Mi-6 LTE features support - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

I'm trying to find out exactly which features (and maximum download speed) of LTE-Advanced the Mi-6 supports. To know without a doubt the app Network Signal Guru will intercept the information from your phone. ROOT is needed.
Is there anyone with a rooted Mi-6 that can run it and follow these steps?:
-Check that LTE is on
-Open Network Signal Guru
-Go to Layer 3 Signaling
-Turn on Airplane Mode and then off
-There should be a line called UE Capability Information, open it
-Copy the whole message to Pastebin and post the link here
Thanks a lot

I'm not sure if I did it well, but here it's what I found. I attached a screenshot, as I couldn't copy/paste the text
Edit: I reuploaded the image

Ah yes the other image was the wrong message. It's still weird that it's so short. Is there another longer message somewhere else? It's labeled as ERRC in a grey box with an orange upwards arrow and says UE Capability Information
Can you take a screenshot of where the text says ueCategoryDL and ueCategoryUL? I guess the premium app is needed to copy text.
Thanks

I hope this helps

Thanks but it doesn't... Anyone else?
The text should be much longer (maybe UE Capability is repeated down the list?). You should find 5-6 lines that contain 'ueCategory'
AlvaraADTR have you ever done LTE speedtests? How fast did it go?

Netorking ES File Explorer

Guys,
I've recently installed the App ES File Explorer but have come across two issue's when using the networking option.
Basically the App has a Tab to select a LAN, you then ask it to scan for any items on your local area network and it successfully picks up my Windows 7 64bit Laptop and gives it the appropriate name.
However, when I click on ithe Laptop name to connect and see it's contents on my SGS I get two problems:-
1. It asks for a Username & Password?
Now I don't have any Usernames or Passwords on my Laptop for logging in but if I leave this blank on the SGS it repeatedly asks for the above.
If I type in Admin & Admin it accepts it but now we get to the next problem below.
2. Unable to access files?
Every time I click on the Laptop name to establish a connection it simply informs me it is unable to find the laptop nor establish a connection.
Can anyone help me out here in the settings I need for both the SGS and the Laptop.
Thanks in advance
Beards
Also using Win 7 & ES, when I came across this, I ended up giving 'Everybody' on the network access to the Public Documents folder, (using Properties>Sharing>Share Button, not 'Share with') & that worked fine, as no combination of username/password (that I tried) worked.

Thanks for coming in on this.... It appears I have a bigger problem in understanding networking than I thought.
If I can explain the situation maybe you could pass on your verdict.
In trying to first set up a LAN network on the SGS using ES after I clicked on Menu/New I chose 'Scan'.
After scanning it came back and found 'Mike-Laptop.home' with the IP address underneath.
When I now click on this a small warning box appears in ES saying "smb://192.168.X.XX (where X equals IP address)
Network path not found or time out, Please try again".
It's at this point I am lost.
Basically I'm trying to let the SGS have access to my entire Laptop's hard drive.
Am I asking too much here?
I found the Public folder and did as you say (although using this option we are just sharing what lays in the Public folder) but on the SGS using ES nothing shows up...
So, I suppose it's a two part question:-
1. Using the C: drive what settings do I need for both Laptop & ES Explorer?
2. Using the Public folder again what settings for both machines are required.
Note: I just knew before I started this that surgery which I perform would be much easier.
You need to set a password on your laptop for it to work. Obviously, you don't want anyone on your local net to connect to your laptop right?
You don't need to share folders on your laptop, once you've authenticated and logged in, you get access to all drives.

