Installing Maximus HD - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I'm a little uncertain what to do next. I updated to latest Oreo from stock firmware on US GSM unlocked, then unlocked the bootloader and installed the latest TWRP. Then I flashed LeeDroid but that wasn't working out too well. So I wanted to try Maximus but I need S-Off and the latest firmware, so I just wiped Data and wanted to start over.
What would be the best way to start over with TWRP? Stock ROM and all?

Just flash the Maximus rom from twrp. The Maximus thread says you need 3.16 firmware or higher, which you have if you were on stock Oreo.

Thanks!

[Q]Trying to revert back to stock 1.26 to update OTA update question please

Hi guys. Could not find a straight up answer to my question due to the fact other people seem to do things different. Here is my question:
My phone came branded from Three UK. Firmware version was 1.26. Anyways i unlocked through HTCDev and flashed custom recovery. Anyways flashed ARHD latest version and that is based on 1.28 update.
Here is my main question.
Since i have done a backup of my stock rom on 1.26 can i just revert back to that and flash stock recovery and just update then OTA once an update is released? Or is there a different process to the whole thing? I know it is best not to flash a RUU since my phone is branded. But does the method i just suggested work? And can i still do it with unlock bootloader or does it need to be locked.
Any answers would be appreciated..Thanks
seriously no one knows the answer if i could restore my backup stock rom, flash stock recovery lock bootloader and then update OTA when my carrier releases it?
I did about the same thing yesterday but for different reasons. I wanted to make sure my radio and hboot were updated.
My process:
I reflashed the nandroid backup of my stock 1.26 rom first
flashed the stock kernel through fastboot
booted into the stock rom
downloaded the 1.28 OTA update and installed it
Reflashed the custom recovery
reflashed my custom rom
I hope it helps. So I didn't re-lock the bootloader first.

EDIT:at what step though did you relock the bootloader or you did not?
3rdeyer
did you have a branded, or unbranded handy?
Unbranded device, and I didn't relock the bootloader at all.

Brand new One. Can't get any ROMs working.

I got the bootloader unlocked. I flashed TWRP. I installed SuperSu. Now after wiping and installing a new ROM, I can no longer get passed the HTC logo at all. I have tried multiple ROMs including Eragon ROM, Skydragon, and Viper. I really have no idea what to do at this point. Please help. If you need more info just ask. I am able to get into bootloader and TWRP but nothing I have tried has worked. This is the AT&T variant.
Edit: I've also just tried using a different recovery as well (Philz).. no luck.
the only time i had this happening with the M8 was when i forgot to do a full wipe before flashing, then got stuck with the logo. Are you absolutely sure you're performing a full wipe prior to flashing (daft Q i know).
Maybe it's something to do with TWRP? I'm using PhilZ Touch (simply because that it was recommended on the skydragon thread).
Can you restore the original ROM from a backup?

Yes I am doing a full wipe before install. This is incredibly stupid of me and you can all make fun of me for it but I didn't have a backup. I am coming off of an M7 and never had issues with it so I figured it was fine. Guess I was wrong. . I thought it came with a backup stock but there is not one.
What's your hboot no. on the bootloader.
All these ROMs require no lower than hboot 3.19.0000

That could be it then. Says I'm on 3.16.0.0000. So I'll have to be S-Off and update my firmware then to get any ROMs working?

I'm not familiar with AT&T variant. The last info that I know they have RUU for 4.4.4, not sure about lollipop.
If you have plan to S-Off your device, with hboot 3.16.0000 you have better chance to do it with SunShine.
Once you updated your firmware, the chance to S-Off is slimmer.
Either you browse thru AT&T forum for info or maybe @redpoint73 can assist you here.

Depending on the ROM, most of them require a particular firmware (which contains hboot, radio, WiFI, media moduels and others), not just the hboot.
You can update to 4.4.4 firmware by RUU (relock bootloader since you are s-on). Backup any personal data first, as RUU will wipe the phone.
Once updated to 4.4.4 firmware, you can run any ROM that supports that firmware. If you want a ROM that requires 5.0 firmware, you currently need s-off to manually (by "unofficial" means) update the firmware; until AT&T releases official 5.0.
Yes, its confusing and you can blame HTC for the firmware complications.

skydragon rom - stuck at boot screen

I have an AT&T HTC One M8. It was already rooted when it bought it. Running stock 4.4.2
I have installed the most current version of TWRP. I created a successful backup.
I am trying to install the ROM for skydragon 5.5 but it just gets stuck on the startup screen (white android screen)
I am S-on.
I flashed (via fastboot) the boot.img from the Skydragon 5.5 Rom.
I installed Skydragon 5.5 Rom from the TWRP install screen.
(note - these are the instructions from skydragon website and it states I do not need S-off as long as I flash the boot image)
When I reboot it just hangs on the startup screen (white android screen)
I can recover to get back to a working phone but I would really like to upgrade to skydragon. I have been having constant problems with bluetooth headsets on the stock 4.4.2 and am hoping the newer skydragon ROM and boot.img would resolve the poor bluetooth sound quality issues.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You probably need to update your firmware/hboot.

