[REQUEST] [SM-A720F] Stock Oreo kernel image - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Could someone please provide the stock Oreo kernel for the SM-A720F, in IMG format (flashable in TWRP)? Alternatively, does anyone know how to extract it from the original firmware package? In that case, I can do it and share here for others. Thanks!

Extracting "boot.img" from stock firmware isn't too hard.
1. Download your firmware on a desktop.
2. Extract AP.
3. Using 7 ZIP modded extract "boot.img.lz4" from AP.
4. Open "boot.img.lz4" with the same app and extract "boot.img". Then flash it into TWRP.
I hope that helped!

Thank you! Precise and straight to the point, worked like a charm!
As promised, to others who might be interested, find below the stock Oreo boot.img for the SM-A720F (A720FXXU3CRD3):
Mega - A720FXXU3CRD3_boot.img.zip
Obs.: this is not a flashable ZIP, I may update this post later if I make one; nevertheless, the plain IMG file should be flashable in TWRP as it is.

[Q] Flash Stock Firmware TWRP

I'm trying to flash back to the Stock firmware with TWRP. I have the zip file on my SD card but when I try to flash it is reporting that it is unable to open the zip. I confirmed that the file is downloaded correctly and not corrupt as I am able to access/extract it on my PC without issue. Any ideas on how to get past this?
Its probobly an ODIN zip not a CWM zip. Extract the zip and if it has a .pda in it then you have to use ODIN on your PC

An MD5 is just an integrity check file. What is the name of the zip and where did you get it?

The name of the Zip file is
SGH-I317_ATT_I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4.zip
I downloaded it from a couple locations that listed it as the stock AT&T firmware for this phone. Each location same error.

Im pretty sure that the one you downloaded is just zipped factory firmware and not flashable zip. You will need to extract tar file inside if there is one and flash Via Odin. If you are using it for att there is one that you can flash via twrp from link below.

Ah thanks for the help, I think thats my problem. Testing with the link you provided. Thanks.
I wonder why we see a lot of people asking questions here about install errors from files they got at some random (and often unheard of) sites around the Internet? Don't people know that xda has all the files they could need?

[Q] How do you make a system.img from firmware zip

Problem: We can download the firmware from Asus in the form of a zip file. We can use adb sideload <firmware>.zip to sideload the firmware.
Request: How can I flash that firmware using fastboot? It looks like I need to use a .img file. How do I convert that .zip file to a .img file?
Reason: I found a situation where using the sideload method didn't seem to work correctly. I ended up having to get a pre-rooted .img and flashed that, but I want a "virgin" img file. Thanks.
If you install zip from ASUS download site (not OTA!) then you will get virgin stock ROM after update.
This kind of update (around 1GB) erases system partition before install, so it doesn't matter how hard you've modified previous firmware. SU, Xposed, etc - everything will be automatically wiped before install.
The question is how do you convert .zip to .img?

tools to build img from zip (only full ROM, not OTA) published there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
But keep in mind, it's for advanced users. I would say, for developers.
Thanks. I asked that nice feller if he was able to do such a thing as I'm not a dev or even well-versed in Linux.
What firmware zip are you looking to flash?
flashing system.img was just temporary solution, as the only way to root or modify firmware before bootloader unlock.
With unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you can modify update.zip as much as you want and then install it.
Even if you don't want to unlock the bootloader, then you can use temporary custom recovery and install any modified zip.
So, in general you don't need to create system.img anymore. Just use zip to install whatever you want.

^ That's exactly why I was asking. I can put together whatever zip if they know what they want flashed. :good:

Hi,
can you make system.img, pre-rooted or not, like @shakalaca?
I tried but I haven't enough knowledge to do, though I tried to install a ghitub, etc, etc.
I would like to download the system.img fro last firmware, Z00A-WW.2.19.40.22.
Thanks

Need recovery.img 2.20.40.196 for Z00A/ZE551ML

Hi guys, i need the recovery.img file as indicated on the subject. I installed twrp without backing-up first the recovery.
I do not want to install the full stock rom to get this recovery version back, so if anyone could help me out with this file, i really appreciate it.
thanks once again for the help!
Hi.
You will need to download the stock ROM zip files for your phone's model and check for droidboot.img file in it. That is the recovery file for stock ROM.

