I got this phone last week and love it.
Anyway, I noticed that when I go to camera viewer in the dark or view a black image I get a gradient white to transparent line from the top of the screen all the way across. Is it normal or Am I the only one who has this problem?
See the attachment, so you can see the problem what I am talking about. See the mark on those pics.
Should I return it??
Thanks!
Yes, I get exactly the same thing. Only noticeable when the image at that end of the screen is completely dark.
It doesn't show in the actual photo.
I wouldn't return it as it doesn't affect the result and it seems to be only one pixel wide.

Darn near $800 phone... If I order it and don't have absolute perfection, it's getting returned.

I am glad to know that I am not only one here. However, I like to know how many people here have this 'not-really-problem'.
Anyone, does your nexus have a similar issue to mine? If so, please post here (just say "yeah, I have that, no big deal" or whatever)
Mine has it as well, and it appears to me to be the same color gray as the background for the camera UI, and this is just the edge of the "view finder," I am guessing that the coder for the camera miscalculated where the screen edge would be...
Bump
Please vote in the poll.
Thanks!
I have noticed that my screen has about a quarter sized area smack dab in the middle that is lighter than the rest of the screen. It's noticeable when I'm scrolling through emails or posts on tapatalk. It's kind of annoying me at this point.
Has anyone else notice this? I posted this on another forum, and someone responded that he/she had the same issue. Just looking for some other feedback to help me decide if an exchange would be worth it. Thanks.
Mine looks to be uniform all the way through. Tested with solid background colors (white, black, green, red, tan) as well as just normal usage on websites, games and apps.
Every single one ive seen has it. Ive even checked out a few Optimus G Pro review videos on youtube and paused it when its showing a white screen, and its there as well.
Dont waste your time swapping, because its going to be there.

Interesting. I just used a flashlight app to make my whole screen bright white and I didn't have any inconsistencies.

I'm basing it off the fact that I've swapped two Optimus G Pro because of the white center and have checked out a couple of demo units that have the same white spot. My corporate ATT store hates me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_v2XWVmVAw , watch in HD and pause at 13:07. If you are watching it on an LCD, view it off-angle to make whites/greys more contrasty. There is a clear white spot in the center. In fact, you can see the blacklight bleeding on the top of the device as well...something that every OGP I've seen also has

Cool. Thanks for the info and links. The issues in the videos are exactly what I'm talking about. Probably going to be returning this one and go back to my Galaxy S3.

Just as a side note, you will never get a consensus on a forum on these matters. You just give yourself more headaches Someone has to be as obsessive as you to see the problem. I went through it with flickering backlight of the HTC One, the smearing and the burgundy blacks of the S4 and the banding on the GNex. Its there, but some folks just don't see it. But the proof is in the pudding

Yeah, its a bright spot in the middle of the screen. its hard to see in the videos unless you look at your monitor off angle in low brightness.

I think there is something behind the display in that particular sport that is causing this. If thats the case, i doubt its easily addressable. So much is crammmed in this thing that there is little room for wiggle.
However, ipads, iphone and imac that have LG IPS displays all suffer from uneven backlights and uneven tinting to some extent.it seems. Apple forums are overcrowded with these complaints. Supposedly, Apple and LG addresssed it with newer batches of the iPad. So, this issue might be addresssed as well.
You have a stuck pixel like my first unit did. I know at&t replaced mine for free. At the device support center they told me that its considered DOA and policy is to replace it for free. My new one doesn't have that annoying spot.

Just got my phone back from being S-OFF'd and decided to check my camera for a purple tint: http://imgur.com/a/NrAvJ#0. Is this what everyone's been talking about? If so, looks like I have a crappy unit.
What does the purple tint actually affect? I've noticed that my pictures with flash off turn out a bit blurrier, but I don't know if this is one of the side effects. I'd really like to trade in my unit for one that does NOT have this problem, but then I'd have to pay for S-OFF again.
Is that what happens when you cover the lense with your finger ?

This was with my phone lying flat down on a black leather chair. When I cover the lens with my finger, it just looks like the color of my finger because light is still getting in. If I cup the phone with my hand to block off the light, it's black and then I slowly see blue noise creep in after some time.

I'm really hoping this is the case, but I've read that it doesn't exactly make sense that it's a software issue since some units are on the exact same software without this purple tint? I'd hate for it to be a hardware issue that's simply swept under the rug by tweaking the software.

Not every phone is the same, there are multiple instances where one phone acts one way and another phone differently.
IF it is hardware I wont settle for anything but a brand new phone not taking a refurb on this phone.
I thought other people were seeing the purple tint in normal pictures. the images you posted just looks like low light noise. I normally see this type of low light noise when the sensor is pushed to hard by the software or the software is artificiality trying to add contrast in low light. I bet it is probably a combination of the sensor in your camera and the software. With any luck HTC can find a software fix for OTA. I know Motorola fixed the blue tint on my Droid 3 with a software update....

I really hope someone smarter than I am can get to the root of the purple tint problem and hold HTC accountable for it if it is indeed hardware related. I bought this phone off contract and I expect a return on every penny.

