I have installed Google Play on my Fire following the instructions on You Tube -
The normal four files as per Dylans Tech video
Now I get a pop-up asking me to update the Dictionary.
However, I can find no mention of this in Settings, not there !
I did read that on an Amazon Kindle it gives no facility to add/delete words to this dictionary. Is the the same with the Fire ?
Any ideas how I can get rid of this Dictionary update message, as it appears each time I power up, very annoying.
Solved
Go to:
Settings
Language and settings
Select keyboard
Keyboard settings
Personal dictionary
Under the English language option it will read something like " download waiting to update dictionary"

how to get chinese input in android? I am new to android.
I just downloaded google input IME from market place and installed, it is enabled in settings(languages), but keyboard did not change in messages and browser input. why?
any other apps will work?
The default way to change input method has been changed in ICS. Instead of long pressing at any text entry field, In ICS you will see a small keyboard icon in the left corner from the status bar when the keyboard shows up, then you can pull the status bar down and change the input method from there.
Google Pinyin IME is average. Some better options are sogou input and touchpal input. Sogou does not support ICS at this moment. But touchpal V5 works flawlessly.
I actually set default keybord to google pinyin, but then I cannot enable default english keyboard. what if I want to try other chinese keyboard? is there a way to enable multiple keyboard?
What if I want stock ICS keyboard to have Chinese? Any way I can do that?
I really like the stock keyboard and I don't want to use third party keyboard if at all possible
Also looking for this option....Surely there must be a way to switch to hand written chinese input via the stock ICS keyboard right ??? I realise that 3rd party apps are available but they are all terrible IMHO. Looking for something similar to how iPhone handles Chinese input....any ideas / suggestions ?
i'm using penpower, it not made for ics, as the writing pad does not fit the whole bottom half of the screen, but it works.
updated, just installed the ics version.
google voice input is the best. i use HK traditional.

touchpal is good too. they got chinese pack and handwriting pack.
go to System Setting > Language & keyboard > System Language. Then, scroll down and check PinYin option. You can choose handwriting too.
Later, when you're at a text box you will can toggle between English and Chinese using a "EN" key at left side of your spacebar.

[HOW TO] show “Voice Input and Output” settings page from application in Kindle Fire?
I want to have "Text To Speech" function in Kindle Fire. I found the TTS can set in Voice Input and Output” settings page, but I didn't find this setting page in my Kindle Fire.
I got some hints from the following links to set it, but I don't know how to editor the xml. Anyone know? Anyone can help?
I think the xml file should be here /system/app/Settings.apk --> \res\xml\settings.xml

Who can enable Text to Speech feature in kindle fire?
I'm gonna bump this, because it seems like this should be easy enough to do. Is there any way to access those settings at all, preferably through a GUI but will take options that involve inserting into the settings.db.
Hi all,
I am trying to build my first (Senseless) ROM. And for nof I got pretty far. I have one "problem" yet to solve.
It has something to do with the "Word Prediction / Input Method" and Language screens.
My native language is Dutch. As posted in the screenshots below, you can see it
My question is as follow.
The first screenshot is the "Sndroid Settings Screen" and it is perfectly in Dutch language.
The second screenshot is the "Language & Keyboard" screen in the settings screen. Here it becomes strange, The second option is "Touch input" which you should think als had to be in dutch language. Only the description field is dutch...
The third screenshot is the "Tochs Input" submenu and is in fully english language. Before I "overupload" screenshots all those settings are in dutch input method.
Now it gets more strange!
The fourth screenshot is "typing a message" and the word prediction is in english. I can't get the system put on the dutch word prediction list.
Everything else is in dutch... (or any language you want).
To make the question short...
What files, or which settings have influence on the language system? I loked closely to A LOT of settings in the rom, but I cant find it.
Maybe a fresh look or suggestion may help me in the good direction. I am seeking too much, therefore I may overlook some settings.
Thanks in advance for any answer
I couldn't find anything on this topic anywhere and I am posting this:
On my HTC One X I am using the original HTC keyboard with 2 languages which I switch between - English and Bulgarian.
The problem is when I want to use the voice typing option and dictate to the phone. It always chooses the English dictation language, no matter if I am pressing the voice typing button from the Bulgarian keyboard.
If I want to dictate in Bulgarian, I have to manually change the language from "select dictation language" dialog from English to Bulgarian every time!
I made different tries in the options:
1. Automatic - the phone chooses English even while using the Bulgarian keyboard
2. Non Automatic mode, but both English and Bulgarian languages checked in the selection list - chooses again only English
I suppose/expect that choosing Automatic mode for dictation language must check which keyboard is used at the moment and use the voice typing language matching the keyboard. At least other software I use do this.
Anybody has the same experience?
If anybody has an idea why it happens and how to fix this I would appreciate an advise and help.
Or may be I am doing something wrong in the settings and I hope to get directions. Thanks in advance!
Anybody?...

Actually it works very well when dictating in Bulgarian. I am using it and it works just as well as in English. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised.
I only need the device to change dictation language automatically according to which keyboard language is currently active. If English layout of the keyboard is active it means I am now typing in English. Therefore if/when I press the microphone (dictate) button it should offer me to dictate in English. If I am typing in Bulgarian it should offer me to dictate in Bulgarian.
same here
I took some time today and figured this out. Here's what I did.
1) Navigate to Seetings > Language & Keyboard > Google Voice Typing
2) Disable automatic and individually select each/all language(s) you want to use during voice typing (i.e. dictation)
3) When you go to dictate a text and after you click on the voice/microphone button, you will see the 'microphone in a circle' icon, right above that there is some text with a half arrow, i.e. "English (US)". Click on the half arrow and the languages you checked on step 2 are listed and available to select. Pick whichever one you want and start talking.
Also, a customer support rep had previously walked me through turning on "Personalized recognition" and installing the "Offline speech recognition" package for Spanish. That actually helped a lot with the accuracy of the voice-to-text typing and commands in English and Spanish.
So, is it just my phone, or is everyone else completely lacking a personal dictionary? There is no dictionary in the settings or LG keyboard settings, and even if you install the stock Google keyboard from the play store, there is no where to add words/shortcuts. Is this right? Cause that's pretty horrific that LG disables the Google keyboard dictionary/shortcuts and provides none of its own for you to add words.
PS, I know I can type in the word and click add, but there's still no place to add shortcuts, and no way to manage the words individually. I even have dictionary sync enabled in the latest Google Keyboard, but with no dictionary on the phone, it does absolutely nothing.
Click on word suggestions if it's checked.
LG Dictionary
You also need to click on the text of Suggestions to see the dictionary. However, when you open the dictionary, you still won't be able to create shortcuts. That function is blocked.
I'm not sure about the LG Keyboard (as I've uninstalled it on my phone) but, if you install the Google Keyboard, you can go to Settings>Language & Input. Next, click on the settings button for Google Keyboard and go to Text Correction. There you will find the Personal Dictionary and options to add shortcuts.
Hope this helps.
You can create a shortcut to the user dictionary for the LG keyboard using quickshortcutmaker. You can also use Google keyboard to make entries in the user dictionary with shortcuts that will then work with the LG keyboard.
It's now under Settings > Language & Imput > (your keyboard name ie: LG Keyboard) > Word Suggestions > Personal Dictionary
