hey happy new year guys i searched alot but no luck , i downloaded recovery stock rom 10.0.17.0 from here
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/daisy/roms-global-stable/
but when i try to flash it from recovery i get an error what is proper way to install it (knowing that i'm on 10.0.3.0 ) please asap ??
If I'm not mistaken, I think that the link you provided is to a file that will contain a payload.bin, which would also need to be extracted. Maybe try from this link and extract the tgz & tar file to gain access to flash_all.bat/images.
I also had errors trying to flash the image as well but the path to the flash file was long (N:\Android\Xiaomi\Images\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2). When I simply moved the folder to the N drive it worked beautifully (N:\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2).
Hope that helps & good luck!

To install that, maybe TWRP can do it?
Else you will need to extract the images from payload.bin (use payload dumper) and flash each image using fastboot.
Probably flash them to the other slot and then change active slot. But you won't need to do that since you're flashing from fastboot.

I followed this using offain's TWRP. Rather than pushing the files with adb, I had them loaded on my sd card. Just follow the guide & you'll be good.

I modified a TWRP installer with this CWM. Replaced TWRP with CWM on my E986 and it works. Updated adb.exe to work with 4.4.
To install just extract the zip contents and run the batch file.

No, you can't flash those files, but if you want to update CWM, why don't you install Philz recovery for the e980, it is great.

I have a e986 german with Stock 20a EU 4.4.2
If I installed cwm it gives me a boot loop into recovery. So I must install my rom via kdz tool and so I have no recovery yet. I found no way to flash a working recovery and unlock bootloader for my phone.

I have send you a PM.
Problem: We can download the firmware from Asus in the form of a zip file. We can use adb sideload <firmware>.zip to sideload the firmware.
Request: How can I flash that firmware using fastboot? It looks like I need to use a .img file. How do I convert that .zip file to a .img file?
Reason: I found a situation where using the sideload method didn't seem to work correctly. I ended up having to get a pre-rooted .img and flashed that, but I want a "virgin" img file. Thanks.
If you install zip from ASUS download site (not OTA!) then you will get virgin stock ROM after update.
This kind of update (around 1GB) erases system partition before install, so it doesn't matter how hard you've modified previous firmware. SU, Xposed, etc - everything will be automatically wiped before install.
The question is how do you convert .zip to .img?

tools to build img from zip (only full ROM, not OTA) published there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
But keep in mind, it's for advanced users. I would say, for developers.
Thanks. I asked that nice feller if he was able to do such a thing as I'm not a dev or even well-versed in Linux.
What firmware zip are you looking to flash?
flashing system.img was just temporary solution, as the only way to root or modify firmware before bootloader unlock.
With unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you can modify update.zip as much as you want and then install it.
Even if you don't want to unlock the bootloader, then you can use temporary custom recovery and install any modified zip.
So, in general you don't need to create system.img anymore. Just use zip to install whatever you want.

You will need to download the stock ROM zip files for your phone's model and check for droidboot.img file in it. That is the recovery file for stock ROM.

droidboot.img in not the recovery image, is the bootloader image (so don't flash as recovery.img) and even more, you won't find the .196 recovery image inside the stock Rom.
https://mega.nz/#!gcBSSapa!cIyweU7vMV6940B2MD17hvklYT4IidMaMOa7L46LcsQ
This is a zip package that you can install using TWRP to flash the .196 stock recovery, or you can unzip the file and you will have the recovery.img file inside, so you can use it as a backup, to flash in fastboot mode or using TWRP for install as image file instead of zip package.

There you have all the recovery files
https://yadi.sk/d/t-za9JiGmZPuw/Recovery Z00A
You can have the recovery files, that yes, are included in the RAW firmwares (just unzip the RAW file).
In other way and if you know how (I don't know, I tried but no succes http://23pin.logdown.com/posts/222680-build-zenfone-recovery-image-from-bootimg), is built the recovery.img using/paching the boot.img image and the files included in /recovery folder inside the stock ROM package.