Hope you read this on time.
droidboot.img in not the recovery image, is the bootloader image (so don't flash as recovery.img) and even more, you won't find the .196 recovery image inside the stock Rom.
https://mega.nz/#!gcBSSapa!cIyweU7vMV6940B2MD17hvklYT4IidMaMOa7L46LcsQ
This is a zip package that you can install using TWRP to flash the .196 stock recovery, or you can unzip the file and you will have the recovery.img file inside, so you can use it as a backup, to flash in fastboot mode or using TWRP for install as image file instead of zip package.

There you have all the recovery files
https://yadi.sk/d/t-za9JiGmZPuw/Recovery Z00A
You can have the recovery files, that yes, are included in the RAW firmwares (just unzip the RAW file).
In other way and if you know how (I don't know, I tried but no succes http://23pin.logdown.com/posts/222680-build-zenfone-recovery-image-from-bootimg), is built the recovery.img using/paching the boot.img image and the files included in /recovery folder inside the stock ROM package.

You can find the recovery bitstream image (named recovery_sign.bin) inside the corresponding RAW file (which basically is a ZIP file).
The .196 one is here: https://yadi.sk/d/FijRoAVJtvRiG/WW_ZE551ML_2.20.40.196_20160815.raw
I'm looking for the .198 recovery.img, but haven't any success with the raw file for that version.
Could I flash a previous version of the recovery above an existing system, without reflashing it ?
Successfully unlocked bootloader, I lost my recovery by flashing a wrong TWRP and now I haven't the recovery at all.
Could you please suggest a way to reset it to stock ?
Thanks a lot

Thank you for the url.
I previously flashed the lower version of recovery and was unsuccessful. I think it doesn't work that way.
It's better to reflash completely from raw brings back to stock.
Then as you know you can unlock the bootloader, flash twrp recovery, and any custom rom like Borets ROM.

How to install recovery stock images

hey happy new year guys i searched alot but no luck , i downloaded recovery stock rom 10.0.17.0 from here
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/daisy/roms-global-stable/
but when i try to flash it from recovery i get an error what is proper way to install it (knowing that i'm on 10.0.3.0 ) please asap ??
If I'm not mistaken, I think that the link you provided is to a file that will contain a payload.bin, which would also need to be extracted. Maybe try from this link and extract the tgz & tar file to gain access to flash_all.bat/images.
I also had errors trying to flash the image as well but the path to the flash file was long (N:\Android\Xiaomi\Images\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2). When I simply moved the folder to the N drive it worked beautifully (N:\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2).
Hope that helps & good luck!

To install that, maybe TWRP can do it?
Else you will need to extract the images from payload.bin (use payload dumper) and flash each image using fastboot.
Probably flash them to the other slot and then change active slot. But you won't need to do that since you're flashing from fastboot.

I followed this using offain's TWRP. Rather than pushing the files with adb, I had them loaded on my sd card. Just follow the guide & you'll be good.

Root on SM-G985F S20+ 4G Breaks Camera ?

Good Hello Everyone,
I rooted my SM-G985F but the camera stopped working and I don't know what caused it! Some users report theirs is working. Can you help me narrow it down or even fix this issue?
I patched AP TBM with MAGISK 72f6770d and then with 7z, I replaced the kernel with this one flashed all files in odin. And it seems like I have root, although only magisk modules worked so far from what I tested like @geiti94 said because of limitations of only read. Yeah only downside for me, I can't use the camera.
Did I used a old version of Magisk?
Did I replaced the kernel the wrong way?
Is it because my device is 4G?
thanks for help.
its because you used a kernel from another phone model.
instead, extract "virgin" boot.img.lz4 from ap file, tar it up and send to phone, patch in magisk and flash from odin.

Oh Dude someone replied! Should I do it like this:
extract with 7z or RAR the boot.img file from a clean/stock AP file.
tar it up? What does that mean? just change the file extension? Just renaming it? Or is a different process?
and then just the boot.img via odin in AP slot or whole firmware?
sorry I know many noob questions...
But thanks so far.
