Hey all, I recently installed AquariOS onto my device, and now I don't seem to have unlimited photo storage. Help with this would be appreciated, thanks

Sounds like you should post in the AquariOS G+ page or their ROM thread to get someone from AquariOS dev team to look into it.

How did you check? Does Google Photos no longer say you have unlimited free storage until a specific date? A screenshot would help.

...my experience doesn't have any experience to do with ROMs (I'm on stock), but I've had experience that, for whatever reason, my pictures were being backed up to my Google Photos (unlimited) AND my Google Drive (15GB freely offered)! So, as my phone would "free up space" and delete my pictures after saving them to my Google Photos account, my Google Drive would fill up to no space because they weren't doing the same!
My Google Drive is set up to have my Google Photos included as a folder. I think somewhere along the way it got mixed up. In the end, I was able to either 1) move the pictures to Google Photos folder and it freed up space or 2) copy the photos to my computer, delete them from the Google Drive, extract and put them unto my phone, and have Google Photos app re-upload them.
It's most likely you (OP) are having a problem with the ROM, but I just wanted to give my experience just in case you or someone else runs into the same issue as me...
note: this was back on Oreo 8.1 Feb update patch. All other info in my sig...

Please help me... I unlocked bootloader, it wiped all my phone, then rooted hoping to get some sort of backup. No luck. Can you please help? Lost my 2 week old's baby photos due to stupidity.

try this: http://www.wondershare.com/disk-utility/recover-deleted-photos-from-nexus-s-and-galaxy-nexus.html
if that doesnt work, you might be out of luck.
Thanks Zep... unfortunately this doesn't work with the Galaxy Nexus, as it doesn't have an SD card and isn't recognized by the program.
there are some apps that have require root access that i have heard you can use to restore deleted files

Sorry dude that sucks. Even though some people may hate it that is the benefits of the cloud.
Google+ uses an instant upload function that automatically uploads pictures taken from your phone into Google Photo's. DropBox has a similar feature which also syncs your photos into the cloud storage. Google+ edges dropbox out because it allows you to view photos sitting in the cloud Google Photos/Picasa directly in your gallery.
I am consistently wiping and changing ROMS on my phone so I opted to not have anything major physically stored on it. All my albums are store in Google+ Photos and are not shared, they are private and only visible to me. So if I ever have to wipe..say I am on vacation and my phone gets stolen and I have to do a remote wipe before transferring the pictures I snapped over, I know they were probably uploaded to Google Photos and I won't lose any candids.
Thanks Zep.,
These progs. unfortunately aren't working with ICS. I really appreciate your advice. Thanks again.
Dave
I'm sorry to hear you lost your photos, but every post about unlocking your bootloader states that it will wipe your phone.
Per the previous post, think about using Google+, Drive, or Dropbox.
I hope you are able to recover the photos.
Thanks for the advice. I'll try to somehow backdoor install "undelete for root users" on my phone and see if it'll work with ics.

U should post/ask this in the actually Google / android forums, yes sounds crazy since ur basically hacking ur phone but if they didn't want us to do it they wouldn't give us stock images and way to relock bootloader, its worth a try ... if anyone would no its them
Currently there is no android app that can restore files deleted off an ext4 partition (which is what the GNex uses). Not sure if there is anything available in Linux, but if so, you should theoretically be able to find some way to mount the /sdcard and use the Linux program. Haven't looked into it myself though.

Same account but they don't download.. how can i start that manually?
First, did you upload the pics from your previous device? Go into photos and in the upper left hand corner are three horizontal bars. Click on that, then go to settings and make sure back up & sync is on.

Yes if full of photos.. yes sync is up, i see photos but they aren't stored on my device as when i click on my device folders those are empty
Sync only uploads them to photos. it does not DL any. You can download them only one at a time with the Android app by viewing a photo and than tapping the three dots. Otherwise view them from the cloud. On a PC you can create a downloadable zip of whatever ones you want and then copy those to your phone. But they may end up as dups on your phone as it may get confused with the one on your SD card and the one on photos since it didn't originally upload the exact on on the SD card. Complete PITA.

Yeah, it would be a nice option especially if you could mark certain photos in bulk to come down over Wi-Fi. But it is contrary to Google's movement to all cloud based content and devices with non-expandable storage. That said they let you pin music from Google play music so why not the same for photo albums.
Yeah it kind of defeats the purpose of Google Photos cloud storage if you go for trying to download a whole bunch of them to your device. I've restored my 5X once just to start off fresh and it actually felt refreshing not to worry about my locally store pics getting cleared.
I do agree that pinning cloud albums would be nice to do for offline viewing just like Google Play Music.

