HTC 10 unable to upgrade to Oreo in anyway - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I hope you can help me solve my issue. I spend the entire evening try to do it, reading through the post on this forum but I couldn't figure out a solution.
So basically I bought an HTC 10 unlocked in Ireland, and I currently have Android 7 , no mods or anything on it.
I know there was an OTA update available, but every time I check for software updates I get the error Can't update software. There was an unexpected error and the file system may be corrupted.
I tried then to do a manual update. I download the file (ruu I think) from HTC website and I rebooted the device in download mode and tryed to install. I got error 130
to perform a manual update via PC but it didn't work, I received a model ID error (Model ID error)
I did a factory reset and tried OTA again with no luck.
I am looking for some pratical advice, Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Vincent

Boot to download mode, read the OS line and look for the matching ruu.zip.

Hi Mr Hofs ,
OS-2.41.771.3
I should find an RUU with the same line and try the procedure again?

Yes one with the same line or a higher one, or a matching stock backup.
When you succeed to upgrade and tinker again with the device it's wise to create a pure stock backup for the future.

Mr Hofs,
thanks for your help.
I have found this 2PS6IMG PERFUME UHL N70 SENSE80GP MR Telstra WWE 2.48.841.3 Radio [email protected] 80.07 F release 505754 partial
and it's only 105MB
Do you think this one could work?
Thanks for your help, I am not very familiar with this kind of things.

As been explained you need one with your OS number. Not some random firmware. 2.48.841 doesn't come near 2.41.771 .......
also a full ruu is at least 1.8 gig
Edit :
Especially the. 771 part has to match. The first 2.41 should match or be higher.

I thought it was 2.48 hence higher, didn't see the 1
The closer I could find online is 2.41.041.4 which is lower than the one that I have so I guess is not good.
Is there other way to do it ? a work around?
My phone is running at the moment I don't know why some files got corrupted.

DELETE your imei and SN ASAP. that's never ment to be on an online platform!
Second option is to pay for S-OFF via sunshine and convert the device to wwe which has all RUU files available.
And as i explained allready and will do that again, your 771 part has to MATCH so it can't be 041 or 401 or 841 it MUST be. 771. So either 2.41.771 or 3.16.771 or 3.18.771 (as examples)

Thanks for your clarifications, Mr Hofs.
Yesterday evening I was able to find and buy this firmware 2PS6IMG_PERFUME_UHL_O80_SENSE90GP_MR_H3G_UK_3.18.771.1[email protected]_84.09_F_release_519646_signed.zip
that according to your explanation should be a good fit.
I downloaded the file on my pc and then I followed a guide to try and install it using "adb and fastboot" but when I gave the comand to run it and I received an error that the file was too big and the adb crashed as well, so I wasn't able to try to install it on the phone. I saw there are many different guides online. Do you know if there s a good one that works ?
Thanks for your help!

Yep should be great. You have to rename the ruu.zip to 2PS6IMG.zip only and copy it to your SDcard. Boot to download mode and follow the flash instructions. The file will be auto detected. Be aware that this will wipe the ENTIRE phone.
Edit :
You said "buy" ? Now i am wondering where you bought it and how much you payed for it ?

yes, I bought it for 3$ on firmware.gem-flash.com They have plenty of firmware there was also the 2.41.771.3 version.
I thought better pay 3$ than 25$ to buy the license for sunshine.
..Let`s see if it works now, finger crossed

I get few errors as well here

it says
12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
12 RU_ZIP_ERROR
FAIL12 RU_ZIP_ERROR

Do you think I should try with the original firmware? ( I can have it with another 3$ )

Dude - stop wasting your money on that website. All the files are available here @ XDA (nearly all!) for free via links already posted or by asking.
The RU_FAILED is because the file you got doesnt match the CID of your phone. The CID is basically the Network Lock on the phone - dont get confused with Sim Lock.
Go on Google Playstore and install; Simple CID Getter. Let us know here what it says. e.g; HTC_001 (Mines H3G_001 which is 3 UK Network)
Then we can get you further along.....

