Hello,
As we all know there are tons of custom roms, i was wondering this since a while
Say i get the honor 8 pro and i install lineage os on it and install pixel launcher or wahtever i want to bring it as close to stock as i want+ more speed i guess? cause its fully stock? i don't mind losing out on features of emui, but my questions are.
1] do custom roms make an impact on the camera performance?[earlier i had a nexus 5, so honestly couldn't make out the difference]
2 Will i lose my battery perforamnce somehow? i mean what if its made to be optimized with the official firmware? or does it not matter?
Someone please shed some light
1. Custom ROMs impact camera performance mainly because you lose out on the camera interface (which in 8 pro is far sophisticated than a third party app can offer). And we do not have a custom ROM for this device that uses stock modules to port itself. With single lens, difference wouldn't be much as there isn't much post shutter processing going on. Its just the sensor doing the job. With dual cameras, its slightly different.
2. Battery life depends on which custom ROM you choose. Lineage, RR generally have very neat battery stats and issues get resolved much faster(if at all there are any).
Most of them are waiting to change over to a custom ROM once the Camera app is ported, as all other functionality can be replicated using third party apps or you might find better customization when running a custom ROM by default.
1- camera will be heavily impacted (especially the dual lens function)
2- it just depends on the custom ROM and how well optimized for the hardware.
Cool thanks!

Yes custom ROM do ,but once surdu petru said in his thread that he willl port the stock emui camera to customrom.wait for him.
Hi guys. I am reading the forums to the different custom ROMS for the ZUK Z2, but I am having trouble to choose the right one. I hope you can help me - I am looking for something close to stock android, support of the U touch gestures and phone calls recorder. Also, Could you recommend only stable roms that possibly offer OTA updates? Many thanks.
You prefer nougat or Oreo?

Well, either one would do. I am currently on Nougat, but I do not mind switching. Whichever one is more stable. Thanks

If you want as less bugs as possible;
You should be on nougat. I recommend jaguar N. Only issue may be battery life according to some users, which is not there according to other users. So try and see if it suits you.
Other updated ROMs include dotOS.

This requires any particular base band? Because my volte on v rom is not working
Hello ,
Actually my Mi5S is working great on MIUI 9.5 global stable ROM. Nevertheless, I don't really like MIUI design and I'd like to change to a Oreo (Stock) ROM like Lineage OS 15.1 or AOSP extended but I need some feedback about them (like Battery, bugs, Performance, Stability etc...) because feedback on topics aren't really complete. You also could share other Oreo ROM which are stable enough. Don't forget to specify which version of the ROM you have.
Thanks a lot and I hope this thread will help others!
Install RessurectionRemix ROM (or PixelExperience - slightly faster IMO) and you don't have to wory about nothing
AEX seems to work best with my phone. Faster than LOS and PixelExp, superior and consistent battery life (6h of SOT with ForceDoze installed) and no noteworthy bugs. Considering stablity and extra functions there are very few bad choices as most ROMs for this device are pretty good. Just be sure to install the right hardware-firmware and follow installation instructions carefully.
If you're moving from MIUI the battery is the thing that will probably will get worse results. Performance and features are better with the custom ROMs. Also installing a modded GCam (ported Pixel image processing for really good quality) is a must.
[sorry X2 post, didn't find how to delete it]
Okey guys thanks for your reply. Are you using a custom kernel ?
@Djeloan Pixel Experience seems to not be updated anymore... No more support ?
@8166uy I reckon I will install AEX if it's enough stable for daily use. By the way, you recommend to install a modded Cam. Is it because pre-installed cam on Custom ROM doesn't work as well as stock Cam on MIUI ?
I'm not a big fan of custom kernels as you don't profit THAT much with it, but does give extra problems every few weeks. And yes the modded camera is partly because the stock camera from the ROMs aren't all that good, but also because with it you can make it as good as modern flagships from the big western brands. So expect better sharpness, better dynamic range, better low-light performance and a properly working portrait background blurring effect.
For the best results take the GCam from B-S-G or Arnova for pictures (there are threads plenty about them here) and OpenCamera for videos (can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera).
Download link for all versions of the modded GCam are btw here if you feel adventurous. Some are more stable than others:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I use this one because of stability and device specific tweaks:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...018.177470874.41362666__A7.0-8.1_MI5S_v2e.apk
Great ? thanks for sharing that ^^
I've heard that Arnova's GCam works significantly better on Oreo than BSG's.
For me the Arnova ones just keeps crashing with low light no matter which version I pick, so I would just try both and see which one fits best. I personally never had any problems with B-S-G builds on Oreo.
i avoid messing with kernal's unless its a hobby you enjoy. it can get time consuming later on

