iPhone and Smartwatch 3 with Wear OS app - Sony Smartwatch 3
Recently I moved from Android to iOS but my SW3 is simply not as Smart as with an Android phone..
I had to install the Wear OS 3 app (Android Wear renamed app) and I noticed several changes..
But I managed to install the older version of Android Wear for iPhone (2.14.7) without the need of Jailbreak.. and it was a relatively good change.. but still with little problems.. used this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL70CLXhF9U ) ID of the last Android Wear Version (2.14.7) = 825613491 -
Here are the results using Android and both iOS versions of the Wear OS (formerly Android Wear) Apps..
--------------------------
- Notifications
(Android Wear OS)
Everything Works just Fine.. All notifications
(iOS Wear OS 3)
With Android.. I had notificacions of everything.. In iOS while the notifications start appearing.. they're added to the Wear OS App list.. so far.. so good..
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
I noticed that I had a lot of extra notifications.. (even more than android) Notifications of Other gmail mails.. Google cards.. Weather.. It's quite good.
-----------------------------------------
- Calendar (Agenda)..
(Android Wear OS)
I had all my calendar appointments on my watch on Android..
(iOS Android Wear 3)
When you go to the Wear OS app it only shows the main calendar events.. other calendars created by you will not show at all.
So.. you need a workaround.. on iOS, go to settings, accounts and passwords, select google and add your account, you can select mail, calendar, contacts and notes, select calendar (or if you want to sync the other things in iOS) and that's it. Now you can go to Wear OS app and select to sync the Apple Calendar.
Finally, select which calendars to sync here: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/syncselect
Now you're done..
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
I had to use the tweak above.. but no appointments came off... then I realized that I had no appointments in 2 days (duh!).. so.. maybe it will work just fine without it.. if you have any problem.. use the tweak above.
-------------------
- Contacts
(Android Wear OS)
All contacts appeared.. I can search them using "OK Google" and send them a message or call them..
(iOS Wear 3)
Not a single chance.. Looks like all of my contacts are gone with iOS linked to my Smartwatch 3.. so cant search them or text them or call'em
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
Same here.. no contacts at all..
----------------------------------
- iFit
(Android Wear OS)
iFit works just perfect
(iOS Wear 3)
By default, steps are disabled, go to the configuration on the SW3, permissions, Fit and enable the sensors.
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
iFit works just fine.. maybe you need to enable the steps using the tweak above.. but you'll also receive notifications of your steps at certain period of time.. (this didn't appear in the Android version.. or maybe I had it disabled..)
------------------
- Music
(Android Wear OS)
Can change song.. volume.. and see the song info..
(iOS Wear 3)
Not working..
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
Had to update to iOS 11.3.1 and reinstalled Android Wear 2.14.7 on my iPhone.. and after killing the music app, the watch appeared to have control of the music app..
Workaround if not working immediately: I had to unlink bluetooth from iphone to smartwatch, then.. I sideloaded airlink on watch, enabled airlink on watch, installed lightblue on iPhone, started Lightblue on iphone and add a new blank device.. paired with smartwatch.. and tested the music.. (just a Play button).. tested several songs for a while on the phone and the smartwatch (no big deal.. you can only play or pause a song).. then deactivated airlink on smartwatch.. (also uninstalled it from smartwatch), Uninstalled Lightblue on iPhone, restarted both smartwatch and iPhone.. and linked them again on normal bluetooth..
I didn't realized the smartwatch was now controlling the iPhone's music.. I Just picked my smartwatch.. and.. there it was.. the full control of the music in my watch.. (tried Music App and VLC app and both worked just fine!)
Maybe I triggered something on the iPhone that enabled control of the music on it..
-----------------
- Weather
(Android Wear OS)
Fully working
(iOS Wear 3)
No working at all.. it only says that is trying to connect.. but that's it..
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
Fully Working and appears information every certain period of time..