I agree, I sincerely hope that the VZW HTC One didn't use any cost cutting measures and this is a result of that and why it took so f*****g long to get to us.
and now I'm out $150 for being a loyal customer and buying my phone 1st day, had it been second day, I could have returned it but noooooooo.
I should have known they'd drop the price, but SO SOON!
HTC One Maxx must be REAL close..
Your phone isn't defective. That is the software trying to artificially induce contrast - if you take your phone and try some lowlight pictures you'll see it jump to a blue/purple/red tint as it tries to do its ultrapixel lowlight "magic". I can see this happen on mine too. The problematic phones are MARKEDLY worse.
I think a software fix will rectify the situation, and since HTC has acknowledged the issue, it will come in the next update. Unlike Samsung, whose sh*t Galaxy Nexus screens were so poorly made, yet they refused to acknowledge the problem.

The sensor is too good at what it does. Even with no light it is still trying to "sense up". Same effect seen on other ultra low lux cameras. Easily rectified with better software. It might just be that the sensors that exhibit this effect are actually better than the ones that don't.

Yep...this whole thread reminds me of my DSLR days and the Dpreview forums. Go take some real pictures and see what you get. If you still see purple casting on the picts then it is probably software. Now, you may see some purple fringing when there is bright light (ie sun) just off the edge. This happens with most phone cameras (and many regular). It would just be the bright light that would be purple though.
I am no expert but I cannot see how anything S-off would cause a purple tint/fringe.

He may mean the camera.apk from the CM 10.2 ROM but I am not sure either.
Sorry
Turn the iso down... What happens is the lens tries to open too much and is catching the ends of the light spectrum. Ex. Reds and blues. Other phones might not get these colors because the RF Stopper won't allow the lens to open up enough to start getting those colors

I saw at least one person mention that their camera wouldn't capture focus on anything further than 3 feet away. I was experience that problem too. This evening I was at a football game and was getting CRAP focus on the field. I was getting the people three feet in front of me in focus. I wondered if the lens was dirty. I wiped the lens with the camera app open and it forced a refocus and it finally grabbed focus out on the field. I tried shifting focus to other areas and focus was crap until I covered the lens and then let it refocus on the new item. Then it would grab a crisp image. If anyone else is encountering this issue, with the focal length not adjusting, I was curious what would happen if you tried the same thing.
Obviously this isn't ideal but it at least provides hope that software could remedy the issue.

Might be just me. Im really neurotic when it comes to my tech
I've also got this problem, it might not be that easy to see on the picture I've attached, but you can at least see that the colors are not the same. I've also tested the screen with an app called Screen test, and it seems to completely fail the Checker board test under Resolution and Horizontal resolution (1 pixel) makes the display flicker.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if it's due to the HTC Color Enhancement, or if the screen is bad. The stores says it's just a different color temperature on the screen.
The the light in the proximity sensors are IR captured by the camera, so I can't see it (except through another camera ofc)
Is this normal? Greys have a green tint which is really noticeable on low brightness. Is this a limitation of AMOLED? But I don't recall this issue on my 6P or Note 4.
Hmm. Not having this issue...
Greys are really greenish. Though it happens only at some certain brightness level (a little more than the lowest).
The panel apparently is of low quality and has issues with greys. It's detailed in the anandtech.com review
Not noticing this on mine either.

Yes what I had experienced from my last 3 phones I.e galaxy s2,s3,s4,s4 mini,s5 all of em which had amoled screen all have this thing. Its like if u seen u can't able to unseen. Guess that answers that, cheers!. (although mine might be right side of the screen, not bottom)
On my phone, the bottom part is also "greener" than the upper part. This is especially visible when brightness is set low (which I do when not outside, because it totally suffices).
Do more people have this problem?
Would returning the unit and getting a new OP3 make sense, or are these unevennesses typical??

I'm wondering if it's just an AMOLED thing... If it's really really bad then you may be better off RMA-ing it of course.

The findings on Anandtech have nothing to do with the quality and everything to do with the calibration, which is just software.
Hi, is it darker like the pics from my thread? I think I have the same issue on my display, just at the middle of the screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/dark-line-oled-screen-t3402293
One thought came to me: In the upper half of the OP3 are the parts which get warm when the phone "works". Perhaps the part of the screen which is warmed up regularly loses a bit of green tint, while the lower, colder part remains as it is??? Just a thought...
I get a weird purpley/dark colour on greys and when scrolling white font on black background, but only on minimum brightness.
After reducing brightness below a threshold (just above the minimum) the colours across the display seem to shift

I got my replacement phone today. And. The display is even more worse. The colors are uneven, like some of them have here. The bottom is greener and the top slighlty pinkier/the correct color.
Argh. That's what I'm afraid of (sent my device in for replacement on Saturday):
That, as a replacement, simply someone grabs a box with a new device and sends it to me, without testing.
Edios, what did you write in the service request as your reason why you want a replacement? Did you write about the display problems?
Welcome to the lottery...
Does anyone know: If the 2nd device also has a defect, and the 14 day return time since I got the 1st device is already over, can I demand from Oneplus that they take back the 2nd device and that I get my money back??

I didn't even mention the issues, Amazon immediately gave me a replacement.
The problem is, they provide only a single replacement and now insisting to give a refund. But I want this device cos there's no other device that I'm interested in. And it's out of stock also.
For what it's worth, these sound like typical AMOLED issues. There are long threads in the Galaxy S6, S7, etc. forums with people experiencing the exact same thing. AMOLEDs just seem to not be as consistent as LCDs in the quality control department and it's always just the luck of the draw whether you get one with green or pink tints or not.
