is something around but I can't find it.
Can someone suggest something?
Ta
In fact I've purchased Ultimate Juice and more of the features are enabled - but it still doesn't seem to be fully compatible with the DHD
Either ultimate juice or switchoro widget.

Thanks - Switchpro, I think.
Juicedefender just about works but doesn't seemto control the wifi as well as it should.
Is Switchpro automated or is it just a collection of manual toggle widgets?

Push errors? App's crashing? Possible fix!

Howdy!
So- shortly before the NoDo update, I noticed some erratic behavior with some of my apps. For one thing, push notifications for everything that wasn't a phone function seemed to be inconsistent. Secondly, certain apps just wouldn't work (e.g. AP Mobile crashed on launch, Alpha Jax wouldn't show notifications, gReadie, Flixster, AP Mobile and Weather live tiles wouldn't update.)
I did some research and it looks like these errors are related to the "push constipation" issue, where inactive or uninstalled apps with push or live tile function remain in the registry. Now, before NoDo if you had an unlocked device you could install a registry editor and remove some registry entries and the problems were solved... but I decided to wait for NoDo, hoping it would fix the issue but it did not.
So after trying everything, even resetting the phone completely, the issues keep coming back after some time. Until today!
Long story short, for whatever reason, disabling WiFi and cellular data, turning the phone off and then back on, and opening the programs that seem to be having issues while still offline... seems to fix the issue. After turning data back on I can confirm that all of my issues were solved:
AP Mobille tile updates
Alpha Jax notifications come through
gReadie live tile updates
Weather live tile updates
Maybe it's coincidence, but I just wanted to share here so that if any other locked, post NoDo users were having these kind of issues, they could try to fix it.
I was getting super frustrated and hope I can prevent that for some others lol. Good luck!
No go for me...
Alpha Jax from time to time will keep notification on there when in fact there is none, and also from time to time will show no notification when there is one. But on my Arrive after I get a new notification and play the indicator fixes itself, conversely if I have no notification and I have a game to play, if I play out the game, on the next go around the notification works correctly.
AlphaJax keeps giving me the Push Notification error. I tried your method with no luck unless I did something wrong.
I did a hard reset only about 2 weeks ago so this situation is just beyond stupid.
After the NoDo update, my tiles stopped working but using your method worked. I did exactly as you wrote but took an extra step and re-synced my apps that used toast notifications and now they're back. Although, it seems to only work for tiles that use toast notifications because the weather channel tile still has a mind of its own, but that's probably due to pull and not push and I reinstalled AP Mobile but the live tile doesn't work for me.
So Microsoft might be right in that the problem might have to do with some kind of issue with the phone's internet connection instead of the max number of registry entries, or it could be a combo of both??
Either way, thanks dude!
Gus can you post a step by step guide of what you did because I don't get anywhere. Cheers.

I think their problem is different from yours, as I reproduced your problem and this fix won't work for me either. I think there's was just a matter of resyncing the servers after the update while yours is the 'notification constipation' issue. I broke mine purposely, not sure if you remember, and can't get it back. I'm not going to hard reset either as I really don't care, as my main live tile (WeatherBug) still works... But hopefully Microsoft addresses this with a patch. You could always revert back to your back up and unlock as a temporary fix, then reupdate to fix the registry, though I completely agree with you that we shouldn't have to do it, and it shouldn't be an option. I don't think even Microsoft expected the growth it has received, both sales & marketplace wise, or it definitely would have set the limit significantly higher...

auto on/off connectivity toggles

Does any one know how to make an app that can auto on/off connectivity functions?
For 3g,Bluetooth, airplane battery saver??
That would have been perfect. I don't like to have to go into an app to do that, it should have been possible to do it just from a tile.
i don't think the api's necessary are available to developers for that, but i agree it would be a killer app to have.
have it timed auto/on/off
At least for unjailbroken devices I can assure you that this can't be done with the current APIs. Otherwise Apps like Connectivity Shortcuts and Network Dashboard would use this instead of linking to the settings pages.
It might be possible with a jailbreak but as of today i have no App that managed to change those settings programmatically.
What would be killer is to have the phone toggle "ON" wifi when you are at home based on your GPS location. And automatically turn it "OFF" when you were no longer within range.
Its really frustrating as this should be simple for MSFT to implement and this functionality works really well on Android.
I love it that my phone turns the bluetooth on for me to drive to work and BT off and the Wifi on when I get home.....

Question Work Mode toggle in quick settings

I applied EU 12.0.5 OTA a few days ago. Today I noticed a new toggle called Work Mode in quick settings. I guess it arrived or activated with OTA. The toggle was on. Since I don't use the phone for work purposes I turned it off. It put a crossed briefcase icon (off work?) in notification area. See attachment. I wanted to remove this icon by toggling the Work Mode again but the toggle was disappeared from the quick settings. Now I'm left with this Work Mode Disabled icon in the notification area and it's very annoying. I couldn't find any other settings that is related to this. I searched Work in settings which suggested a Synch Work Mode toggle under Accounts & Sync but when I go there there's no such toggle. A quick Google revealed that Android Work Mode function does not work in MIUI and Xiaomi removed it from their ROMs. Looks like there are still bits and pieces remaining in their code and updating to 12.0.5 brought it back in Quick settings. Does anyone experienced a similar issue in 12.0.5? Do you see Work Mode in Quick settings? What happens when you disable the Toggle? Is it still there? I also reordered my Quick settings after that. Not sure editing the Quick settings layout made this toggle disappear. Thanks for your help.
No I dont have one.
Hi, I've got the same icon after previous OTA. Now it's gone, but don't know what exactly I've done to get it disappeared. Maybe just a reboot.
Do you have cloned an app ? My microsoft launcher said a have a work mode because I have a cloned app.

Hi thanks for the feedback. I have some social apps Whatsapp etc. cloned. But it wasn't there before the last OTA. Hopefully next OTA will remove the orphan Work More Disabled icon from my notification area.
hi i too got this crossed briefcase icon , MI sucks in update as usual . don't know when they will clear this error
If you have any of the dual apps (Whatsapp, Facebook etc.) enabled, MIUI asks you to enable the work mode (Yes/No choice), that's how enabled work mode again and got rid of the briefcase icon. I guess they use work mode framework to implement their dual apps functionality. I can access my dual apps again, briefcase icon is gone and I don't see any other difference.

You may need to open settings/apps/dual apps, and then select settings and select delete dual apps and their accounts. Your device will be reboot and you'll find it removed from the notification area.

I'm using Poco launcher. When launched a cloned app it asked me to enable the work mode with a yes/no option. I clicked on yes and cloned apps started working again.
