have i bricked it? :( - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

i was trying some custom roms to check them out and somehow i ended up with this situation: the fastboot mode is not working when i start the phone in fastboot mode it isnt recognized and it reboots by itself after some seconds, the adb slideload function is not working, there is no os installed on the phone currently nor do i have one stored in the phone so i can flash it with twrp. The only clue i have for you guys is that when i try to advance wipe the phone it show this error: mkfs.fat process ended with ERROR: 1 Unable to wipe USB-OTG Unable to wipe /usb-otg........ is it fixable??? what can i do????? it seems that i cant find a way to tranfer a rom to storage so i can flash it and get the phone to work please help!!!!!

If TWRP still works stop wiping everything and buy an USB-C OTG device. Basically a dongle on which you can make your phone read from an USB-stick and flash from there.

Phone screwed ? Can't mount SD / emergency calls only

Ok, where to begin:
I Rooted this weekend and have been installing a few roms, all has been fine. This afternoon I tried to partition a fresh SDcard using the windows-recover.bat method to allow apps2sd and that (I believe) is where it all went wrong.
When I rebooted the phone it went into a boot loop, never getting past the HTC logo.
So I factory reset from the HBOOT menu and it still looped, until I put a new SD card in - then it loads ok (I'm using Defrost 2.41d) but after the initial set up it says emergency calls only - I manually select Orange (the phone is a factory unbranded/unlocked CPW handset) - it says it's not allowed to connect - won't connect using my T-Mobile sim either.
It also says the SDcard isn't mounted no matter what SDcard I try (tried 4x).
I've tried booting into recovery and installing a zip from the SDcard so try and install a new ROM and it fails saying unable to mount SDcard.
I have also done a cache wipe, and basically any other option that sounds like a wipe type option from within the Recovery menu on HBOOT/Clockword MOD.
I'm lost, if I can't access the SDcard in any way then I'm screwed and can't reflash.
Any ideas gratefully received...
have you tried pushing a rom to the phone from your computer? or unrooting with an official HTC RUU ROM and starting again?
also search the "USB bricked" stuff on the desire android development forum...
Thanks for the advice
I'm trying to push a std Official ROM but the PC just doesn't see there is a phone attached when the phone is in normal use mode, it starts to see it in HBOOT mode but then says the driver has failed etc.
Someone elsewhere has mentioned the USB brick possibility but from what little I've read it requies SDcard functionality and my phone just doesn't see ANY SDcard - even in HBOOT / Clockword MOD recovery mode.
any feedback?
could you solve the problem?

Boot Loop stuck in Animation help.

Hey everyone. I know there are already a few threads with boot loop animations, and am having difficulties finding the same situation as what I'm going through. Here is what the phone used to have before it randomly started looping:
Rooted - with Stock rom, using ClockwordMod Recovery 5.5.0.2
Used Go Launcher Theme ( if that even matters )
No additional roms installed or anything, the phone is 3 months old.
Ok here is where I'm stuck. I understand I should reflash somethings like recovery image or something, but I'm stuck with one big problem. My computer and phone don't recognize using the USB mount.
The message I get is called "Unable to open lunfile ( no such file or directory)
Here's what screens I can get to:
1. Hold vol up/down while holding power ( the little android with its belly open, and the options Start - Restart Bootloader - Recovery mode - Power Off )
2. Hold vol down - ODIN mode, with the START option only
I can access WMD recovery and factory reset, Try to install my old backup, nothing works at all in that area, no matter what I do.
Can someone advise me a step by step way of getting my computer to recognize my phone, so that I am able to do fastboot, or reflash, or anything to get my phone working again. I can't access my internal memory at all.
It's even possible that I've read too much, and my frustration is getting in the way, if so I apologize! Some guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance of course! I need my phone for business!
Cheers,
Install the drivers on a computer then use fastboot oem unlock. Or just factory reset it from within recovery.