So thats your pain in the arse (3 network! Me too - UK!)
Currently there does NOT seem to be any RUU for our networks.
Only way forward for both of us it would seem is to S-Off via Sunshine.
If you have already - then sweet, you can change your CID to 11111111 which will mean you can flash that zip you got and it will work.
Search or ask here on XDA about changiing CID to 11111111. Plenty have done before, so shouldnt be too hard for you.
I havent done it since HTC M7 so I cant remember, need to look it up myself.
Hope that helps!

ahahah good to know!
So I understand what you say.. but what if I pay 3$ and download the exact firmware that I have at the moment 2PS6IMG_PERFUME_UHL_N70_SENSE80GP_MR_H3G_UK_2.41.771.31_[email protected]_79.07_F_release_509479_combined_signed.zip
After that (once the file system is no longer corrupted) I could try to do an OTA update
It would be too easy so maybe the problem is that I can`t be sure that firmware is for 3 network right?

Thats actually prob the 1 I need (if you have the file name BTW - search it in Google, for sure you might get lucky on a Download and NOT have to pay, might even find it on here XDA, theres a very good chance of that.)
For you however the need the file thats says H3G_ROI cos your CID is that. H3G__003 = H3G_ROI (Republic Of Ireland).
Mine is H3G__001 = H3G_UK. Soz bud dont think will work. You try, it will only fail or do it. It wont bust it if it does do it. S-OFF is calling you doh.... $25 about 18 pound UK.
---------- Post added at 11:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 PM ----------
So if you do S-OFF and wanna go full OREO and have go Super CID 1111111.. whatever it is, then heres a link for WWE (Europe) RUU OREO zip for you HERE.
Rename it as you did before to 2PS6IMG etc - you've done it before lols. Best of luck

If the version number matches it's great to use. There is no RUU with 3.18.771 created for 2 different CID sets specifically. So that's not the problem. Either take the 2.41.771 (full ruu). Not only the firmware because if your OS is screwed you will be in the same boat again I remember they pulled the US ruu and they had to update the standalone firmware prior to using to the full ruu. You could check out to take the firmware from the ruu and flash it prior to the ruu.
That's done via download mode, htc ruu mode and Fastboot commands

If you look at your and his original OS/firmware number the RUU should work. It's definitely not CID related at this point. They don't create 2 ruu files with the same firmware number for 2 or even more CID numbers, if you check a ruu and open the host file you will see more than 1 CID in there.
He has a matching ruu but i think it has the same issue as the US version has.
He took his OS line from the download mode, that number can't change without s-off so that's the thing you'd have to look at. It's not suddenly changing because of the CID.
Also if he had to look at h3g ROI his version number would have been different, in that case it should be 2.41.773 and not 771....... there is no H3G ROI for the HTC 10, it's integrated in the UK version range.
And also i googled some on this ruu, not easy to track or dead links or spam. So i can understand his call to buy it for 3.
If he wants to pay another 3 for the 2.41.771 than its his call. It's a big difference to 25. I can't look inside his wallet. However i share your feeling that sunshine would a more valuable investment.

Fair point Mr Hofs, I dont know enough really to be able to help fully. I need the same help to update my phone. I looked at the same place these RUU are available for $3 and they have alot more than has been listed (example; OREO update for 3 UK). I am considering downloading myself (and sharing for all!). I want to make sure I get the correct version - but I'm having trouble finding my version numbers so I get the right one. I've perhaps made it harder but using the Venom custom Rom. I've looked in about but cant find anything that makes sense. Can you advise where I can find the version numbers? Cheers

Man if your OS number is the same as mine I can share with you the file I downloaded and see if it can be useful for you at least.
I think I am gonna try to download the same version that I have at the moment as It seems an easier way than use sunshine to S-OFF and go down that way.
I ll keep you posted. Cheers