---------------------
- Maps
(Android Wear OS)
Fully working including navigation
(iOS Wear 3)
No working at all.. (didn't install)
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
Didn't install but I Sideloaded this version.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66852592&postcount=22 and it works... well.. just as a GPS.. Navigation doesn't work.. (newer version of Google maps sent an error message)
--------------------------------------------------
- Android Wear Apps (Android, I had Keep, Hangouts, Shazam, etc)
(Android Wear OS)
All of them installed perfectly
(iOS Wear 3 or Android Wear 2.14.7)
no matter I've installed all of these apps.. the smartwatch simply wont install any of them..
----------------------------------------------------
- Wifi
(Android Wear OS)
Works perfectly
(iOS Wear 3 or Android Wear 2.14.7)
Looks like since I linked my iPhone to the SW3.. I have no more WiFi on my SW3
-----------------------------------------------------
- ADB / Sideload apps
For Sideload.. I installed ADB Drivers and used this guide: https://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-watch-urbane-2nd-edition/696944-aw-2-0-a-2.html#post5485966
Installed the following apks (special for Android Wear)
1. .Google Keep - Not Working, Try Again message (looks like the Phone App is required for the Android Wear apk to work)
2. Hangouts - Downloaded this https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...hangouts-android-wear-17-0-145656208-release/ this is a Standalone Hangouts app.. but only works for Android Wear 2 on Watch (SW3 uses Android Wear 1.5)
3. Will test more apk's but it seems like the google one's need the Android phone app to work.
----------------------------------------------------------
- Faces
(Android Wear OS)
Default and extra Faces..
(iOS Wear 3)
There are no extra faces in the new Wear OS app for iPhone and... let's "face" it.. the default sony faces are not good.
(iOS Android Wear 2.14.7)
Default and extra Faces..
-------------------------------------------------------
- WatchMaker (I had it on Android)
(Android Wear OS)
App works just fine
(iOS Wear 3 and Android Wear 2.14.7)
it doesn't work in SW3 with the new Wear Os app.. (even the official watchmaker for iPhone).. so.. I sideloaded it using a tutorial in Youtube for the Ticwatch and Watchmaker.. and it works just fine.. but.. the faces wont detect weather or phone's battery level.. they detect steps and watch battery
--------------------------------------------------------
I've made some research.. and I've found that you can have 2 phones (1 Android and 1 iOS) and link them at the same time.. using this thread.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-wear/development/tutorial-android-wear-2-phones-ios-t3263546 but specifically this post.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64777989&postcount=56 But this require my old android phone.. and the new iOS phone.. so.. it's not a good choice to always have 2 phones in your pocket.. (or in your belt.. if you're stuck in the 00's). With this.. you can have some apps linked and installed (and working like hangouts.. keep.. shazam.. ) with android.. and other ones on iOS, for example.. notifications.. music.. but I guess.. maps.. whatsapp and other ones will not work..
Well.. that's the list .. I'll be updating this post for sharing information and for personal reference and if you think you can use this post.. you're welcome
error (mistake GS3 and SW3 )

I just updated the main post.. some apps can be sideloaded.. for example.. maps.. but some of them will not work... I'll try more apps later.. like hangouts or shazam..
:fingers-crossed:
Had the same problems as well when I moved to iOS... had to sell my SW3 out of frustration and bought an Apple Watch instead. Android Wear/Wear OS can be downright useless when paired with iOS.
I just revived my SW3 and noticed that with the WearOS app, lots of functions are gone now. For example, I can't activate advanced cards for Gmail or add watch faces, which was possible when it still was AndroidWear. They're really killing off Android 1.5 like this.

You'll have to install a older version of the Wear OS app (Android Wear App) for iOS.. The details are at the top of the main post.. I used a mac to do that..
I switched to iOS as well about 2 weeks ago and I noticed the same thing... At first I thought it was a bug with the Wear OS app, but then realised it wasn't. Also, when I installed iOS 11.4 Beta 6 on my iPhone 6 Plus, I noticed that when I'm performing heavy tasks on the phone (e.g. playing games, listening to music and using it at the same time, etc) the watch will disconnect. And that's not all. Yesterday, I got a notification in the Wear OS app saying "Your watch has limited iPhone support". I've definitely been considering getting a new Wear OS watch within the next several months, and this only makes me want to upgrade sooner

This does NOT look promising... I'm really conscious that the (poor) connection between my Smartwatch 3 and the iPhone is gonna end... soon..
