2017 (IR) Remote available to order - Shield Android TV Accessories

Looks like the 2017 remote can now be ordered separately! This is the one with the coin batteries and IR blaster functionality to control TV volume and power on/off. Finally!
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/shop/

Yup, I ordered one a few weeks back and it's FANTASTIC

In Europe, it costs 44€ (52$)!
Is there any way to buy a used one cheaper or to exchange it for the old one or something?

A bit too expensive for my liking.

Just received my ordered and it perfect. I loved the IR remote functions, ending up getting rid of 3 remote down to 1. I notice that the new remote is better build then the previous 2017 remote that was released earlier

FM Transmitter for Captivate?

So I am looking for a way to play Pandora, etc using my Captivate in the car. I had the iPhone FM transmitter thingy that worked great, but my question is, is there one for the Captivate?
Seems like you're looking for just a standard FM Modulator. There are many out there. I cant recommend any particular one, but you can find them on most tech sites such as Newegg or others...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6&cm_re=fm_transmitter-_-55-995-026-_-Product
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4&cm_re=fm_transmitter-_-55-970-004-_-Product
for starters...
I know Belkin stock their range of FM Transmitter's called TuneCast.
The latest models I could find was the Product TuneCast Auto Universal and the TuneCast III. Both priced at $49.99 respectively.
Quite pricey I must say.
I have a generic one I bought at Fry's for 10 or 15 bucks a while back. It's not perfect but it gets the job done. Looks like you can get them cheaper (as low as $6) on Amazon.
If you want the fancy Belkin one you can get the TuneCast Auto Universal on Buy.com for $22 shipped.
Let me know if you need links (as I can't create actual links in this post as a "new" user)
If you can wait 2 weeks for delivery...
...this is good and cheap FM transmitter. Sorry, no outside links for me yet...
Just Google dealextreme fm transmitter
It looks like Belkin TuneCast II but it's stronger transmitter. Price...$7.19...5x cheaper...
BTW cheap plastic but you can't have it all...
The FM chip in the Galaxy Phones has an FM receiver and transmitter. If they ever get it to work you might be able to access the built in transmitter and not have to use a 3rd party solution.
So far they are not having much luck.
I'm going to tell you what I tell people at work. I've tried them and it's not the best thing out there. You'd be better off biting the bullet, and just buying a new head unit for your car with a front auxiliary input.
Decent ones are going for about $80. Considering most good FM transmitters are about $60, I would just spend the extra $20 on a new head unit.
Good luck finding one though!
The best one I have used is the Monster one with configurable frequencies. Only downside is they are like 100 bucks.