That was about as much help as a concrete parachute!
You obviously did not read my last message.
I have already established using Admin followed by Admin seems to work.
I am more concerned in HOW to set up BOTH the Laptop & ES so that when I click on the connection for Mike-Laptop.home it finds the network.
Sorry for the delay, here is what I have come up with for what it's worth.
I established that you must have 'File & printer sharing for Microsoft networks' enabled, as without this ES filex doesn't see any PCs.
To check I disabled the above, then re-enabled it & got the same result as you, ie: 'Network path not found or time out' even though the Public folder is shared.
I then went to the properties of 'My Documents' & enabled sharing & added read / write permissions for the 'Guest' account, after doing this I can click on my Windows PC in ES filex & it then shows the printers (a bit useless) & C$, which is the administative access the the C drive (doesn't work), plus the other drives & the 'Users' folder, if you go into this folder you should see your username (on the PC) as a folder, also the 'Public' folder, inside each should be the respective shared 'Documents' folders.
I feel ES filex is maybe not capable of passing the SMB (the protocol being used) password to the Windows PC in the appropriate manner.
Hope this is of some help, let us know if it is / isn't.
PS: At least in IT stuff, even if it's a really important thing that goes wrong, you do get a fairly painless second chance to fix it, whereas, when I had angioplasty performed recently, I was watching the monitors & praying that nobody said "Oh Damn!" as you know what the second chance is in that situation. So I for one applaud your profession.
Hi Alan,
Once again my thanks to you on popping back.
In our home whenever my wife wishes to thread a needle she always turns to me and says with a smile "come on, lets see how good those hands are".
Steady hands, rock steady hands is what a surgeon needs.....
Now jump forward to IT ~~~~ I am now at the mercy of the Gods and it's sinister Black Magic.
Frustratingly I can perform a nine hour operation with a mans life at the edge and not once break out into a sweat or uncertainty..... but these bloody PC's have me running around in a never ending circle... Oh how I mistrust these infernal devices.
That's why I use and understand the phone more than my PC.
Anyway, moving on... Let's see what kind of mess I'm still in:-

You mention ''File & printer sharing for Microsoft networks' must be enabled.
Sorry but where is this located?
On my Windows 7 64bit I could not find it.
Under Control Panel 'Network & Internet' there is an option to select 'Choose Homegroup and sharing options.
If I then select this all libraries and printers are already ticked.

When I go to the properties of My Documents I can not find an option to enable sharing.
There is under the sharing tab a box with the word share which when selected I note all libraries and printers have a tick.
Also, the 'Guest' item is set to Read/Write.
One thing I have noticed is that if I right click on any folder and from the drop down menu select 'share with', the top item 'Nobody' has a padlock associated.
Hope this is of some help, let us know if it is / isn't.

Ahh, now there's a topic I know well and feel much more at ease discussing.
Hope the procedure was a success Mark and that you are feeling the benefits of those blood vessels pumping better.
Marvelous how something as simple as a balloon catheter can achieve so much.
As a side note, I've lectured all over the world on medical matters and this subject pops up more times now than what it used to be.
Right.... got to go. Have notes to write and people to see.
I'm going to give it one more go later but after that ~ it get's the chop!

'Homegroup sharing' is a Windows 7 PC to PC only, sharing protocol, designed to make small network setup easier.

Just to confirm, that is the 'Sharing' tab in the 'My Documents' property box & the 'Share' button is in the 'Network File and Folder Sharing' section.
If so, when you click the button you should see a dialogue box headed: 'Choose people to share with', where there is a list of users & permissions.

This is more related to the "easy" sharing associated with Homegroups, but once a folder is shared (as above) then clicking on the 'Specific People...' in that drop down related to the shared folder or any subfolders, should show the same users with their permissions

Thank you, I was doing this stuff when it took 25 floppy discs just to install a word processor, with no indication of progress or any real certainty of it working first time.

Yes great improvement, thank you & I have given up the bad things, so the good work doesn't go to waste.
Yes, simple, in terms of mechanics, but complex in the application. I was very pleased at one stage in the procedure that very fine carbon fibre wire had been created.
Hi Alan,
I was pleasantly surprised to see your reply so soon after my post.
Rather than delve into your reply bit by bit I noticed in the first part to your answer a difference in what is shown on my Laptop to what you have kindly mentioned.

Whether this is where I am going wrong but on my Windows 7 64bit Laptop I don't have that option in the Control Panel 'Network and Internet'.
Instead of seeing 'Network and Sharing Centre' what I see is either 'View network status and tasks' or 'Chose Homegroup and sharing options'.
Nothing mentioned in reference to Network and Sharing Centre or a 'Local Area Connection'.
It sounds like the missing Local Area Connection is my problem.
I'll have a dig around when I have some more time.....
Thanks again Alan

Sorry to labour the point, but after clicking on control panel, if you then click on the 'Network and Internet' heading in green, does it then take you to a window with 'Network and Sharing Center'?
Also I'm assuming that both the laptop & phone are connected to the same wireless network.

I feel we are nearing 'THIS PART' of the quest.
Yes, I found the 'hidden' green menu (sorry I did not realize by clicking on the title Network and Internet in green it would take me to the missing 'Network and Sharing Center) and this loaded the said window.
Unfortunately, even after clicking on this at what was shown I could not find any mention of the wording 'Location Area Connection'.
Obviously I am missing something quite glaring but it is evading my eyes.
Apologies in all these messages Alan... apologies.
I'm due back in theatre now and won't be back until 11PM so if you do post back I'll pick it up then.
Thanks
Yes. I think we may be.
After clicking on 'Network and Internet' then 'Network and Sharing Center' then hopefully you should come to the page with 'Connections: Local Area Connection' (this might not say exactly that, but the LAN connection will be in this position.)
Hopefully this will move it on a bit.

