Cant use mobile internet whıle on call - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

hi there,
i am new with OnePlus, and am i really so happy from that decision.
just i need one strange question. While on phone call i cant use internet connection on my both service provider ( different gsm companies btw ). even my old M7 was able to done that. have i done something wrong on settings? or this is like that?
thnx
regards

I can't use internet while on call me neither

No issues here. But I'm using a single sim for both data and call.

Iam on OOS 8.1 beta 4 using 2 sims, same can't use 4g when on call but only sometimes I have noticed my 4g drops down to 3g while on call, there should be a solution to this, I am gonna try some 4g booster apps from play store lets see if they help, cheers everyone.

Don't think this is an issue. I don't recall I could do this ever on any phone. But if you are connected on wifi there is no trouble at all. Guessing you can't do both ?

there's an option in "developers options" "mobile data always active" , if u read the little detail underneath it it says mobile data will be on even if the WiFi is connected I presume this way both will be on, but I still don't know if mobile data disconnects at the time of making a call, but I will experiment and see what happens, cheers.

I had the same issue on my OnePlus3 a while ago. I haven't encountered it on the 5T though. I'll try to look for a solution when I get home. In school atm.

I'm using turkey Vodafone and when I'm on call i can use internet but it drops to 3g from 4g, unless you use volte its normal when it drops to 3g.

Yep definitely an issue. I'm Virgin Media and EE
Don't remember it being the case on the OP3 but could be wrong

On op3 I remember having the same issue. And note 3 and note 1 too. That's why I don't think it's an issue per say. Maybe a wrong implementation or something. Can maybe be fixed by a piece of code (magisk or xposed)?

Can't receive calls when using Data network

I'm using T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro 2 on AT&T network and cant receive calls when I'm on data network (read browsing, facebook app, slacker radio app).
I'm on AT&T EDGE. Is there anything that can be done to avoid this? Thanks.

The problem is that when you're using your T-mobile phone on the AT&T network, your data connection is through EDGE, not 3G...and one of the drawbacks to EDGE is that you can't have an active data connection at the same time as an active phone call.
It's a hardware restriction, caused by the different 3G bands AT&T and T-mobile use. Your only real solution would be to get an AT&T-branded phone so you can use their 3G bands, or start using t-mobile's network with your TP2 so you can use their 3G.

Agreed that you can't do both at the same time, but it sounds like the phone should still automatically suspend the data session to take the phone call. Sounds like an application is forcing the data connection to stay active, what programs do you have installed?

I think it would be nice if it worked that way....but that's not how it's been for me. Maybe there's a registry setting that makes it one way or the other, but on the custom roms I've used it doesn't work the "nice" way. Calls go to voice mail if I'm actively accessing/transferring data (on an EDGE connection).
Are you saying that your TP2 actually does suspend the data session -- from personal experience? Or just that it should be that way?

I can't say for sure on my TP2 as I've generally got 3G coverage everywhere I go. When I was using my 8525 I specifically remember being impressed the first time I was in the middle of a download and it recovered after taking a phone call, was definitely a custom ROM too. Probably was WinMo 6.0 at that time though.
When you are using data and recieve a call it should stop data and allow the call to go thru when you are using EDGE. Since you are using a none AT&T device they probably wont fix the issue unless you reproduce the issue with an AT&T device. Also i tested this on my TMO TP2 by loading a website and making a call to my TP2 at the same time and it stopped my data as the call came thru then when i ignored the call it continued to load the website.

It may depend on other factors then -- like maybe what rom you're running. After I posted above I tested this again -- to confirm what I posted, by starting the download of a very large file. I then called my phone from a landline and sure-enough the call went to VM after a few rings. So, maybe just a characteristic of my ROM, but it's definitely true for me on T-Mo USA (on EDGE). When I stopped the download my phone received calls just fine, so it's not a general receiving-calls issue.
Tomorrow when I'm at work -- and have a full-strength 3G connection -- I'll try it again to confirm that it does receive during 3G data. I've done that test before -- I've received calls with my laptop tethered to the TP2 on 3G and kept the data connection and received the call, but I haven't tried with the rom I'm currently running.

