I would go ahead with the update and then unlock the bootloader and install TWRP + Root.

Security Patches coming all 60 days, rigth? So, next one after mai patch is the 07/2018 patch, which should come next month. Maybe with 8.1?

Nice. @Uzephi has a kernel for stock ROMs and one for AOSP based ROMs. I have used the stock ROM kernel with good results and zero issues. Good luck and happy flashing!!

Sure, but I see some problems by using of custom roms on my other phone (Z Play), so I prefer to get official updates without unlocking the bootloader for my newer Z2 Force. Second reason is the guarantee for manufacturer issues. And I need the Z2 Force for watching videos like netflix and co, so safety net needed. SD 835 can content play in HD from netflix, so important thing. On Z Play I can see the pixels (just Full HD), but on Z2 Force it's perfect. Much better, you can't see pixels anymore. That's perfect to play movies. Many people try to explain that we can't see the difference, but I see it. VR an Co is all better now. And I hope that we get 3 years Security Updates. It's an expensive business phone for 800€, so we should get updates for long time.

You can book YouTube Premium(europe). Then you get support for background playback. That's new, calls YouTube Red, too. Maybe that helps.
Edit: VivisClone, you was faster with your answer, just few seconds. But yes, that's the way.

You can use the YouTube Vanced edition that is available as an apk or get it from Magisk. It allows background playback and ad blocking plus some other settings that the stock YouTube app doesn't have like forced Codecs and Max resolution override as well as a few themed editions. It's the only version of YouTube I will use. There is even a version available for non-rooted devices that still gives the same options.

I just got a Mix 2 in China and got the google play store installed from the Mi App Store. Everything works fine except for Netflix...
Whenever I try t load the app, I get "Device Failure" or "The app needs to be restarted" errors.
I have tried clearing the cache and re-installing the app, but nothing changes...
Anyone else see this issue before? Does it have something to do with getting the phone in China or is it possibly just an issue with the current MIUI and Netflix versions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Yeah, I got the same issue with the Chinese ROM. I suspect it is because Google Play services is not a system app, but sideloaded. Did you register your device with MIUI.com and request a bootloader unlock? Go do that.
In three days you can unlock and load up MIUI EU ROM or EpicROM that will have Goole Play and safetynet preinstalled. You might also want to install Magisk to hide the unlocked bootloader.
Same
Having the same issue here, waiting for the 72hrs to pass so that I can flash the EU rom
Didn't Netflix announce recently they would block unlocked phones?

I don't have that problem with EU rom.

Hi everyone! I just got the mi mix 2 and I´m experiencing the same problem.
I just applied for the unlock code (72h I guess?) and downloaded playstore through the mi store and then I downloaded netflix.
I got the 500.-1006 error. Did the global rom fix this issue?

Hi there guys! Just flashed the global rom! I can´t download netflix on this rom now...on chinese it appeared to download.
It is because of the unlocked bootloader?

Official Xposed Framework for Android Nougat is Here – Download your Favorite Modules Now!
Announcement by rovo89 in XDA thread
Anyone tried it yet? Please give your feedback here.
He also says Xposed for Oreo won't be a long wait!
Tried it on a stock build, rooted, BL unlocked, etc. Installs great. The Youtube adaway works well, greenify doesnt work yet. the others I use arnt supporting N yet. only a matter of time
either way, its safe to install, make sure you install the correct version, and wipe cache on boot, or else stuff breaks
I mainly used (on my Moto X Pure running MM): GravityBox (which is supposed to be ready), Youtube adaway, and Youtube background play. Greenify and Amplify too but not nearly as important on this phone. OG Youtube has given me pretty much the same capability using custom ROMs, though, along with some of the customization you get in Gravitybox. I do wonder about a potential performance hit running the Xposed framework, but it'd sure be nice having the full stock camera functionality again.

Can you please share the direct download link of what needs to be flashed/installed first? It would be great if you can mention the order of flash/install as well? This is for users like me who would be requiring some help.
Also, I have magisk 14 installed on my rooted g5 Plus and am seeing Xposed Installer in the Downloads section? Can you please confirm if this is the official one?

