only good thing will happen :
face unlock
ota 9.5.13.0
volte
im in France, went to india for face unlock, then indonesia for ota and last hong kong for volte, but i guess indonesia is enough for all
Isn't the region tied, for instance, with the gps, ntp or similar?
For instance i'm in Italy and region is Italy. I have a fantastic gps fix within very few seconds... If i changed region to Hong Kong to get the Face unlock, my GPS would bè broken?

just try, its quick to test. But gps fix will be as good as before.
Dont know why xi has made such restriction/features based on region.
Im on miui10 china beta with no region choice and gps works just fine.
Ok, so if i changed from region Italy to Hong Kong does the ota still work and the updates are still for the global version ?

I think.. no matter where you live.. but you have to select region india only...

Hi!
Does anyone know if the Hong Kong modell will work properly with the european bands? And is it true that if you don't use the phone in the Asian country you bought it from the phone gets blocked in Europe?

I brought a note 5 from hong kong before i got the 7. It was sealed box and worked fine on both three and vodafone networks. Just check tye lte bands for your network and cross check with the spec listing

By the way, I had a surprise.
I read everywere that the note 7 hadn't radio, but the HK version has! Works very well in Portugal and in Italy.
I want to buy a Galaxy S9. Since there are some complains about the exynos version (battery life, performance, especially 3d performance in games) i want to get the Snapdragon version. Custom Roms etc. doens't matter for me. Is it possible to just order the Galaxy S9 g9600 Hong Kong Version and use it normaly here in germany? Does the region even matter?
>>UPDATE<<
tl;dr: Yes you can!
I'm also interested in getting an answer from somebody who has experienced with this.
After Googling around, I think you will have no problem using the phone. The only problem is that the ROM is full of bloat targeted to the Asian audience. What people do normally is they flash the Brazilian version, which uses the same hardware, and should be a very clean rom. I would feel more confident if somebody came and confirmed who I read around.
I bought the S9 online from Hong Kong (SM-G9600/DS) to use in Australia and it works well with full 4g (LTE) bands. I would assume that it would also work fine with European bands as well. I have not had any issues with the phone at all.
The only potential issue is that you wont be able to use VoLTE outside of Hong Kong. Personally this doesn't bother me.
I'd recommend importing the SM-G9600 form overseas.

I can confirm after buying a SM-G9600 online from Hong Kong, it has NO Asian Bloatware and overall a fairly clean rom. Most pre-installed apps are actually useful (such as Facebook or Twitter). The only difference that I have noticed over 4 weeks of having this phone is that in the shopping option of bixby vison (where you point the camera at an object and it comes up with a product you can buy) it shows Hong Kong results. And also the advertising in samsung pay is in Chinese.
None of this a problem that affects overall usability and is very minor. I would definitely recommend buying the SM-G9600 from Hong Kong.
Would it make sense to flash the Brazil ZTO ROM or is the Hong Kong ROM just fine?
Hows the battery life on the HK version? HK has the snapdragon variant i assume it has good battery?
Could Hk version S9/S9+ be root now? Does anyone know how to root Hk version S9/S9+?
Good day. I am thinking in getting a Snapdragon version (American or HK), and would love to know if it works in Europe too.
It seems that the battery life of the phone with Exynos is far worse
If this is the case and the phone is locked to Asia region, is there any way to unlock the phone without an Asia SIM card? Or do I have to send it back?
EDIT: The phone got shipped today and should arrive the end of this week or next week. I will make an update if the Galaxy S9 Dual Sim from Hong Kong is region locked or not
Update: The Galaxy S9 arrived today and everything works perfectly. I had no region sticker on the box and my german simcard works just fine. The only bloatware, that is preinstalled are some microsoft apps (word, excel, powerpoint, onedrive). Overall i am very happy that everything is working flawlessly.

I asked so because I read that the only potential issues in buying a different region version could be Samsung Pay and VoLTE not working.

Does the Hong Kong version support VoLTE or wifi calling? I bought a G9600/DS with the Latin America CSC (has OWO in the version number as opposed to TGY in the HK version) and it does not support either feature. Can you let us know please. I'm thinking of flashing with the TGY CSC if it supports VoLTE and Wifi calling.

HK version does support both VoLTE and VoWiFi but will that work in non-HK carrier in other countries I have doubts
I am also very curious about VoLTE in other countries. Let us know.

voLTE will only work in Hong Kong. If you root and use a custom ROM the CSC Code can be modified. This is only possible if your device's bootloader is unlocked. As the CSC Code is Region or Carrier Specific you'll need to match your new code to the location and/or carrier.

Hi guys,
I also want to buy one S9 with Snapdragon from overseas, what site did you use?
Best Regards
Amazon and Ebay both offer the Snapdragon variation. Ebay is usually less expensive.