Hello again Alan,
Literally just out of theatre... a busy 6hrs straight but another happy customer.
I've only got a few minutes then I must pop back down and see the ladies family.
It would seem my Network and Sharing Centre is different to yours.
The item I have to click on is titled 'View Network Status and Tasks'.
When I then click on this I get the same window as the second picture you have kindly uploaded with the exception where on the right on mine it does not mention anything to do with LAN.
Instead where it says Connections: mine then says 'Wireless Network Connection (BTHomeHub2-W75N)'
Nothing further is mentioned so obviously (and I don't understand why) the selection of anything to do with the Local Area must be located elsewhere on my system.
My good Son-in-Law is coming over tomorrow evening and he has offered to have a look to see if he can locate the missing section.
I feel once I have this in place things should start to fall together.
My only concern though will be once the Local Area has been sorted, getting the Galaxy and ES to link may end up being called to say enough is enough.
I'm known well for not giving in to matters (stubbornness as my Wife kindly informs me) that I do not understand but as in this case as it involves others as in your good self I do not wish to burden you with this problem in such a manner whereas opening the next reply becomes a headache for you.
Okay Alan.... time to dash.
Again my thanks for your continued assistance.
I (almost) never give up, 'Network and Sharing Center' & 'View Network Status and Tasks' indeed both take you to the same place, as do a lot of things in Windows (I have to admit I mainly use Linux, PC as well as phone).
It looks like, whilst you have a network connection, you don't actually have a network, per se. The following links explain the subject quite well.
http://xclusive4all.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-setup-local-area-connection-in.html
http://xclusive4all.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-setup-multiple-network-interface.html
Sorry, that's cheating a bit, I know, but it saves (me) a bit of typing.
Let me know if it helps.
Thanks again Alan.
Only had time for a very brief look but pleased you pointed me towards this issue.
Apologies but unfortunately any progress will have to wait now until the weekend I'm afraid.
00:45AM ~ Left Hospital for drive back home, 01:14AM ~ arrived home, 01:30AM ~ in bed, 03:17AM ~ phone rang ~ I'm needed up in Scotland as they can't fly the patient to me. Flight booked for later this morning.
I'm taking my Laptop & Phone (obviously) with me so if I get a chance I'll have a read.
Catch you later Alan... time now 06:40AM got to dash flight to catch
Mike
Hi Alan,
Got back from Scotland and my Son-in-Law came round and I'm very happy to report he fixed it for me.
What he did was load up 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Features', then first clicked on 'Inbound Rules' and altered the first two lines of 'File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request) then did the same with the 'Outbound Rules'.
Now I can happily see my Laptop from the Galaxy.
Thanks again Alan for your patience and dedicated help, without which I would have put this task down some time back to leave for another day.
All the best.
Mike

After I click on Video the FS Video Player starts with that video. Where it shoud be the Complete Action Using window?
10x a lot!
P.S. When I open a video from internal sd card or external sd card I use default Video Player, but when I open a video file via lan (streaming) it opens with FS Video Player.
Sorry, I am totally lost in what you are asking.
It could be the translation.

Terminal command to switch 3g on and off?

While waiting for cyanogenmod and the toggle 2g app to land from the heavens, I had this idea. So is there a command to switch the 3g to 2g and backwards?
Using this command with locale and the terminal plug-in could be handy. I just don't have the linux knowledge, so that's why I'm asking here
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Could it be as simple as echo-ing a value to something in /sys or /proc? I poked around for a minute in those dirs but didn't see anything obvious.
just use switcherpro widget great app and can turn on/off 3g
I thought it would be easy, since it's just probably one value to change somewhere, but as said I'm pretty much lost with this one
All of the widgets are just shortcuts to the settings. And that's exactly why I asked if anyone knows if this is possible, I don't like it that I have to click 5 times to switch the network (have to open the lockscreen also). I just want it to be automatic, so that it would switch to 2g at nights and when I'm at home where I use my computer to surf net. Also did you really think I wasn't aware of the widgets? If not, that wasn't that much of a contribution.
If it really is as easy as just echoing a value like so many other things are, you could do a listing of all files in the suspect dirs, then make the change manually, and then compare what files have changed. That might narrow down the search. There's probably some nifty grep or other linux command to make that easy, but I'm not real sharp at that.
I tried running logcat on the phone while switching network settings and while the log reflected my actions somewhat, it wasn't helpful in identifying what really happened.
TheMasterBaron just posted a non-signed version of the toggle 2g/3g app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530&page=15 I tried to sign it with the "auto-sign" folder, but it won't install. (For the record, I have signed apps from update.zips succesfully before with it). Anybody know how to make it compatible, since he (TMB) says it's down to the signign http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8073786&postcount=149

[Alpha 0.2 Released!] Facebook Location - Update Facebook status with your location!

