Hey guys, i've just received my desire today and been using my current data connection with no problem, except every time i try to open google maps, it comes up with the error "this application requires a data connection". I have updated the firmware to the lastest.
I have searched for this error but the only thing that will come up is about a data connection being dropped when trying to use google maps/gps... except my data connection stays 4 bars the whole time.
thanks, Brandon

Brandon,
I did a hard reset (return to factory settings ) on my Desire today and guess what:
Both my Data problems (no data after use of Wifi and or GPS) are gone !
Tested several times Wifi & GPS , also did a reboot and tested again, all seems working again, no more 3G data problem anymore.
So I guess one of the extra apps I installed caused the 3G Data Connection issue.
I'll reïnstall them one by one to see if I can catch the "guilty" one.
I also hope that problem doesn't return after a while without a cause.
Still not working

I have tried this method. Everything was fine - my phone (rooted Samsung galaxy core duos JB 4.1.2) got faster. But google maps can't connect. I am stuck at the screen where you have to accept the terms and coditions (as it is launched for the first time).
Hope someone has encountered and fixed this error.
Hey, I am on SlimKat 4.4.2 build 5 (not that it matters, as I've had this problem on all the ROMs I have tried) and for some reason the apps in the title don't work on my wifi. I have tried resetting the router, wiping my cache, forgetting the network, and a few other things, all with no success. The apps just try to refresh for a long time then say connection error. Surfing Google Chrome works fine on my phone, as well as anything else that requires internet. Any tips?
If just those apps won't work then maybe something on your phone is blocking those apps from accessing the network. Try clearing app data; Settings>Apps>Find Your App>Clear Data. Also do you have an AdBlocker that could be causing issues?

About three days ago my phone stopped letting me play clash of clans over wifi, I thought it was just the router needing a restart, so switched to mobile data and that was that.
The next day I restarted the router and still no connection to clash of clans over wifi. Tried just a normal webpage in chrome - worked fine, tried going on my gmail through chrome, worked fine, but anything to do with googleplay store, or syncing with my account from my phone and it just won't connect over wifi. Mobile data and everything works.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik, factory reset, downgrading to 4.2.2 no sense, then another 4.4.4, then a lollipop, just in case it was something to do with the google apps not talking properly with everything else, but to no avail.
Went into the router and factory reset it, tried different security settings and no change. Normal wifi just using the phones browser works fine, as does everything over mobile data. But nothing to do with google is working over wifi. My partner also has an android and uses the same internet connection and all is well, I have gone to a friends place and wifi with google has the same problem.
Anyone with any ideas welcome.
On my GT-P5210 I have downloaded NavFree and MapFactor GPS map apps. Neither will not open. I touch the app icon, the screen goes blank then the desktop reappears after about 5 seconds or so. I have NavFree on my XT1045 (Moto G phone) and it works just fine. I also have two Marine Navigation packages with NOAA Charts and they work fine. But I cannot get NavFree or MapFactor GPS to run.
Tried clearing the cache, clearing data, force stopping, uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same things happens. Not sure what is causing these apps from actually working. Using 4.2.2 as the os on my P5210 and 4.4.3 on my XT1045. Both apps work with 2.3 or higher. GPS is on, Wifi is on, Location Services is on. Tablet and phone are rooted.
Thoughts?
I dumped NavFree for Map.Me, a free OSM mapping app. Not as good as NavFree but it will do just fine.
I had an issue with MMS being blocked by AdBlock Plus. So I wonder if by chance ABP was also affecting NavFree. Guess we will never find out. Ha!
Hello,
I have an issue with Google Play Services. It is using a lot of battery, it is on top of the list of battery consumers. But this issue appears ONLY when i am using mobile data as a connection, there is no issue when using Wi-fi.
Does anyone has any idea what could be the issue and how to resolve it ?
The problem with google services has been known for a long time and there is no clear answer. For starters, check whether you allow data sync only over wifi or also over mobile data. Google services and related apps (most) have an appetite for constant connection. If, on top of that, you haven't disabled/frozen most services and apps on your smartphone, then you have the problem you described.
But why this issue only on mobile data and not on wi-fi it does not make any sense
If you measure the distance to the mast your device connects to and the router, then maybe then you will understand the point.
