[Q] Block Numbers? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to block numbers? I received a call today from a telemarketer and after I tried blocking it but couldn't find the option. I tried long holding the number and tapping the contact but didn't see the option. Thanks!

You can do this by:
- Hit call button from home screen
- Select 3 dots in top right and go to "call settings"
- Under Incoming Call, select "call reject"
- Select "Reject calls from"
- Click + and then call logs

I do not have a "Call Reject" option in that settings page. I have the Verizon G4.

Ouch. It is second item under "Incoming Call" section for me. I'm using the T-mobile G4.

Attached pic are my only option on Verizon...They can seriously suck it...

I do it through the Messenger (google's) application whenever I get an unwanted SMS.
Good thing is it carries over with your Google account. Unfortunately you cannot just type a number and block it.

Try something from the app store

If that doesn't work. You can log into your Verizon account and block the number from there. However, this method only allows for a 90 day block.
This is the route that I took. Hopefully a future update will re-enable this feature on the Verizon phones, but that is probably wishful thinking..

You can still launch the reject call activity under the phone app on the Verizon model, just have to use a home screen that can set activity shortcuts, or an app like quick shortcut maker (the app includes a search function that makes it easy to find)

I tried this with no luck, you can add numbers to the block list but calls still come through.

What do you search for and what is the package name?

It's under the call app, but if you just search for reject, you'll find the reject call activity.

I use app "whoscall"

Sign into Google Voice. Click the Gear (Options) at the top of the page. Go to the Calls tab and uncheck "Call Screening". Save you changes and you should be good to go.

Thanks soo much! I was trying to figure it out!
It should be at the very top right of the page -- to the right of your email address.
If you still can't see it, try this link.

Blacklist from Call Log on Andromedus beta 4?

I recall in CM7 that blacklisting numbers from the call log (long press on the number, then press blacklist) was possible, but I haven't seen that option since starting to use ICS. Am I missing something? Is this still possible? Does it require a different caller apk?

I recall this as well in CM7. In ICS, it is integrated into the new "People" app (previously Contacts).
From what I remember, blacklisting in CM7 sent all calls from that person directly to voicemail. To reach this from the Dialer app in CM9:
- Click on the contact's icon
- Click the image again to go to their contact in the People app
- Open the menu and select "All calls to voicemail"
Hope this helps!

Thanks; that is close, it's actually what I do now. The nice feature about the blacklist was you didn't have to have the person added as a contact. The caller wouldn't show up in missed calls, either. Sending "all calls to voicemail" still requires adding the person as a contact and logs that as a missed call.
Close, but no cigar.

I use Avast! for this. It has a bunch of blacklist / call screening options that work on a root level to bypass the dialer. It can also keep logs & such if you want, but keeps it out of the main dialer logs. I definitely recommend!

If you have Face to unlock enabled, and you go to settings, lockscreen, improve facial recognition, another person can add THEIR face and both your face and their face can unlock the screen. I guess it's not really improving the system with how you look in different environments but compares every picture it has of you until it finds a match.
If you make an outgoing call with Google Voice, the display and call log will show the Google relay phone number, not the contact phone number. That was handled correctly on my Galaxy S3 on Verizon.

The S-Pen is way too sensitive, the phone registers strokes and taps from over 1/2" above the screen.
(I've tried whacking it on a hard surface, and holding the button then touching the screen. Not brave enough to pry off the button and tweak the pot).

I was wondering what the hell those numbers were. I just noticed that today and had no idea where those numbers came from! Is that a system problem or a google voice app problem?
If you go to the the gallery from the camera app by clicking the little icon in the bottom left then if you try to go to the entire gallery by clicking the gallery icon on the top left corner the phone takes you back to the camera app instead of the gallery app as it should. It is actually very frustrating.

S-Voice not speaking your text msg + Vpoice dialing issue
2 items I have noticed:
1) If I voice text someone, S-Voice will confirm the person's name BUT not speak out the message before asking if i want to send it.
2) When trying to voice text someone who has more than 1 telephone number in their contact info like Work, Home, Mobile, S-Voice will often (I can't say as yet if it is everytime) state that the person has more than one number asking me which one I wish to use instead of defaulting to the mobile number.
What I can say is S-Vopice over BT has never worked so well for me vs. what I had with my GNote 1 using Voice Talk.

