I just got a brand new evo.
Took it to the beach once and now I have a very very shallow scratch on the surface due to sand.
It is totally unnoticeable unless I spend a few minutes moving it so the light hits it perfectly.
Then I see it, and once I see it theres no going back.
I am considering replacing it since it hasn't been 30 days, would I get a new or refurb?
(P.S. i wouldnt replace it just cause of that, also have screen separation issues and a stuck pixel)
My main question is, can I use Displex? They say that it shouldn't be used on touchscreen devices unless they have a "plastic lens"?
However the product is available here http://www.thinkevo4g.com/displex-1039.html
So i'm assuming it IS plastic then.
Can anyone verify before I worsen the situation.
Its made out of glass, FOR SURE. I shattered the crap out of one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6755678#post6755678
Damn, serial?
I suppose that means no on the displex.
It works only with plastic I guess.
Why would thinkevo4g have it then? Am I missing something?
Maybe you broke the second layer and there was a very thin plastic layer on top.
Do you remember anything like that?
*hoping*
No, he's right, it's DEFINATELY glass.

So sand scratching the screen made you think that it was plastic? White sand is quartz which is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Glass is generally around 6-7 so sand is a clear winner here. The problem is, the harder you make the screen, the more likely it is to shatter when you drop it. You can make it pretty much scratch proof by installing a sapphire lens such as is used on higher end watches and has a Mohs hardness of 9. Then all you have to do is keep your diamond ring away from it. But how would something like that handle drops? Probably not as well. Until nano materials get cheaper, it's all a compromise.

Read that link to find your answer...
ThinkEvo4G had a very lame response, they said that the displex isn't meant for the DISPLay but for the plastic parts around it.
If only they mentioned that before people bought it for their screen..
It's definitely glass.

I installed mine yesterday as I bought two so I would always have a spare as I sent away for another or walked into a store to get another one... I have used bodygaurdz in the past and this was my first ghost armor.... Not bad, nice squeegee and nice spray bottle with a lot of stuff.... I did mine on while riding as a passanger in a car... So it is what it is.... Also still waiting for the screen to clear up which takes a couple of days, but it is better than it was yesterday. I was going to post pictures, but it says I can't link to outside links because I am a new user... If someone can post them for me send me a pm and I will send you the photobucket links.

I also had bodyguardz on my touch pro. Just ordered the Ghost Armor for my evo as well, I absolutely hated how the edges peeled on it. Although, I think i will end up using a seidio innocase and just use the ghost armor screen protector. I just don't feel like the ghost armor or any skin for that matter will protect the phone from a fall on concrete.
Let me know how the skin ends up working out for you.

They all look like that until the stuff dries out in a couple of days.... Has nothing to do with doing it on a table or not. Read the instructions this is normal and it looks better now then it did in the picture.
I bought the Silicone Case and the Screen Protector at sprint and the phone works fantastic! Don't know why you guys need to cover the whole phone with that thing. I used to have an iPhone 3GS with Zagg Inv Shield and when I took it out to sell it, it was all completely sticky.
Never had an issue with my body gaurdz being sticky when i took them off and the phone looked like new.

I believe he was talking about the outside of the invis shield being sticky because of the case, not the phone.
After doing screen protectors on way too many iPads to want to admit too, the big thing I found is that you need to figure out what kind of protector you are dealing with. The thinner glossy protectors you can normally add water to to make placing them easier because they will breathe. The matte protectors will have an issue because they do not breathe and the water can get trapped.
In regards to the water, you need to be very careful in what you use. I know it sounds weird, but I suggest using bottled water with a drop of Johnson's & Johnson's baby shampoo. The reason for the bottled water is it will not leave any type of hard water residue behind if you don't get it all out.
Mine is looking much better... I can't complain... Nothing on the screen it going to make it look as nice as with out the plastic on it. But for protection I am willing to live with the looks. I can take pictures of it at home if you want and as for the spray I used what came with the kit to spray it down.
*EDIT: Nevermind*

Searching for YOU sponsored from me personally. don't see a lot of negative here nor did i see someone showing close pictures of the white one either. I fit it in my pocket and don't want to add any bulk to my phone so personally skins suit me! As well as a lot of others.
Someone could get a clear case if the wanted and it will fit right over...
My 2 Cents
I think that looks sweet. Thinking about ordering one
That's extreme! Seems very portal-esc
If I was any good at applying these things I'd be down.
What area are you from??
very nice and clean!
i bet the texture is awesome.
I love the way it looks, how long has it been on? I'd like to know how well they hold up, they're kind of pricey and I've heard complaints about the corners peeling up. Keep us up to date on how it holds up.
I covered my KLR650 motorcycle in carbon print vinyl like this. It withstood six months of gnarly weather, dust and offroad.
Before I finally peeled it off, my bike looked like it was totalled. However, the paint underneath was flawless.
You can get a good result if you are slow and methodical. if not, it won't look so great.
Hmm, I ordered a roll of this stuff from Ebay and got it in. Looks really slick and I covered a few things to practice. But I think I need a good pattern for the Thunderbolt. Anyone have anything? Even another skin and a scanner?
Would greatly appreciate it and be willing to send someone a big enough piece for a couple of these if we can get a pattern going.
I can even send people chunks to make skins if they are willing to cover a couple bucks in shipping.
Do you think it offers much protection other than from surface scratches? Say from falls to the floor or concrete? Doesn't from the pictures and manufacturer's description.

