Needing help with QFIL - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

Hi, I need help about relock bootloader and restoring stock rom with QFIL, basically I need to go back to full stock to enable VoLTE.
I read in many threads to flash a version prior to the ZUI 3.5 with QFIL and next to flash the 3.5 version with QFIL, why?
Why I need to flash a previous version than 3.5 QFIL? Can I flash directly the 3.5 QFIL file?
Thank you.

Here I see a 3.5 QFIL(QPST) and in the instructions is written to flash 2.5 previous, why?
If you did this already, have you flashed 2.5 first?

this is Not the stable version, actually its a ota Of dev version but flashable with qpst if you directly flash this version your device will not boot or you may bricked your device.

Oh, now I undestrand, so in my case I just need to install 2.5 and next re-unlock and flash a TWRP (I guess).
Many thanks

For going back to stock, following is what I do.
1. Flashing that vendor to factory ZIP for becoming non treble in case I am running AEX or such treble ROM.
2. Flashing 1.9 Chinese ROM first via QFIL
3. Flashing latest Indian (2.5) or Chinese (3.5) via QFIL.
Works for me.
Gives me locked bootloader, stock recovery and ROM. Basically back to bone stock phone.

Yes, you're right, to lock bootloader the 1.9 rom must be flashed first.
And next if you don't want to use QFIL you can install an OTA package directly from phone.

HTC M8 cannot update to android 6.0. Please Help

Hello,
I have a HTC M8 rooted (Super SU) with TWRP Recovery and Android ver. 5.0.1, Software ver. 4.19.111.4, Baseband ver. 1.25.2145000021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F.
Last couple of days, I received a notification to update for android 6.0, but after I downloaded the update and press to "install now", the phone always restarted to TWRP recovery and do not install the update. Any Idea Why ?!!!.
Could any one help me to install the update?
Thanks

Replace the recovery to stock recovery and relock the bootloader. If you installed the modified firmware, reflash the stock firmware, you will be good

Here you should find the stock recoveries: http://www.andromods.com/download-files/htc-one-m8-stock-recovery-verizon-sprint-att-tmobile.html
download the right recovery.img file and follow these instruction on how to flash - http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-via-fastboot/ - in this just change the twrp recovery.img to the one you downloaded and run the code in command prompt.
It is recommended to do I clean install to avoid any further reported errors. Once you relock the bootloader you will lose all the data (like hard reset).

Thanks again for the info.
Unfortunately, I could not find the right stock recovery in the link you provided, so I use another one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860.
However, I have to ask, if I am on stock firmware; only rooted through SuperSU and with TWRP recovery,
do I need to reinstall (reflash) or restore to sotck firmware as in steps # 7 to 9 in the post (link) I added, or
can I directly flash the stock recovery and then relock the bootloder and start downloading the update 6.0
Thank.

First thing .. you cannot do OTA with a rooted stock ROM, you need a non-rooted ROM.
Secondly .. there is no need to relock bootloader - read the note in my thread.
Just read again post #1 and follow all the 14 steps, you should be fine.
Anything, you can ask in my thread as I'm not following your thread.

Basic Answers to Flashing procedure

Hey guys, I am new to whyred , flashed alot on other phones tho. Got some questions regarding the process of things I have to do to not mess up. I would do it like this:
0. I am on 9.5.19. miui global stable.
1. Unlock bootloader after 360 hours (hopefully)
2. Boot into Fastboot, boot up twrp image via command and then flash twrp via twrp.
3. Do I have to flash lazyflasher when I flash magisk? Which version of magisk is recommended atm? 1600?
4. After flashing one (or both, I don't know) I would go with flashing aosip or havoc (which is better on battery, features and over all performance?).
5. Do I have to flash some firmware or anything?
6. Since I am on Anti 4 (probably, didn't check yet but I am quite sure since I updated on 9.5.19) do I have to be aware of something else important?
Thank you guys for every help. If my answers will get answered and everything runs smooth sailing I will write a noob/starting guide to focus the knowledge a bit more. It seems really clustered in this forum
Do not flash any firmware for now. Since your are in 9.5.19 it has anti 4 enabled.. flashing firmware over anti 4 will brick your device.
Unlock bootloader
Boot to twrp and flash twrp
Wipe system cache dataa and flash custom ROM and gapps
Reboot to system
Reboot to twrp and flash magisk

Yes. If you are in 9.2.13 build then you have to flash firmware along with custom ROM.
But if you are running 9.5.19 build do not flash any firmware. Just ROM and gapps is enough

Yes you have to flash firmware file recommended by custom rom developer to avoid problems while using custom ROM. And its not related to anti rollback protection.
All the firmware recommended by developers doesnt have anti rollback protection but you shouldn't flash firmware file if you are using 9.5.19 stable build or 8.7.12 beta build because these build contains ARP and flashing firmware in ARP enabled device will brick your mobile