Motorola Keyboard and Mouse $40

Saw this on Android Police, and thought I would pass it along.
You buy a Motorola Blue Tooth keyboard and get a blue tooth mouse for free! It's "designed" for the Xoom but should still work great on our Tabs!
Reviews are really great on it over at Amazon too:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Wire...dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
The keyboard:
http://www.store.motorola.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-FREE-Mouse/dp/B004JK7GE0
You need to add both the mouse and keyboard to your cart and then it'll reduce the price, enter in CLIQXT11 to get $7.00 off. I was looking for a keyboard/mouse combo for a while and scooped this up for $39.85.
I'll let everyone know how it is when I get it.
Duh.. US only delivery!
Thanks so much! Just ordered. Coupon works great.
How does the keyboard and mouse work with the 10.1?
Pair no problem, use both mouse and KB no problem. Default key for android no problem. Media key no problem. 15 minutes usage experiences. I would say it is a good deal!
Sounds good. I just ordered the combo, but the $7 coupon expired. Still seems to be a great deal though.
yes.mine without 7 too. hopefully later we can put more tips on using it. now i feel alright when need extensive typing jod done. shipping is quite fast .. in 3 days i got mine. it took me few minutes to figure out how to put the battery in the mouse.hehe.
Does this work with cm9? Anyone got it running on their tab wit the keyboard? Thanks
sent from my iPhone 4S.
haha I bet that confused ya
Received the Motorola keyboard and mouse combo today. I paired both of them with no problem and they work great.
I'm running TASK's v13.1 ROM and have no problems.
I also received the Clip 360 case today and it works very well with the keyboard. The keyboard has a rounded stand on the top/back of it and it fits nicely into the front most grove of the Clip case placing the 10.1 at a good viewing angle.
I ordered both on Tuesday, Jan 11 and received both on Tuesday, Jan 17. Very good delivery time even with a holiday of Monday.
I would recommend this combo if you want a easy to used mouse and keyboard.
I have just ordered mine too, by using a promotional code
MOTFORUM
use this code and get $7 off
Good luck guys
I ordered the combo at the beginning of this week, it should be here today or tomorrow.
I'm pretty stoked, it looks like a nice, solid addition to any SGT owner.
Well I got mine, and they work pretty well. Although a lot of the hotkeys for the Xoom either don't work, or do something else. The contacts button works, and the app drawer button acts as the Menu button. I'm on Galaxy Task 13, so I have no clue whether or not this is ROM related.
But I do have to comment at the quality of the products. They're both nice and sturdy for the insane low price, and typing on this keyboard feels far more comfortable than my Asus EEE PC netbook. Also, while typing this, I've discovered that Shift+Space causes a little notification "English(US)" to pop up, and does NOT enter a blank space if you're holding Shift.
Like I said, only minor inconveniences. I'm enjoying what I bought, though.
Also, I'm going to make a Q/A thread, but does anybody know how to hide the touch keyboard while using bluetooth input? It's huge and annoying.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the music controls work seamlessly with Google Music. Although the Music hotkey doesn't open the app, the song controls all work.
I know the pop-up keyboard gets annoying sometimes, but I just hit the back arrow on the upper left of the keyboard and it hides the keyboard.
EDIT: The keys that don't work are:
Music
Text
Email
All the other keys work.
I'm running Task 13.1 Lite and he's removed some of the Samsung apps that came with the 10.1 so I can't say if it's ROM related either. I believe Task did remove the stock SMS, email & music apps so that may have something to do with it.

I bought my GameKlip Mount from Dhgate.com because it was the most affordable option for me ($10). It doesn't come with the micro usb male cable so I purchased from eBay($2). The official Gameklip site didn't release a new case for Nexus 7 (2nd) gen model so I went ahead and bought a hard case from eBay. There is a soft silicon case alternative that costs a bit more than the hard. Everything costs pretty much under $20 which is a great bargain. Shipping takes awhile. The downside is waiting for everything to come.
Have any pictures? How does it feel in the hand?
Just FYI, the PS3 controller you linked to is counterfeit and I don't know how good those are in terms of quality compared to an official one.
If you live in america you should be able to find an official one at a decent price the next few days due to Black Friday sales and the release of the PS4 pushing prices down.
The gameklip is pretty neat. Hopefully they can release something similar for the PS4 controller soon.

Bought two. Both crap (pressing upwards resulted for example in going up+left). Both in the dustbin. Not worth any amount of money, imho of course

Exactly why I buy quality reputable items from reputable sources instead of searching for the cheap bargain. Wasted time is also money in my book.
Not dinging on ya or directed towards ya Pfeffernuss. Just my 2 cents is all.
It works? Fit the GameKlip with the Nexus 7?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk
gameklip works awesome with both the 2012 and 2013 N7. Not sure why he hasn't sourced a 2013 N7 case yet.... I got mine from mobilefun in the UK... took a couple weeks to make its way to me but works well... very similar to the one that Gameklip bundles for 2012.
Has anyone ordered from DHgate or Aliexpress before? I only want to buy one and I'm not sure if there's a minimum order etc?
Other options are too expensive to post to the UK!
so there are 3 things at play here:
1 -- the gameklip itself -- you're only going to find it in one place. Do the poor bloke a favor who designed and drove it to market and buy it from him.
2 -- cases for the 2013 N7 -- mobilefun is a UK company -- need a spoon too?
https://www.mobilefun.com/40828-tou...hell-case-for-google-nexus-7-2013---black.htm
3 -- as of others have said buying anything other than a legit PS3 controller is hit or miss. it took myself a bad china order before I finally broke down and bought a real one.

