[Review] ZTE Blade S6 PLUS

Hello,
here is my review of the new ZTE Blade S6 PLUS. The original review is written in German language (my native language) and you can find it here: Link removed. I will sometimes compare the Plus with the normal model that I have already tested some weeks ago Link removed

I have received the ZTE Blade S6 Plus for this review.

Unboxing: What’s in the box?
It is one of the first cellphones that I have received factory sealed. So I was able to say that it was a brand new phone and no one else has ever used it.
After removing the sealing I could see the phone, a small foldable manual and an USB/data cable with a power adapter in two different boxes. The power adapter is suitable to EU wall-socket.
Casing & Build Quality
The build quality is very good. Nothing knars and there is a nice looking silver frame around the front of the phone. The whole body is, like the one of the normal Blade S6, made out of plastic but it doesn’t feel cheap. Some users of the normal S6 mentioned that they are able to push in the back of the phone with their fingers. This isn’t the case here. Maybe because the backcover is removable on this phone (on the normal version it isn’t).
If we stay at the back of the phone we will find the dual LED flash in the top left corner. Next to it the 13MP back camera and a microphone. The camera is framed by a silver circle just like the front of the phone. Approximately 2cm below you can find the ZTE logo imprinted in light-grey.
At low range you can a CE logo, the number „1588“ and a picture of a crossed out bin. The writing „Designed by ZTE in California Assembled in China“, that you can find on the normal Blade S6, is missing. Lately there is the loudspeaker with a small bump next to it so that the phone doesn’t lay flat on the backside and covers the loudspeaker.
On the right-hand side you can detect the volume control and the on-off switch down below.
The micro-USB connector is in the middle of the bottom and next to it in the right corner you can find a microphone. The USB-port is a bit special because you use it to remove the backcover of the phone.
The left-hand side of the phone is clean. There are no buttons or for example SimSlots like on the normal Blade S6.
The 3,5mm headphone jack and the IR-blaster are placed on top of the phone.
If we look at the front of the ZTE Blade S6 Plus we will be able to see the all-white borders and the black display. The position of the earpiece is at top in the middle. Left besides is a sensor bar and lately the front-camera. Below the screen is a blue circle. It’s the homebutton. If the phone is turned off or in standby the two buttons left and right next to the homebutton aren’t noticeable.
There is one more thing to mention. The phone has rounded edges.
As previously reported is the backcover, in contrast to the normal Blade S6, removable on the Plus version. If you remove the back of the phone you will find the 3000mAh battery, the two micro-SimcardSlots and the micro-SdSlot. Of course there are the dual LED and back-camera visible, too.
With its rounded edges and the thickness of 8,4mm the ZTE Blade S6 Plus feels very good in the hand. The plastic housing doesn’t feel cheap because everything is well build and it isn’t too lightweight.
The borders around the screen are big and according to this the dimensions of the phone are bigger than other 5,5“ screens, too.
Display / Touchscreen / Multitouch
The used 5,5” 1280x720 IPS HD-Display is great. I can’t see any pixels and the colors are natural. The viewing angle is stable and watching YouTube videos makes a lot of fun. You can adjust the brightness very high and this is why there should be no problem using this phone in sunlight. The automatic brightness adjustment also works well and reacts fast on changing ambient light conditions. So far there have been no ghost-touches or something like that. The touchscreen is very snappy and precise. Finally I have to say that it is a five point multitouch screen.
Processor & Storage
The ZTE Blade S6 Plus has the same processor like the normal version. It is the solid Snapdragon 615 octacore processor with an Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB RAM.
It’s a 64bit Prozessor and there are no lags noticeable. Not even if you switch fast between the different homescreens. Apps and games starts fast and works well. I could even play graphic intense games like Asphalt8 and RealRacing3 on highest settings without any problems. 2Gb RAM are enough space to run various apps at the same time. For example it is possible to hear music in the background and to surf on the internet at the same time.
The phone has 16Gb of internal storage. The storage is partitioned in System Rom, User Rom and Internal SD card. You can expand it with a micro SDcard with up to 64Gb. I have tested a 64Gb micro SD card from Sandisc and it worked like a charm.
2G / 3G / 4G
The ZTE Blade S6 Plus supports DualSim (two Micro-simcards) and 4G LTE. The reception is very good and without any abortions.
Attention: SimSlot2 only supports 2G! You can only use 3G and 4G LTE in SimSot1. But of course you can make calls or write sms with in both SimSlots.
Sensors
To see the supported/build in sensors please check the GoogleDrive link that I have provided at the end of my review.
Wlan
The Wlan reception/range is very good. It is even better than on my Meizu MX4.
Bluetooth
The Bluetooth range is very long, too. I have tested it with several phones and Bluetooth speaker.
Cameras
The front-camera has 5MP with a F2.2 aperture and a 80° wide-angle lens. The main camera on the back has 13MP with a F2.0 aperture and gets support by a dual LED flash.
The camera quality of both camera is decent in my eyes. The front-camera is good enough for selfies and apps like Skype and with the back-camera you can make snapshots and semi-professional pictures.
Please conceive an opinion by yourself by looking at the pictures at my GoogleDrive folder (link provided at the end of my review). All pictures were made with the preinstalled camera app without any changes in the settings.

Firmware
The ZTE Blade S6 comes with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box. Everything works fast and reacts snapppy.
The preinstalled launcher is called „MiFavor 3.0“ and looks good. There is no app drawer, so you find all the installed apps on the homescreen just like on FlymeOS or MIUI. You have to sort your Apps with folders for a better user experience. If you don’t like it you can easily download a different launcher with the preinstalled Google PlayStore.
Sliding up on the homescreen or pressing the menu button (left or right next to the homebutton) opens a menu where you can change the background/wallpaper or the animation when you scroll through the different homescreens. In the settings is possible to change the function of the two buttons around the homebutton. You can select that the back button is on the right and that the menu button is on the left side of the homebutton or the other way around.
If you hold the homebutton for a while (not only touch it) GoogleSearch will open. The ZTE Blade S6 Plus has a multilingual firmware and supports a lot of languages just like German, English, Spanish, French… .
Unlike the normal ZTE Blade S6 the Plus version doesn’t support SmartGestures (I couldn’t find any settings) but on the other hand there is another launcher called „Family Mode“. With this launcher every icon is very big and so it is easier to handle for older people who are sick of the sight of small things.
Moreover ZTE has implemented a service with the name „ZTE AliveShare“. ZTE claims that it is 40 times faster than Bluetooth. With this App you can get connected to your friends, share e.g. pictures and play games against them. I wasn’t able to test it in depth because I’m the only one in my area with a ZTE smartphone.
There is no option to see the battery percentage preinstalled. You can easily fix this if you install the app „Battery Percent Enabler“ by kroegerama. After the installation you have to set a check mark and reboot the phone. Then you will see the battery percentage and you can delete the app without losing the notification.
Root
It is possible to root the ZTE Blade S6 Plus using the curren version of KingRoot (4.0.0.233).