You can find the recovery bitstream image (named recovery_sign.bin) inside the corresponding RAW file (which basically is a ZIP file).
The .196 one is here: https://yadi.sk/d/FijRoAVJtvRiG/WW_ZE551ML_2.20.40.196_20160815.raw
I'm looking for the .198 recovery.img, but haven't any success with the raw file for that version.
Could I flash a previous version of the recovery above an existing system, without reflashing it ?
Successfully unlocked bootloader, I lost my recovery by flashing a wrong TWRP and now I haven't the recovery at all.
Could you please suggest a way to reset it to stock ?
Thanks a lot

Thank you for the url.
I previously flashed the lower version of recovery and was unsuccessful. I think it doesn't work that way.
It's better to reflash completely from raw brings back to stock.
Then as you know you can unlock the bootloader, flash twrp recovery, and any custom rom like Borets ROM.
Hi,
I have the flickering screen problem with my phone and it is out of warranty so i can't send it back to repair.
I tried upgrading to the latest firmware, tried factory reset, wipe cache, installing google launcher, enabling the HW thing in developer mode and nothing worked.
I read that WW_2.12.40.11 version doesn't have the screen problem and i want to try it, but i wanna be sure i'm doing it the right way.
1) I read that i can't just put the wanted firmware in my phone and install the update but i must also flash the matching recovery to flash the wanted version - is it true?
2) Can i downgrade straight from my version to the lower one because i think the other way around, i need to have higher version for upgrading to the higher version i now have.
3) Where can i find the adb driver for this?
Thanks
You can downgrade via ext sd card using the downgrade version from asus > 52.20.40.196 LP which when installed , reboots to 2.20.40.196LP
When putting WW-UL- 52.20.40.196.zip.zip ,make sure to put an extra .zip on the end in file manager or in sd from pc first and reboot.
If you then put WW-UL-2.12.40.11-user.zip.zip (extra .zip) on sd or in file manager . You might get that to give you notification after a reboot too. Although i have not tested to downgrade that far .
You must use the first 52.20 blah blah fw to initially downgrade first though. Ignore this and you are liable to brick. Here >

OK, it's weird, i did flash the 2.12.40.11 recovery.img to the phone using adb and it was said in the console that the process completed, but now when i enter recovery mode it still shows me 4.21.40.223 version.
OK, I did downgrade with your method and it works great, but when i try to downgrade fro that version to the version i want to try i get error that i cant install the package over the existing newer version.

If you want to downgrade to such an old version, find the .raw file of that version (search here on XDA) and flash it via Asus Flash Tool.

Hi, thanks i'l try that.
does it matter in what order i flash this 3 files?
Edit: If i already flashed the ROM can i just flash the boot.img and droidboot.img or do i need to do the whole process including flashing the ROM again?
Is your screen flickering problem like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRuxTefNcKw
If its like that I was told its a LCD hardware problem which gets fixed by replacing LCD.
Update:
Well, I installed firmware 2.12.40.11 and it worked fine for several days but then the screen started to flicker again.
i started to update the devices with OTA updates and then i saw that in firmware WW_2.20.40.174 the screen didn't flicker.
i had further updates and then the screen started to flicker again.
i tried to flash recovery.img, boot.img and droidboot.img but not the device only enters fastboot mode but when i try to enter normal boot or recovery mode, it only comes back to fast boot mode.
any suggestion what should i do to unbrick the phone?
Thanks
Hey all! I'm trying to root my OnePlus 7t but I'm on 10.0.5 stock and I can't find a patched boot.img, or even a stock one to patch in Magisk. I'm on the global variant. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be grand. I have already read mostly all the posts...
I have the US version which I think is also the global version. Here's my patched boot.img for 10.0.5

Do I only need to flash the patched img or both ?
And do they need to be flashed to both A and B slots ?
Thanks for sharing

I would try fastboot boot before you use fastboot flash just to make sure that the device will boot successfully with the images. You should only need to fastboot boot magisk_patched.img, then open Magisk Manager and install Magisk by choosing the direct install option in the list. You only need the steps I mentioned to have root, and if you flash it to A and B at once you can get stuck in a bootloop. I had that happen at one point from flashing both partitions, and I dont recommend trying it.

Ya, I tried every relevant boot image I could find in the forums, and the device didnt work properly with any of them. The only one that allowed the device to boot successfully caused the wifi and sounds to not work. So I downloaded the full update from OnePlus and extracted it to a folder, then used payload dumper to extract all of the individual images out of the payload.bin file from OnePlus. I copied the boot.img into the phone storage and installed Magisk Manager, then patched the stock boot.img and copied it from the phone to my pc. Then I used fastboot boot magisk_patched.img to make sure the image I made would work. I booted the device and inside Magisk Manager I chose direct install in the list of options and everything went smoothly, and I didnt need to rely on finding images online that would hopefully work.

I have the US version which I think is also the global version. Here's my patched boot.img for 10.0.5

Here's the stock boot for 10.0.5 as well if you screw something up.

Don't ask why the file sizes are so different. It just gets smaller for some reason after patching it in magisk.

Thanks a bunch for the share. That was the missing piece that I've been looking for. I have the HD1905 variant and I just used Magisk to patch the stock file you provided. After testing, I'm finally rooted. Thanks again.