I play a lot of PUBG mobile. So please suggest me some ROMs that have good performance and battery life and don't have issues with touch or audio via the jack. Camera and customisation features don't have high priority
just wanted to know the same.. I was on 9.2.13 for a couple of weeks and upgraded to masik 2.2 miui 10 based... Let me tell u that miui 9.2.13 was like a god of battery backup and pubg ....and now this masik has **** backup but its smooth
I would recommend Bootleggers ROM - a personal favorite. I haven't tried all the ROMs but this ROm has just enough customizations and smoothness to make it the best for me.
I love Pixel Experience. Almost stable, no need to install gapps and mi a1 camera preinstalled ?

So far, ive been tried a bunch of custom rom on whyred like RR, AOSIP, AEX, PIXEL with custom or stock kernel, and all of them consume more battery than MIUI when playing PUBG
If you want long lasting battery when play PUBG without pluging charger to the phone when play, just stick with MIUI, it can hold up to 6hr playing PUBG compared to 5hr when using custom ROM. Ive tested this using 100% mobile data, not wifi. Maybe more SOT given up to 1hr when using WiFi
I think MIUI kernel is the point why the battery is so good on it but lack of good performance when gaming compared to custom. Maybe thats the reason.
Till now, i still testing on different custom rom and kernel to find some setting that close to MIUI battery backup.
So i suggest just stick with MIUI if you want more long lasting battery when play PUBG.
If you dont want audio or touch issues, use MIUI 9.5.17 instead the other. No ARB, loud audio when play PUBG, good battery backup too.
Hope you understand what im saying, i dont speak english very well.

Mi A1 camera is ready to use and fully functional. I have not made a comparison but surely gcam is better for other reasons and no, you need to install magisk yourself.
i was about to ask the same question too.
tried a lots of custom rom/kernel xcept miui based , all are same touch issue when playing pubg. sometimes the touch going crazy .

I was previously on 9.5.17 and I experienced severe touch issues. That's the only reason I wanted to install a custom rom

Don't really care about the camera or having to install gapps. So haven't tried this out yet but it's next on the list if Bootleggers fails

Already tried it for a couple days. Good battery backup close to the official MIUI rom. Little bit better battery backup on official MIUI. Need more days to test it with masik.
Hey!
I managed to unlock my bootloader and I'm now searching for the best ROM. My priorities are camera quality and battery life. Play Store is a must have.
I found Pixel Experience that sounded like a good option.
My version is QJZEUXM.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Havoc Is pretty good
Or you can use MIUI EU

MIUI Global is like budget version OS with Google bloatware. Xiaomi EU is like premium version with extra functions, more optimalisations for speed, bathery ussage and many others.

For me personally, it's Evolution X. , with the latest Yuki (AOSP) kernel. I'm not sure Atop that, I have Magisk and the latest R build of ANX Camera (Mi camera clone) installed, from . In my experience with this device, the camera really doesn't live up to the hype at all, but ANX seems to work a lot better than GCam. Probably because it was originally created by the folks who make the phone. My battery life was even better (2 days) on Descendent OS, but it was missing that customization flexibility that most ROMs offer, despite a gorgeous UI.
Also...OrangeFox seems to have some various issues, such as reporting the wrong architecture. Great UI, but it's not up to snuff. Stick with TWRP.

You are perfectly entitled to your own opinion. But perhaps you might want to backup your assertions with some evidence?
And - I don't recollect receiving any test reports from you on the various beta releases.