Try my siggy.
I'm not sure about the exact error:
But the link there will get you the correct drivers.
Also, as stated...try to factory reset.
You'll lose your apps/data that way though =/
Hopefully you can get the driver installed and get your computer to recognize.
If so, follow this to back up your apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351
Have exactly the same setup as you (rooted/stock/CWM) and had the animation bootloop - animation would just loop until a battery pull.
Only thing that solved it was a factory reset from recovery. Been working fine for the 4 weeks since. No need for any reflashing etc. Titanium recoveries have all worked fine as well. Didn't try my Nandroid backup as I thought that may still have the 'fault' built in.
I had a boot loop for every from I tried to flash...wat fixed it was before flashing u need to wipe system data and wipe the cache in the recovery...ie a clean install...then every rom I tried worked...so I think ur missing that crucial step coz it worked for me

Hey guys, as stated above I've done numerous factory resets, it still seems to boot. I will for sure try to get the drivers installed so my phone is recongised by the computer, but would need step-by-step assistance when doing fastboot, or whatever the next step is.
Looking for more help though! Keep em coming!
?
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Ok guys, so here's where I'm at now. I've used Jubakuba's sticky link, located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529058
Everything is able to be recognized up to the point where it says "Put the su.zip on your phone."
Since I cannot access my phone contents, since I keep getting this "Unable to open lunfile ( no such file or directory), it does not allow me to add anything to my phone.
I re-installed CWD as stated in the list of things to do, and all that went well. But I have the same issue, I tried factory resetting all that. erase cache, and still stuck with the same issue.
What's my next step now peeps? Looking for a quick answer as I have time to do it tonight!
Edit***
Just tried this trick: but it says it does not recognize the device?? what is going on! Please help someone! Thanks!

Q: My phone won't boot!
A: The easiest option is to get into recovery and restore a nandroid using the above guide (pull battery to put phone in an off-state if needed).
However, more advanced options are available if you don't have a nandroid available (You're naughty).
Do you have another rom .zip available on your SD card? If so, simply use the above guide for installing a rom to get you booting again.
If not, you can download one on your PC. Boot into fastboot (the green Android with open chest menu).
Move the .zip to the C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder.
Open ADB.
Change the NAMEOFZIP.zip below to the correct file name...and perform the action.
Surely your computer recognizes your phone. Otherwise how were you able to unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery?
And I've never seen that error message before. It doesn't even make any sense to me. Where are you seeing it? On your phone or on your computer? And in what context? What are you trying to do when it shows up?
If your phone isn't booting I'm not sure that you can copy any files to it yet. (Maybe you can use adb in clockworkmod? I'm not sure) What I do know you can do is flash the stock ROM and start over.
Download the image from Google here:

Here's a instructions for the GSM version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806
For the Verizon version, I can't find the thread at the moment but you just replace the filenames and also there's 2 radios to flash so:
fastboot flash radio *filename*
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio-cmda *filename*
"Unable to open lunfile ( no such file or directory) appears on the phone, in CWD mode, when trying to attempt "mount Usb" to be able to access my internal storage .
I am attempting your thoughts right now.
I will post with results
Ok I tried to do this step. This is the outcome I received on the computer after even typing the first step:
'fastboot-windows' is not recognized as aninternal or external command, operable program or batch file.
A thing to stress, I'm not sure how to do step 1: 1) Take a Nandroid Backup if you have CWM installed.
EDIT***
GREAT NEWS!
used this setup!
http://android.modaco.com/topic/348161-01-feb-r4-superboot-rooting-the-gsm-lte-galaxy-nexus/
and it worked!
Thank you everyone! Going to play with my phone and make sure it all works!

Flashed without Correct CID

Hi Everyone,
I did a boo boo. I flashed my One X without a supported CID with the Android Revolution 14.2 ROM. Is there a way to correct this and revert back to my previous ICS? Help please.
There's a Q&A section especially for Questions and Answers, please use that in future.
That being said you wouldn't have been able to update the hboot so just reflash an ICS rom

