tempered glass or wet screen protector - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

hi guys,
in your opinion which one is the best, wet screen protector or tempered glass 3D, and why ?
thank you.

I use wet apply because I couldn't find an affordable tempered glass protector that covers the entire screen, adheres properly to the edges, doesn't have a dot-matrix, and doesn't have a rainbow effect.
This wet apply is "G-Color" from Amazon and it's perfect for me.

thank you bro,
but the problem is the sellers of wet apply are from USA - Canada .. i'm from Morocco and i find it too difficult to get one or if i found i find it too expensive, if you could help to buy one for me and of course i'll give you the money that you've paid, but the important point is to find the cheapest post office to send it to my address, i hope you could help

I use the wet apply from Skinomi. Got tired of the tempered glass screen protectors breaking way too easily and getting dirt and bubbles.

Do you still get orange peel effect and all that fun stuff?

Been using Whitestone Glass for a few months and I'm completely happy with the quality. Still think it's overpriced, though.
The touch sensitivity is good, screen is clear and the tools they send make the procedure quite straightforward.

Yes, i have the so called "orange peel" effect. Only recognizable visually, can't notice any protuberances or irregularities when touching the screen.
Touch feel is not like touching glass, but I rarely drop my phone so I only want scratch protection.

I have been using Whitestone, tried it twice now, once on this phone and once on another and after a few months, it always seems that one of the corners messes up. Either something gets under it or something happens but I just had to take it off. I went back to a wet one and it looks so much better and you also don't have that extra thickness from the glass screen. I know it's minimal but when it's on, you can tell.

[Q] Ever use a tempered glass screen protector?

Well, I had to learn the lesson the hard way. It was night time and my niece wanted to catch some crawdads from the small creek in my brother's back yard. I put my phone in the pocket that had my keys (grr!) and crawled along the creekbed catching some crawdads for the kids. Well, the next day I noticed a small hairline scratch about 1cm long. Bummer! So my previously perfect M9 picked up it's first noticeable defect. :crying:
I read that the tempered glass screen covers will tend to make small scratches less visible and provide protection from future scratches. The one I am looking at is 0.33mm thick, so it will still create a bit of a "lip" at the top and bottom of the phone, but the case I use should cover the sides. I never put a screen protector on my M7 and after 1.5 years it was still in very good condition. Perhaps I should just be more careful in the future.
A couple questions:
Does anybody have experience using them with the M9?
Are they easy to remove?
Worth $10 and the hassle?
Thanks
Tried Tempered Glass on my G3 and never looked back.
Unparalleled screen clarity, easy to remove, easily worth the money. Just fit it slowly and carefully
Can't comment on it covering scratches though
I would say the money is worth it. I have one on my M9. They are easy to install just follow the steps. I personally, even if the glass protector on, never put my phone in a pocket with my keys or change or anything. the only thing in front right pocket is my phone and nothing else. this is the one I used http://www.amazon.com/Tech-Armor-Premium-Ballistic-Protector/dp/B00U6EZGCC hope this helps

I use tech armor as well and used cailifu on my s5. Both work great. And haven't gotten a single scratch. Even when trying. Plus the warranty is awesome. My wife's broke 3 of them and I haven't even paid shipping for the replacements. And her phone still looks brand new.
Sent from my HTC One M9
The first thing I did when getting my M9 was to order a Spigen GlasTr screen protector. Though I tend to be careful with my phone, and I have a Seido case/holster, if it weren't for the Spigen glass protector, I would have surely broken my screen. I accidentally 'bobbled' it and the phone landed screen down on my (tile) countertop, chipping the protector. Had it not been there, I would definitely have a chipped or broken screen.
I can't say if applying a protector to your screen will help. I would just rely on the 'Uh,Oh' protection and request a new phone... and then immediately put a screen protector on the replacement. Yes, they're very easy to remove, but not so easy to install. See my guide here: CLICKY - it might help.
Just my two cents.

Bought one from amazon for a couple of quid, really cheap, easy to fit, job done. They can cover certain scratches from past experience depending on the deepness..

Solid feedback. I try to not keep the phone in my pocket as well, but given that I would be leaning over water, the shirt pocket (a common place for it) was out of the question and I didn't have convenient spot to set it down (outside around a fire). The good news is that the scratch is very minor (I've stopped noticing it) and I have a feeling that the screen protector will diminish its appearance. I'm going to hold onto the Uh Oh protection in the event that something really bad happens.
I'll review your guide for tips on the install.
Thanks again!

