Since the last couple of months, the FP Sensor on my OnePlus3 fails to register fingerprints most of the time. Usually I have to clean the FP sensor with a cloth, and it works fine for the subsequent 5-6 fingerprints, after which it again starts to show the same problem.
I have tried re-registering FPs many times, cleaning the sensor with Isopropyl alcohol and microfiber cloth, but the problem again comes back after some FP unlock attempts.
The thing that I have noticed is these days, FP sensor gets dirty really easily, which wasn't the case before a couple of months, it used to work just fine for days without needing any cleaning. Even if I wash my hands and dry them thoroughly, still it's getting dirty really easily.
Is there any coating on the FP sensor that's worn out causing this issue? Or is the problem is something else?
Attaching the pics. This is after only one use, images enhanced to show the wear level of FP sensor.

I guess it's coated with the same oleophobic coating as the screen (as the name suggests, it repels oils from skin). And it has probably worn off in your case for whatever reason.
I don't see any other explanation as there's nothing to wear off on hardware level. FP scanner uses the same technology as the screen - capacitive touch, just at much higher resolution. And physically it's made of ceramic, so it's quite hard to scratch (besides, most scanners still work even when deeply scratched and yours looks fine anyways).

Dang. :crying:
Anyone has any other way to restore the proper functionality of FP sensor?
Have you tried wiping it with a towel soaked with a oil remover (like the ones for glasses which I don't know the name in english ^^ )?

I am not sure about any particular oil remover, but as I stated earlier, I have tried everything from isopropyl alcohol, to those phone screen cleaners, microfiber cloth, that glass cleaning liquid.
The coating (seems like oleophobic only) is permanently worn out here, so wiping would just clean it, the marks come back after some use.

I just got a brand new evo.
Took it to the beach once and now I have a very very shallow scratch on the surface due to sand.
It is totally unnoticeable unless I spend a few minutes moving it so the light hits it perfectly.
Then I see it, and once I see it theres no going back.
I am considering replacing it since it hasn't been 30 days, would I get a new or refurb?
(P.S. i wouldnt replace it just cause of that, also have screen separation issues and a stuck pixel)
My main question is, can I use Displex? They say that it shouldn't be used on touchscreen devices unless they have a "plastic lens"?
However the product is available here http://www.thinkevo4g.com/displex-1039.html
So i'm assuming it IS plastic then.
Can anyone verify before I worsen the situation.
Its made out of glass, FOR SURE. I shattered the crap out of one.

Damn, serial?
I suppose that means no on the displex.
It works only with plastic I guess.
Why would thinkevo4g have it then? Am I missing something?
Maybe you broke the second layer and there was a very thin plastic layer on top.
Do you remember anything like that?
*hoping*
No, he's right, it's DEFINATELY glass.

So sand scratching the screen made you think that it was plastic? White sand is quartz which is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Glass is generally around 6-7 so sand is a clear winner here. The problem is, the harder you make the screen, the more likely it is to shatter when you drop it. You can make it pretty much scratch proof by installing a sapphire lens such as is used on higher end watches and has a Mohs hardness of 9. Then all you have to do is keep your diamond ring away from it. But how would something like that handle drops? Probably not as well. Until nano materials get cheaper, it's all a compromise.

ThinkEvo4G had a very lame response, they said that the displex isn't meant for the DISPLay but for the plastic parts around it.
If only they mentioned that before people bought it for their screen..
It's definitely glass.
The reason I ask this is because tap tap doesnt seem to work very well for me,
Its usually when im holding down on the one spot and i try to tap other ones at the same time.
It just doesnt recognise that im tapping the screen.
Is this a problem for anyone else?
Also is it down to how the phone screen works, or the app?
Just wondered as i loved tap tap on my ipod touch but its no where near as useable on my phone.

It's a 4" 854x480 transflective tft-lcd panel covered with fortified mineral glass which has a shatter protective lamanant screen cover that's factory fitted. The lamanant covering is prone to scratching, and is whatever the oposite of oleophobic is (it loves oil from your skin). There have been some who reported that after removing the covering to expose bare the mineral glass, the brightness and responsiveness are better. I've also noticed in my own testing that this panel is capable of registering only 4 points of multi touch contact, but that could just be in the driver.

Most of us on here removed it and it's very resilient.

Are you saying you've put the spare on top of the factory fitted one?
I regret I ever removed the original screen protector. Yeah, the screen does get marginally brighter but not very much, and it gets more sensitive. But the downside is it gets speckled a lot. The original screen protector is very resistant to speckles and that alone far outweighs the somewhat brighter screen.
I was never happy with the screen when I had peeled of the original protector not even after a month.
Hence I bought some new original protectors and put it on as late as today. God I love the screen now again. It doesn't get speckled all of the time with fingerprints that shows on brighter backgrounds. I will never take it off again. The difference is HUGE when it comes to speckles.
Speckles??

Hey guys, my lg g2 screen was cracked so I got a replacement screen, both digitizer and lcd. Everything went smoothly and I have everything working but a small this bothers me. The screen is not flush with the frame it pops out a bit maybe the double sided tape I used inside to hold the screen down wasn't good enough. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I can do? I was thinking of applying a little bit of silicone and let it set. Any help will be much appreciated. I am attaching the photos of it as well to get a better idea.

I used a glue from Home Depot, the type you mix. I got the clear kind. There are many types but look and see the pressure resistance and if it works on plastics before you buy. Mine was also water proof. I believe it was a type of Gorilla glue, it worked wonders unlike the tape. Jus make sure you get the correct type, even Gorilla has different types. You also have to maintain pressure till it dries by the way or your screen will stick out.