I experienced the same thing with my EDGE-only Wizard (8125) on AT&T...incoming calls would be routed straight to voicemail if I had an active data connection going. And, whenever I would try to make an outgoing call, I would get an error message telling me that I couldn't make the call until I closed the data connection.
We all agree that EDGE can't multi-task like that, so to speak...but I think the issue of prioritizing or not prioritizing voice over data is handled at the device level, and/or by carrier control, rather than as a function of what the network can/can't do. My guess at this point is that there might be a reg setting that controls giving calls default priority at all times, but I have no idea what/where it is

Yeah, that's what I was thinking....well, guessing really -- I don't know. But I know what my experiment showed. A registry setting could explain why it would work for some and not others. Or could a different radio-rom possibly make a difference?
I have no idea.

Now that you mention it, my money is on the radio (don't know why I didn't think of that).
blueguy, what radio are you using? And for that matter, what ROM? ATT, Tmo, or...? I'll test it on mine just like MCbrian did, since I have a different radio (.14), once I recall how to force my toy into EDGE-only mode. so, tomorrow morning
EDIT: sik96teg, same question to you...what radio/ROM are you using?
right now im on 4.49.25.57(i believe this is the stock tmo 6.5) radio and i have tried a few other radios over the last few monthes(never really tested them but dont recall this issue). i use to be on an energy rom and now im on leo cell evo rom. Also when i did have this issue a long time ago i called tmobile and they stated at the time it was a known issue and it was suppose to be resolved in a few days and a few days later it started to work. I also made about 10 calls and only one of them didnt come thru to the phone. My home phone rang for about 30 secs then went to vm but no indicator on the device but that only occured 1 out of 10 tries.

Just confirming what I thought: On a 3G data connection, data-transfer continues and the voice call is received simultaneously, as it should.
Thanks for your inputs and my answers
I'm using Tmobile ROM which upgraded me from WinMo 6.1 to WinMo 6.5. I'm not sure what was the radio on it. But I flashed it with Hard-SPL and then with 4.49.25.88 Radio.
Even then the issue still persists
I read somewhere it happens due to NOM1 and NOM2 kind of EDGE network. NOM1 has capabilities to suspend data connection and give preference to phone call, NOM2 doesnt support this behavior. It seems AT&T is using NOM2 in my area. I'm not sure though if this is causing the issue that I'm experiencing.
I called AT&T Technical Support and they said they see my phone as Unkown device and can' support it.
Please this is really annoying, any help is appreciated.
Same here, I am currently with the new official (ok better leaked) ROM and the Radio that was provided (the latest).
The point is that when I am on 3G i can receive both data and calls which is obvious. Now after reading this thread I noticed that when I am on standard GSM and someone calls me, they get notified that my phone is switched off.
What is weird is the fact that there should have been an option to state Call over Data or the opposite for that matter. I think my old Nokia N95 had a similar option.
So, yeah, is that a bug or a feature?
i'm just guessing...but, I believe the simultaneous data/call is a function of 3G .....EDGE is the bare-bones basic thing....
at least that's how they make it sound in the commercials
....i should have read the replies in the thread...

When I tested this (on EDGE) by calling my TP2 from landline it went to voicemail. Another time I was on EDGE and someone tried to call me and they had your experience: "Out of area/unreachable". And this was within 24 hours, on the same rom without changing any setting (at least, not on purpose).
I've never seen an option to set data/voice priority.

I flashed Energy ROM with .88 radio, it did improve download speed. But still don't receive calls while using data.
Is there any other ROM which allows this?
The Rhodium isn't capable of simultaneous data and voice.
You should have a GPRS Class A phone, but that should have 2 antennas. (See link)
So only one of them is active, data OR voice.
But normally it should pause the data connections and give priority to the voice connection.

I believe it IS capable, if you are on 3G data. Not if you are EDGE / GPRS.

Yes -- it absolutely is, as stevedebi states, on 3G. So the limitation on EDGE isn't the phone, really, it's the nature of EDGE/GPRS.

Data connection keeps randomly not working?