Are you sure it's not AT&T's Smart WiFi app doing this? Make sure it's turned off.
I don't have this problem on my stock unrooted phone, but I remember on my Note 1 being surprised that the WiFi was always on, even when I turned it off, and it turned out this app was the culprit.

This is what I do. "Send message to John Smith's mobile. Meet you at the bar." Be sure to say "mobile" (you can either pronounce it mo-bill or mo-byle Then it'll automatically select their cell number. She'll respond back and when you're ready, say "yes" or say "send".
You can also say "Send message to John Smith's home..." It'll select John's Home # but of course, the message won't be received, I don't think, unless their home phone has a feature that receives text messages...
Thank you RexEscape

One way to solve this problem is go into contacts and assign the mobile number as the default and then it'll work as you want.

If the camera was last used in video mode, and I re-launch the camera from the lock screen via the quick-camera gesture, then the camera immediately crashes. Quick-camera in still-photo mode works fine, and any other launch method works fine even with video mode.
S Planner Tasks Do Not Sync To Google Calendar
This is not really a bug.
While events created in S Planner flawlessly sync to the Google Calendar, tasks do not sync.
In gmail app, while looking at the content of an email, swiping leftwards to go to the next email often results in just the title of the next email loading. Sometimes can take quite a while. If I go back to the inbox and click on the email entry I want to look at directly it loads fine.

Yup, same to me.
Add in there that if you have a contact's name that is in the format of Salutation LastName such as "Dr. Who" or "Mr. T" or "Ms. Parker" with no first name, s-voice doesn't properly pronounce it when it tells me "Calling Dr. Who". Specifically, Dr. is "Drive"... now that's just silly.
Another s-voice issue, response gets slower the more you use it. When I first started, I'd get answers back quickly. Now it takes 10s. I should go clear its cash I suppose.
Only reason I'm sticking with it is because it actually works unlike the offering from google (which seems to dislike my accent; works fine when others have used it.. I had the same problem playing with friends' siri implementations).

Just got my lg g3 yesterday and having issues getting this to work. Coming from and old htc it was easy as going into the contact and hitting block.
I have figured out how to block calls from this number but blocking texts i cannot do. I have found how to block through both the call app and the call log by holding down kn the number. When i do this on a text in the message app the only thing that pops up is the contact and the delete option.
Please help me find spam directory you are mentioning. I have the lg g3 from sprint runing 4.4.2 .
Thanks
Does this work from any screen other than call logs? I'd like to block some numbers on my old spam list _before_ they call me for the first time on this phone.

I would rather not root my phone just yet. I may go in and look at the htc m8 and see if they offer this feature still.
When in call logs hold the number and u will get options, choose reject call..
Call Filter doesn't require root. I have used it for over a year on multiple phones blocks calls and I believe texts but I don't need to block texts so haven't tried.

Go into the dialer hit the menu key and there will be a call reject tab. You can do it from there.
not working for me
I used to be able to long press on a number from my recent call list and add it to a reject call list (this was on my Samsung Galaxy S3) .... on my LG G3 I don't get that option ... only "view", "edit" "copy" "clear" and "clear logs". What am I doing wrong?

Reject/block calls

Hi all
I owned the G2 and G3 on both these devices you had the ability to reject calls by long pressing number and adding to reject list..
However I can not find or am unable to add nuisance calls to a reject list on G4..
Is this function gone or is there another way to do it?.
Cheers.
Hit the dialer app, open the options menu and select call settings. There's an entry named call reject, where you can do this. It's far more complicated than on the G2, but it's there.

Not for Verizon
You can also try an app called Mr Number..Ive used for a couple of years to keep trck of blocked calls, etc
You can still access the reject call screen on Verizon through a shortcut maker, like quick shortcut it, or activity shortcuts on home screens other than lg.