I really encourage everyone to stay away of Wear OS 3 App for iOS.. if you can downgrade to a lower version ( 2.14.7 is the one i'm using ) do it and stay there, do not try to update it. this is a youtube guide to download an old version of an app (using a Mac) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL70CLXhF9U no jailbreak required.
I'm using iOS 11.2.1 and i'll stay there till a stable version of iOS 12.. but.. i'm aware that at some point.. my SW3 and the newer iOS will both be only sending notifications to each other..

Android messenger
Andriod is a great os.... Why don't u guys come up with android messenger with a pin for all android users and windows mobile phones. U can also extend it to symbian iphone and blackberry os. This is an idea of what i have in mind. The adm (android messenger) would be compatible with all os. The download will be once using the phone 'imei' so that even when the application is deleted and downloaded again it can still retain the same pin becos the imei becomes registered with one pin on the data-base. Guys can i see how many can go with me on this?
There's already bbm for networking chat. And cross-platform apps like ping chat and whatsapp. If something else was to be created, it would have to bring something new to the field really. Sent from Sony Xperia S using XDA Premium Join my threads here and here
actually there's google talk. every android phone's user must have a google account. if we have google account, that's mean we can use google talk. and google talk come pre-installed in every android phone.

Best Sony Smartwatch2 [SW2] Apps&Games
NOTE: This thread isn't updated by me anymore as I had to sell my SmartWatch 2. Check the latest replies to the thread for new apps, though. Keep 'em coming! Good day fellow XDAians! I recently bought my very own Smartwatch 2 and I had no idea where to start looking for applications. The built-in search function of Sony's Smartwatch2 app redirects to the Play Store with a certain search query but it not always shows all apps that belong to the category you've selected. So I decided to make a thread dedicated for only the best Apps&Games for the Sony Smartwatch 2! If you know a great app or game, please let me know. I'll try to include most useful apps in this post. For each category, the free apps and games are listed before the paid ones. Let's get started. First off, the application that is required for the SW2 to connect with your phone: > SmartWatch 2 SW2 by Sony Mobile Communications Secondly, with the new firmware where we can change wallpapers and create our own watchface, Sony decided to add an Easter Egg to the calculator. Have you ever wondered what 1035 equals? > 1035 = Free Snake Game (in case it wasn't clear yet, if you type "1035" in the calculator on your smartwatch and then press "=", you'll find the new game on your SmartWatch) Notifications > WatchIt! by Jonas Petersson [free] Will pick up notifications from the phone and display them in various ways. > Watchify (Beta) SW2 Extension by A. Sagrebin [free] [XDA thread] Allows tons of notifications to pop up on your smartwatch, with Whatsapp, Email, Gmail and Hangouts currently supported to show 'extended notifications' so they'll show the entire message. It also allows setting options for these notifications such as not vibrating at night. > Calendar smart extension by Sony Mobile Communications [free] Shows each upcoming calendar item with location and tapping an item shows more details. > Quick Reply for SmartWatch 2 by IngeniousApps [rooted] [€2,41] [XDA thread] Lets you actually write replies to whatsapp messages as well as view incoming ones on the smartwatch. > Tasker - Smart Notifier by Shouvik Basu [free] [donate app at €1,21] [requires Tasker at €2,99] Send notifications and choose actions accordingly on your SmartWatch via Tasker! Don't expect the live view to be smooth however. Games > 2048 for Smartwatch by Jonathan B. [free] Can't get enough of this game on your phone or in the browser? Now I just wish I had a way to pay for it *come on Google, introduce me to your Play Gift cards here as well* I will however included it in my list, as it seems original enough. Does it let users accurately reply whatsapp messages to incoming ones, and does it work in group chats as well? I just wish there was a way to have full whatsapp on your wrist, including all contacts and previous messages. Does it actually show your message after replying in a 'conversation kind of way', including previous messages? If not, could that be an improvement to save previous messages as well?
