touch screen not working. replacement screens same issue - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

i've got a sob story and i need a little technical ..and emotional advice.
I love my Mi5s. I lent it to a volunteer helping me in a charity project and they broke the screen. can't really ask them to fix it as it was my project and they were helping me out. The new screen arrived and as i was having a seriously busy week i decided to take it to a local shop rather than fix it myself, un-gluing looked like it could get tricky.
Well, the guy gave it back and everything worked fine, but he hadn't glued it down properly and wrapped an elastic band around it tightly to 'let the glue stick'. i opened the box the next morning and the band has cracked the screen.
Ordered a new screen and took it back to the guy. he broke it so he should fix it for free. he says the screen is wrong one as touch screen isn't working. i'm sceptical so i come to pick it up.. and that screen is cracked too.
Ordered another screen and fit it myself, but touch screen still not working. I suspect the guy has broken the touch screen, but he insists its because i've bought the wrong screen.. although the 1st one worked fine.
Tldr: tried to save 2 hours, lost 5 months, 3 screens and my touchscreen still isn't working .
Here's photos of what i have now. Can anyone see anything obvious or suggest what he's done/what i could do to fix it?

Check pins where display/digitizer connects to motherboard, see if there is any 'blacked' pin, like burnt or something like that.

[Q] Screen cracked, broken lcd as well?

Hello xda folks.
I'm very new to this forum and somewhat a newb at phone hardware. I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.
So this past 4th of July, I was being stupid (careless I should say). I was longboarding while on the phone (yeah I know), ate it and bam, shattered my screen. Now my screen is cracked so I hopped online and bought a new screen replacement digitizer from Amazon with good reviews so I know I'm not getting some cheap unusable part.
My phone still functions properly. Texts are coming in, I can answer calls and sort of guess my way around. Touch functions works. My backlight turns on but I get absolutely no display. My screen is black, no picture. But backlight works whenever I turn it on.
Does this mean I have a broken LCD? I'm going on a trip for a week IN a week and need my phone to work by next week. Also is there any way to tell if I have a wide or narrow flex in regards to the LCD without opening the phone? I'm waiting for my torx screw which is coming with my digitizer in a few days and can't wait that long to figure out what LCD I need if do I need one.
So my two questions are:
1. Do I need a new LCD?
2. If I do, is there a way to figure out the wide/narrow flex without opening the phone?
I apologize if this is a dumb post/asked a bunch of times. I'm just in a hurry and couldn't find the answers I needed and I'm not too knowledgeable at this stuff. Thanks for your help guys.

Help Troubleshooting screen problems

Ill start from the begining, I bought my phone about a month ago brand new from T-Mobile. The next day as I was getting into my car the phone slid out of my pocket and into the hole in the seat in between it and the center console, when I retrieved it there was a fine crack going across the screen. The LCD was not cracked and the phone functioned perfectly.
The next day after this while the phone was in my pocket the screen cracked again. Again the LCD was working fine. About a week later I sent the phone in for repairs (just a random guy nothing official as T-Mobile, Samsung and Asurion said I was SOL).
After about a week turn around I received the phone back, working perfectly and the screen fixed. About a day or two later the screen started freaking out (picking things I didnt touch and flying through the home screens on its own). Then all of a sudden the lower portion of the screen (just a little bit bigger than the lower app row) just stopped responding to touch all together.
I just now removed the screen myself thinking that be botched putting the screen back on. The LCD is in perfect condition. No burn marks, cracks, discolored pixels, anything. I then removed the case checking all the connection on the motherboard and everything seems secure.
I dont know what else to do maybe someone here can give me some suggestions or ideas. If all else fails I will file a claim and get a new one through asurion. Im just trying all my options before I burn more $$$ on this phone.
Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Sounds like a defective digitizer. Have you talked to the guy who did the replacement?

Ive tried but hes not responding to my text/calls
Call once more leave your name number and issue. If you dont hear back within 3-4 business days, call from a different number and plan constructively how to broach the issue. call recording might be an idea.

Curious, why would Asurion say you are sol, isnt that what they are for? Isnt it accident insurance?

[Resolved] Digitizer Dead-zone...?

So I got this nice (albeit beat-up, but 100% functional) G2 from a friend, and for about 3 weeks it had no problems. I rooted it, put CyanogenMod 7.2 on it, worked fine.
About 3 days ago, it started behaving really weird while I was using it. Interfaces not responding, at times opening things when I didn't have my finger on the screen, usual possessed phone behavior) I did some investigating with the Developer Tools' Pointer Location display, and there's this massive dead-zone on my digitizer! The dead-zone (while holding the phone in landscape) goes from X=255.1 to X=401.1, and covers all the Y-values in that range. if I move my finger slowly enough through the deadzone from one fo the sides of it, it will register as being directly in the center of it. Other times it will show a very light touch on the right side of the zone, activating interface elements and the like.
What happened? Do I have to replace the digitizer? I don't have a warranty on it, seeing as I got it second-hand. Possible fixes, if it's not a serious hardware issue?
I don't have money to spare, so buying things to fix it might take a lot of saving.
EDIT: Got it in the mail finally, replaced it in 45 minutes. I had to use the dorm's heated-air hand-dryer to get it off, and I kinda messed up the glue a bit, but it's working just fine.
If you have to replace the digitizer, I would not worry. I just got done replacing the lcd on my G2, and it works. I bought the lcd (in your case it would be a digitizer) off ebay and my purchased also included the screw drivers and plastic tip thingy to open the phone. For the digitizer you might need to also get double sided tape.
There is a youtube video showing how to take a part and put back the phone. I think the video was like 30min, but when I did it, the time was 1.5hrs totally.
good luck if you go that route.
Previous post is spot on, for most people I would assume this won't be a hard task, I have opened and repaired dozens of g2s (and many other phones) and although sliders tend to be the most complicated its really straight forward
Find a YouTube video or other instructions online and look at it ahead of time to see if its something you feel comfortable with. Then if so, order the digitizer (90% this is the cause 10% the main flex) for around 15-20$ and all you need is a #0 Philips and a t5 torx and a hairdryer/heat gun
You won't need tape as there is more than enough sticky left after prying of the digitizer. Expect about that hour in half if your new to this, but can be done in less than 20 if you do it a lot Here is a link to info on your phone including repair guides

Best of luck!