First I want to say a huge thanks to 'Avalon-99' and 'deedee' for testing my previous builds
Its Here!!
Well after some awesome testing over the past few days. Its came to the time to release the first actual release of FBLoc!!
What is FBLoc?
FBLoc is a small app that allows you to update your Facebook status with your current location, Either by CellID or more accurate GPS!
CellID: Gets your status based on the Cell Tower you are currently connected to, then querying its location and some info from your phone reverse-geolocate the co-ordinates returned by the program to an approximate address...
GPS: The same as CellID but instead of using the co-ordinates from a Cell Tower it uses the GPS co-ordinates and then returns the address at that location...
Download it now!!
Thanks,
-David

You will need to manually authorize my facebook app with your facebook account (to allow status updates from the mobile app)
1) Login to Facebook.
2) Click this link - CLICK ME!
3) Allow the facebook app
4) Click where it says "Click Here to get your access_token!"
5) Copy the access token without "access_token="
6) Create a text file called "key" should be of type .txt
6.1) in the txt file place your access token you copied
7) Copy the txt file into the FBLoc folder in program files on your phone
8) Run the app
9) Enjoy
10) Report any errors that you face!
Cheers, Dave
Sort of works for me.
Location is technically close enough, see screen cap, "A" is the found location, red circle actual. Program says "County Londonderry, BT52 2HU" which is wrong.
Not a biggie for postcode but location should be Coleraine.
I think it depends on how close the Cell Towers are to you at the time. And how accurate the database I'm currently querying is...
I'm adding some debug options, so when I'm out next week to my familys 100 miles away I can test its accuracy along the way
For me on the map its about the still some distance from my actual location..but I'm still getting the correct town and start of postcode (KA18 1)
(see my attached image)
EDIT: I have noticed (for me) that removing some points after the decimal on the co-ordinates gets it a lot more accurate!
See the 1st attached image for these coords: 55.4550,-4.2679
But then look at the 2nd image for these coords: 55.45,-4.26
Using only 2 places after the decimal brings my location to just a few hundred metres from my precise location
3rd Image: Shows latest build, showing approx street name and county, Which for only using CellID and no GPS what so ever then I think its pretty accurate...
I have attached to this post the latest build for anyone who can test it with the new coords settings, see how accurate it is for them!
Thanks, Dave
Hi, I tested it in Germany on my HD2.
I could find my Location. I'm living on the country and it found a Location 5 km from me.
I Click on Update Status and got the message Status Updated.
But on Facebook, nothing happend.
Location much better, now gives town correctly.
For some weird reason, and I am assuming its pure CellID swithcing if I move the phone 2" across the room, the address returned changes from no 2 to no 77.
Not updating my FB though.
Yea same for me, I'm sitting 3ft from a window and if the phone is on my left (close to the window) its one location.. if its on my right then it changes location by a few hundred metres...
@avalon: I'm not sure how good this may be outside the UK/Ireland...
For the facebook problem:
See my attached images of the steps I take to get the access_token
1) Allow the facebook app to access your data etc..
2) Click to continue to ur token
3) Your token
4) Then (for now) you have to manually create a text file called settings with your access code in there..
(ahh wait, just noticed!)
