Android (Google) Messages - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hello. Is anyone experiencing an issue with GIFs in Android messages? In the message thread I can see the gif animated but when I tap on it to expand or open it the animation stops. I'm on the unlocked version of the S9 on the AT&T network.

Problem split view in message app

Hello,
The split view (see attachement) in the message app is enabled in the parameters, but when I'm in lanscape mode, the app doesn't split anymore. Has anyone encountered this problem ? And how to fix that ?
Also the split view works well on the email app, but not in the message app.
I'm on stock rom
The version number of my Note II is : JRO03C.N7100XXALIJ
Thanks in advance

[Q] Black flickering while reading emails with default client

Hello fellow XDA member's,
I am having an issue with my Galaxy Note II from Rogers (rooted and running "[ROM][7/11][N7105XXDMF2 ULTIMATE] Best International ROM" a Modded Stock ROM with 3.0.36 Perseus-apha35 Kernel, I317MVLBMA3 Baseband and build number JZ054K.N7105XXDMC3).
The issue is that the screen flickers black when scrolling through emails in the default email client "Email, Version 4.0". This only happens the first time I scroll down the email and appears to happen when the stock email client is loading/buffering the email message. Is this normal behaviour and is there anyway to disable the black flicker while the email is loading/buffering?
Thank you very much in advance,
John

[Q] [Sprint] stock 4.3 has bug in browser menu text?

I've noticed after upgrading from stock 4.2 to stock 4.3 on my Sprint Galaxy Nexus that there is a typo in the Browser's drop down menu. It doesn't go away even after rebooting or enabling/disabling Browser in Settings -> Apps. The text "The following one or more apps re..." appears in place of the usual "Find on page" text. Has anyone else had this happen on their phone?
Here's two screenshots (attached) - one showing the dropdown menu on 4.2 and the other after OTA upgrading to 4.3.

Thank you! Why are you the only other person on the Internet to have noticed this problem? Got exactly one search hit. Here.
I thought I broke something. But no, apparently Google or Sprint did.
For what it's worth I'm on a Sprint MVNO.
Good thing the crazily named menu selection still works as "Find". Stock browser is still my favorite on Android.

Android stock SMS vs Samsung stock sms

HI, got the kitkat 4.4.2 on my 9195 4G LTE and the stock sms app has added some stupid contact icons next to every message you send or get. I know its a small thing but IT REALLY REALLY ANNOYS ME! Add that to the stupid txt and call alerts that appear on the lock screen... well I really wish it was on 4.1.2 like my old S3.
Well to combat the lock screen rubbish I rooted and used an Xposed module to disable the alerts.
Now the SMS app, does anyone know if the stock ANDROID sms app has the message icons? Or is this a samsung thing?
If the stock android hasn't got these message icons then can I remove the samsung version and install the android stock sms app? (If so where would i get it)
If not, does anyone know how to remo e the message icons? And I have tried other sms apps and don't care for them.
Thanks
Nemo

At least on Cyanogenmod 10.1, the icons are there as well. I would bet dollars to donuts it is on the AOSP one too (as CM wouldn't have touched too much of this app form the AOSP original).
But I can fire up my AVD's and check out AOSP for you, even look as to what version the profile photos were added.

Is there a mod that can change chat bubble color in Samsung Messages?

Peace All...
Is there a way or mod to change the chat bubble colors of Samsung's Messages from that God awful green? I heard of Hex Installer, but you have to take on the whole entire theme. I just want to change chat bubble colors ---> and I do NOT want to use a 3red party text messaging app.
Any one know of anything that might be able to do this??

Bump, I would also like to know.
Use MOOD
Far superior to Samsung Messages and that damned Google Message app that used to be good
Try it out, you can customize bubbles, text, backgrounds (per thread!) and much more.

That app (which you didnt name) might be "far superior" than Samsung's Messages, but I have no desire to switch to it, I would prefer to keep using Samsung Messages.
But Thanks anyway

How about naming that app??
It's Mood (or mood messenger). I've used Textra, Google message, and many others. I think this is the most customizable
Anyone know a caller / Messaging combo app that supports dual sim, so it can remember the default sim for each contact.
Also the samsung messaging app, if i copy a text, then i get another window to copy the txt again which is annoying

I get what your saying about the copy. The key is using the s pen. Hold down the button and then select. Only three small dialog box will pop up.

A small update for anyone who cares....
I've moved on to another SMS app called Pulse. It allows texting both on your phone and desktop simultaneously so you can text at work and on the road.. saves my thumbs tbh. Mood is still a little more customizable but pulse is still pretty damned customizable as well and the multi platform access is a current winner for me.
I know no one asked, just thought I'd share.
Cheers, XDA!