Copy the downloaded .apk file to your phone, install the app, start it and click on "Root".
Audio
The sound quality is good and phone calls are clear as well on both sides of the line. Just like on the normal Blade S6, the Plus version has the little bump next to the loudspeaker as well. It really helps to improve the sound and the loudness if you lay the phone on its back while listening to music or watching a movie.
Notification LED
The ZTE Blade S6 Plus has a notification led in the form of the blue pulsating homebutton. It looks very nice and I like it more than the normal LEDs of the most phones.
Battery
The 3000mAh battery is non removable. It will always be hard to say if the stated value is real or fake because you can’t for example scale the weight of a built-in battery. The battery lasts very long and a screen-on time of more than five hours was unproblematically possible. Please don‘t forget that this really depends on the user behavior and can differ very hard from user to user. Maybe if you play games for a long time you only get three hours of screen-on time.

The ZTE Blade S6 Plus has a built-in IR-blaster on top of the phone. It performs vey well. I have tried it with the free app „Remote for Samsung TV“ from the PlayStore. Even long distances approximately 6m away from my television were no problem.
Radio
There is a radio preinstalled but you have to use headphones to be able to use it. It doesn’t support DRS.
Conclusion
All in all is the ZTE Blade S6 Plus a good looking phone, with great specifications and an outstanding reception of GPS, Wlan and networking. Everything works out of the box and all GoogleApps are preinstalled so that you can directly download tons of apps and games. The phone comes with the newest Android version (5.0.2 Lollipop) and until now I couldn‘t find any bugs or lags. Everything starts fast and reacts snappy. At the moment there is no working method to root this device. So if you definitely need root for some apps I give you the advice to wait a bit of time before you order (there is still no root for the normal Blade S6, too). The display and battery are good and the reception of GPS, Wlan are very good. I really like the IR-blaster but I see it as a gadget and will still use my normal remote. One thing that I can’t understand and where I really see potential for improvement are the large bezels around the display because they make the phone very big in comparison to other 5,5“ and especially to the new borderless smartphones like the Nubia Z9. An improvement would make the operation with one hand a lot easier.

Hey, very nice review.
Can you confirm, that shaking phone don't turn the LED on? I really like this gesture on my blade S6.
IR blaster is nice to use in pub, where is something ugly in TV you don't want to see
But for practical use I doubt about using it at home...Maybe if you lost your remote.

Do I have to change something in the settings before I test it?
With normal setting nothing happens when I shake the phone.

Settings - gestures & motions - turn on.
If you don't have this menu in settings, it is probably not supported.

This menu doesn't exist on the Plus model.

Firmware ZTZ_Blade_S6_Plus_B02 available for download since 26/05 rom ZTE Hong-Kong support.
For rooting B02 I used KingRoot-4.1.0.249-release-nolog-201505211812_105001.apk (previous one did not work) and then I used SuperSUme.zip making it easier to replace the Kingsroot against SuperSU.

hi, i have this phone its good but one thing i can not get to work is usb OTG. i have used 3 cables and 4 or 5 usb sticks all formated to different formats but to no use. all work fine on other android tablets or phones etc
any idears? thanks.

Today I was able to test OTG with a brand new cable.
I'm sorry but it doesn't work with my S6 Plus on StockRom B01.

In this review I will tell you the Pros & Cons about the Elephone Trunk. I will for sure not tell you that it is perfect! as I never have seen the perfect phone yet.
But for the price of 111 USD you get a really nice entry-level phone. And it does also have some surprising good things too! like the camera, build quality & UI speed!
This phone also has no stagefright vulnerability! So I believe it runs with true Android 5.1.1. The camera should be from Samsung, but unfortunately I could not verify this in any way, other than the camera does shoot some pretty good pictures.

I got mine white color.. and my wife is in love with it ..
Android 5.1.1 with Ele Ui interface and Rom of 10 September 2015.
Root currently not possible.
Battery 40g, and in the first measurement after shutdown (2000mAh say in line with the declaration):
GPS with glonass (8 of 14 satellites outside with clouds).
No OTG
Antutu 23000 points, but graphics Adreno 306 trudging in HD (3400 point in the test chart, as or slightly less than the Mali T720 of cpu mt6735p).
Good screen and brightness, there isn't the double tap to turn on the screen (double tap on the center button soft, you can choose to turn off a screen), but you can configure the volume keys to do wake up: D
The frames are not too thick and the total weight is about 140g:
Led white on middle button that reveals even the side dot.
Internal memory only one partition 10,7gb available.
2GB RAM with 1.2GB available on startup
good camera output quality and soof software for capture

Yeah I have tested it, didn't work for me I don't know if they could implement it with just software or if it is also something with the hardware...