You only copy the actual code, leaving out "access_token="
so for me my code starts with "1943" because "access_token=1943"
Hope that fixes the facebook updating problem
I deleted access_token= and now it works fine
It works in Germany, but I live on the country and the cells are very large.
So it couldn't be very exact.
Sent using RapidRead!
Quick update & Test build!
Now includes GPS for those who want a more accurate location!
Let me know what you all think of the current progress...
Any ideas/suggestions post them up and I'll be happy to implement them..
Still to come:
Internal Authorization for Facebook (75% Done)
Ideas/Suggestions:
(Show location on google maps, via internal browser)
Cheers, Dave
Use CellID works good.
On Use GPS, I got after a while the message "An Error Has Occured".
I don't know, which error, maybe I have no GPS Fix?
Could you inlarge the buttons "Use GPS" and "Use CellID"
Hey, I have resized the buttons
Change Log (FBLoc4.rar):
Added Satellite info - see how many satellites are in view and how many are locked-on
Changed all error messages to slightly more meaningful errors, So you know what part is having an error.
Preview Images:
003: Shows my Cell ID Location.
004: Shows my GPS Location.
If you show both results on google maps, it shows you CellID can be pretty accurate
Click for >> Google Map Showing Both Points
Red = CellID
Blue = GPS
Let me know how this one works for you
-Dave
I have Satellite Count 7/8
LAT=50,27039801
I couldn't see LON, it's to wide.
Error message: " Error Getting GPS Location"
With CELLID, I found my Location.
Okay thanks, I know where the error is coming from. Just hard to say why its doing it.
You are getting a gps fix so its not a coordinate problem :/
I'll add add a few debug messages to find the exact line/position it errors.
Try this version...
I added some messagebox's so I can pinpoint where the error occurs... As its working for me I can't replicate the problem...
(Just a thought.. Are you connected to the internet, WiFi or 3G,GPRS etc??)
You need the internet connected to be able to convert the coordinates into a location
If your are connected then the error comes from somewhere else...
Hi,
i have an internet connection.
Here are my last messages:
- Waiting for Response
- Got Reponse
- Splitting Location Array
- Putting Array into variables
- Error Getting GPS Location
Doing some UK travelling later this week, I will try and run screen caps to check the CellID and GPS locations, see how close they are.
Ahh thanks, I now know where the error is coming from.. Now I just need to fix it
Try this ver, added more messages around the area where the error occurs.
Working messages should be:
"DEBUG: Var 1"
"DEBUG: Var 2"
"DEBUG: Var 3"
then 3 msgbox with the 3 location variables
And if all goes well then should say: "DEBUG: Return Found Location"
-----
Thanks, deedee
I'll be doing the same this weekend on a trip to my family.. a good 100 miles or so, and then a few trips to town aswell.. which is another 10-20 miles.
I'll have a good idea of accuracy hopefully by then end of it. Just now at my house the difference between GPS and CellID is about 410 ft apart
Hi,
the messages:
-DEBUG: Var 1
-DEBUG: Var 2
-DEBUG: Var 3
-DEBUG: 0
-DEBUG: 0
-Error Getting GPS Location
-DEBUG: finish
Okay, The problem lies in the splitting of the list it receives after getting the location..
WAIT lol.. I just remembered from previous apps I've made and then confirmed it..
Because your coordinates the separator is , instead of the expected decimal .
Which then is causing the error
Simple fix: Just check if the coords have , then replace it with . then it should be fixed!
EDIT: Test the attached build, please
Yes, you find it, my separator is ","