I'm a bit confused here. I have always been under the impression that firmware = ROM (with other phone brands) and they seem to be discussed interchangeably. Now with my Xiaomi Note 5 Pro, I hear about these as separate items a lot. What is the difference between firmware and the custom ROM, at least in the Xiaomi world? How do I know when I am dealing with one or the other?
TIA,

Your understanding is correct firmware is nothing but a ROM, but in custom ROM, developers dont include bootloader (In custom ROM world firmware contains bootloader related stuffs) in their OS because they will make use of bootloader from stock ROM thats why developer recommended firmware files so that their ROM works perfectly without any problem.
I might be wrong but this is how things work here. If you are on lastest global MIUI beta ROM then you dont have to flash recommended firmware file by custom ROM developer

So when people talk about flashing firmware, they're really saying to flash/change the bootloader? Does the bootloader have a name, version number we would reference, or it's just 'the bootloader for MIUI Global 9..5.19.0'?
If I understand you correctly, if someone offers a ROM with and without firmware, you could install the ROM without firmware and it would work ok, but installing with the firmware (changing the bootloader) would make the ROM work better? Or just do the ROM with firmware if you have problems with the version that didn't install the firmware/bootloader?
I'm on MIUI Global 9.5.19.0. (just normal ROM), but with unlocked bootloader, twrp, Magisk installed (I can't work without my Titanium Backup Pro!)

Most of the firmware recommended by developers contains older bootloader (Antirollback protection version 3)
Since you are in 9.5.19 your bootloader has Antirollback protection (ARP 4) so if you try to flash older firmware then your mobile will get bricked so avoid flashing any firmware recommended by developer because you already have latest bootloader
Firmware name will be based on global beta ROM version

You don't have to worry about antirollback..
Your device will be bricked if you try to flash 9.5.17 or older version
But you can flash any MIUI ROM from 9.5.19 and newer
Antirollback doesn't apply to custom ROM
Just keep two things.
Flash latest Miui ROM
Flash custom recovery (first boot into recovery and then flash recovery from recovery)
Wipe everything
Flash custom ROM
Flash gapps
Thats all
Do not flash any older firmware. Your device will not be bricked a long as you are flashing latest available miui ROM

Stock ROM with locked bootloader... I like official update (I have tried all the custom ROMs on my previous phone so )

How to get the 4.4 kernel ?

I wanted to install the Pyxis OS ROM which needs kernel 4.4 and I read that you need to install ZUI 2.5 / 3.5 to get the kernel. I installed 3.5 two times and for nothing, when I try to install the Pyxis ROM I get a bluescreen. I flashed a baseband which I found on the forum for the ROMs with 4.4 kernel but it also didn't work. Could someone tell me the steps to install properly the ZUI so I can get the kernel ? I installed the ZUI ROM with TWRP because with QFIL I can't select any port to install and I couldn't figure it out how to resolve it.

If you have then uninstall all drivers.. re- install .. then go to developer section and revoke all permission for usb debugging.. connect phone .. select mtp .. open minimal fastboot and check if device is recognised.. then go to fastboot mode.. once device in fastboot open qfil . Cant find OEM Unlock

Hi,
I restored my Zuk Z2 to stock, as I bricked it, so just wanted to start fresh.
Now I'm back with a fresh stock OS and want to hack it again and put on AOSiP 9.0 ROM.
However, once I go into Developer Options, there is no option for "OEM Unlock".
Has that option been moved? Do I need to flash another stock ROM? Can someone help me?
I used this guide to revert to stock, and I am using the ROMs they linked:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/how-to/guide-lock-bootloader-avail-warranty-t3694883
Thanks.

If your bootloader has been locked, then you need to unlock it again with a PC ?
I believe the process to unlock the bootloader begins by going into Developer Options and enabling "OEM Unlock". Then you do the rest with a PC.
Is this correct?

OH ok, my mistake.
BTW, I'm on official FW ZUI 2.0.133 ST. Is that the latest? Or does it matter if I'll be switching to AOSiP?
Read this:

It says I need to flash 3.5 first, but those two firmware give me an error in MiFlash saying they're invalid format. They flash in QFIL but give me a brick, hence my original issue.
Thanks.

1) now you have unlock bootloader?
2) ZUI 2.0.133 its not the latest its ZUI 4.0xxx
Flash with qfil the ZUI v1.9 CN and after that use OTA to go in the last ZUI after that unlock bootloader flash twrp and your are ready to flash any ROM you want.
Yes actually I have flashed again and used OTA to get to 4.x but it's still the same issue.
I am also currently trying to flash a ROM on another phone and I was told I can't use the latest TWRP (3.3.0.0) as it uses "Toybox", so I have to use the previous version of TWRP (3.2.3.0).
I am starting to think it is the same issue here, so I will try downgrade TWRP and try again.
