Android P navigation buttons - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I've seen that the navigation buttons for Android P are different. After the update I had the new navigation buttons but after putting the PIN and lock screen my navigation buttons came back to Android O.
Anyone knows if there's any option where I can change it? I've looked everywhere and couldn't find.
Picture is attached
Thanks for your help

I just installed the Android P Beta and ran into the same issue. But I was able to get the new gesture based nav bar permanently by doing the following:
Navigate to Settings > System > Gestures
Then scroll down to "Swipe up on home button" and it permanently enables the new nav bar.

Thanks !!!

Now we just need a way to move the back button to the right side. Anyone tried the trick that worked on O?

I'm hoping someone knows how to make a mod that will go back if you swipe it to the left.

[Q] Power button menu home button?

Just got the SGIII and my GNex is now my 16 month old daughters learning device. We installed a whole bunch of baby stuff but the problem is she keeps hitting the home button and exiting the app.
The phone is rooted and I am running the Nova launcher so I could remove all the navbar buttons... But then I won't be able to exit some apps if there isn't a built in exit option...
My idea was to add a HOME button to the power button menu. That way I would have a way to exit but my daughter shouldn't be able to figure it out so easily. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I'm running Codename Android ROM but I'd change if there was one that would work better.
Also, does anyone know how to disable the google search option when you drag your finger up from the bottom... I can't stand it, I always seem to do it by mistake myself.
Thanks,
Jim
i dont think this is possible..
Ok I figured as much. Any other ideas how I could hide home button but still have access to it via some other means?

This sounds exactly what you're after. It lets you remove/restore the navbar from the power menu, preventing unwanted exits.

[Q] onscreen navigation buttons

Is there anyway to enable the nav bar on the amazon fire phone ?
When I still used the LG E980 (G Pro) with Cyanogenmod 12. I can easily add a line of command on the build.pro file and then there will be the soft-nav-button. Is this available for amazon fire phone ?
Can anyone help, please? If yes, this would be awesome
I have just been using the no root version of Back Button by ogapps. Which makes a floating or pop up navigation bar using the built in accessibility options. Back Button is the only one I found so far that doesn't trigger the TTS bug where it starts reading all the text on the screen.
Go Launcher has a Back and Menu button integrated into the launcher. The only problem is that the menu bar covers the home button, but you can use the physical button.
what I mean is the actual nav bar like the nexus 5

Cool, thanks! Can't believe they have mirrored as default.
It's the "classic layout" of the buttons. Also today it's still the "Samsung layout".
I've been using Samsung devices so long that it's the layout I'm used to and I get confused when the Back button is on the left.

App or zip to reverse nav keys ?

I prefer my Back button on the right side of the phone, and Recent key on the left. Is there a simple zip I can flash to swap the Nav Keys ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
I'm using Custom Navigation Bar from the play store. It's just let's you move the buttons and a few other little things. Simple, clean, and straight forward. Doesn't need root but does require a simple ADB permission command run from a computer.

I also use custom nav bar.
I've used it with root and without it's a great app also has other features like keyboard switcher.

Can confirm. I can also set new buttons on the far left and/or right side as keynodes for "Power" to turn off the screen without using the actual button so I don't wear it out.

DP5 and Gestures Navigation

I just installed the OTA for DP5. I was prompted to accept a permission for Google Fit, and then my navigation buttons reverted to the old 8.1 style (triangle, circle, square). Anyone have this happen to them? How can I get the gestures navigation back?
Go to settings > system > gestures > Swipe up on home button and activate that.