[Q] Quick PRL Write Shortcut, S Note, and some other Misc. Note II ?s

Hello,
First of all, long time lurker (pulled a lot of fixes, zips, etc off of this site), first time poster.
Watched the video as directed, and while I would say a little harsh, also definitely hilarious!
Anyway, have been searching to answers to these questions for a while and I just can't seem to come to a satisfactory solution.
Feel free to answer any combination of these, it's a long post and you may not know the answer to some of them.
Some background info: I am stock, rooted, and running LJC firmware.
Problem 1 - PRL Write
I am simply seeking a quick, easy way to force roam. No, I am not trying to get out of a contract, let me explain. I live in Iowa, and a fair amount of the Sprint service here is still 1x only. I would have switched a long time ago if it weren't for Network Vision plans, but that's beside the point. I need something to bridge the gap between now and the point where all cell sites have LTE (which could be a while...) The main reason I want a shortcut it that I stream a lot of Internet radio (Pandora, Slacker, etc) in the car on road trips. I want a shortcut to PRL Write (hopefully one that will go into Car Home Ultra) so that when I hit that 1x part of I-35 I can quickly flash 00002 VZW PRL and continue streaming on VZW 3G after a reboot, instead of going through ##DATA etc while driving. Also would like a shortcut to Update PRL for when I cross back into Sprint 3G land (after all I do not want to be cancelled). I have already tried AnyCut shortcut (for PRL Write) to no avail (says "Could not launch the requested activity"). Any alternate solutions? Or anyway to get the AnyCut Shortcut working?
Also, this wouldn't be a problem if Roam Control would work on the Note II, any alternatives to that app, or any insight as to when it's coming to our device? Developer website lists "Understand why current version does not work with Samsung Note II" as a goal for the current version, so it's on his radar.
Problem 2 - S Note
I am a student, and have ended up using S Note for almost all of my (written) homework. What I do is I scan the physical assignment using CamScanner, export that to PDF, then Import it into S Note. Then when I am done, I export that assignment back to PDF, and send it to my teacher through Gmail. This is a somewhat long process, but I have found it to be worth it to keep myself organized.
Questions here:
-Are there any ways to speed up this process, for example by using Tasker or similar to automate parts of it? For example, a Send to "X" teacher button, where I choose the file and it automatically emails the attachment to my teacher? This is just one idea, maybe you guys have others?
-Are there any ways to choose where to export the PDF from S Note? I have found it to tedious to sift through a bunch of other assignments to sift through a bunch of other assignments in the "S Note Export" folder. For example, separate export folders for English, Math, General, etc. This is often only an issue when I need to send multiple PDF's at once, when I only want to send one assignment I use "Share via" in the S Note menu which will bring up an email with the PDF already attached.
-Is there any way to get S Note to go to top of page when switching between them? Right now it goes to the same spot on the next page, rather annoying as I often have to scroll around to find what I was looking for.
-Lastly, are there any other applications that will do this task with less interface quirks than S Note while also interacting correctly with the S Pen?
Other Misc. ?s
-My back cover creaks very badly. It does not want to stay on the phone. It has gotten so bad that I hear the creaking through my case. I have also replaced my back cover three different times at a Sprint store, they start off alright but gradually get worse. Right now if I happen to press a certain spot about midway between the volume rocker and the "Galaxy Note II" on the back cover, it causes the snap in the upper right corner to pop off. This causes the rest of the cover to creak more. I have tried about a hundred different ways of putting the stupid thing on, in addition to replacing the cover three times as previously mentioned. It seems to me that the snap points on the phone itself aren't accepting the snaps on the cover correctly. Kinda pathetic for a $600+ phone, but that's Samsung build quality, whatever. I have also heard to NOT send your phone to Samsung for this as they send it back exactly the same. What should I do to fix it?
-As I mentioned above, I live in Iowa and a fair amount of Sprint coverage is 1x only. Sprint disables the 1x indicator in the status bar and instead leaves it as 3G. BAD SPRINT! Lol, anyway, is there anyway to modify SystemUI.apk (not too familiar with it but have done a little research) for the sole purpose of adding that 1x icon back in? Something like this without all the other stuff.
-When will our phone get 4.2/4.3? (haha, you don't have to answer this one if you don't want).
If you read all of that, thanks. Also, thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide. XDA can get pretty confusing for a N00b like me, but is definitely a great site, keep up the good work!
For the first question although its not really related to the question, you can try other sprint prl's as strange as it my sound I have seen other sprint prl's work well and I even get better reception and speeds additionally you don't have to worry about getting canceled.

Bump. Anyone? To the above, I am aware of the PRL write process. I have gotten 00002 PRL working resulting in VZW 3G force roam. I am looking for a "1 touch" shortcut so I can perform the operation while driving.

Bump again. Please anyone? Even just ideas instead of concrete solutions? If I am not posting in the right area/site to get these questions answered, where should I post them?