Unboxing & Deep Review (Italian Language):
Review Elephone Trunk
Package, Content, Aesthetics:
The packaging is a pleasant surprise for the canons Elephone, white box with reason "floral" color from yellow to purple, the brand and model Elephone top Trunk moved to the multiplex on the right; the indications there are no indications about the characteristics of the smartphone, we find only the adhesive side with the two (IMEI could be a box no final product to be sold).
Box contents: Smartphone, 1 Power Adapter with USB socket Italian 5V 1A, 1 USB cable, 1 instruction manual in English. There are no screen protectors (the only 1 is applied) and there are no in ear headphones.
- External dimensions of the smartphone in line with other china phone 5 "; it measures 143 x 71.5 x 8.9 mm for just over 139g of weight.
- Construction of good quality, the use of relatively inexpensive materials.
The white model has received slightly turning to yellow, but a good impression.
- On the left side we find keys, and the right side we find the volume rocker on the top and the power button slightly lower.
- At the top we find the audio jack and the micro USB socket; on the underside of the microphone.
- In the back at the top center are slightly protruding from the camera 8 megapixel f / 2.2 (do not know if Samsung or Sony) (13 megapixels interpolated) and the LED flash, and the lower the speaker (unfortunately with a planar shape of the cover, the audio will be muffled with a minimum device on the table).
- In the front we find the earpiece at the top, the camera 2Mpixel f / 2.8 autofocus, LED flash and the light sensor / proximity.
- The keys have a soft touch white backlight fairly widespread and visible, the central circular shape, the side keys are simple dots; backlight / white LED does not seem to be associated with the arrival of notifications.
- Cover quite robust and with good joint with the body. The keys are on the cover, the finish is smooth, then a minimum slippery remains, we cannot see footprints because of the white color of our model.
- Screen with pre-applied film from the house which offers a good flowability and has a minimum of oleophobic treatment; there aren't more films in the package
- Display brightness is good, good viewing angle; HD IPS LCD screen with colors and sharpness well played good for the category.
- Touch-sensitive and comes with multitouch 5 touches, writing rapidly and with Swype function that you type with two fingers (keyboard used Google)
- Two sim slots: Both Micro Sim 4G (with dynamic selection software).
- Presence MicroSD slot with a capacity of 32Gb (I tested Samsung 64Gb and are properly recognized).
- Removable battery 2100mAh declared, to the test with amperomento, we found about 2000mAh; Geekbench test was not very positive, absolute, I expected more hours of screen instead maybe we are still a little rom and kernel optimized and standby power consumption is quite high.
- Android 5.1.1 with customization in icons and launcher Elephone UI (to be replaced immediately with something better like Nova, Apus, Cm Launcher).
- Open the app and switch between apps very quickly, stock browser with a few bumps as always (we recommend Chrome). Task manager by pressing and holding the center button and option to clear all apps.
- Excellent management 16Gb of internal ROM that are available in a partition to 11.7 GB for apps and data.
- Good management 2Gb ram by Android 5.1.1 .. more than 1.2GB of RAM free after loading some apps into memory at startup.
Connectivity:
WiFi b / g with no problem hooking stable, good power (not tested it in wifi dual band).
BT 4 tested pairing with headsets and car, no problems
OTG: NOT Working
GPS: fast enough, with cloudy sky outside has also fixed in 20 seconds 8 satellites (out of 14), with accuracy of 5 meters .. compatibility with satellites glonass.
Camera:
- Main camera Samsung 8Mpixel f / 2.2 (13Mpixel interpolated) that produces valid shots with daylight; good focus and flash of good power; camera interface optimized Qualcomm has many options; when using the flash or light conditions unfavorable, the quality of the shots falls but not overly, interesting seal at high ISO that allows to bring home click the "acceptable" even 1200 ISO.
- Sufficient video performance, slightly slow the focus and during the displacement along the axis of rotation, is present shuttering.
- Secondary camera for Selfie 2Mpixel with autofocus and face recognition, quality of the shots enough for video calls to some emergency selfie with good light.
Bench:
Antutu 5.7.1 over 23000 punti..risultato in line with that of other cpu quad core Snapdragon 410 1.2GHz.
Geekbench 3 with 1484 points in multi-core test and 490 in the single-core test.

Geekbench Battery Test (approximately 6 hours of screen on time, I would say not great for a real 2000mAh perhaps due to poor optimization kernel / rom).

Audio:
Good sound quality overall, good volume of speaker and earpiece.
Position of the speaker rear which happens to be unhappy if you usually place the device on the table and then playing Expect a loss of volume.
Good vibration and sound with headphones pretty good.
Conclusion:
PRO:
- Good quality of the screen has a resolution HD adequate to the class of the device, has a good brightness, good color and viewing angle of the display.
- Good assembly and product design, weight evenly distributed and good ergonomics.
- Price of about 100 € for a quad core CPU Snapdragon 410 2Gb Ram 16GB Rom, 2 SIM and Micro SD
- 4G bands 1,3,7,20 (then there is also the band 20 to 800Mhz essential especially with the wind)
- Dual SIM (both Micro SIM) and support up to 64Gb MicroSD least tested (declared support up to 32GB)
- GPS with Glonass
- Soft touch buttons illuminated with white light (at least in the white version of the phone)
- Android 5.1.1 practically stock of Sept. 2015
- Setting the device to wake from standby through the volume keys and turn off the display by double tap on key soft-touch center
AGAINST:
- The Adreno 306 graphics card hard with heavy games at HD resolution, however also titles like Asphalt 8 are still enjoyable without excessive sacrifice framerate
- Battery below expectations, 6 hours of screen with Geekbench could turn into about 3 hours with the backlight on using SIM and Internet traffic; definitely missing optimization software, there is still the possibility to enable the energy saving that seems only slightly affect performance.
- No No Compass and Gyroscope
- No support OTG
- No notification LED (illuminates the soft touch is not used for notifications)
- The keys to the screen though excellent, steal valuable space on the desktop and the keyboard while typing
- No cover or film since it is a brand new product
- Root currently not possible with the usual software tools.

so about 2050mAh , more or less as i have seen with my measurements..
today i used he phone with screen on and some operations fot 1h 20" and battery goes from 100 to 72%.. in this case i expect more than 4 hours SOT .. not really bad f
geekbench battery test i my sample, with brightness automatic, gave me about 6 h:

Maybe it gets better after more charging cycles.

Tjos trunk seems to be good..
From 27th up to now, with heavy use 2h yesterday and more than 3h today, battery lasting a lot!
6h screen on time, automatic brightness (half bar) and some viseos, surfing, music..
...

