How's the audio quality through headphones after update? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys I like to listen to my music loud and I have a HTC 10 and I am planning to get the Note 5 pro. However at first this phone received some bad reviews due to bad sound quality, then Xiaomi released an update to fix this issue. Has there been any real improvement in loudness after this update? Please leave your opinions and if there's any workaround to fixing this audio quality issue. Thanks!

I am giving this review by taking into the account that you pay for the music.
Nougat:
Audio Quality: If you disabled the headphone customization, the quality remains above average. If you turn on the customization, it will just increase the bass and little bit of stage area.
Oreo Build:
Much better. But still problem with headphone customization remain same.

Crackling Audio?

When I initially switched from my Galaxy Nexus to the S4 I was amazed by how good the sound quality was. The overall noise level has dropped to just about everything and the bliss of finally having a decent audio experience made me happy. I'm now starting to notice high amounts of noise when playing songs with emphasized bass lines. This song for instance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udsaOEdBvL4
The initial drum hits sound like absolute crap coming out of the S4 now. At first I thought maybe my headphones were going so I swapped them back to my Gnex to make sure, sounds great on the Gnex.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Apparently it's a known issue that effects all units, terrific.

M9 boomsoumd speakers seem to be really low

I've owned the M8 and finally decided to get the M9 and the Boomsound speakers seem to be a let down so far.
I have it set to Music mode and full volume and can barely hear anything. My wife Lg G4 and Sisters Note 4 seem to o be a lot louder. Any fix?

Try to switch from Dolby Theatre to Dolby Music.
If you got root then install Viper4Android and boost the speaker with the tweaks, but it looks like HTC have put a hardware limiter, so above a certain level of tweaking the speakers will keep the same volume, it's still better than stock volume though.

Has anybody tried the first link (Dolby Atmos) with Viper Rom? Any side effects besides battery drain? Glitches?
I installed the second link mod (Dragon soundmod)..No Luck. The boomsound speakers are NOT loud at all. I love the dual speakers but I prefer the loudness of the Lg G4 back speaker.
With the name BOOMSOUND and all the praises reviewers give this phones speakers, I expected more.
I prefer some quality with my loudness.
Try a song with a higher bit rate or a higher grade video with decent audio quality. You'll see that it is actually loud, HTC just haven't allowed people to break their speakers, something which has happened time and time again since the m7. In terms of audio quality its still the best there is, in terms of loudness, no there's phones out there, including the iPhone 6 with louder speakers. Maybe they could have given more. I'm still happy with it. if I was upset I'd use a mod, but if its going to affect the battery then no I wouldn't bother. Acid mod was good iirc

Are you sure you don't have a hardware problem? Saying "I can barely hear them" strikes me as odd. My speakers aren't deafening, and they're certainly not as loud as a dedicated portable speaker (I have the HK One and use that often), but the M9 is definitely louder than other phones I've seen. My son has a G3 and is always telling he wishes he had the M9 speakers on his.
You might take it back to the store and compare with a floor model.

thats what i was thinking about doing. I just watched a video on youtube that compares the HTC M9 to the Xperia Z3, GS6 and iphone 6. The HTC didn't hit as high on the decibel scale as the GS6, so i dont think its a hardware issue but im definitely gonna stop by a tmobile or something and compare.
i installed the dolby atmos mod and it is better than it used to be.

Yeah, the biggest let down is the volume of the M9 IMO..... It sounds better, but just isn't as loud. I use mine all the time around the office or at home when doing some things around the house and don't want to use my Bluetooth speaker or ear-buds, so the lower volume killed that option for me.
I started using the Dolby Atmos (first link) on my M9 last week..... Made a world of difference! You get a slight volume boost, plus more global EQ options and it works along with the stock Dolby/Boomsound of the M9. I don't really notice much of a drain, unless I'm doing nothing but listening to music, and at that it's maybe an extra percentage or two per hour. When not using it, I can't tell a difference? You can also turn it off/bypass it. If you don't like it, you can flash the remove zip to take it off.
There's an option in it called "Volume Leveler" that really increases the volume, but you can hear some "funky" compression kick in on loud parts and some distortion..... but for general listening, it works best as a volume boost. I'm actually afraid to turn it up 100% in that mode for the sake of blowing a speaker?
I have the same issue but on comparison to an m7 they are exactly the same. If any difference the m9 is clearer but if you're not too good at hearing then you might not notice any difference at all.