[Q] HTC One X - Can't Install RUU

Hi,
I've managed to mess up my HTC One X quite badly.
From poking around with fastboot I've got the following information from it;
PJ4610000
Main Version 1.26.401.2
Cid - none
Radio 1.1204.90.13
0.43.0000
I know how I messed it up. I'd not realised you couldn't install Jellybeam roms onto 0.43.000. One Cyanogenmod (cm-10.2.0-endeavoru) later and bingo, bootloop.
Didn't help that I had less than 30% battery life.
Anyway, I've now used a script to get the battery life up - but I haven't been able to run any RUU's on this - I downloaded two;
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_O2_UK_1.26.206.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251230_signed
and
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_Vodafone_UK_2.17.161.4_Radio_2.1204.137D1.21_release_280390_signed
I'm thinking now that I cant do these either because I'm on 0.43.000 or because I need generic.
Ideally I want it to be latest Android and generic stock. It's for my wife, so she doesn't need superuser - but I'd like it so If I can get there too, great.
i've read through the main sticky's, but can't work out what the steps are I should be taking to get it out of the bootloop it's in and onto stock
What do I download? Do I need to do this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
Or this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904
whilst I do it?
Help much appreciated, as I seem to be stuck at this stage.
Download a 1.26.401 Ruu or a 1.29.401 Ruu. You are trying to install the wrong ruu because the main number is different !
My advice :
Download the 1.29.401 ruu and relock the bootloader, put the phone in fastboot usb mode. Then install the ruu with admin rights and let it install. Reboot the phone and go to settings-about-software updates and check for ota....if they are there install all of them you can get !
If there are no ota's available you look for the 2.17.401 ruu and install that the same way as the 1.29 and then do the ota........still no ota, download the 3.14.401 ruu and install that too. After that you can install any rom out here.

Right so;
1 - Download a 1.29.401 Ruu.
Ok, so like -
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12_Radio _2.1204.127.19_release_271851_signed.exe?
Having real problems finding a rom download, these all seem to be on bugsylawson.com which my ISP blocks, or Hotfile which is down, but I'll look into that.
So I run that, with the device in Fastboot and enough battery life, which I use my batch script for?
2. Then 'relock the bootloader'. Is that running fastboot oem lock, when in fastboot, using the .exe in the folder and a command line?
Any special to do 'admin rights'? Or is that my local Windows account you mean?
I'm a bit worried about running OTA as apparently, some of these RUU's for the One X the OTA updates don't work - 401.6, I think?
Not sure if this affects the one I suggested?
3. Then run another RUU to upgrade if OTA doesn't work?
Is that about right (and thanks for the help, obviously!)
1 correct, try this thread for download links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094113
2: fastboot command is correct, leave the phone in the bootloader and start the ruu.exe from the pc, right click the file and select run as administrator
Ota should be there unless HTC/carrier has took them from the server, hence the advise that if it doesn't work to install a higher ruu after you tried.
3: correct

No joy with that site, I get;

Then if I proceed;
"Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/ruu/public_html/admin/dbconnect.php on line 11

See
Maybe Google the whole ruu name, there a couple of them on hotfile hosting.
I was planning to put a small selection to nu dev host. Nut thats of no use now. Not earlier than tonight
Actually I don't know the programing language, it may be PC or network security something like that.
We can do download at this site no problem.

But on reboot, I get "Reloocked" at the top, so I've tried again and it seemed to work, well enough to get me to an OS!

Hmm that's weird. Rerun the ruu. And in OS try to update
Ow or look for the 2.17.401 ruu and install that also !
And do not unlock it until you are updated high enough ! You need at least a hboot of 1.36/1.39 which is common in 401 software numbers.

Awesome thant, although the 2.17.401 ruu there is messed up. It's only 80 Mb and that's way to little !
OK, got it up to the latest official version and the screen was broken, so had that replaced.
Now need to get Cyanogenmod on it.
First thing - relocking, right?
First thing is reading and understand the things you need to do. If you start by saying to relock it we are off for a bad start !
Read the stickies and guides first on what you need to do before messing around !