[Q] Cell Signal/Network Registration Loss

My problem in short: Cell signal loss
More info: It started in late November pretty suddenly. One day I was no longer getting the 2-3 bars of 4G reception I had always been getting at work, at my desk. I would either get the ‘No Service’ symbol or 1-2 bars with no E/G/4G/LTE symbol next to the bars, which (I believe) signifies I’m registered to the network and communicating with it. For the first week or two I thought maybe they were working on the tower(s) in the area and I just needed to wait it out. After 2 weeks I started searching the XDA forums for people with similar problems but didn’t see anyone with symptoms exactly like mine. I did go get a new SIM Card form an AT&T store and called CS to activate it but that changed nothing. So I’ll put all my symptoms out and hopefully one of you glorious devs can layout my best course of action House M.D. style.
Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II (SGH-i317)
Network: AT&T
Purchase Date: Nov 18, 2012 (out of warranty)
Baseband ver: I317UCUBMK6
Kernel ver: 3.0.31-2048209, [email protected] #1, Tue Nov 19 16:46:45 KST 2013
Build Number: JSS15J.I317UCUBMK6
SE for Android status: Enforcing, SEPF_SAMSUNG-SGH-I317_4.3_0010
IMEI/IMEISV: Both numbers are whole and match the inside sticker.
OS History: Completely stock until early Dec 2013 when I was on 4.1.2 and rooted using Odin/CWM Recovery about 2 weeks after my problems started b/c I was gonna try some of the things I read on XDA (SELinux to Passive, RIF/Modem, Repartition, ect)but before I had the chance I saw the 4.3 OTA Update was out and thought “This should at least reflash/update my modem and hopefully fix it”. NOPE, I lost root with 4.3. So now I’m on 4.3 Stock OTA and the only reason I haven’t re-rooted is because I know I’ll trip KNOX which even though I’m out of warranty already, whining to AT&T that their 4.3OTA screwed up my phone maybe still an option if any of you guys suggest it as my best option (but they could more easily refute my claim if I trip KNOX). I’ve also tried at least 5 different APN settings which made little or no difference.
Additional Symptoms:
- The problem is more a “degradation” (worsening) of the signal than a complete loss, meaning in areas where my signal was previously ‘weak’ I now get the ‘no service’ symbol OR 1-2 bars without Network Registration which still gives me the “Emergency Calls Only” message. But in areas where I usually had near perfect reception (5 bars 4GLTE) I now get usually 1-2 bars less.
- There are times at work (usually when I’m one of the last ones on the floor) when my signal will fluctuate to a 3-4 bar 4G connection for a few minutes and then back down to ‘No Service’.(Which indicated to me that it isn’t a bad antenna since a good reception IS possible and the problem is likely software related.) Also my cubicle mate a has an AT&T iPhone 5 that consistently gets 3 bars of 4G and his phone is 5ft away from mine.
- If I go to About Device>Status and watch my ‘Signal Strength’ without moving my phone it will fluctuate from -95dBm 7asu to -113dBm 0 asu.
- I’ve made a successful call(although it took forever to connect the call and start ringing, as if it were struggling) while my signal was -105dBm and 5asu with “Mobile Network Type: Unknown” “Service State: In Service” “Mobile Network State: Disconnected” with one bar of service but w/o any type of connection type designator next to the bars(E/G/4G/etc).
- Sometimes when I leave work or someplace that I have had poor/no connection and get closer to a cell tower, my signal bars will go as high as 5 bars but my phone still won’t make a call or show a connection type designator (4G/LTE/Etc.) next to the bars and gives me the “Emergency Calls Only” message until I either restart the phone or wait.
- When I’m at home and connected to my WiFi my phone seems to make no attempt to stay connected to the Cell Network even though I have 4-5 bars of service it shows no type of 4G/LTE connection unless I turn off WiFi.
- I should say that I use an app that takes frequent screenshots which are stored on the phone’s storage until I erase them. (up to 300-500 @ about 1MB each) I’ve read pushing/pulling lots of data to/from your device’s storage can cause partition problems and I imagine creating/deleting large amounts of data as I’m doing could have the same effect.
- Also if I’m sent a voicemail while without service I still won’t immediately get it when I my phone regains a decent connection and have gotten voicemails up to 2 hrs after they were left.
From what I’ve read on the forums so far I have seen the following options but would like a recommendation on what to do and what order to do them in. (I have no worries about tripping KNOX if it means getting the phones cell reception back to normal. I’ve had the phone >1yr anyway.)
- Root (which method?)
- Unlock bootloader
- RIF (Radio/Modem Reflash?)
- Re-partition the device storage
- Set SELinux to Passive
- Enable AWS (T-mobile 3g/4g)
- Install Custom ROM (suggestions?)
- EFS file something or other
Thanks in advance and I’ve included a few screenshots of the About Device>Status screen.

CWM AT&T i317 UCUBMK6 Stock *Modem* Note 2
Need custom recovery to flash.
INSTALLING TWRP 2.6.3.1
- Run Odin3 v3.07.exe
Download Link http://www.mediafire.com/download/772dlmuaxfgm0x2/Odin307.zip
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Plug into a RELIABLE usb port and a RELIABLE usb cable (preferably the white Samsung cable) and wait for it to show up in Odin (COM5 or something like that)
- Click the PDA slot in Odin and locate the openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar that you downloaded.
The filename that goes into the PDA Slot is openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar
MAKE SURE IN THE OPTION AREA ONLY AUTO REBOOT AND F.RESET TIME ARE CHECKED!!!
- Click START and wait. It will complete and reboot.
- Re-partition the device storage
Extreme at this point
- Set SELinux to Passive
This will keep Knox quiet after rooting.
No need at this time
- Enable AWS (T-mobile 3g/4g)
You're on ATT correct ????
- Install Custom ROM (suggestions?)
Many choices. Depends what you are looking for
- EFS file something or other
Another extreme option. Hold off
Give modem flash a shot.