I think for the first time, that in normal use the battery last longer than during the geekbench battery test.
On the other phones testd, if i had 9 hours of screen on time in geekbench, during normal use, i had about 4/5 hours of screen on time.. Very strange and interesting too...

No quick charge for snapdragon 410, but is not a problem, because of a maximum of two hours and half to full charge

Doogee is a relatively new Chinese company, but has no difficulty with introducing innovations onto the mobile phone market through its products. Founded in early 2013, the company is yet to really develop a big fan base, but is quickly gathering attention with its merchandise offering excellent features in its price range. Every year smartphone market presents new models better than the year before for a lower price. This trend is also followed by small companies like Doogee, which has recently come out with its X5 Pro model.
You must be wondering what makes this model so special. Well, it offers amazing features for the price of only $85 – 5.0” display, 64-bit Quad-Core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, 2 cameras, 2400mAh battery and Android 5.1 Lollipop! You are interested, aren’t you? It’s OK, so am I.

Package content​Doogee X5 along with its accessories comes in a compact box, the design of which is simple, but quite interesting. On the top there is a light-reflecting “X5 Pro” mark, while on the bottom you can see phone’s most important features. On one of the sides of the box, there is a scratch sticker hiding the product authenticity verification code.
Upon opening the box on the side, you can pull out the content of the box – phone, charger, USB cable and short manual. A protective foil is already on the phone, so its new owner doesn’t have to go through the trouble of applying it himself.
The charger is standard, with a generic shape and specifications of 5V 700mA. However, it would surely be better if the manufacturer had provided a charger of at least 1A to shorten the charging period.
The USB cable given with the phone could be used for phone-PC data transfer as well as for charging – it is not limited only to the charging capacity.
The short manual covers the basics of Android OS use, and thus will be useful only to the beginners in the Android world.
The 2400mAh battery is already inside the phone when the buyer gets it, but before he starts using it, he needs to remove the protective foil off of it, as is specified on the box.
The absence of stereo headphones from the package implies that the manufacturer wanted to lower the price as much as possible, which will not bother most of new users, since they will already have headphones of their liking.
Appearance​Doogee X5 Pro has a simple design and the model we received for the purpose of this test is completely black (there is also a black-and-white combination). It is considered to be a phone of average thickness (8.2mm), but you can “feel” it in the hand because of its weight of as much as 130 grams. The battery cover takes most of the phone’s frame, thus in a way protecting it in case of falling on one of its edges.
On the top side of the phone there are connecting ports – a micro USB port (for charging, as well as PC and peripheral devices connection) and a 3.5mm audio connector for headphones.
On the right side there are buttons for sound control and turning the screen on and off. They are very sturdy, well responsive and have a distinguishable click, which makes us think they will endure usage for long period of time.
Microphone and speaker openings are on the bottom side of the phone. As far as sound is concerned, it is very loud and reproduced in satisfactory quality, so the phone can be clearly heard even if it is carried in its own case.
The biggest part of the front side is occupied by a 5.0” display. Even though there was available space for the control buttons to be on the screen itself, the manufacturer decided to place the capacitive buttons (Menu, Home and Back) below the screen. This is a better option for some users, since the entire screen is available at all times, while others will be asking why the buttons aren’t on the screen, since it will additionally make the phone smaller. Unfortunately, capacitive buttons aren’t backlit, which makes them hard to see and use in the dark.
Above the screen you can see the front 2Mpix camera, proximity and light sensors, as well as the speaker opening. In-call sound quality is clear and loud, even in the middle of the sound control bar.
The battery cover is smooth to the touch, but covered in rubber-like plastic in order to prevent slipping and allowing better handling of the phone. Perfectionists will be bothered by the fact that the phone will constantly be covered in finger prints, and so they will have to wipe it with a cloth regularly.
In the upper section of the phone there is a 5Mpix camera, not far from the flash LED. In addition, under that exact spot the Doogee logo is discretely, but clearly visible.
The battery cover is firmly attached to the front of the phone, so we advise careful removal so as not to damage the cover holders, although it is our opinion that they are flexible enough not to break quite so easily.
Upon cover removal you can see the blue 2400mAh battery, above which there are 2 SIM slots (both Micro-SIM sized), as well as the slot for a microSD memory card capacity up to 32GB. In order to access these slots, it is necessary to remove the battery from its setting.
The SIM slots are numbered 1 and 2, but that in no way determines which of the cards will be the primary one, since the user himself can choose which card to use for calling, messaging, surfing the mobile Internet (4G!), etc.
The phone’s surface looks impressive even though this is a budget phone. Yes, there are small traces of plastic injection near microUSB port opening and 3.5mm audio port, but it is barely noticeable and in no way diminishes the beauty of the phone. It is a pity that X5 Pro is missing the notification LED, since it would eliminate the need to turn the screen on in order to check for any missing calls or text messages.
Display​Doogee X5 Pro comes with IPS 5.0” display with 720p resolution (1280x720 pixels). This makes it a very good choice for a screen of this diagonal, because the pixel density is high enough so that the image is as clear as it can be expected although there are phones with much higher resolution on today’s market. We have secretly feared that colors would seem washed out while the visibility angles would be narrow, but that is not the case at all in X5 Pro. Color intensity is fairly good, whilst image rendition stays the same until viewing in extremely sharp angles. The manufacturer states that the phone comes with Gorilla Glass display protection, but it remains untested in that aspect.
Screen reacts to the touch very well and it’s responsive in 2 points at the same time, that’s enough for most uses, including playing games. The only problem we noticed it’s that it reacts a bit unprecise when fingers are too close to each other, that makes a pinch-to-zoom gesture a bit difficult.
Back lighting can be very intense, which makes the displayed content visible even in direct sun.
Software​What is interesting is that Doogee X5 Pro comes with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS, which means the phone is adorned with both good hardware and optimized software. Software appearance and its functions do not differ excessively from Google source code, although there are certain additional phone setting functions offering further possibilities.
Android 5.1 has finally brought dual SIM native support, so manufacturers have no need to create their own solution to the “problem” of selecting SIM cards in lie with each situation. When a SIM-using app is run (Dialer, Messaging, Hangouts, etc.), notification menu displays the possibility to choose which SIM card will be used at that point. It is also possible to predetermine the use for each card, further simplifying the entire process.
It is possible to turn on certain gestures to facilitate phone use, such as flipping the phone onto the screen in order to silence ringing, answering a call by lifting the phone a bit more quickly, or simply switching to speakerphone and back by bringing the phone closer to the ear.
What is more, the phone has the option of turning on with a double display touch (Double-tap to Wake), sliding down on the screen while turned off in order to quickly run the camera, or writing on the screen to run apps like dialer, Internet browser, Play store, messenger, etc.
The “Visitor mode” solves the problem many have been dealing with since the appearance of mobile phones – denying access to certain parts of the phone. By activating this particular mode, you can hide call lists, SMS messages, pictures and disable modification of main screens on the phone. This is an excellent option to activate before lending your phone to a friend. However, in order to turn this option on and off, you need to enter your PIN.
Similar effect can be achieved by means of “AppLock” app, which does exactly what its name indicates – locks apps, and provides access upon entering the PIN.
Moreover, the proximity sensor also has certain phone management functions. By waving your hand above the sensor, you can scroll pictures, shuffle songs, take photos, change pages in launcher, unlock the phone and answer a call. As to how smart of an idea this is, we will let you decide.
More advanced users will like the built-in option of controlling app permissions (Permission Manager), which means that any app can be simply revoked the permission to dial, send messages, read location, access contacts, use camera, etc.
All in all, Doogee X5 Pro has left a favorable impression as far as OS and additional apps are concerned. Thanks to Android 5.1 OS, animations are beautiful and fluid, transition between apps is fast (for which large RAM memory can be credited, 2GB) and there wasn’t even an instance of unexplainable lag. With basic preinstalled apps installed, only 500MB RAM is occupied, thus leaving a lot of space for installing and multitasking between large numbers of apps.
Camera​As previously stated, Doogee X5 Pro on its back has a 5Mpix camera (interpolated to 8Mpix) with very limited possibilities, while on the front it carries a 2.0Mpix camera for video chats.
The 5Mpix camera has autofocus, LED flash and makes 2560x1920 pixel pictures without interpolation.
Camera sensor possibilities are quite poor. While colors are good in the daylight, it lacks detail even while taking photos with a steady hand. Photos seem good on the screen, but when zoomed to their original size, there is a visible lack of sharpness and “oil-on-canvass” effect. Photos of closer objects are satisfactory in sharpness, but most landscapes make you want to give up the sport. This is quite a shame, since the camera software has interesting options such as automatic photographing by lifting 2 fingers in the shot, automatized following of an object and taking its picture, recording “live” (making a 5-second long video with a photographing effect) and the Face beauty mode, which removes skin imperfections and makes you more pretty (the fare sex loves this option in Samsung phones).

