Emergency Alerts On DP2 - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Had some severe thunderstorms move through the area, and got a bunch of emergency alerts(SMS) as well as calls. I wanted to disable the text alerts but the option in Wireless Alerts>Emergency Alert History>Settings wasn't there. Anyone else have this on DP2?

[Solved] Spoken Notifications

I don't know what happened but starting yesterday certain notifications on my phone are now spoken. For example the email, messaging, and phone calls. So when I receive a new email on the email app the phone audibly says "New Email".
Does anyone know how to disable this feature? I have looked everywhere.
Thanks

Nevermind I finally found it. I had to turn off Google Voice Typing under the Language and Input settings in system settings.

I was wrong, you have to turn off "Driving Mode" in the quick pull down settings. Must have hit it by accident.
Does anyone know what all this mode affects I actually like this feature and would like it to be on all the time but dont want to leave in driving mode if it will negatively affect the phone.

[Q] Emergency Alerts

Anyone know how to turn these off? With the weather we have had the last month, i just want these to go away!!!
I know we can clear them but no way to block them.
Thanks!!!
I also would like to figure this out. There is no app, and nothing under settings to disable.
On the Zenfone2 it looks like the emergency alerts are configured using the default Asus Messaging app..
There is a section under Settings > Emergency Alerts

I had the same problem, would like to turn off those annoying alert and chat with asus tech support guys, they told that goto main 'setting'-->'more'-->'cell broadcasting' which couldn't be found, I had the phone in front of me but they insisted that it's there. That's real bad since asus make good products but their tech ppl had never know their products well.
It's in the messaging app. Go to settings / sms cell broadcast

They can be a bit overreacting at times. But it's fun to watch a room full of people get the alert at the same time ?

These settings are a PoS. You have to configure them through the messaging app, and you can only turn it off and on.
You can't configure which emergency alerts you get, or what the notification sound is, which sucks if you get spammed with amber alerts at 6am in the morning.
Going back to sleep now ... hopefully.
Yeah getting these "TEST" Emergency Alerts at 3am are not fun. I complained to Straight Talk, and in turn they told me to talk to AT&T. I'm fine with emergency alerts, but monthly "TEST" alerts at 3am? Not cool...

I encourage you to go to the Messaging app -> Feedback & Help.
Click on the search icon at the top-right
Search for "amber alert" or "emergency alert" and check "I want this"
nope
When I go to Settings, there is nothing there that says "SMS cell broadcast."
Emergency alerts are under
Asus Messaging -> Settings -> General Settings ->Emergency alerts

And if you are using hangouts or some other app for your "default" sms, it appears you have to enable the asus messaging as default for SMS before you can change this setting.
Which is silly.

Open the Message app, go to top right corner you will find 3 dots from top to down, select settings ---> General Settings ---> Select "Emergency Alerts", deselect Emergency alert settings. This will give idea to turn off.

[Q] Block Numbers?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to block numbers? I received a call today from a telemarketer and after I tried blocking it but couldn't find the option. I tried long holding the number and tapping the contact but didn't see the option. Thanks!
You can do this by:
- Hit call button from home screen
- Select 3 dots in top right and go to "call settings"
- Under Incoming Call, select "call reject"
- Select "Reject calls from"
- Click + and then call logs

I do not have a "Call Reject" option in that settings page. I have the Verizon G4.
Ouch. It is second item under "Incoming Call" section for me. I'm using the T-mobile G4.

Attached pic are my only option on Verizon...They can seriously suck it...
I do it through the Messenger (google's) application whenever I get an unwanted SMS.
Good thing is it carries over with your Google account. Unfortunately you cannot just type a number and block it.

If that doesn't work. You can log into your Verizon account and block the number from there. However, this method only allows for a 90 day block.
This is the route that I took. Hopefully a future update will re-enable this feature on the Verizon phones, but that is probably wishful thinking..
You can still launch the reject call activity under the phone app on the Verizon model, just have to use a home screen that can set activity shortcuts, or an app like quick shortcut maker (the app includes a search function that makes it easy to find)

I tried this with no luck, you can add numbers to the block list but calls still come through.

What do you search for and what is the package name?
It's under the call app, but if you just search for reject, you'll find the reject call activity.
I use app "whoscall"

Forwarded Call Notification

Does anybody know why the stock dialer doesnt show a notification if someone is calling on number that is forwarded to the Pixel phone (I have a privete number in iPhone forwarded to my business number in my Pixel)? I know in the past Android showed a short popup that the call is forwarded.
With you in this.. Only if there is an app or something that will show a notification alert..
Check out this app:

Mode1 needs that the mobile shows the default forwarded call notification message (that usually disappear in 2 seconds) to use it as a trigger to show the continuous notification message.
Anyway if the mobile doesn't show any default notification when receiving forwarded calls you could try Mode2.
I'm also curious if anyone can find a solution to this problem...

Emergency alerts are carrier driven and not from an app. You can find emergency alert settings by searching the settings menu

NO!!!! you are wrong.
emergency alerts build-in the system, but you try to set alerts must in system text messager. I use google messager, but an emergency alert goes system messager.
why do I know? because I got an amber alert in system messager in last week.
I am not wrong. What is set as your default message app? If you look at the settings on your device, the emergency alerts settings are there. If it were app based, the settings would be in each app.

Actually, you won't find it in the device settings. For me, it's under my stock message's settings.