Sorry, didn't mean to cause concern - I meant, now my screen is repaired and I'd got a stock rom onto it- then upgraded the stock rom several times, the first thing I needed to do was unlock the bootloader again.
I went off, read up on rooting again and followed several guides. Rooted, unlocked bootloader and I've got it to the stage now where we're on a decent level of bootloader, Cyanogenmod 10.2 (stable) is running and the phone works.
So thank you very much for that.
Only issue I have now is the battery life has nose dived. It's barely doing 12 hours.
Screen seems to be mostly responsible according to the stats, 52%.
Might just try replacing the Kernel before I go stomping back to Fonedoctors about the replacement screen.
I've made so many changes to os, bootloader etc during this process I may well have missed a step with wiping the caches or similar.
I made a full backup of the stock os before I went to Cyanogenmod, so I can drop back to that now to check it's not the os if I need.
Any thoughts on a good Kernel? Or advice on how to most easily change kernel with minmal risk? I really don't want to dabble anymore, so it's tempting to go back to stock 4.2.2 and just strip out sense 5 - which I disliked.

Just got an M9 today and need some tips...

Hello everyone, I I just got an M9 at my local Telus store and I would like to be able to do everything with it like I am able to do with my M7, so I know I will need to use sunshine to get S-OFF and I would also like to be able to change everything from the rom to the kernel to the OS, everything, so I was just wondering if someone could let me know the best order to go about doing things, meaning should I do sunshine first then worry about flashing a recovery and all that, or should I do the recovery first so that I can backup the phones current state? The phone currently says this in the hboot screen:
*** LOCKED ***
LK-1.0.0.0000
OS-1.32.661.6
and this is what it says on the phones Setting-About-Software screen:
Android version
5.0.2
HTC Sense version
7.0
Like I mentioned before, it would probably be best if I can make a backup of the phones current state just in case there are any issues, so to do that I know I need a recovery, but do I need to do the HTC Dev unlocker before I can do so? or do I have to flash a recovery first before everything else?
Now, before anyone gets upset with me for asking these questions because they have most likely been asked 1000 times before, I am not asking to be spoon feed all the details step by step, I am just asking to be pointed in the right direction and asking for you guy's opinions on the best way to go about doing things so that I do them right the first time... So if anyone could please take a minute to help me out and get me pointed in the right direction then it would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much...

First thing you should do is unlock your bootloader. After that you can install twrp and flash supersu (most can be found here) Once you are rooted run sunshine. After that the sky is the limit. You will be free to flash anything and everything. I know because I've done it. If you want to convert to a developers edition there is a post here. Personally I do not use my stock recovery or system image backups to download ota's. I prefer to run an RUU and do fresh installs. Reason why is because I am constantly changing firmware and roms. A lot of roms are based on the WWE firmware.
let me know if you have any more questions

Thank you very much for the tips.. Do I use the HTC Dev website to unlock the bootloader? I seen a link in the dev thread that said Unlock bootloader without HTCDev(root required), but I bet that the HTCDev way is probably the best best. which did you use? I'm not at home right now so I will begin when I get home later on tonight and if I need anything else I will post back, plus I post back to say how everything goes.. Thanks again for help, it is very much appreciated...

I've used htcdev for all 2 out o 3 of my m9's. third one is a developer edition so it wasn't needed.
just note download mode is fastboot mode on the m9. htcdev says to boot to fastboot mode and if you do not know than you can waste hours trying to figure it out.

Ok so I got the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, right now I am taking a backup of the phones current state just in case. Now I just need to flash the SuperSU beta from the link you provided and then run sunshine, after that I would like to flash the latest OS for my phone, but I am not sure which version to use, I think this one is correct http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-red-t3097678 but I am not 100% sure, do you know if this is the correct latest version for my phone?
Also should I supercid my phone before updating the firmware by entering "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" while in download mode? because my cid is TELUS001 and I do not see that cid listed in the androidinfo.txt file that is in the firmware zip...
Thanks again for all your help...
**UPDATE** I now have S-OFF, I can't believe how smooth the whole process is now with sunshine compared to almost all of my other HTC phones, hats off to those guys for sure... Thank you very much for getting me this far!!! I appreciate it very much...