Battery Life​Doogee X5 Pro comes with a 2400mAh battery, which is enough capacity to allow the phone one-day autonomy with more intensive use. Seeing how the processor is economical and works on lower frequency, battery consumption is moderate. We have measured its autonomy by inserting 2 SIM cards into the phone (one in the 3G/4G mode and the other in the 2G mode) and running synthetic tests, making a few shorter phone calls (about 20 minutes in total), taking pictures outside for about an hour and a half (during which time mobile Internet was active), testing its speed of access to the 4G network, and then surfing the Internet using WiFi connection.
During all that, the screen was on for 4 hours and 30 minutes, while the phone was off the charger for 30 hours! We believe this to be an excellent score considering all this phone’s features.
Performance​Doogee X5 Pro is based on MediaTek MT6735 64-bit chipset which is increasingly present in lower-middle class models. MT6735 has a Quad-Core processor at 1GHz (988MHz, to be more precise), Mali-T720 graphic chip and 2GB of built-in RAM memory.
The processor is probably intentionally limited to lower frequency instead its maximum (1.3GHz) in order to provide a better battery autonomy, since it has proven to be quite economical and still powerful enough for most users’ needs. Judging by synthetic tests, MT6735 chipset at 1GHz frequency performs in the rank of Snapdragon 400 chipset and its Quad-Core processor, which is an excellent trait considering the price of X5 Pro phone.
It also has built-in USB OTG option, so it is possible to connect USB flash drive or USB mouse or keyboard directly to the phone using USB OTG adapter.
Obtaining GPS location on this phone is quick and precise, since it easily finds a large number of satellites and connects to most of them in 30 seconds. Therefore, it can definitely be used as GPS navigation with matching navigation software.
Benchmark tests results:
Conclusion​Doogee X5 Pro is a smart phone which has suddenly appeared on the market and attracted a lot of attention with its surreal hardware for a good price. Its IPS display with wide visibility angles and quality rendition will allow undisturbed use in all conditions, while its work speed will satisfy all less and moderately demanding users. If you want an affordable smartphone and you can look past a few smaller cons, there is no reason to be apprehensive – you should definitely take the X5 Pro model into consideration as best buy in the lower price range!

Could it be possible to overclock the CPU to 1.3 GHz when the device is rooted?
I saw one review (here) that had an Antutu benchmark of around 30000. It is an early review (August 30th), so perhaps it was an early demo phone that was clocked higher?

I think it can't be overclocked. Not with the stock kernel, anyway. To phone runs cool, even with the maximum CPU load (about 30C), so I do think the CPU has potential to withstand OC to ~1.2GHz, but there isn't a way at the moment.

As I detailed in this now closed thread, I am unable to get this phone to operate at anything faster than 2G network speeds. The specs of this phone would appear to keep it out of the 4G (or even 3G) range for AT&T in the USA, and indeed, most every other USA carrier I'm aware of. Such a sadness because this is really a nice phone at such a good price.