Not just that but thankfully HTC haven't curved their screens, so there is no halo effect, for example, my last phone the Note 4 had the halo effect, absolutely horrible design floor.
I had the 9H brand on my M8 for the whole year and definitely worth it, so I ordered the 9H again same day I ordered my Dev Edition and installed it soon as I opened the M9 Box.
But I can't speak on the removal as I have never had to take it off for nothing..

as above. It's just like you're using the standard glass screen of the phone. I was worried that due to its slight increase in thickness it would perhaps affect the usage of my dot view case (being able to make calls to last few callers etc) but it works as it should. perfectly definately recommend them over plastic ones any day.
You guys have convinced me. I am going for the tempered glass next time I pass the shop.

Well as many said, the tempered screen protector are harmful to eyes. For me, sometimes, the touchscreen are not that sensitive when I'm unlocking the phone. However, it's not a big deal, wearing a screen protector makes me feel more safe. I bought it from an online supplier: http://www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-m9-tempered-glass-screen-protector.html

Lol, this is a weird thing to read. How does a glass screen protector hurt your eyes? Unless you get it stuck in your eye? If a screen protector has been fitted correctly and its not super thick then you shouldn't have a single problem.

What is the best non-Tempered glass screen protector for LG V20?

Since there don't seem to be any tempered glass screen protectors that cover the entire screen and stick properly to the curved edges, I'm looking for the next best option.
What is the best protective film for the V20?
So far, I have come across these two on eBay:
1. Nillkin HD Clear Crystal Transparent Thin Phone Screen Protector Film For LG V20
2. 2x Mikvon Armor Screen Protector for LG V20 Retail Package with accessories
Anyone have experience with either of these protectors? Are they worth buying?
I tried to find Skinomi on eBay but shipping to my country is not available.
Note. International shipping is important.

Yes I did but the shipping costs are way too high, at U$9.95 + U$4.00 it would cost more to ship to my country than the cost of the screen protector itself.
I got this one and it rocks! It goes all the way to sides and it doesn't attract fingerprints, without compromising the screen quality!

The Armorsuit screen protectors have always treated me well. They seem to be clearer/have less of a "fuzz effect" than the others I've tried. They're wet application if that matters to you. I personally think it makes the process easier.

Mikvon goes from edge to edge. However it does not stick to the top and bottom curve of the phone. You will have a gap and it slowly collect dust. Also if you have a case, it might push on to the SP on the side.

Is this wet application? How much room is on the side? I use spigen case and looking for screen protector that doesn't interfere with it.
If the screen protector goes from edge to edge it has tendency to be peeled off by case.
Also does it cover entire screen from top to botton included lg logo?
Not a wet application. Just a dry one - you'll get quite a bit of bubbles but they clear up within a day. It's got about 1mm at the sides, cutting it a little close - slight off and you'll have that halo issue which I solved by snipping a bit off whichever corner.

So far, I haven't seen such a problem. No dust or lint collecting on the sides. but like I mentioned, slight alignment issues and you'll probably have to trim it off using a cuticle scissors or something - that's what I did. :good::good:

It's definitely better then the Mikvon I got. The ads say "gold..." and the pic shows a tint of gold?? Don't see that in the video though, so it's just a normal TPU SP?

The gold is just the top film used during application. It's really just clear. Not too sure how a TPU SP is like but I reckon yes, it's just a normal clear version.
One word of advice, don't try to remove the cut-outs when you're removing film 1, leave it there, it's easier to remove that way - I learnt that the hard way.
Here's it now, the bubbles are pretty much gone and I haven't done anything specific to it. Perhaps playing some swiping games pushes the bubbles away

Bump. Anyone find anything yet? Tried the highly recommended skinomi and that thing is crap. If you want to feel like you're touching an inner tube for a bike (minus the dirt) enjoy. But I can't stand that rubber feel. Ordered a different PET type from Amazon, hasn't come yet but hoping I'll have luck. Wet installations suck. And absolutely hate tempered glass. So, anyone have any PET type protectors to recommend that cover the whole screen?

Nope, dry install. If centered correctly upon installation, it is complete full coverage. My tip is to get a deep steam in your bathroom, and make sure your hands are clean. I have no lifting from my case and I got a case that the phone slides into. It has been perfect since install. Only 1 comes in package, but lifetime warranty. I highly recommend it.