I was actually just going to tell you to type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
while in download mode and to copy and paste that into a file a text file somewhere so you always have it. then you can supercid. I actually have never seen any firmware for your carrier. what is your mid? this is where I get all of my firmware from. I learned how to remove the red text using hex editor and I also throw in a custom splash screen before I flash.
Here is a link for your stock firmware. not sure what the most up to date is but most custom roms are using the WWE firmware anyways.
p.s. either quote me or tag me if you need a faster response. I'm not getting notifications otherwise.

I honestly don't know if the hardware is any different but it looks like your mid is the same as the dev ed. check this one out. @clsA is very knowledgeable on the m9. I learned a lot of what I know from his posts.
Personally I have gotten so relaxed that I just change my mid and cid to whatever it is I want to flash and just go for it. But I also understand that I'm risking a brick by doing so..lol

If going to dev ed I have had better luck running an RUU and accepting ota's as far as the radio goes. my reception went from 2 bars to full bars doing it that way verses just flashing the newest firmware. But it is a very long and tedious process and since you just got your m9 I'm sure you want to use it already..
What rom are you thinking about flashing?

do you know where I can find the latest international RUU? what rom are you running now?
@bigp951
Ok so I got the firmware updated to the latest international version 2.10 and was able to flash the ViperOne Rom and I love it just like I did for my M7... Everything is working great, except I have the problem that you mentioned would happen, I only show 1 bar for my signal strength, could you please let me know exactly what you had to do to fix it? Also, I would just like to say thank you once more, you helped me out a great deal and you made my upgrade to the M9 an absolute cake walk, so thank you very much for everything and for explaining the proper steps to take, I appreciate it very much...

What can i flash over 2.9.841.2

I am trying to revert my M9 as much as possible to stock. I am really annoyed by the red warning on start up.
Currently it is 2.9.841.2
Is there any way to figure out which RUU i can flash on the device? I am currently downloading 0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_Telstra_WWE_1.32.841.7_R_Radio_01.01_U11440261_56.01.50303G_3_F_release_425231_signed but was hoping to find something without Telstra branding.
TIA

Come on guy, maybe these 75 persons had no answer, not enough time to type a text or any other reason why he or she didn't help. This is not a chat where you can expect immediate answers.
But let's get back to the topic: Are you S-ON or S-OFF? (If you don't know you're probably S-ON.) With S-ON it's not possible to downgrade or to flash RUUs with a different SKU (the 841 stands for your Telstra branding). So you won't be able to use the RUU you mentioned in your first post. Either you look for a RUU with firmware version 2.9.841.2 or higher or you pay the 25 USD to get S-OFF via Sunshine. With S-OFF you could flash an unbranded RUU. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but Telstra is an Australian carrier, right? The Australian unbranded SKU would be 710. If you prefer the unbranded World Wide English version you should look for the 401.)

Thank you for the reply. I am in Australia. And i am S-ON unfortunately.
The de-branding is not even the biggest issue but what i really want is to get rid of the warning that it is a developer device on start up. Unfortunately this phone was sold to me the way it is. I have spent the last ween looking for the RUU of same or higher version but wasn't able to find even the one i am on

Well, at the moment I see three options you can choose from:
Get S-OFF via Sunshine and downgrade/debrand your phone. (25 USD)
Use the RUU service on llabtoofer's website. (don't know the price)
Hope that someone who already has an account can get you the 2.9.841.5 RUU from ir-file.
I know someone who might be able to help you with option 3 but I cannot guarantee anything. For example the 2.10.401.1 RUU from ir-file was corrupted/broken and because of that not flashable. In the worst case the 2.9.841.5 RUU might not work, either. (Nonetheless you would still be able to choose option 1 or 2 in that case.)

Why is everbody trying to unzip RUUs? Only because it's a *.zip file that doesn't mean that you should unzip it. Do you unzip rom archives, too, before you flash them with TWRP? Look at my signature and follow the instructions in the google sheet.
Thank you so much. After i gave up trying to unpack it and looked up how to do it, it worked like a charm.