Ive had this phone for about 3 weeks now.
Its an awesome phone for the money.
Im not a fan of how branded companies charge huge profit margins like HTC and samsung.
This phone has all I need.
It has 3G and 4G LTE which work great in my country (New Zealand).
In fact the antenna is very strong compared to my old samsung.
The camera is fine for me at 5MP, the autofocus works well and ive been able to take some really nice pics, better than the ones in the review above. Closeups are excellent. If you hold down the shutter button you get something like 6 to 7 shots per second which are then saved as a progression of pics that are then viewable in gallery as a kind of gif animation with each frame been able to be used as a photo. Theres tons of features built in. I really like that no tweaking is needed out of the box.
I installed Hola launcher as I just like its style, its faster than stock launcher and organizes apps into easy folders and it has built in weather and intuitive interface that works really well with this phone.
Ive always bought phones with hardware buttons. I cant stand phones with on screen buttons. It just takes away from everything.
So much nicer having real buttons.
Im happy there is no notification LED. This used to annoy me on my samsung and my smart 4 especially at night time I dont like any flashing LEDS in my room when im sleeping.
Double tap to wake up is nice and also useful when i have it on my car bracket.
Only cons so far are that OTG doesnt seem to work currently. Im guessing the phone needs to be rooted to use that feature and as others have noted there doesnt appear to be an easy root method as yet.
its a shame it doesnt have gyro because my google cardboard isnt much use, but i guess i can still watch 3d movies with it.

OTG works fine for me. I'm just using a bog-standard OTG adapter and a FAT32-formatted USB thumbdrive.
I'm still looking forward to a working root though.

Ok maybe my home made OTG cable is the problem.. i just used my data cable with a female to female adaptor on the end.. mayb e that doesnt actually work?
[FIXED] used a correct OTG cable and its all working great! no need to root this phone for any reason now!

I had two updates applied from when I received my phone.

Good news, did you had to root again after update?

I rooted for the first time after applying all the updates. Only recently made sense of the rooting thread! Don't know if it'll create problems if there's another update, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

How did you do to root?
I have R08-2015.10.26 but I am unable to root (install supersu)
I followed the procedure of wireless update → select update.zip and click ok. When the phone reboot, it start the install but stops and show "error".

Except for the complete keyboard area of the keyboard base, in the upper right there are the caps lock and switch status indicator, which looks very intuitive, and the effect is very similar to using an ordinary notebook.
PIPO W1S has rich interfaces. At the left side, we can see the arrangement is very full, including a standard USB3.0 slot, an HDMI interface, Micro USB port, an earphone port and a recording port. The separate DC power supply is also a major advantage. Moreover, the whole thickness controlled within 1cm while providing a standard USB slot, it is worth praise.
Open shield baffles, there is a hidden TF card slot, the reserved position is for inserting SIM card, maybe it will launch 3G high version later.
Power and volume control bar are located on the left top corner of the fuselage, which matches daily using habit and have a better holding feel.
On both sides of the fuselage, there are speakers, putting effect performance is OK, but the sound is slightly sharp.
PIPO W1S Screen:
10.1 inch 1920 * 1200 pixels IPS panel offers excellent screen performance, whether color or viewing angles, it is basically impeccable. Compared to many low-end notebooks, apparently, the new product evolved from the tablet has more advantages.
PIPO W1S is equipped with genuine 64 Bit Windows10 OS, as we know, 64bit system can better support large memory, and will have a better performance in operating speed. Moreover, the Intel X5-Z8300 processor is also based on the 64bit instruction set, running a 64-bit system can be a complement to each other. However, many similar products on the market are pre-installed 32bit systems, apparently, PIPO done a better job in this. This product can be properly identified the 4GB large memory.
C disk is the storage that comes with system, total of 64GB capacity, except the hidden and invisible part that system has taken, there are more than 45GB can be self-managed, which is considered to be more adequate, not only can store daily applications, but also can load some other games.
Next let's look at the W1S specific hardware information. It adopts Intel Cherry Trail Atom x5-Z8300 processor with four nuclear & four-thread design, and the same 14nm process as Intel Core M processor, default frequency 1.44GHz, which can reach up to 1.84GHz. Consumes only 2W, will save more energy than the previous generation of Intel Bay Trail processor.
315 scores for 3DMark11 graphics test, the smae level with the same program products, nearly half of Core M program model score, while is around 1.5 times of the Intel Bay Trail tablet.
Pipo W1S provides PDF user manual, which is directly put on the desktop, double-click and it can be opened.
It can easily play 1080P online vide without Caton phenomenon, of course, this requires a fast network support. The WiFi reception capacity of the machine is relatively common, you'd better use it with the router at the same time in order to ensure the fluency for watching HD online videos.
Also support some larger touch screen games smoothly, no pressure for running
W1S has dual cameras, 200W pixel front camera + 500W pixel rear main camera. The following figure is a sample of the rear camera, and the camera size is 2560 * 1440 pixels, while the image is common.
As for the power consumption, when running temperature stress test, CPU temperature exceeds 80 degrees, the temperature of the CPU overheating protection is 90 degrees, but the hottest surface temperature is 42 degrees at this time, which is not too hot. Then is the endurance performance, it will be affected by different applications. W1S owns a 3.7V / 6800mAh capacity lithium battery. After fully charged, from 10:00am to 13:50pm power exhausted for playing 1080P video , it lasts nearly four hours, performance is law-abiding.
Verdict:
The overall performance of the PIPO W1S is similar to the products with same program. However, due to the larger 4GB memory and 64-bit system, the performance has improved. Innovative shaft design enriched its usefulness, which can be used as a notebook computer. Last but not the least, the perfect interfaces is also worthy of recognition.

I've just picked up one of these from Gearbest, dual OS version. Parcel seemed undamaged but box inside the packaging was a bit crunched which is odd as the packaging was good - I can only guess it was damaged before packaging. Apart from that it's working fine. First impressions - screen is really nice; keyboard is a chiclet, bit plasticky but the keys are well raised although some are an odd size, eg huge left shift and caps lock. Metal back of the tablet itself feels high quality although strangely huge logos on the back. I ordered black and the box stated black but I received blue - no biggie. PSU looks like a fire waiting to happen - I won't leave it unattended whilst charging as it gets super hot and I will be getting a better PSU from Maplin asap. It's a tiny PSU but it gets so hot it's unreal. So does the tablet whilst charging.
On power up you choose Windows 10 or Android. Android booted cleanly and seemed responsive enough; to switch into Windows mode you hold down the power key and 'Boot into Windows' is one of the options - nicely done, cleaner than the separate 'Boot to Windows app' on the Teclast X89 for example. I'll be doing more testing this weekend hopefully but I'm open to specific questions.