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Nextbit Robin's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Compared to the HTC One M7, the speakers on the Nextbit Robin are not as loud or clean. The low-end cuts out a little at max volume, distortion can be heard at louder volumes. It has a slightly hollow sounding quality, as if the sound is echoing in the body. While better than many smartphone speakers due to it being front-facing stereo setup, it's not as refined as HTC's offerings.
Best use scenario for the speakers are for podcasts, YouTube videos, and light gaming. Music aficionados or those who spend a significant time consuming video content without headphones may want to demo the unit before considering a purchase.
Speakers are very bad! At 80% volume they distort and crackle. Even some ring tones crackle at full volume. Very disappointed.
The speakers sound extremely bad. And the sound output itself too. It probably has to do with the software though, because there is no way it can sound this bad without doing something wrong with the software. Honestly, I get sick listening to the speakers. They have this extremely weird effect on the sound that makes the speakers sound like crap.
was fine, then recent update made min volume incredibly loud!
hopefully next update will fix it
I am currently testing the next update... The volume ramp up had been fixed! It's so much better now. We plan on releasing it soon, but we still need more testing done as well as certification through Google, so it will take some time. Thanks for everyone's patience!

Ringtone / Speaker Volume really low ?

Hi all
Earlier i was going to buy a 2nd hand Pixel XL 128GB version.
I noticed that the ringtone volume and speaker sound is really low, my question is, can this be fixed via Rooting the phone ? & will it affect the speakers in any way ?
Thank you very much :cyclops::fingers-crossed:
Normal sound level is actually pretty good, but I must agree when one uses a custom ringtone like a mp3, for some reason it rings too low as much as you will have problems hearing it when it is in your pocket or bag or purse whatever.
As for the increasing sound level, some mods like viper can increase sound output to a desired level but it can also slowly degrade your speakers too, which I think not a big issue(I used it in my Nexus 6 for 2 years and as for 3rd year it still rocks.)
And ofc you will be needing root.

Galaxy Buds, Buds+ Set up

Install the Galaxy Wearable and Galaxy Buds software.
Update software and Buds firmware, this is important because the old versions sound sucks.
Turn on/go to Developer Options in Settings and on the Bluetooth Codec setting toggle on Samsung's "Scalable Codec".
The new software corrects a long standing (Note 9) settings misconfiguration in advance audio settings.
You shouldn't hear (or even see the toggle for it) this happen anymore.
Retoggle codec in Developers Options, reset the Wearable and/or Network settings (if needed) if the sound or performance goofs up.
Clearing the System Cache can sometimes clear up gremlins too.
The current firmware and software version work very well and sound great.
I use Poweramp for my player with it's equalizer enable and lower bass bands cranked up with Wearable set to Dynamic most times.
Galaxy Wearables just pushed out another software update.
I'm running on Pie and the Galaxy Buds are sounding more solid then ever.
About time.
Going upgrade to Buds + soon. Dual drivers... better sound and a new price cut
The Buds are sounding pretty good though.
Buds Live... no; the original design works well.
Picked up a pair of the red Buds+ for $107 (intl version)
Slightly heavier than the original but otherwise the appearance is almost identical as is the wings, earpieces and body of the Buds.
The case charger is interchangeable with the original Buds as are the silicon pieces.
It come with a new control panel and runs separately from the older Buds control panel. This software is not interchangeable.
First order of business is to update the software; if Wearables is already loaded it will auto-update once you couple the new Buds+ via bt and add the Buds+ control panel.
Time to update the Buds+ firmware.
Galaxy Store must be enable for this and for software updates.
Do firmware updates with the case open, it took me about 2 minutes; these flashed much faster than the origin Buds.
Sit it on a table and have the phone nearby. Take a break... you want a clean flash.
Never interrupt a firmware update in progress, it can toast a Bud(s).
The menu in Wearables will grey out during the firmware flash to the Buds and go back to normal when update is complete*.
Still playing with these, so far, so good. Don't have the sound dailed yet.
Make sure the sound equalizer in Advance Sound Settings in turn off; the Bud's software toggled it on. That was a surprise.
I use the Poweramp equalizer. Not sure why it did that otherwise no glitches.
The equalizer settings on the new control differ from the old.
The sound profile is different for the new Buds as well.
Cleaner sound but less deep bass than I like... still playing with them. Volume level setting/db is very similar to the original.
Battery life is excellent and the app is running clean with no excessive battery consumption.
Range is also excellent.
Not in a signal congested area so can't comment on that.
Controls aren't sorted out; may have some conflicts there because of my Poweramp settings. Or maybe it's just stupid fingers... fun times
Buds + are excellent and better than live IMHO. More battery life and sound is up to particularly. Got em day 1.