It is carrier branded device - T-Mobile Poland
CID T-MOB009
MID 0P6B10000
( ckpv5 helped me to find out )
i've used the sunshine app,and now my phone is s-off and rooted permanently ( i done the thing with the token given by htc-dev)
You could have continued here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3286905
But if you want the wwe (latest firmware 4.16.401.13) than download that firmware, fastboot flash it twice and install any of the latest roms. Or run the 4.16.401 RUU.
Or if you want the developers edition up to MM then you can go for that firmware.
Edit :
The phone is not rooted permanently, it's unlocked (bootloader) permanently. Root itself is at OS level and is only achieved when you flash a superuser.zip via the custom recovery or install a pre rooted custom rom !
Fine.
A long and excruciating, nested multi-step process awaits:
Fortunately, your MID needs no modification, so without further ado:
1. You need to change your CID from T-MOB009 to HTC__001:
A. Connect your phone to your computer, boot into bootloader, and go to fastboot.
B. Launch adb on your computer and type (note: there are two underscores, and total 8 characters to the CID):
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
C. reboot your phone into bootloader and check out your new CID (adb getvar all).
2. Flash the latest available WWE official RUU (stock android 5.0/Sense 6):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563
3. For best results, from my experience, flash that RUU twice, then let it boot, then do a hard-reset from settings.
4. Get coffee.
5. Set yourself up all over again.
6. Profit

Yes, that is the only way to change CID.
Also, if you use the RUU.exe, you need fastboot interface, which goes hand in hand with adb. However, if you use the RUU zip method (put it right on the phone and boot into bootloader) than you won't need fastboot to do that.
i've done everything and i'm now at the step i try to flash my cell with RUU you've told me.
"RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed"
but problem that has been 30 minutes the status " update" of the wizard with 0/7 update was sent to my phone.
arghh..xd
edit : cid was succesfuly changed to htc__001
Disconnect the phone and try again. This just happens sometimes (its been reported, then works on the subsequent try). Put the phone in bootloader-fastboot mode, if you haven't already tried that.
If it still hangs, you might need to use a different computer. Win7 and USB 2.0 for the best chance of success. RUU is finicky with some computers.

Either:
A. Without canceling the ruu process, go to the root of your C: drive and search for Rom.zip file; copy it to your desktop, and rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (first character is zero, and careful not to rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip.zip). Copy this file to the root of your phone's SD Card. Then, boot your phone into bootloader. Proceed with the on-screen instructions.
Or:
B. Cancel the ruu process, unplug your phone, download & install HTC Sync Manager from HTC's M8 support page. Reboot your PC, plug in your phone and wait until Windows installs the drivers. Start the RUU again and proceed to flashing.
Cheers

The comment wasn't related to your issue (just a side comment). It was in response to Mr Hofs post about his presence on the One X (different phone) forum. The One X (ENDEAVORU) had its chipset supplied by NVIDIA, which created some video issues for that phone.
EDIT: Better description of the NVIDIA issue in shirreer's response below.

That was meant for Mr. Hofs. The One X was HTC's 2012 flagship*(preceeding the One M7). It ran Android ICS & Sense on NVIDIA quadcore Tegra SoC. Unfortunately, HTC couldn't keep it up-to-date (and, eventually, ended its lifecycle prematurely) mainly because NVIDIA failed to provide it with system software and drivers. Next year, HTC went with Qualcomm and never looked back.
And, then...
Aren't you supposed to be focusing on the other thing?!?

Shall I update to marshmallow?

Guys, I got my m8 about 5 days back. I think it's international Taiwan version. I have attached the images of current software version I am on.
Currently the phone is asking me about 3 very small updates available. I have attached that image also. I don't know what these updates are for.
Shall I update?
Will my phone remain unlocked after these updates?
If after these updates I get prompted for real marshmallow update, shall I update to marshmallow.
Does marshmallow offer much better and some desirable features which we currently don't have?
Btw, I am currently highly satisfied with my current lollipop version.
This thing has really surpassed my expectations. I previously had LG g pro and Xperia z ultra.
Yes, I would definitely update. The phone seems smoother and less laggy on android M. A few new features. Lollipop felt like a beta version of M.
There is really no point to not update.