I'm using the GB beta. It's working well for me. No need to flash AOSP anymore
GB has all the things I like to flash LOS for and I don't have to deal with any bugs :good:
I've got it running too, thanks to the favorable feedback getting me to take the plunge after not being on stock for several months. Am using the Youtube Adaway that appears under Installer/Download, then found a Youtube Background Playback module apk that seems to work fine, and the GravityBox/Nougat also as an apk (says it's alpha, not beta). No errors or problems so far and settings are holding after reboots.
I'm really not a big camera user but the stock camera is noticeably brighter and just works way better than those on the custom roms. Viper4Arise (flashed as a zip in TWRP) works on everything but SoundCloud, which I think is a nougat thing because it works on all the oreo roms I tried, but also didn't on most nougat roms.
I'd say it's definitely a go for those wanting to try it, just do some research to see if your preferred modules are working or not, and don't expect it to be perfect yet since it just came out.

Hi Guys, we know 6T is One of the Netflix HD 4K certificated devices for L1 certification, unlike the Mi 8, and this can be from my personal side a decision point because I do use 4K contents a lot.
Now I know that after unlooking the bootloader we loose this ability and the service get recognized as an L3 Widevine device because of root.
I think that if we hide root through Magisk, and filter Netflix APP and all related software/services/apps/ and DRM info app etc, by correcting configuring latest Magisk, and of course we add also play store and Google service framework to Magisk hide filter after cancelling data in order to get on play store "certified device", I think that L1 certification will work but I can try test by myself because I don't have the 6T.
Can anyone make these tests and confirm once for all and for everyone that if we unlock the bootloader on 6T there will be never a way to have the L1 certifications?
Can anyone with 6T ALREADY unlocked bootloader check DRM info app if it reports L1 by hidding Netflix in Magisk? No need for risk or operations, just who already have an unlocked 6T with magisk, can just check, no operations to do, no request particular, just a check to know if it works or not.
Useless to reply to above comment, the guy must have some serious relationship and inner hate problems, go get solved for your sake. :*

The OP6T has L1 when it's stock/locked bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader puts it to L3.
OP if you can elaborate on this that would be great, I don't particularly care about L1 but I'll happily test. You aren't specific at all as to what you think should be hidden through magisk. Maybe download the official 9.0.6 OTA and look through it and list exactly what you want done.
I hid Netflix in MagiskHide and repacked Magisk Manager. I know it works because I pass SafetyNet and can play Pokemon Go.
DRM Info still says L3 with an unlocked bootloader. Didn't bother to hide DRM Info, but it wouldn't matter (it's not a detection issue, the decryption keys are unreadable with the bootloader unlocked).
Hope that answers your question OP. Also, this should have been in Q&A.
I don't even have Netflix installed and it's L3. Yet on my v30, rooted with Xposed and with Oreo and Netflix, I'm at L1.
Other than the OS, the Widevine is vslersion1.0 (v30 L1) and 6t is 14.0 (L3) maybe we could port v1 somehow?
I have no idea how any of this works so just throwing ideas out there

Read a bit before making theories. Widevine ISN'T linked to root or OS! It's encoded directly in the chip and is only linked to bootloader status, which can't be hidden. You can hide root 234678 times under 35678 carpets for 368322 apps Netflix will still be reading L3 as it's at hardware device level.
You're asking to add oranges and bananas
For the x-th time

It's in the Trusted Zone of the processor. Nothing to do with OS

What he said...to the original poster, I'm sure you've read my previous threads. Any modern device has Widevine and bootloader status intertwined. It's not going to happen.
Unlock bootloader = L3
Locked bootloader = L1
What I had to decide (and you will too) as to which is more important...
Substratum / Titanium Backup
<<OR>>
HD Video for DRM content + no jumping through hoola hoops for updates of ROM (reinstalling TWRP/Magisk) and updates of apps (constantly re-applying substratum themes)
iYTBP & system-wide ad-blocking is possible these days w/o root so I didn't use that for criteria.