Update - after letting Windows 10 do all it's updates, the touchscreen has developed a kind of schizophrenia. Sometimes it works, sometimes the inputs register incorrectly, mirrored across the horizontal centre of the screen. Driver hunt continues.

Mariom: Are you suggesting that Windows10 should not be permitted to complete any updates as this will cause an issue with the OS? On the Gearbest website there was a notice that indicated no modifications or upgrades to the OS were to be undertaken. Did they mean that Windows10 was not to install updates to the W1S? I have the 2GB/32GB version of this tablet. Thanks.

I suspect it's the dreaded 1511 update which broke my drivers. I have now downloaded the Pipo W1S support package (about 11 700mb zip files which need to be combined) but haven't had time to experiment further. It might even be a restore image. I would suggest that if you can't risk the touchscreen not working, be careful with your updates or perhaps take a drive image, switch on system restore etc etc. I can tell you that the Android part is still working fine so it's not a hw fault.

Update - there seems to be a new version of the BIOS and the Windows 10 image dated 20th June 2016 on the Pipo website. http://www.pipo.cn/En/index.php?m=Product&a=show4&type=2&id=395
The webpage shows 2016-05-10 but the actual Baidu directory contains different fresher files I think. Time for the slow download to commence.

So I have downloaded the stuff and tried the bios and android update went as expected. the windows update however has been unsuccessful, says the recovery partition is damaged and wont boot into the setup.
any suggestions would be grateful. working on alternatives as we speak.

My download hasn't completed yet, of the Windows image file from the 20160624 directory. I think they go together but haven't tried. Did you follow any documentation for the update? There is a chinese PDF there which can be translated with Google (with mixed success). I'm glad your Android part is working - any differences?

There are 11 files for the Windows 10 image (10 x 700mb, 1 x 396.8mb), one for the BIOS and one for the PDF in Chinese.
*Warning*: I scanned the extracted Windows 10 files and a virus was detected in one of the test tools. I only use Bitdefender so it may be a false positive - please make sure you scan it before using it for your own satisfaction. I have not changed the Pipo original files at all.

Apart from this, does anyone have a problem with battery discharging? I put mine in my bag fully charged on Monday and didn't use it once. It's already dead on Friday morning.

Your aparts. My unique problem with battery, is in charging, the plug is aparently near on "fire". To mutch hot. In other hands, my battery charging acording expected and fortunatly, i have not problems, Yet...

De acuerdo! The power supply gets really hot. I will only plug in the tablet to charge if I am present in the room, otherwise I worry about a fire. I intend to buy a new charger from a UK electronics shop when I get the time.

Update - I've now flashed the BIOS update (the 1_ version not the 0_ version as I have the 4Gb model) and it seemed to work fine. I haven't loaded the Windows 10 updated image yet as my existing Windows install is still working ok. However the Android partition just sits on the android loading logo (big white/silver word 'android' anim). I'll investigate further later but am a little worried as there's no Android update files available to reflash yet :-/ . Still, can't make omelettes without breaking eggs...

Further update - there is in fact an Android update there, but it's the original one from 4th May '16. I will download it and put it with the other files (it's 1.9Gb so might take some time).

Only: at this time i can´t find a twrp-Recovery, a proved tool to root it, also i´ve found no stock rom for it.
But its a very amazing phone, no lags, perfect GPS, WIFI, Camera is - for the price - amazing. Display is nearly perfect.

Yeah, i agree.
I'm trying to build twrp from stock rom (extracted, but incomplete).
Stock rom is in proprietary format, available using google and search for infocus m808 stock rom.
Btw is not possible to enter t stock recovery with keys at boot, so twrp may be useless also if i could compile it.
I have to test with adb command to enter recovery.. I will update soon

Eh eh, clever guy!
I have ordered one of this, should arrive in a few days, then i try it.
Normally, for mtk phones i use this procedure... i root the phone with tools like root genius or similar then i make backup with sp flash tool.
After this i replace the backed up recovery with the founded one .
Obviously that procedure won't work if cannot root the phone (but for now it always worked for several times and several phones).
I'll let you know when phone comes.

TWRP mentioned before works, but it's in chinese (better than nothing). I successfully flashed it and root package (works too).
I cannot make backup because mtk droid tools doesn't work with 64 bit mediateks so i don't feel confident to flash whole rom (brick).
Ah, to enter in recovery must connect charge cable and press power+ vol+.