Need a spoon? Read my question properly!
The original poster has links for the Gameklip on sale at DHgate anbd ALiexpress. I'm asking who has had good experiences from either DHgate or Aliexpress?
I understand exactly how it works, I already own a N7 2013 shell and a PS3 controller, I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy a Gameklip..
Again I would only buy a gameklip from gameklip... Going the China route you are screwing the guy that took the time to bring it to market.

Dont forget the Limelight app so that you can stream all of your Steam games to your Nexus 7. It works RIDICULOUSLY well. You do need a relatively new Nvidia GPU in your desktop and it certainly helps not to have a garbage wifi router, but if you pass that pretty low bar than its gaming nirvana.

19.95 + 14.30 (shipping) to get to me? 40+ bucks? That 10 bucks with free shipping from china is looking pretty tempting if you ask me, specially if I don't live anywhere near the US..
Don't get me wrong though, I love to support people and their products if I like them. I've bought stuff from the US and had it shipped here, but most of it are electronics though..
If you want to support outright piracy that is your call... You won't be the first and certainly not the last.

You'll be happy to know then (I hope) that I've found a seller locally (2nd hand but still)
A bit overpriced at 75+ bucks (coz he included an original dualshock 3 controller, but I think he's making up for the delivery of the gameklip), I'm negotiating getting the gameklip only as I know a friend who's selling two original dualshock 3s for 30 bucks (coz he's bought a ps4)
You guys can save yourself a lot of money if you root and use the SixAxis app in the playstore. The app lets you pair an existing PS3 controller via bluetooth and only costs $2.53.
I use my gameklip with a drone

After connecting a PS3 controller with an OTG cable, Should the controller lights stop flashing? My 1/2/3/4 lights just flash red even through it works fine?
As do mine

Finally received the gameklip with my 6 axis ps3 replica controller. Everything seems to work just fine! Im loving it!

Official Accessories Hoped to be Released by January 2016

In case anyone has been wondering, Wilyfox have advised me that they are hoping to have their official accessories available by January 2016. I am guessing that the accessories are probably subject to the vagaries of timing of shipments from China and clearance by HM Customs. For details they recommend registering on their site to be advised of their availability.
Can't wait, it feels a bit vulnerable without a case, I'd like a window flip cover integrated into the back cover (like my Samsung galaxy S4) with auto screen on/ off.
I'm excited for the official accessories as well Although, I'm getting my hopes up mostly for a few extra cables. The frost case looks really cool and hopefully down the line there will back covers as well with that color option..
As for the auto screen on/off, I don't believe the Swift has this functionality. I used a fridge magnet to test it and the Swift doesn't respond at all while it works like a charm on both my Nexus 7s 2012/2013.
Auto screen on off can use the proximity sensor, I did on my mi4. I also use it on the wileyfox but it is less useful as the proximity sensor is on the right very close to the top of the screen so pulling the notification bar down often results I spurious activation
My main accessory would be if Wileyfox can sell additional batteries for the Swift. Maybe even a higher capacity one? One can only hope they will release a higher capacity battery for this great device! :good:
The first official accessories are available as well as a white version of the Swift. The cases are sold from Clove.co.uk (can't post links yet)
Lets see what else will be released
any news about accessories and where to buy them ?
The official cases for the Swift are sold through Clove. Although 3rd party ones seem to be better.
I just saw that on amazon uk, they have listed the battery banks- 27 gbp a pop for 10000mAh. I dig the looks and maybe will get one later on just to compare it to my RavPower 16000mAh powerbank.
No word on spare batteries or cables... I don't know if spare batteries are available for the sister models (General Mobile 4G, Cherry Mobile G1, etc).
PS: I am wrong about "No word on spare batteries". They did tweet about it a few weeks ago: https://twitter.com/Wileyfox/status/703933881490268160