Yeah they are.
•A cool new feature was added to the new Wearables apk for the plus's; it now shows case charge level
Calls are crystal clear.
Less muddy in the mid bass to lower bass range than the original. Holds up better on complex tracks, vocals sound more solid.
Way too much emphasis on midrange and highs though especially at 1K (a known hot spot for these).
Tweeking them in now with Poweramp... without Poweramp I wouldn't be liking them.
Remember to turn off the damn Dolby to dail them in, lol.
Current EQ profile*:
*its already changed twice since this image... this will take some time.
Wearables EQ set to normal, no Dolby.
First I used the app Neutralizer to develop a real time device/hearing sensitivity profile.
I starting tweaking in the Poweramp equalizer using this as a rough template to help set up the equalizer.
Don't like the sound I get using Neutralizer (it's suppose to be a stand alone solution), in fact after I'm done the profile I package block this apk because it messes up the volume levels even when not turn on.
Still playing with it... sounding better. I have about 2 dozen equalizer profiles that I can flip through to compare the sound now. Below is my base template derived from the Neutralizer results which are also shown.
Still playing with the 100 hz to 1 khz range; that range is critical to vocals.
Playing with that and the stuff in the 2-8 khz range as well. At this point it's perception and personal taste, I'll repeat the same track segment multiple times to see which of the new profiles sounds best.
Very easy to do this with Poweramp.
With the Buds seal is everything. Any air leakage kills the bass badly. Too tight though will prove to be uncomfortable.
A very small amount of coconut oil every day or helps to seal and also to prevent outer ear infections ie swimmer's ear. Wipe the Buds after each use.
Remember you screw these in to position not just push.
Just about there... this seems pretty close. Might jack up the 31 and 62Hz sliders up more though. This profile falls apart on the Who album Live at Leeds/My Generation so...
Eventually will have about half a dozen presets that should cover most of the albums I have. Poweramp let's you assign an eq profile per song.
The Buds+ definitely sound better and the new Wearables app has been improved as well.

Samsung just pushed out yet another software update to Buds+ Wearable app.
They added experimental "Labs".
The Bud+'s seem to be more responsive than the first generation. Link up fast... they're snappy.
Sound Q is a definite upgrade but they need a good equalizer... makes a huge difference.
Liking these little red devils.
I recommend Poweramp if you have a lot of audio files; minimum mp4 preferably wav, HDCD or higher resolution.
With mp3's the bass cut off is around 60hz... that sucks.
I'm hearing a lower bass roll off around 25hz.
Using Dolby trashes them out especially the lower bass ranges. Dolby's never was great; a good sign...
The Buds+ are an all around upgrade from the original Buds. Cleaner sound and better definition.
Samsung is putting some serious ongoing effort into both firmware and software with excellent results.
The original Buds got off to a very rocky start, not so with these devils, they rock
About time Sammy...
I am thinking about getting the buds+, how big or little is the lag when playing games? I mostly use hedphones for this, wired ones, I mean, but I am afraid the usb port would get extra-wear this way