Ha! Great thought.. It does accurately reply to whatsapp individuals and groups and sms as well.. I am working on full whatsapp conversations.. But even if I succeed in it.. I ll be a standalone app with no notifications stuff.. Because SW2 api limitations have binded me to cut short a few things... Love your collection btw.. Keep it up! Cheers mate! I just found a great widget for the Remote Widget SmartWatch extension. Try putting Sony's TrackID widget on the watch. Clicking it will result in a music search even with the phone's display off! It's a perfect example of what this app is capable of! *More ideas may follow in this post* If you have any other perfect examples, be sure to share them here so I can include them in the list
okay, in the light flow app, the notification is only showing amount of unread notifications, like in gmail, it shows 1 unread, total 1, instead of showing context Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Choose which apps to (not) sync with wearable?
Hi guys! Do you know if its there a way to choose which apps to sync or not with the wearable? I have many apps that I don't want to have also on the watch, and save memory on it. I think at the moment it isn't possible, but here are many people with knowledge about it, I'm sure Thanks!
I think you have to decide for yourself what apps do you want and not want to have on your watch.....

I have some apps that are also compatible with wear. But it ist just for wear. I.E. Amazon app: I just use it on my phone, and don't want to get wear features, so I don't want it to be synced with watch. (Obviously neither want to uninstall Amazon on my phone)
Oh: so you want to delete it from your watch Check these links: https://www.reddit.com/r/moto360/comments/3bkd5r/remove_wear_apps_without_uninstalling_app_from/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wearappmanager&hl=en
There is a option in android wear to block programs.
I totally get what the OP is talking about. For instance I have Office Pro, and they added support for Android Wear so now it loads to my watch and I have no reason nor do I want it on my watch. Unless you root the watch, I do not believe there is any way to stop this. The block in the Wear app is simply, at this time, to block notifications from an app. This is a potential issue and I believe Android will need to address this soon, if said app maker decides to add Wear in their app, they may or may not even test it, so if there is incorrect application and the Wear addition begins query to the phone, with nothing to find, it could end up killing battery life. Another situation that will eventually come up is limited memory on the watch compared to how many apps on the phone that have Wear included. These are even beyond the idea, that the end user doesn't want, said Wear app, to load. For both reasons, I believe they "Android Wear" needs to add in the Wear app another section that controls apps loading to watch. about the links above, The adb method is cumbersome and if you should restart your watch I wonder if the app would just reload? The app Wear App Manager looks good but should basically be implemented in Android Wear.
Yes that is the point ! In the app I mentioned (Amazon), it loads a little shortcut on wear, and when you run it, promts for permission, and if you don't get that permissions, so it ask you if you want to delete the app from wear. This is a good improvement, but just implemented by the app developer.
The Wear App Manager is a bit misleading in that if you want to remove an app from your watch, it will also remove the app from your phone as well. I agree with previous post that Google needs to provide some control mechanism to give us a say in whether an android app with a Wear component can get installed on the watch. Heck, if every app I have on my phone had a Wear addition, my watch would be overwhelmed in no time.
Google Keep and iPhone
Hey there, I have this smartwatch and an iPhone SE. There is an huge problem: I have the app Google Keep installed on the iPhone, but not on the SW3, why?
Iphone not fully compatible with Google Keep The short answer: get Android The long answer: get an Android phone :silly:  Just being ironic, but I think IOS is not able to sync all apps. Sorry
Hi. I just bought and iPhone and it is a mess.. I can't sync my google calendar agenda.. and now this.. Google keep didn't install.. So.. i'll try to sideload it.. using adb.. Wish me luck.. I'll post the updates
Wearable widgets app working on Galaxy?
While I am waiting for my Galaxy, has anybody tried the older Wearable Widgets app for S3 on the Galaxy, and its phone companion app? Not sure why Samsung refused further store entries and hence development of this at first sight genius concept...bluetooth streaming regular Android widgets to the app face. Would open a huge number of widgets for apps not yet (or never) supported. http://wearablewidgets.com/gear/
Good news from a German forum, WearableWidgets running if fresh installation, not taken over from a S3 install. Letting you see for example the status of your smartphone battery.