As mentioned, you need to update your firmware.
Current ROMs won't run properly (extreme long boot times, broken WiFi) on old firmware (hboot, radio, etc.).
Plus, the current TWRP will not flash ROMs properly on the old hboot.
I dont fully understand why but I lost my backup during my installation of the new skydragon ROM. The backups were on the SD card.......and then they vanished.
I did manage to barely avoid bricking my phone. I re-locked my phone, installed the HTC RUU for lollipop and got my phone back to working. I had been trying to use sunshine S-off tool so that I could upgrade the firmware but I couldnt get my phone to boot up to perform the S-off installation process.
I still want to install skydragon. These are the steps I think I need to take.
1. unlock/root my HTC M8
2. Install TWRP
3. Backup my phone
4. install the new Skydragon Lollipop ROM
* note - I assume that I dont need S-OFF since my firmware should have already been upgraded when I installed the HTC Lollipop RUU.
If my phone is S-off will the skydragon lollipop ROM installation automatically install the firmware? Or is that a separate installation?
1: You lost all because you ran a RUU !
2: A custom rom NEVER changes the firmware

To confirm whether the firmware was updated or not; what does it say on the hboot screen for hboot number, radio baseband, and OS number?

Flashing a ROM never updates your firmware. The firmware partitions (hboot, radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.) are not included in a ROM zip.
Firmware flash is done as a separate action, usually via fastboot.
Actually I lost my backup before I installed the RUU......otherwise I would have reverted to my previous kitkat installation rather than installing the RUU and losing all my data. I know the RUU basically reimages all the memory.
I was using sideload to install the skydragon ROM. I suspect I did something wrong during one my fastboot flash commands or the adb sideload commands.

Need HELP please!!

Hi, i'm from Mexico (Telcel) and i have the international version of the m9.
Here is what i did:
My phone was on version 5.1.0 (stock ROM) and i unlocked the bootloader, flashed newest 2.8.7.0 and SuperSU then wiped and restarted the phone, everything seems to be fine so far.
The problem started after i tried to install Viperone m9 with Android 6 custom ROM.
When i install Viperone 4.2.1 everything seems to working fine but after restarting the device it goes straight to the fastboot menu (the one with the "Software status: Modified") but wont boot the OS (same happens with the ARHD version 20.00)
I'm very worried, i hope you guys can help.
You can't flash Android 6 on a M9 with Android 5 firmware. Either you use the Android 5 versions of the customs roms you like (e.g. Viper One M9 3.5) or you wait for the official Android M OTA to get distributed or you get S-OFF via Sunshine and flash one of the already existing Android M firmwares (whether it's an official from a different SKU or an unofficial one doesn't matter).

If you don't want S-OFF, just flash Android Revolution HD 14 (Lollipop 5.1) and wait then for official OTA in your region to get new firmware on your phone and flash a Marshmallow Sense rom. It shouldn't be so long anymore

What would be the best course of action in this case? what would you recommend? should i do S-Off in Sunshine or stick with ARHD 14.00 in the meanwhile?
It actually depends on your patience. I don't know the distribution date of the Telcel update but the European one is said to arrive this week. If you can live without Android M for a bit longer then I would recommend using ARHD 14 or Viper 3.5 until Telcel distributes the update.

The only reason to get S-OFF is to be able to flash a 3.x firmware before the official one arrives in your country. Whatever the rom you're installing, if you haven't got any patience anymore, it will let you install a 3.x firmware from another country but you'll have to pay 25$ to Sunshine for it.
For me, waiting some days more with Lollipop (without to pay for a Sunshine licence that will be usable only with the unlocked device) will be the solution.
After that, returning stock, receiving firmware via OTA and flash Marshmallow Sense custom rom (ARHD 20)

That's not a problem. You installed ViperOne! So that means you have a custom recovery and you're smartphone is rooted, that's enough. Which recovery did you install? With TWRP recovery you can plug in your smartphone to your pc and mount the sd card on your computer. You download ARHD 14, you copy to your sd card and install it with TWRP. Your smartphone will take more time to boot for the first time after that.
Is it enough clear for you like this?

Upgrade ViperoneM9 3.5 (Android 5.1) to Leedroid

Hi I have ViperoneM9 3.5 (Android 5.1) installed on my phone. I wanted to try Leedroid. My phone is bootloader unlocked and s-off. I know I need to install the latest MM firmware on my phone first.
I downloaded the HTC RUU. Do I need to relock bootloader to install the RUU? If I installed it, will it lock the bootloader? I believe the S-off will remain, correct?
Since my phone is s-off, I can follow this [2016.05.17] S-OFF Firmware flashing (Fastboot) (Current: 3.38.502.12) Should I install Full Stock WIPE ZIPs or Nonwipe zips?
Once I update the firmware, can I reboot into Lollipop or I have to install MM right after installing the firmware?
Just don't want to brick my phone. Any other comments are welcomed. Thanks.

You're s-off, so no relocking bootloader needed I believe. I updated my m10 using no wipe, but had the MM LeeDrOiD rom on my phone ready for flashing via TWRP afterwards.
Do more reading, get your files ready and it should be plain sailing from there, fingers crossed.