I'm having problems moving an ICS ROM to the phone to flash it. Whenever I connect the phone to my notebook, the MTP USB device driver is unable to install. because of that Windows could not recognize the phone. I also tried to mount the sdcard in CWM. It is giving me a 'unable to open ums lunfile..." error message.
Is there any other way to flash the phone? I tried "fastboot flash zip rom.zip". It showed OKAY for the copy, however, a second line remark "writing 'zip' ... FAILED (remote not allowed)" appeared. The process then was aborted.
I also tried formatting the sdcard and then tried to mount the sdcard. Same 'unable to open ums lunfile...' error constantly appears. Just afraid that my phone is now a brick. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Install a version of CWM that isn't ancient, I.e., 5.8.4.0.
I suspect that I hard brick my phone now.
Following some advice to "fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip", not the phone is unable to even get into recovery mode. when I select recovery, it just comes back to the bootloader screen. I tried to flash CWM again and the message I got was "error: cannot load cwd....img"
Funny thing though, when i select HBOOT, some messages appears and disappears saying "Failed to open sdcard, dalvik, cache, etc. etc." I believe that is why windows is unable to recognize the USB drive and is unable to install the drivers.
Have I hard brick my phone?

No, everything is recoverable, if your phone won't turn on at all, then you're bricked for real.
Just flash the one from here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
then put in the same folder as fastboot and use command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
Thanks everyone for the advice. Really appreciate it. I finally managed to use TeamWin Projects and it allowed me to mount the USB. Managed to then transfer an ICS ROM for flashing.

Recover photos while in bootloop

Hi I'm currently facing a problem. I Connected my phone ( ZE550ML or Z008) via USB to a laptop and it rebooted all of a sudden and is in bootloop. It was not rooted and it was on 2.19.40.23. There are 6 gigs of photos on internal memory which I want to recover.
I tried fastboot flashing preroot images and recovery boot and bootdroid images. Didn't work
I tried sideloading stock image from the Asus website. Didn't work
When I go into recovery the message - failed to map file /sdcard/MOFD_SDUPDATE comes up, I saw a post that said MOFD_UPDATE, on my phone comes up different. I tried flashing the latest 2.19.40.97/8.
I also tried "adb pull / " - started pulling stuff but stops at some point.
I also tried flashing CWM and trying to mounts the internal storage as external device, didn't work.
I was also unable to mount the SD card, might have something to do with MOFD not being mapped.
Don't know if TWRP has any similar functionality but when I tried flashing any other recovery, after the process when I go into recovery itself the stock one takes over...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help - locked out of my device

I disabled encryption on my nexus 5x following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guide-how-to-install-custom-recovery-t3231143
I tried flashing a custom ROM, Chroma, and it did not work. After booting the ROM, it started showing numerous apps errors (saying the apps couldn't start). I reflashed my backed up stock ROM using TWRP, but now I can't get into the phone because my PIN isn't working (I know I'm typing it correctly, it just isn't working). I tried connecting my phone to my PC to use ADB to delete the password, but it says I'm unauthorized and will not let me delete anything.
I'm currently unable to do anything with my phone. Can someone please help me get this working? This is my only phone, and without it I'm unable to make any calls.
Have you tried booting into fastboot and flashing the stock image or trying to mount storage in twrp, adding a new rom and flashing?

I was able to download this ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-optimized-stock-rom-aroma-installer-t3285805 - and push it to the phone using ADB, after enabling USB debugging in the Chroma ROM. The phone is still telling me there "is an internal problem with my device, contact the manufacturer". Thankfully, I had another ROM on my internal storage - if I hadn't, I'm not sure how I would have been able to get into my phone, since my PIN had been lost and I couldn't enable USB debugging.
Have you ever seen the "there is an internal problem with your device, contact the manufacturer" error?
This is a problem on the 5x and 6p, where restoring backups doesn't restore the correct pin. It's recommended you simply remove phone lock security before making a backup. Here is what I found on fixing it:
srnoth said:
After restoring the Nandroid, open ADB and:
rm /data/system/locksettings.db
rm /data/system/*.key
This should remove the pattern/pin completely, you'll have to re-secure your phone after

I'm about ready to throw this phone away. I can't seem to flash anything on it without it going into a boot loop and forcing me to restore. I never had any problems flashing ROMs on my Galaxy Nexus.
I just tried flashing CM 13 on it and it went into a boot loop for some reason. I'm also getting a screen on boot up that says my device can't be checked for errors, please lock the bootloader. Any way to disable that error? And I'm still getting the "your device has internal problems" after my ROM boots.