Screen Protectors Hunt Again

Hi guys so the screen protector hunt starts again ive been looking on amazon uk and some of them seem to be a full adhesive fit does anyone know if the xz2 has flat glass near the main display or is it 2.5D like most models
hear is one ive been looking at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Protector-...6&sr=8-7&keywords=xperia+xz2+screen+protector
On the same hunt, the glass is definitely 2.5D. I wouldn't expect any full adhesive glass protectors to work without massive halo's.

Edit: finally today it's arrived brotect airglass, first time i've buyed and it's arrived a back screen protector for s9+ in xz2 package (???), contact the support and they send me a new for free and it's arrived today...no halo, great brightness and very good oleophobic treatment
i think they all seems to be lying on us... they advertise it as a 3D or full cover edge to edge but when you get your hands on it you realize it only protects the LCD, like flat protector...
well, i like this by IMAK... it's a 3D and full edge to edge film rather than tempered glass... what i don't like about it is not glossy, but rather anti-glare which i hate.

It prevents glass breaking by 30%.
Or was it 70%?
But it definitely strengths the glass structure.

Question Screen protector question

Are there any issues with having a screen protector on this curved screen? Are they harder to put on? Do they tend to come off? I'm trying to decide between getting the Pro or the regular version. I know in the past there were issues with curved screens. In addition to what's mentioned above, the screen protectors for curved screens didn't provide complete coverage. TIA
If your happy with none tempered glass then curved isn't a problem. I've still got the one that came with my devices and have no issues with keeping it on for as long as possible
There some nice uv light glue +tempered glass on aliexp, i'm waiting for mine, i had curved displays before and it's the best you can get, the glue is really there to be on all the surface nad even on the curves, i'm tempted to install some s20+ protector on my 9pro because it's the same size nad curves, till the ones i'm waiting for arrives
It's ok, but my devices prefer naked...

I've ordered a couple too.
I bought the Spigen NeoFlex from Amazon, they are a TPU protector and they are useless, too flexible to apply easily and also the edges do not stay stuck down to the curve so would pick up dirt and come off easily. I sent back for a refund as not fit for purpose in my view.
I bought the Zagg InvisibleShield GlassFusion+ for my Pro and the normal tempered glass by Zagg for my 9. Both with the eye comfort, micropel bs. The GlassFusion+ is the old school "rubbery" type screen protectors. It definitely feels like glass, but isn't glass. It goes somewhat to the edges of the glass. Maybe stops ⅛" from the actual end of the curve. Bubbles like crazy by the curves. Keep having to smooth them out but they keep showing up. Not sure if it's cause of the screen protector or not. Went to register them with Zagg and had to talk to customer care and it escalated to a supervisor because apparently they're not even in their system yet. Go figure lol

Are you saying that the phone comes with a tempered glass screen protector and there are no issues with it?
It sounds like for the curved screen the tempered glass is better and for the flat screen you can use TPU. Is that the consensus?

i still cant recommand it yet because didn't receive it, but what i do recommand is a screen protector that come with the glue and uv light, because the glue will be at all the surface, hardens fast, no bubles, and it does not come loose easily

I've not recieved my glass ones, and I'd certainly go with a LOCA/UV glue version as those that are out on Amazon look to not be full glue coverage, some even just have the top, sides and finger print scanner and they look awful.
I can safely say though that I feel a TPU one would be false economy as not only do they offer very little in the way of drop protection, the one I tried didn't fit well at all.
On my 8 pro , I've used a few UV type glued protectors with no issues at all with Whitestone Dome being my favorite for a genuine feel and solid protection. I emailed them and they said later this month for the 9 pro. If you go this route justake sure to put the sticker over your ear piece when applying the glue.

Whitestone Dome was the best I had on previous phones. Thanks for the info on time frame. My factory-installed film protector just started to lift on one edge yesterday so I'm ready to buy a replacement, but I'll probably wait and get one of those.

Question Just installed a glass screen protector and FPR won't recognize

I did the steps people have said to do like increase touch sensitivity and re add all the fingers I would use but it still won't work. I don't know who made this protector since I got it off a marketplace site and when I met with the person all he gave me was the screen protector. It was only $5 i got it for so no big deal if it's ****.
Other than that it feels good and everything else works fine.
There are some other threads on here about glass screen protectors. The majority don't work with FP, but there are some that do. Check those threads for info.
In general you need to go for the UV glued type..... All the ones with just glue on the edges will leave an air gap between screen and glass, this heavily impedes with FP functionality.....
Is the brand on Google's approved list?