Review Infocus V5 M808/M560
Package, Content, Aesthetics
The packaging is a classic white parallelepiped but that even minimal reports the nice Infocus mark on the front and the characteristics of the V5 on the back.
Box contents: Smartphone wrapped in its protective plastic, 1 Power Adapter with USB socket US 5V 1A White, 1 USB cable, a small instruction manual, a clip for sim compartment extraction and EU plug adapter.
- External dimensions of the smartphone in the middle of the 5.2 "screen with buttons; it measures 147.5 x 73 x 7.5 mm for a little over weight 150g.
- High-quality construction, the materials are able to give a good feeling to the touch, the aluminum body looks good quality and treatment, nice finishes and especially the back (partly resembles the nexus 6p and partly for Iphone 6 ) ..
- On the left side we find the volume rocker down and the power button slightly higher; on the right side we find the buggy for the two sim (1 or 2 Micro SIM Micro Sim Micro SD).
- On the upper side we find the audio jack on the bottom we find the micro USB socket, the main microphone and the speaker in the right (the left has a slit but no speaker inside).
- In the back in a tight top on the left we find the camera 13 megapixel f / 2 Omnivision OV13850 f / 2 on the side accompanied by LED flash and moments from the second microphone for noise suppression.
- On the front we find at the top the capsule headset, the camera 5Mpixel f / 2.8 Omnivision OV5670, the RGB notification LED and the brightness / proximity sensors.
- The soft touch buttons around the screen and are customizable by location and notifications button added into the phenomena settings.
- Outer pane that is not equipped with pre-applied film, excellent smoothness of the glass, there are no treatments 2.5d on the edges and there is a minimal treatment oleophobic (not excellent, but at least it shows).
- Display brightness and good viewing angles; LCD Full HD IPS screen which gives a very good colors, excellent sharpness for the category, good white balance even if it prefers shade slightly cool shades; you can still operate via the display menu to retouch certain parameters and to activate or not the function to eliminate the blue radiation of the screens through variation of color tones.
- Touch excellent and comes with multitouch to 10 touches, quick writing and with Swype function that typing with two fingers (used keyboard SwiftKey 6)
- Two Nano Sim slot: This 4G with bands 1,3,7 ... it lacks the 800Mhz band 20 widely used in Italy!
- Presence separate MicroSD slot with head capacity up to 128Gb.
- Battery is not removable from 2450mAh declared, to the test with ammeter we found about 2400mAh, which allow coverage of the day without any problems.
- Android 5.1 with stock rom December 2015.
- Open app and switching between apps very quickly .. Chrome browser pre-installed which is very satisfying to use and that makes navigation very fast.
- Fair management of internal rom 16Gb which are available in a partition to 10.8Gb for apps and data; in this case the system partition from over 3Gb removes available space for the App, which however in the presence of SD may be moved, where permitted, on the micro sd.
- Good management 2Gb ram by the system .. Approximately 1.2GB of RAM left over after loading some apps into memory at startup.
Connectivity:
WiFi b / g / n with no problem, stable coupling, good power and a preliminary check appears to present the 5Ghz band (I could not try with my modem, since it does not support it).
BT 4 tested coupling with headphones, smartwatch, car and other smartphones without problems
OTG: Fully Working
GPS: very good, the outside is cold fixato in 15 seconds, 18 satellites, with an accuracy of a few meters; Glonass compatibility
Camera:
- Main camera Omnivision 13Mpixel f / 2 that produces good shots in daylight; good focus; camera interface stock mediatek with some graphical changes to the snap buttons and video, but it does not change much ... if you want you can rely on Google apps such as Camera or the great paid app FV-5 Chamber.
- Good video performance with FullHD file with 3GP and MP4 format with room stock with other cameras
- Second Camera for Selfies 5Mpixel f / 2.4 with autofocus and face detection function, shots and decent video.

Good sound quality, good the speaker volume and earbud, the other party has no problem and feel the item is free from noise or interference or metallic effect, excellent implementation of the NXP Smart Amp sound module devoted to improving the audio quality general.
Good also the second microphone to suppress environmental noises when using smartphone in noisy environments.
the speaker position that does not suffer from sound attenuation problems if we usually place the smartphone on the table.
Good vibrations and sound in the headphones, FM radio with RDS properly implemented.
Conclusion:
Pros:
- Exceptional price of about € 100 from China and 130 € for a dall'Europs Octa Core 5.2 "FHD 2Gb ram and 16Gb quality rom.
- Two real Nano Sim slot.
- Ram 2Gb with over 1.2GB free and Roma with free 10,8Gb, fluid system and snappy, very high speed for the internal memory> 130MB / sec.
- Very good FHD display, good color and viewing angle .. tending to slightly cooler colors but also the display optimization also with various settings for the elimination of blue light emitted from the smartphone panels !.
- Great and responsive touch with 10 points defined.
- Good signal reception and excellent audio sector, much higher than the average of cinafonini .. and considered the price .. even more to report !.
- Led RGB notification.
- Good Omnivision camera 13mp OV13850 f / 2 offering good shots of the day; can definitely improve using other camera app.
- Not bad also the front 5Mpixel 5MP camera OV5670.
- Great design, as well as very thin and quite ergonomic.
- Great audio segment with two microphones and good call quality, much higher than the average of cinafonini .. and considered the price .. even more to report !.
- Volume ringtones, media and separate notifications .. great plus
- GPS with GLONASS, very precise and fast in engaging, Compass and Gyroscope present .. amazing supplied if we think of belonging end !.
- Permission management app, whitelist app in the background, dialers with blacklists and ringtones separate settings for each sim!
- Excellent speaker position if you listen to music with the phone resting on a desk.
- Radio FM.
- Micro SD support up to 128b (tested) with ability to set the same for app navigation.
- Root already possible with TWRP recovery already available.
Cons:
- Lack of band 20 to 800Mhz on 4G .. which cripples much of the smartphone in Italy, as well as Wind (for which it is crucial the band 20 to 800 MHz for 4G) other professionals in various areas of Italy use this band for the 4G connection. You could always go to 3G everywhere, but it should be reported as a weak point.
- Parts of the menu and basic applications in English language (nothing insurmountable anyway)
- Instead of single stereo speaker (there are two openings, but only the right one is with the speaker)
- All physical buttons on the left side (not like on that side, I find them uncomfortable).
- Soft keys touch screen that obviously take useful space.
- Lack of double tap to turn on the screen and gestures to screen off.
- Power supply and charging circuit not quick charge .. the power supply is 1A / h and it takes about 3 hours from 0 to 100% (off).
- Battery is not removable.
- EU plug adapter supplied by the shop and as always, proves very cheap and dancer (I recommend to insulate it well to US plug so that solidarity remains when switched on and off the socket).

NOTE: The scatter file is Handmade by me and is not a factory one as I have not seen one yet!! Not all of partitions for Readback have been tested although boot.img recovery.img and system.img all work fine which should be enough to get most out of trouble. :laugh: Use the attached scatter file

For the scatter file, i extracted original one from stock rom and you can find it in my twrp 2.8.7 porting in the first post.

Just for info:
I sent an email to Infocus support asking about 5ghz wifi and LTE Band 20 and this is their very short reply.

m808 does not support the WIFI 5g, does not support LTE Band 20 (800mhz) Thank you.

As we know CPU does support Dual Band WiFi 2.4ghz and 5ghz also LTE Band 20 so It seems likely it's a licensing issue rather than a hardware one.
Although Many on this SoC do report Wifi issues so maybe infocus dropped the 5ghz for stability.
I will do some more research and ask them for the Kernel source code.

Hi guys. I was wondering here, can anybody port MIUI 7 to the InFocus M560? I found a GUIDE here in XDA Developers, but it looks very hard to do the process.