[TEARDOWN] Shield TV 2017 and new controller

Hey guys, I've torn down a few things on here before (it's been a while, like GNex while) and I wanted to show everyone the guts of nVidia's new hardware, the Shield TV 2017 and their new angular controller.
Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A TEARDOWN GUIDE. If you decide to disassemble your own Shield TV and/or controller, you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am a professional electronic device repair technician, I handle top of the line phones worth $800+ and $3000+ computers all day long, I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. If you've never disassembled a TV remote, I highly advice against you opening your expensive triple figure phone/STB/tablet/computer. YOU WILL BREAK IT.
Since I remember reading threads about the original Shield TV and adding a HDD to the base model (it had the room and the bracket and the solder connections) maybe this will help some people in attempting to accomplish the same, perhaps with an m.2 drive since the 2017 base model is considerably smaller.
Shield TV 2017 pics
Shield Controller 2017 pics
The main reason I decided to do a teardown is because my 2017 controller had a sticky left D-Pad key. Turns out there was some soldering flux on the left trigger solder points that would contact the farthest edge of the plastic of the D-Pad. I used some isopropyl alcohol to clean it up and it's all better. I then felt it was necessary to teardown the Shield TV as well. I'm also hoping that someone with the Pro model of the 2017 Shield TV can enlighten me as to where the IR sensor is located, that way I can attempt to get it to work with my Logitech Harmony remote. I was not aware that the base model did NOT have the IR functionality when I purchased it.
Thoughts: Overall it looks pretty tidy. I'm not a fan of the weights added into the Shield TV. It's a set top box and will likely never move once set up. It's not uncommon for laptop manufacturers to add weights to cheaper laptops to make them feel less cheap (I'm looking at you, Toshiba) so it's nothing new. The one thing that concerns me the most is the headphone jack on the daughter board of the controller. The backside of the board solder connections have little to no solder flowing through the holes. Could be shoddy craftsmanship or a low wave-solder tank, who knows. But since it's potentially a high-wear item, it could weaken the strength of the connection and cause it to wear out prematurely. I'm impressed with it's capabilities and it has taken my then 3-device streaming setup to a single device. I even managed to get rid of my older slow and clunky Harmony 650 remote and I can do everything I need except access my TV's menu options with the Shield TV remote.
Enjoy. If you have questions let me know. All pics were taken with my Nexus 6P.

Do you have teardown of the remote control? I had problem with the dpad_center, and want to rework it.
p.s. just want to take a look if that is some design problem or anything else, my dpad_center don't have response if I press it too light, even I can feel the "click"
I can see if it opens easily, but since there are no screws I'm hesitant to open the remote since I actually use it. My left D-pad key is sticky, I suspect some leftover soldering flux just like on my controller. If it's not responding at all, perhaps contacting nVidia would be your best option. If they send you a new remote and don't ask you to return the defective one, please send it to me and I can do a teardown on that.
I'll update when I get home from work.

I had try to open it today, it quite hard, there a 3~4 "hook" on each side of the front cover, and those "hook" are not at the edge, it is about 1 mm away the edge and they seems hook on the mainboard, and the mainboard screw on the back cover , and the hook is toward center. I can open the top and both side, but the bottom near the battery opening is too hard for me.
About the IR of this remote I saw a transparent bulb (should be the IR ) and another white one next to it, may be this remote can learn some IR code?
The front cover of the remote is really thin but not as easily to broken as I think.
p.s. sorry for my broken English, nVidia said I need to return the remote but currently I am out of country, it will take few months to do the RMA for me

The remote can learn how to turn on/off non HDMI-CEC-devices. I use it to turn on my TV (not cec capable, sadly) AND my NAD Amplifier, they turn on instantly when I switch on the shield from sleep mode.
Also it can control volume of my TV and Amp without CEC via IR, although only one of them at a time. You can train the remote the IR signals in the settings app, I think it was in the screen and sound part of the settings.

Hello thank you for sharing your nvidia shield adventure.
I personally appreciate the photos.
I will like to know what size screwdriver I need to open the controller. Thank you.
I have the same 2017 model.