I installed the 3 small updates. Phone prompted me to restart.
So I restarted.
Then I again check software updates and get this prompt:
After hitting the download button, I let it download as it starts downloading some 1.14 gb update. I also put it to charge.
But when after an hour so when I picked up the phone got the message given in second attached picture.
Can someone guide what is the issue?
That means your device is not the original Asia WWE ... I guess you don't bought a new device from authorized HTC dealer.
To know which device that originally is, you need to get the fastboot getvar all result.
Also what's written on the bootloader

It was a new sealed pack I got from eBay. But why it throws up the second message about variant. (I mean when it says mm software update available) ?
It says an update available because the software version no. installed on device is 4.19.707.4 and there is an update to 6.14.707.1
But the second message says it can't install the update because the model-ID in incorrect. It expect model-ID for 4.19.707.4 which is 0P6B11000 but your device may have a different model-ID
That's why we need the fastboot getvar all to determine your original device variant

But why doesn't it check for the compatible version automatically.
I mean it should say software update is not available for mobile.
It shouldn't prompt in the first place.
The update should automatically check which version or software or hardware I am on.
Btw I have hit the download button again and it's downloading. It's been about 10 minutes and 13% progress.
If this doesn't work this time again, I suppose will have to do getvar thing.
Btw, can the information given on following link solve my problem?
It says don't restart after installing 3 small updates.
But think that guys problem was a bit different

Those questions only HTC can answer. If I am HTC .. I don't expect the device is modified and I won't check whether the device is modified or not. Most important what is the software version no. because things like model-ID is something in the hardware not the software and users are not supposed to modify hardware.
Sorry ... I don't read outside link ... only XDA for problem reported on XDA.
If you don't feel like to fix it ... just hit don't install, don't check auto checking and block the notification ...
Good luck .. I have to go now .. bed time.
Maybe someone else will help you.

Buddy, today I found some time and installed adb and fastboot.
After going to fasboot I got to see that my device is s off.
Also ran the getvar all command.
Attached both pics.
Kindly let me know guys , what does my current configuration / status means?
And , what options I have to upgrade to marshmallow?
Here are the pics

Your device is m8_ul_ca means it is originally an AT&T or a Developer Edition device.
Now it's running Asia WWE ROM, the CID is SuperCID (which is good) but the MID is EU MID
So .. you have to decide ..what you want your device to be ?
Most important where your location is then make it suitable for your current location.
The easiest is change it to EU WWE ... you don't need to change anything ... only run the EU WWE RUU

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am from India. Is there any method by way of which I can install ota which currently throws the system variant issue after downloading the full 1.14 gb download.
Can this be due to s off?
can I just s on from s off and this will resolve my current issue.
Or its not possible now ?( Because it's modified too far?)
read just a few minutes back in one m8 thread on xda only that with a fastboot command (fastboot own writesecurflag 3) we can convert to s on but everything should be stock for this.
As I mentioned earlier, the system variant error is due to wrong MID on the device, nothing to do with S-Off/S-On status.
You would not have the system variant error if the MID is 0P6B11000 ( read back my post #7 )
To ensure a successful OTA installation ... both software version no. and MID must correct .. same goes for CID but since yours is SuperCID then it is universal for any variant.
Give you a few examples of correct version no. & MID
Asia WWE - x.xx.707.x - MID - 0P6B11000
EU WWE - x.xx.401.x - MID - 0P6B10000
India WWE - x.xx.720.x - MID - 0P6B65000
Your current configuration is wrong, that's why the system variant error.
I suggest to install EU WWE RUU so you save the headache to change this and that.
Read this for the driver part that you need on your PC - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
Read this for the EU RUU and How-to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Or if the above is not possible, I am ready to flash ruu. Then kindly guide me how and what ruu to flash? Will I have to unlock also?

Don't do this when you have this kind of wrong configuration on your device.
You'll regret your action as you won't be able to do anything not even OTA until you spend another USD25 to S-Off it again and correct the configuration.

Read what I posted earlier ... that's all you need to do .. no need to unlock but you can unlock if you want to.
My mied reads 000000.. does this mean eu mied?
Or its just because it's not a cdma device?