The air gap has nothing to do with it, the Pixel 6 with its perfectly flat screen has the same problems, my wifes Spigen one has rendered her FPS useless.

Thanks, maybe the cause is not as simple as I assumed... Still my experience remains over many phones: the edges-only glued glass protectors just don't work (for me )

I'm not disputing that, i was just clarifying the Pixel 6 suffers the same problem even with a flat screen.
Never had a problem with a 1+ phone using a glass protector over the FPS even with the cheapest crap i could find so as far as i am concerned all the reasons Google are coming out with are absolute cobblers.
So should I just take this thing off or wait for a software update from Google?
I for myself have installed a TPU screen protector presently, awaiting delivery of a UV glass protector as I like those more
I'd hope Google improves the behaviour of the FPS, in how far however I don't know.....
I am currently using the below TPU screen protector and could not be happier with it. My fingerprint scanner works nearly every single time and I have not had an issue. Once the screen protector has been properly applied (I admit, I screwed it up the first time) I cannot even tell that it is on my screen visibly or by touch.
Having said that, I am a little concerned that a TPU screen protector is not as good in general as a glass one. I have not had an issue yet, but I also have not had an accidental drop or anything.
I will also say that I have registered each of my thumbs twice. I will get an occasional "longer" read, and by longer, maybe a half a second longer. However, I have noticed that when that happens, my thumb is slightly out of the read circle. When my thumb is dead center, it reads it every time really quickly.
I am not all that excited about a UV glass protector as I have read horror stories of discoloration and some users not being able to get them off.
Supposedly Google has released their approved screen protectors list. I am not about to spend 50 bucks on a Zagg. The one for Panzer was more reasonable, but it disappeared off their website. The Otterbox is another TPU and I like the one I have:
Amazon.com
I might just take this off and use nothing. I didn't use a protector for my s7 edge or s10+ and didn't get a single scratch. I only got it because I wanted to preserve the oilyaphobic coating. This thing only cost me $5 in the end
Did peeps make sure to use the increased screen sensitivity setting for use with screen protectors?

yes, it makes zero difference.
Typically with curved screens, you need a full-screen adhesive in order for the FPR to work after installation. Either that, or one with edge adhesive with an area over the reader that also sticks to the screen, but I personally think those are kinda ugly. For the regular P6, my girlfriend ordered a brand called "TOCOL" for a glass protector, which is working great all around.
If/when Whitestone Dome releases one for the P6P, that will be the only really good option. It's either that, or buy an edge adhesive style one, buy LOCA glue and a UV lamp, and DYI it. Only way you're going to have glass and a working FPR.
I'm using a TPU protector and a case. TPU has come a long way tbh, the dry install ones I got feel like a naked screen and give me some piece of mind in regard to small scratches. The case does the rest as far as drop protection. Victus Glass is pretty good for shatter resistance generally, but crap for scratches.
OP, I would remove that one if you want to use the Fingerprint Reader. There isn't a software update that's going to solve that problem unfortunately. I'd just use a decent TPU for now and if you really want glass after you try it still pray for Whitestone Dome. There's another thread on here dedicated to working protectors, I'd check that out and pick one.

If you prefer the 9H glass protectors, you'll have to find a glass protector that is "Google certified" to work with fingerprint reader.
These are glued to the screen to make 100% positive contact with the glass protector.
I'm guessing you have a 9H glass protector like mine that has a very small air gap between the screen and the protector. Even with the enhanced fingerprint reader setting, my fingerprint reader doesn't pick up anything.
The TPU flexible protectors supposedly work well, but I like the 9H glass protectors.
The Google Certified 9H glass protectors that I've found are between $15 - $39 per protector, and many of them are "out of stock" at the moment.

Yeah it's only the Pro model that has curved screens and requires UV glue protectors, which there is currently none available until Whitestone Dome releases. I managed to get this and it works perfectly but it's already out of stock [3 Pack]Google Pixel 6 Pro Screen Protector,Akcoo Liquid UV Tempered Glass [Full Screen Adhesive][Edge to edge coverage][Compatible with fingerprint sensor] for Pixel 6 Pro 6.7 inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KC72DW...abc_YW4QX456AX8GJ33BV928?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