Aw. Was hoping this wouldn't be the solution.
That sucks. Just went and ordered one, it came with screwdrivers and the prying tool, but I don't have any double-sided tape. Let's hope it's still sticky. Well, it supposedly gets here on the 9th, so I'll read up on replacing from these links. Thanks for the support. Hope I don't break the thing. :/

[Q] A bit of help? Hardware problem

If I could kindly ask for some input...
I was helping a buddy sand his car down (old Midget ) for repainting with my phone directly next to my body. Got done and saw a bit of moisture in front of the front-facing camera lens. Touch screen unresponsive. Rebooted a few times, lots of ghost touches and hanging at the bootloader. Boots consistently now, but:
--Zero digitizer input but plenty of ghost touches
--No network access.
Can I maybe get some input on a plan, especially if anyone here has done hardware on these phones? I've replaced the screen on this one but that was months ago. Done a million different hardware issues but specifically wanting to know if there's any chance it's not worth replacing the screen. I feel bad asking for help on this but I really need to make the best decision.
Thanks Guys!
Vlad
Gen info: Slimkat 4.4.4, stock kernel
EDIT: The goddess of time has smiled upon my phone, and my phone smiled back. I waited 6 hours to post this and had the phone apart for at least that long, yet it looks like it hadn't dried out yet.
However....networking. Looks like the next step is flashing back to stock. Input?
been there, but weedeating

take it apart, see if there is any discoloration of anything(sweat...salt)
if you see any then be careful to remove it. i use lens cleaning clothes with a smudger
then. take a blow dryer to it
~*be careful*~ of course.(the phone can handle being soldered together so a blow dryer wont hurt it unless carelessly heating up one part.)
....i have never had rice work...
then let it sit for just a bit to air out. clean up contact, usb. gold contacts. headphone opening.
carefully...put it back together.
i suggest watching the youtube tear down of the phone

Cracked screen

Hello!
Today dropped my phone and screen got covered in spider web. The display itself looks fine, but its covered it spiderweb. The touchscreen doesnt respond at all.
What do i need to do now? I looked at local repair shops, they ask atleast 100 euros. But on ebay i can find lcd display+screen digitizer for 55 euros shipped, or screen digitizer starting from 10 dollars!
Can i buy only screen digitizer (as i understand that top layer of glass thats cracked is screen digitizer?) and replace it? Or changing LCD display along with screen digitizer is a must?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOIR-VITRE-...Pièces_de_rechange_outils&hash=item27f98e5d31
So this should fit..right? And are all 3 models LS970, E975 and e973 really same size? Cuz i`ve read people have got smaller screens than original from some sellers on amazon.
Replacing a digitizer is pretty hard and time consuming, that's why people usually replace the whole lcd+digitizer+glass assembly. You will also need adhesive and a heater/appropriate tools. It can be a great learning experience if you don't mind potentially busting your phone. There are no shortage of instructionnal videos on youtube on the subject.
Also, a new G2 is only 190$US .... Just saying ...

As i have two other phones. The g2 mini with Tegra and a razrHD. I'll give a try, thanks for the tip.
Well, i ended up ordering that LCD+Digitzer from ebay. Everything was fine for 2 months, now i have quite large spot that doesnt respond to touches. (See attachment) i already tried disconecting the lcd and digitizer..still same. Is it worth trying to flash another rom? I already flashed stock kdz (had stock before too..)
This happened just today, right after ghost touches went crazy and rondomly oppening everything.
EDIT: That spot is changing sizes..form remains, but it got a bit smaller now. Its truly weird. I put the phone outside for few minutes (its +9C outside) and touchscreen works fine now! What is going on?
EDIT 2: After few minutes of usage, the spot is coming back

I had dropped my LG (more than a couple of times) on its face and it seemed to suffer stroke-like symptoms: one side of the screen was completely dead to touch, and the rest of the screen would occasionally act as though I was touching everywhere which opened programs and messed with the keyboard. I was stubborn and just lived with it and over time, it stopped trying open programs and whatnot. Recently, dropped it again, this time it was a bit more serious. Still no visible damage to the screen, but the "dead spot" moved to the centre of the screen, and again, occasionally tries to open programs and add words to my messages.
At first I thought it all could be related to a software issue. Unfortunately, after installing new ROMS, it never fixed the problem. I bought a digitaliser screen from Ebay as well. I'm waiting on the adhesive tape still so I can't say if this will fix anything. I kind of have a suspicion that its a loose connector (the top middle part of the screen gets super hot only after a couple of minutes of being left on).
I'm just wondering if you have tried taking it apart again to recheck the wiring? I think we may have similar problems (your situation is the first I've come by on the internet that is anywhere close to what's happening to my screen). Thanks so much!