Blokada is VPN based which is a no-no for some people, if you're not aware of it being a problem for you it probably isn't.

I'm not sure about any of that I'm running 1080 but I also hide magisk from Netflix so maybe that helps? Either way it's definitely a solution. As soon as you unlock your bootloader Google play hides Netflix. But if you find the apk online and install it then root and hide magisk you should be fine

Yeah I can confirm latest Magisk 18 breaks Substratum, so either stay on 17.3 or deal with being blinded by white backgrounds. Try flashing Magisk 18 in the Magisk manager app itself instead of in twrp, I was having problems gaining root until I did that. I'm currently on ver 18 with Substratum working.
There is a new update available for substratum on the Google play. I hope this resolves the issue.

Even with Substratum taken out of the equation, I was having problems getting root with Magisk 18 until I flashed within Magisk app and chose recommended install option.
I'm on December update, have latest substratum after fresh install of latest update from Google. Magisk 17.1
I can compile a theme and they all show. When I restart and then try and change overlay state, it tells me to compile first ??!! Any idea

Kost7 is correct. You must be on magisk 18.0 if you want to use substratum :good:

You guys are awesome ?
I've bootlooped before when installing the 17.3 zip in twrp. What's the safest way to upgrade to 18

Just let magisk upgrade itself from within the magisk manager app. Worked without issue for me :good:
Did it with twrp and worked. Thanks again!!!
Hello, guys! I have a question for you; I hope you could help me out with this, I've been looking over the web and couldn't find anything.
First some background.
Right after I bought my POCO F3, I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the xiaomi.eu rom, I stayed there for months, but then I wanted to try some AOSP ROMs, so I flashed crDroid, it wasn't what I was looking for, so I switched to Pixel Experience, I was pretty happy with it but some banking apps didn't work even with Magisk and zygisk and all that stuff, so I tried to flash Pixel OS but their recovery didn't work for me, my last shot was Lineage OS, but it was similar to crDroid, long story short, I decided to go back to MIUI global.
I used the official MiFlash tool and flashed the latest release of MIUI global stable through fastboot.
My concern is the following, after flashing the original rom through fastboot with the option "clean_all" is the phone stays the same as before flashing all that stuff? If not, what should I do?
Somehow I feel like there is a huge mess in the internal memory and I just want to make sure that everything is formatted, cleaned and original, like it never had any custom rom installed before.
If you chose clean all it will be like Brandon new, take note if you leave the bootloader un locked it will not pass google play store of certification, how lame right ,they want you to lock the bootloader, that's why I chose Arrow

I didn't now that, I just installed safetynet test and it fails the CTS profile match
Can I just lock the bootloader again to go back to normal? I don't plan to keep messing around with custom roms again

Thanks bro, I'll do that
You don't need to lock the BL.
Get Magisk, enable Zygisk, and use the Magisk Module "SafetyNet Fix" from GitHub. The Module did the job for me.
Might also work on Pixel Experience. ^^
I'm currently just using Stock MIUI 13.

I already did that in pixel experience, but there was just one banking app that didn't want to work no matter what I try. I really wanted to stay in pixel experience but now that I'm back in MIUI 13 with poco launcher 4 it's not that bad either, at least I have Dolby Atmos, HDR and all that stuff.

Yeah because of Dolby Atmos and MIUI Camera I'm also staying on MIUI. ^^
BTW, just to really make sure, you used Magisk Module "SafetyNet Fix" on Pixel Experience, yes?
You can try deleting the folder "TWRP" if existent (some apps check for that folder, e.g. Mario Kart). You can also try hiding Magisk App (apps also check for that app).

if you want the goodies of MIUI but also to pass safetynet without issues i suggest you to try "xiaomi eu"
they are based on the chinese rom which is ahead in terms of features and bugfixes (specially the beta) and have some optimizations to make the experience better

Tried it.. it's oky... I like Google System Apps more. Call Recording Feature was nice. :v
But unfortunately, GSI's didn't work/boot with Xiaomi.eu (Generic System Images). I like to be able to use GSI's, to try out other new OSes from time to time, Dual Boot sorta. ^^