If we use this method, how easy would it be to replace the screen again if need be?
I'm just wondering if the glue would work TOO well.

Use a type of glue which melts with the heat, like the original.

The people that repaired my screen did a bad job, thats why I added the glue, the new screen had rainbow lines issues but they manged to get it off with a little force and replace it again. This is because I did not go overboard and add too much, so you should be fine if u need to break off or replace the LCD.
I used Gorilla Epoxy (3300Psi and sets in 5 mins), just make sure to use very little amounts or it might get in between the LCD layers, basically just don't be overzealous and you will be fine.
Hi, my phone got my fingerprint mark impressed on the reader during the first week of use!
I don't know how to remove this horrible sign, i tried everything.

Wipe with microfibre cloth. If it's not going, then use little alcohol or nail polish remover (dab the cloth in liquid, shake off excess, then wipe).
I'm pretty sure it will remove the stain.

First of all are you REALLY sure that it is an imprint of your finger print? The finger print reader is textured, so maybe it is fooling your eyes? I'm not sure mate!
It shouldn't be too much of an issue. If it's bothering you too much take it to a service center and see how it goes...

It's funny how there's almost always a hateful comment on Xiaomi in every thread.
And btw, that's normal wear and tear.... If you wanted top notch build quality, you should've bought Nokia 6 but then you'd complian about its slow processor... The point is, it's a cheap device... Such cheap devices tend to have cheap components.
Compromises are done here and there.. live with it or buy a more expensive phone to satisfy yourself with the build quality.

Perfect explanation! Had the same "issue" with my P9 lite and Honor 8 Lite. But it's just an aesthetic downside, nothing more. Didn't bother me at all.

250€ doesn't make this device cheap.
I am buying Xiaomi from 2015, so I am not complaining about the company, but a fingerprint reader that impress itself with your fingerprint is not that good.

^ What they said
Its most likely dirt / oil build up from your finger.
As far as I know, plastic is harder than skin on the Mohs scale.
Yup it's oil build up, my HTC 10 has it bad and I've never managed to get it off.
250 euro (i buy it for 215 btw), made it cheap if you analyze what you get for this money.
So, if is cip or not is not just the money but money / how good hardware - software you get...
For what you get as hardware and software, this is one of the cippest phone out there.
anyway i dont have stain, and i use it since 2 month and something.
maybe you had something oily or other kind of dirt in your hand (or traces of chemical product) when you use the finger sensor.
Or you use gesture on it and your nail is too long and you scratch the surface.
cut your finger... seriously....
back again with a whitestone dome review for the pixel 6 pro. whitestone was kind enough to send me a sample and provide xda readers with a discount code, XDA10PX which will take 10% off any pixel protector through 2.28.22. you can order directly from them at https://www.whitestonedome.com/prod...id-dispersion-tech-with-camera-film-protector (non-affiliate link.)
ive used the dome on my 2 and 3 xls, but it's been a few years so i had to brush up on the instillation technique. the process is straightforward and when things go as they should it works well, but attention to detail is key. id suggest watching their official video a time or two before doing it. even as someone who had done this several times the first installation did not go well and i had air bubbles. thankfully they provide extra adhesive so i didnt cure it, cleaned everything off and tried again. the second time was better, but i still had a few very tiny bubbles. i went ahead and cured it and used it for about a week, but i could see them on white screens which drove me crazy. the included removal tool (nothing more than a laminated card) worked really well. on previous devices removing the protector meant shattering it. im not sure if you could clean the glass and use it again, but if nothing else it was intact. after starting fresh the next install went flawlessly.
if you havent used a whitestone before be prepared to gather some lint between your case and protector, especially in the first week. a quick wipe down with an alcohol pad will help this. it also tends to collect fingerprints more, especially in the first few days of use. but overall the feel is great and ive noticed no degradation in fingerprint sensor performance even though i didnt reregister like whitestone recommends. for the record, my fingerprint sensor sucks and continues to suck, but its no worse lol. these arent cheap protectors, but after a few years without them ive been reminded why they are the best protectors ive ever used.

It looks good, also so thin. How it performs in the long term because I don't trust tempered glass cause it breaks soon!
After my second TPU screen protector stretched and got partially uninstalled by my case yesterday, I noticed that Amazon UK was stocking these screen protectors & although they're a high price, I thought I'd take a chance as all reviews seem good, they have a lifetime warranty & the TPU ones are just trash to use day-to-day.
Honestly, I am shocked at how easy this was to install without any glue leaking into crevices (ie. Buttons & speakers), and also how well it installed using the jig. I recently installed a cheaper Amazon brand glue based TGSP on my brother's S21 but it leaked everywhere, glued the buttons together & muted his top earpiece!
I, myself, have always used Spigen TGSP & although they're good products, they all had to be hand installed, manually, meaning they were always slightly out and always caught dust underneath before you could install them completely - this thing though, wow! The video was very simple to follow & after I made sure there was no specks on my screen (after releasing the adhesive), I just placed the TGSP on top of the jig, let it drop down and settle, then cured with the provided UV light & then cleared the edges with the alcohol wipe.
It looks absolutely fantastic & feels super smooth compared to the TPU protectors - you genuinely wouldn't even be able to tell it's on there (with my Spigen Liquid Air) if it wasn't for the camera cut out hole.
Thanks for the recommendation @roirraW "edor" ehT & @kellybrf
Just installed mine. Now have a perfect phone