Anyone have a best practice for following scenario??
I have been paying $1.99 a month for 100gb a year. So now I have 40gb in the cloud and would like to take advantage of the free unlimited storage. If I cancel my storage for $1.99 will Google just delete all my current stored items. Just wondering what you guys/gals think on the process.
By the way. Loving this Pixel. Glad I made the switch from 6p. Just responsiveness alone is worth it for me.

I'm in the same boat. I take a lot of photos with my DSLR and have them back up to google photos. When talking unlimited space to back photos and videos at original size, I think are only photos and videos captured from the Pixel. I could be wrong and would love be wrong actually but I think I am right

So what If I load all my pics on my phone and re-upload does that consider them taken by my pixel or is it only taking the ones with pixel in the metadata.

On the Pixel, Google Photos shows this, and I quote: "Full resolution photos & videos uploaded from your Pixel device will get unlimited storage".
The phrasing seems to indicate photos/videos have to be uploaded by the Pixel, not necessarily taken with it.

They won't delete any info, but you want be able to receive emails are upload anything(other than photos and videos) because your over the 15 gig cap. I too like you pay monthly because they've combined the storage space on gmail, drive and photos which puts me over the limit a tad. Kinda sucks but not expensive so I don't really complain about it.

Does anyone have any clarification on this? If I transfer photos to my phone (not taken by my phone) will they be included in the unlimited storage?
I have just emailed myself a huge photo to my pixel xl and then backed it up from the phone.
It has backed up full res.
For clarification, taken from Google support.
Excellent, thanks for sharing

Thanks, I'm aware of the Google Photos being the folder where the pictures from my device are saved. However, I was quoting Mdizzle1, who said he emailed himself a photo and saved it via his Pixel XL. This would imply that he probably used the "Back up device folders" option under the "Back up & Sync" setting for Google Photos. I, too, have selected various folders on my device from the "Back up device folders" - what I would like to know is where those folders/files are accessible in Google Drive, if at all.

The exact same place. Google Drive treats all photos backed up from the Pixel XL exactly the same regardless of where the photo originated from. I have photos I've taken and photos I've downloaded and photos that were e-mailed to me and if they were backed up from my Pixel XL they are all in the same Google Drive folder.

Hm, I guess I'm having a hard time finding the file online at drive.google.com for some reason. I deliberately renamed a picture on my device with a unique string to be searchable on Google Drive and I cannot find it. Thoughts?
You mention photos that were downloaded or emailed; are you using the "Back up device folders" option in these cases?

I double checked and I actually have the backup device folders option set to off.
Hey everyone, I got a strange email about my Google photos account being out of storage. It says in order to continue backing up my photos at original quality I need to buy more storage. The Pixel 2 XL has free unlimited backup of original quality photos. The only other device set to backup my photos is my Shield K1 tablet, and I double checked that it is set to the free "high quality" option. The last device I had uploading original quality photos was my Nexus 5X, and it isn't even listed in my Google account anymore.
Has anyone else received an email like this from Google? I never did while using my OG Pixel, and I've been using my 2xl since October 28 with no problem.
Here's the screenshot of the email.

Are you using more than one Google account? The first time I activated Photos backup on my P2XL, I got the unlimited storage offer notification and activated it. Call Google and get it sorted.... may be because you were an "early adopter".

Thanks, I only have 1 Google account linked to the phone, and in the photos app it says it's backing up the full resolution photos. So, I'm not really sure why they sent the email. Is there any way of knowing if my photos are in fact getting uploaded as originals?

Hi all,
So here's the deal. When I had my Pixel 2XL, I had about a bazillion photos on Google Photos, still do. No real order or organization, just a total mess. My impression is that the Note 10+ has far more robust file management software, and of course I have space for photos on the device and SD card. Let's also say maybe I've got some stuff on there that I just don't really want to be In The Cloud anymore. My thought is that I could do this via DEX - download or go through my Google Photos library from The Cloud, arrange things into folders on my desktop, and then load them onto the phone.
Would this work? Can anyone think of an easier way to move everything from Photos servers onto the phone's stock Gallery, putting aside any issues of "why would you want to do that" or "I wouldn't do that" because the bottom line is maybe I don't have the level of trust in Google as I once did and prefer as much of my data to me by own as possible.
Thanks so much!
Or just directly copy images via usb cable straight to the phone, all done using file explorer

Oh yeah, I guess I can do that, and that would be about a thousand times easier!
Alright, so, I'm not sure I understand how the Gallery and Google Photos sync up and I'm trying to think of what the best way to do this is. Just delete the un-needed stuff from the phone storage, sort the rest into folders as I like, and everything will stay backed up in Google Photos? My concern is that as far as syncing goes, Google Photos would basically re-upload or re-sync things I'd deleted from the phone's gallery. Which gets priority, for lack of a better word?
I hope I'm explaining that question clearly!