Thank you for your quick response and sorry I've taken so long to come back.
So I installed TWRP per the instructions and installed the app as well. When i tried to use TWRP to flash/install the .zip package for the modem using TWRP it either doesnt work or is interupted by the phone booting into CWM Recovery. I also atempted to flash using CWM Recovery and the "install from external" option but it the process ends in an error as follows:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
So as my phone sits now, I have both Busybox and SuperUser apps installed. Both TWRP AND CWM Recovery installed (should i get rid of something? so they aren't 'stepping on each other',and how would i do that. And im pretty sure i tripped KNOX somewhere along the way b/c it's reading as 1(I was out of warranty anyway).
I'm willing to do anything and everything to this phone if it gets my modem/radio working 100% again.
Also, what is the best method/app/storage location to create a fail safe/backup in case i brick my phone somewhere along the way due to my inexperience?
Thanks in advance.

You can only have one installed at a time, either TWRP or CWM. They both install a recovery.img. If you install TWRP, and then install CWM. TWRP gets over written.
Both are good custom recovery. It comes down to personal preference when using it. Both are touch capable.
Both have backup capabilites.
I think TWRP is a good starter. Here's a good guide to review.
http://www.addictivetips.com/android/what-is-twrp-how-to-install-use-it-on-android-devices-guide/
It's an older version but good info. It also shows how to do a backup. It's good to backup to the external SDCARD. That way you can copy the TWRP directory to your PC and save backups "offline".
I have TWRP version 2.6.3.1 installed on my phone. I'm going to try and flash the modem. You may have just gotten a corrupt download.
EDIT: I just flashed that modem zip file through TWRP and it was successful.
So the modem flashed successfully (using TWRP) but the signal didn't improve. If the phone would just stay registered to the cell tower it's getting a signal from that would be a step in the right direction but not only does the signal strength fluctuate, network registration is an issue as well so unless the stars align my phone is useless. So what should i try next? different modem? If I do everything i can to eliminate a sotware problem i have no problem trying to replace the modem/radio/antenna but i've read those parts are hard to find since its a rare hardware problem. TIA

[How To][Guide] Att Apn List
You're going to add another cell network connection. How to do that is on the top on first post.
The first one is what you should be on. The default.
Try adding in the second one. The LTE. Let's see what that does.

Thanks. I tried all 6 different APN's and no change. I did this before i flashed the modem as well and it didn't make a difference then either. Whats next?
I'm experiencing signal degredation at home now. When the phone was new I always had 5 bars LTE (i must live near a tower) and then when the troubles started in Nov. it went down to 4 bars and now in this past week it been 2-4 bars of just 4G.

Running out of options in my head. Try this app and see what network connection is doing. Just ran across is cleaning up my crap.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cls.networkwidget
I just tried it and but info is over my head. Pretty much.
It's a widget. Pop on home screen. Then press widget. Window pops up and a tab says my network info.
So are you experiencing any issues besides noticing the bars aren't as strong?

Here are a couple other apps you can try that may help track down signal quality and external factors (like tower changes in your area):
Network Signal Info - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet
^^Has a pro version as well with a supposedly better database of cell towers
Open Signal - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal
^^Has a map of cell towers as well as a crowdsourced map of coverage quality by carrier
I am experiencing the exact same symptoms mentioned by kodiak0385 but on the Rogers network using the Canadian I317M version. Unless I am well within 1000 feet from a tower my phone wont grab LTE speeds. More than a 3000 feet and I lose all signal whatsoever.
My phone was network unlocked using the service menu 6 months ago with no issues until now. Was using carbon 4.3 Rom for 2 months when the problem began.
Tried flashing all three rogers modems.
Changed APNs.
Reverted to stock Rogers 4.1, 4.2 and now on 4.3 with same problem.
Changed SIM card.
Tried opening up phone to clean antennae contacts with compressed air.
Nothing has worked.
I don't know what else to try before sending it in to a repair shop. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!
I have the same issue as well with cell reception. Everything works great. Data, WiFi, and SMS/MMS. Calls are crap. I have had 4-5 bars and It will dial and stay in the dialing screen for 1 minute and then the signal will dissappear and the phone will just hang up. After it hangs up service is returned. Idk what the heck is going on. It has to be the cell network issue. I tried my sim in a different phone and it works perfectly. Im on Straight Talk. Never had a problem untill the 4.3 update with knox.