I have the same concern with the port especially with headphones as one tends to handle the phone from the bottom. What a mess.
Not for sure about the lag time. Sometimes notice a bit on movies, usually not.
Lol, I have one vid game, Tail Gunner Charlie and they seem ok on that. There may be a slight delay but it's not very noticeable on this game if present.
For a Samsung which is the only brand that supports Scalable codec these are a good choice. The only audio upgrade codec wise are Sony LDAC bt devices. Their sound is superior but they're not as wearable as the Buds.
The Buds simply never fall out and twist in easily.
Samsung boned us here by not supporting the best bt HD codecs on the 10+ bt chipset
However they've made substantial firmware and software improvements for the Buds. The latest rolled out about week ago.
The Buds+ are an all around upgrade and can be had for around $100.
The original Buds and their firmware were shaky; midbass was especially bad. Somewhat improved now.
nevermind lol, found it
Samsung just pushed out the latest Buds+ firmware update.
Sample some .wav and HDCD songs through Poweramp with a custom EQ profile, no Dolby and Wearables EQ disabled.
Wow.
Vocals, male and female are crystal clear; midrange bass and up has been improved.
Using a tone generator 25 hz is audible but below that it breaks up.
30 hz is solid and after that the decibels rapidly come up.
The EQ slider for 30 hz is at its max on Poweramp and it gives it the bump it needs.
Definitely engaging and fun to listen too.
For a Franklin you will not get a better bt Bud for Samsung phones in part because no one else supports SSC and the Sony ones using LDAC aren't near this price range.
The original Buds never sounded this good...
Note: if after updating firmware/software you start getting undulating like fluctuations on complex music extending into the lower bass...
>Do a network reset <
It sounded great after the update but flipped to nasty*.
Not sure what triggered this but a flush fixes it.
They should sound great after this last update.
*very noticeable on Julie London's Why Don't You Do Right on the bass cello. Sounded plain raspy; a reset fixed it.
How do I do a network reset?
In setting>connections>more connections (Pie)
Pretty painless.
Samsung rolled out yet another software update for Wearables about 5 days ago.
Samsung rolled out yet another Buds+ firmware update.
Definite upgrade. They continue to tweak their algorithms.
John Fogerty's /110 in the Shade the mid to low range bass is tight.
The choppiness I sometimes noticed is gone.
More presence; individual instruments stand out more and vocals are sounding real good.
American Woman/The Best of the Guess Who, an HDCD is sounding real good, punchy and tight.
Bye-bye mediocre firmware... gonna have some sugar tonight.
Sammy got it right
Had to do a network reset because of bt audio gremlins after I rebooted after the firmware update. Cleared data in Wearables, cleared system cache as well. It worked.
The Buds+ are quit the ride.
Sounding great again for music albeit some heavy equalizer shaping via Poweramp.
Wearables WQ set to normal with Dolby disabled.
This is one of my many Poweramp EQ profiles.
It works well on many but not all songs in my music library.
Notice the roll off between bands is smooth and incremental. This generally sounds best. This profile is purposely heavily bass biased with a negative attenuation after 1khz to kill excessive brightness of the Buds+. Long listening sessions don't fatigue my hearing at reasonable listening levels. I may bump down the 31 and 62 bands a bit... depending how I like it better. Vocals are clear and instruments are sounding good. I listen mostly to R&R...
Adjust according your hearing and taste; what sounds great to me might sound like dog meat to y'all
Another profile that I now use a lot.
*Note that the clipping limiter -is- enabled!