It seems random when the data connection works and the internet works on my phone. I'll sit there with full 3G signal and i get "cannot find the DNS Server" error when trying to load webpages :S
is this a problem with my Samsung Omnia 7, Windows Phone 7 or my network (Orange UK)?
I have this problem on my HD7 as well. If I have a 3G connection, it doesn't work. It only works on H (HSDPA).
Funnily enough, I had the same issue with my HD2 running WM6.5, which makes me wonder if WP7 is using the same comms drivers.
I have this problem too! A LOT everyday in diferent locations.
Actually how can I enable the HSDPA on my HD7? Because I can only get 3G.
These are just network errors.
I use internet alot and it happens on every device I had.
My WP7 is actually pretty stable in this regard.
Same! Never works on 3g only ever H you sure its just network errors cause it happens alot
YES this is a major problem for me with my Omnia 7, I even got a replacement phone from my carrier (Optus Australia) because of it... and it's exactly the same. It's extremely frustrating and makes the phone damn near unusable. Happens on every device? what a load of rubbish, if I put the SIM in my old iPhone 3GS it works FLAWLESSLY. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Yep, I have the same problem with my Omnia 7.
On all 3 of the networks i've used it on, T-Mobile, Virgin and GiffGaff.
Only solution is to reboot the phone.
I thing i've noticed, is it seems to happen when I move from an area where I have WiFi access (Home/Work/Cafe) to an area where i'm using a Phone network ?
I think we can only hope that the upcoming WP7 update fixes this. Also it seems enabling airplane mode then disabling it also fixes it in a similar way to rebooting the phone.

Im having the same issue with my HD7. Only EVER works on H. Not on G or 3G. It's driving me insane. The exact same sim on the same provider never had an issue on my Touch Pro 2, but this phone is shocking for internet
I get this occasionally on my HD7. Not really an issue right now. It does get annoying sometimes when the wifi in my house isnt strong enough to connect

You do realize that phones switch to H only while they are actively swapping data, then fall back to 3G while dormant, to save battery?
Try it - leave your phone alone for a bit and it will switch from H to 3G. Now access something on the net and it will switch to H (if possible) to get the data, then after a few seconds of inaction it will switch back to 3G.
So yes, it is correct that it only ever works on H!
Mind you, it would be nice if it worked on G too, I'm sure it should but mine never does.
hm i thought the " H " means that i dont get 3G signal.
but i think i had the same problem!
solution:
you only need to turn OFF WIFI
somehow its not using 3G when wifi networks are close,
even if you not connected to one.
turn OFF wifi or maybe only "discover new networks"
turning OFF wifi always brings me 3G back ...
Just to add my experience here...
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 and had never experienced any issues with 3G/H data/internet issues on the 3 network in the UK.
However, I've come over to Australia to visit the folks and have put in a Virgin SIM, now I really struggle with this. The connection just isn't working even with full 3G signal.
As pointed out, toggling my Airplane Mode works most of the time - I guess this is because the phone re-registers itself with the network when you enable>disable airplane mode (just like it would if you rebooted it). Curiously toggling the data connection option seems to have no effect.
Pain in the a*se.
I had connectivity issues with my Samsung Omnia 7. I worked out that my phone was not playing nice with my router and so my wifi connected but didn't actually work.
Also, I found that 3G performance was sub-par and many apps timed out because they were taking so long to get connection.
I solved these problems by flashing a new firmware. It was a little tricky and it is potentially risky, but a quick google will lead you to the relevant information.
I used a European firmware (I am in Australia on Optus), but it works fine. I just had to change all the language settings.
Now my phone's 3G and WiFi connections both work a lot faster (no more waiting for an eternity for the marketplace to open for example).
I have the same problem and read on create.msdn.com it has something to do with how wp7 handles the connections.
If the provider cuts off the connection frequently it loses its 3g signal or something like that. Thats why my push notifications are just unreliable. If I take my sim out and use wifi only. It just works and keeps working as soon as I connect to wifi. When 3g comes into play and the carrier cuts me off because im not actively using, the phone struggles to recconect for push etc.

Not connected to Mobile Network after being on Wifi?

This has been a frustrating issue I've been having pretty much since starting up my T-mobile service about a month ago.
To start off, my G3 is unrooted and on the latest stock software version, 20e.
I use Wifi calling often because I get 0-1 bars of reception at work. All seems to work well until I go outside and try to make a phonecall over the voice network. I'll have plenty of signal bars, be connected to 4G even, yet when I try to use the phone dialer to make a call it will say "Not connected to Mobile Network." or something along those lines.
I haven't done extensive testing, but I believe the other day I toggled the "Mobile Data" off then back on and was able to make calls.
Has anyone else had this trouble? Is it something possibly to do with Wifi and/or Wifi calling?
I believe I could make a phonecall using Hangouts when I was off of wifi, which tells me that the data part is working, but not the voice network.
I contacted T-mobile support, but they just had me do the "typical" things, like shut down the phone, remove the battery/SIM, start everything back up. And sure enough, it worked after that, but I'd rather not have to restart my phone or toggle stuff to get it to work as it should without any hassle.
Thanks!
My wife has the same problem after the 20E update. Her mobile is stock as well. It did not happen on 20B.