it's just a sticker so I highly doubt it does anything other than prevent some scratches.
Does look cool. How charred up does it look then its removed? That's always my worry with them
It removed no issues. I took it off so I can recut a new skin with better cleaner edges and there is no resides at all.
I bought a roll of black off Ebay, so I cut my own skin. I wish I had a good pattern.
Looks pretty cool in a something different kind of way, also storm-troopery. I personally wouldn't cover the kickstand, though.
thumbs up, i'm really liking this
There have been a few posts about the "inner" screen breaking whilst the phone is in a pocket. IE That the screen is somehow deficient.
Did your screen crack in a way that you think isn't your fault?
Check in here.
I'm thinking this can be a poll type thing, without comments other than the details. There are plenty of other threads discussing the different aspects of this.
I always keep mine in my front jeans pocket and am nervous about this whole thing. Especially if no is going to warranty for this.
Again lets not devolve into a pros and cons. Just the facts please.

Mine cracked
I cracked the LCD under the gorilla glass of my TMo S4 while it was in my pocket with nothing else in my pocket. There were no cracks on the gorilla glass and it was in a protective case. I took it into the TMo store and the lady was nice enough to warranty it for me as long as I agreed she didn't see any cracks (battery was dead). She said however that it is likely they will charge me $150 after they discover the damage, which could take a couple months. That option sounded better than buying another S4 outright and it was cheaper than the $175 deductible for insurance.
So I would say, be very careful not to apply pressure to the screen. It would appear to me that they've slimmed down the phone at the sacrifice of pressure resistance, especially since my S2 is still kicking and sat a couple years in my pocket.
Cheers!

Right here with you. I posted a thread about this a while back. mine developed a hairline crack in less than 2 weeks. I still don't know how it happened, as my phone was never dropped either.
Mine has what looks like a (curved) line that goes from upper right corner to the bottom left one. But the glass is smooth and you don't feel any scratch from outside. I m pretty sure I bought it like that as I saw it during my 1st inspection of the phone (few days after purchase)
Is it cracked/scratched from inside and should I ask for replacement ? (I still have 2 days to return the phone)
Hey guys, my lg g2 screen was cracked so I got a replacement screen, both digitizer and lcd. Everything went smoothly and I have everything working but a small this bothers me. The screen is not flush with the frame it pops out a bit maybe the double sided tape I used inside to hold the screen down wasn't good enough. Do you guys have any ideas as to what I can do? I was thinking of applying a little bit of silicone and let it set. Any help will be much appreciated. I am attaching the photos of it as well to get a better idea.

I used a glue from Home Depot, the type you mix. I got the clear kind. There are many types but look and see the pressure resistance and if it works on plastics before you buy. Mine was also water proof. I believe it was a type of Gorilla glue, it worked wonders unlike the tape. Jus make sure you get the correct type, even Gorilla has different types. You also have to maintain pressure till it dries by the way or your screen will stick out.

If we use this method, how easy would it be to replace the screen again if need be?
I'm just wondering if the glue would work TOO well.

Use a type of glue which melts with the heat, like the original.

The people that repaired my screen did a bad job, thats why I added the glue, the new screen had rainbow lines issues but they manged to get it off with a little force and replace it again. This is because I did not go overboard and add too much, so you should be fine if u need to break off or replace the LCD.
I used Gorilla Epoxy (3300Psi and sets in 5 mins), just make sure to use very little amounts or it might get in between the LCD layers, basically just don't be overzealous and you will be fine.
I've had this phone since release and it's possibly one of the best devices i ever had for it's price, yesterday and while i was sleeping(i always keep my phone to the left of my pillow) i somehow managed to push it off the bed(probably less than 0.5m distance) and it landed on its screen against ceramic floor, result?

I've had my fair share of accidents over the years with different phone models and brands but i never seen a phone crack like this from such a fall, it's like it's made of regular glass even though they claim it's gorilla glass.
What's worse is i called the local repair center and they said that they don't provide replacement parts for this phone anymore, and searching around on the internet it looks like replacing the screen manually would cost over $100 for a phone that i bought for around $200 when it was released and a screen that breaks so easily.
Now that my rant is over, my question is how can i tell if it's only the glass or the actual LED screen? i turned it off immediately as it was making very weird noises and i was afraid it would completely black out without being able to recover the data off it, i have very sensitive and important data that i need to extract and i don't trust sending it to a 3rd party repair thing.

Yes ceramic is harder than your gorilla glass 3. So the ceramic wins. Nothing special.

Every fall is different from each other. To compare that is useless except you do this on laboratory conditions.

That a material with lower hardness (which is brittle) breaks on an impact (maybe in bad conditions/impact angle..) with an harder material is nothing unusual.
As I read it's gorilla glass 3. This is 3 times harder than gorilla glass 2 to be more resistant against scratches. Whats the drawback of this? It is more brittle, see your result.
Because ~70% of the screen damages are from falling damage, they made gorilla glass 4 softer than level 3 to make it more resistant against falling damage. But this makes Level 4 vulnerable to scratches again.
Gorilla glass doesn't mean that it is unbreakable and unscratchable at the same time especially with the early ones.

Turn it on and you will know if the led screen is working or not. Got a P2 with the same shattered glass and the screen works as usual. I don't think theres anything special (magical) you can do. It works or it doesn't. You can also open your device and look if the cable from the screen is still plugged in. No guarantee from my side..