Hi,
I bought a Note 10 + Today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Long story short - After a brief search online, I found the best price available on a website. It's only later when I realized that the phone is imported from Taiwan given that the Phones Model is SM-N9750.
What I found really frustrating is that some applications display the Taiwanese language. I check Sammobile for the same model and found that the only two countries supporting this particular model is Taiwan and Hong Kong. The rest of the phones from different countries have a different model number. So, is it possible for me to flash a firmware from any other country ( Preferably from USA, UK, UAE or India)? If so, which one is compatible?
Thanks
I have the N9750 (TGY/Hongkong) and it's in full French, I don't have app in Chinese.
maybe make a factory reset and reconfigure your phone in your language

No Im afraid you cannot. N9750 is being sold only in two regions as far as I know. Hong Kong and Taiwan. I also have a N9750 TGY/Hong Kong. And I love it. Absolutely no bloatware, dual sim and SD855. Only con I see is its updates are slow compared to other models. No Android 10 beta or stable till date

Well, that's sad. I was hoping that it might be compatible with any firmware that running on exynos.
Not that I don't like Taiwan and Hong Kong based fw. It really is rock solid.
Here's hoping that someone might test out alternative fw for this model in the future and let us know.
Thanks.

S10+ Hong Kong version took whole one month over international model. So Im pretty sure the same formula will apply to our model aswel
I expect Android 10 update to arrive on 15 January at earliest.

I also have a 9750 (shipped with BRI, then I changed it to TGY using Samkey) and found that during the OOB setup, some app titles were in Chinese, but as long as you chose English on the very first screen, everything including those with Chinese app titles will end up being in English. As a last resort, you can do a full reset and make sure you select English on the first screen.
If you need help navigating, try using Google Translate's live camera translation from another phone to understand what is displayed on your screen (I had to do that once since my S9+ shipped already on the home screen--in Chinese.)

The Chinese government is probably vetting it to make sure there's no hidden code meant to subvert their policies and make it easier to organize pro-democracy rallies (j/k).

Same thing here. Wondering if we can do anything to change the language.
More serious issue i am facing is that the bottom speaker doesn't work at times even after the factory reset. Does anyone face that issue? I guess i should replace the phone as this issue persists. Can i get advice on this?

No Snapdragon variants support eSim besides the Galaxy Fold. Changing the Firmware or CSC won't enable eSim. SM-G9860 is a Dual SIM Device, eSim shouldn't be an issue.

It's a few issues, an e-Sim is soldered to the motherboard, that's hardware related. The only thing which makes sense in adding an e-Sim on a Dual Sim device such as yours is you could use a MicroSD in combination with both Sim's. e-Sim can accommodate up to 5 virtual numbers. I suppose some businessmen would find that useful but in general 2 Sim's are more than enough for most users. On the Galaxy S8 you could shave a Sim and attach it to the top of a MicroSD, allowing Dual Sim's and external memory however Samsung eliminated that option on the S9. I doubt the S20 can be customized in that manner.

In theory all S20 models have eSim capability. I don't know if all S20 models have eSim hardware. I think that's the case however eSim functionality also requires the Carrier's wireless service provide each customer an eSim Profile. Why they haven't or won't offer that feature for Snapdragon variants of the S20 is a good question but I doubt any CSR can answer that. I and others believe US Carriers don't want to enhance their customers ability to switch service provider's at their discretion. Customer Retention surely is part of the reason.
Explains why Samsung updates are slow; They are busy making 100 different variants of the same model, removing that resister and that transistor etc etc country to country.

Totally agree, way too many variants has led to a lot of frustration. Samsung should equip all models with a single, efficient SoC. This would be a great first step for rectifying compatibility issues
Hi all, new to this, needed some help from you guys to clarify something for me. I want to import the Snapdragon variant of s20 from Korea to UK. Is it possible to flash UK firmware on this and get updates as normal for my region? Not sure if region specific firmware is tailored for Snapdragon or exynos. Any help at all would be highly appreciated.
S20 snapdragon has a different model number and you will not be able to flash any EU firmwares on it.
No, you'd need the Exynos International model to use UK firmware, if you want Snapdragon running English firmware import it from the US
Why do you need English firmware?
I am using an HK One and its good for everything including Samsung Pay.

Thanks for replying guys. So I don't really need to do anything other than change language during set up? Im with Vodafone UK. I read volte doesn't work but also read that it does work too lol. I'm guessing I can log into Samsung account as normal for themes and wallpapers, and use play store as normal for banking apps etc? Not fussed about Samsung pay really.

Everything should work fine, including carrier specific features such as volte and Vowifi. I have imported a snapdragon S20+ from Hong Kong in Romania and with Orange I have every single carrier features working correctly (Volte/VoWIFI/5G/RCS). It's just that the APN profiles won't get installed by default, at least not in my case. If you have any further questions I'd be glad to help you.
I use the s20 plus snapdragon in the uk, Taiwan model I think.. How do I get Samsung members to show English language mainly