Off the top of my head no. I'll dig around a bit and see what if anything I come up with.,
From the digging I did I can't seem to find any help. The only thing I can think of is to factory reset it thing and see if it helps. I am going to do do it on my wifes phone tonight.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too... I'm not really in the mood to deal with restoring all of my apps and whatnot, so I'll hold off on the factory reset for now.
If you remember, could you let me know the results? If I know for fair certainty that a wipe will fix the issue, I might do it.
Thanks!
It's a network problem and it is worst on Samsung phones. I recently went and got a new sim card and it seems to have fixed it. I read it is because if you live in a area where there is poor coverage it causes your sim to where out fast.

This started happening before my first month of T-mobile service was even up with a brand new SIM. I'm not saying that it's definitely not a SIM issue, just would seem unlikely that it's worn out that fast.

Error- "Data connection not avaiable for voice calls"

Hey folks,
today I got a weird problem on my Z2. After i turned off airplane mode i wasnt able to recieve calls and SMS even tough datas connection worked fine and still does, when trying to call i get this message as in the title "data connection not avaible for voice calls". I'm pretty sure i didn't touch anything related to that lately so i tried with another SIM (same carrier) and i get the same problem. I'm unable to try on another device though but i think it's related to the phone or at least related to the carrier.
If anyone has experienced this already or has an idea about how to fix this please let me know!
Cheers

Do you have Advanced Calling turned on? As I understand it, that requires both a voice connection and data connection. Also, have you tried driving far enough that you would be connected to a different cell tower? It could be an issue of hardware failure at your local cell tower.

On the last couple of versions of Android, it has been in the upper part of the settings page, where the various wireless settings are grouped. If you don't see it, and you have a "more settings" or "..." entry at the bottom of the wireless settings, click on that.

Question Mobile data interruptions on POCO F3 - is there any cure?

Hello, I tried searching on XDA and elsewhere but could not find an answer so I hoping to receive help by writing my issue here.
I have bought two POCO F3's 128GB & 256GB on Amazon & Aliexpress respectively.
They both have the same issue when using mobile data (4g) loading websites and doing voice & | video calls like FB messenger there are interruptions like for a second there is no sound or video freezes. It does not happen on wifi or other phones.
I tried resetting APN, selecting proffered network to LTE, rebooting, switching SIM slot, resetting wifi, mobile and bluetooth settings. Updated both phones to MIUI Global 12.5.1 still no luck.
Country Lithuania (EU) carrier TELE2
We really like the phones, but this is pretty annoying as we do a lot of video calls due to quarantine and what not.
Amazon suggested to replace the phone but seeing as two of them having the same issue it will most likely will not help.
Anyone experienced these issues and came up with solution?
From what u described, seems to me is a bandwidth/mobile data speed problem. Looks like is not enough bandwidth for video call to work properly. So, what is ur bandwidth provided by ISP? What mobile data plan had from ur telephony provider? Maybe ur mobile data signal is low in the place where u make the call from. It can be so many reasons for the issue u confront with, other than a problem with phone itself (a hardware/software issue).
you can also try the latest china stable firmware 12.5.4

Hi, ty for reply. That should not be an issue, reception is great and we tried it in multiple locations. Our previous devices Iphone 6s/ Poco F1 worked flawlesly with the same carier.
Here is speed test done on mobile data.
Any other ideas?
Found this thread here and I found a solution. Apparently there's an issue with network interruptions in general, especially on phone calls. This can be avoided by switching on VoLTE and WiFi-Calling. This is what I found out over time.
Here's the fun part though: Through a little bit of research this turned out to be a vodafone-problem. I am just guessing you guys will be either also on vodafone or on the corresponding bandwidth in your country.
It seems to be a bug in the F3, but also something that happens when VoLTE is not activated for your SIM card. The phone will try to use VoLTE and this connection will fail, forcing the connection to reset. It will be back in 10-20 seconds, but this is of course super annoying whenever a stable connection is needed (like phone calls...)
Enter *#*#86583#*#* (86583 = VOLTE on dialpad) on your phone. and it will give you a feedback that the carrier check has been disabled. Note that this doesn't mean that VoLTE has been disabled. Checking the network for the capability is disabled then, which makes the setting visible on the SIM card settings. Same works for VoWifi btw.
Try playing around with those settings and see if the connection drops persist. I have no logical explanation why this is happening because what I am telling you is obviously call-related - and I do realize that what you're describing is about the data connection. For me this was related however and solved my issue.
Possible solutions:
a) try to get your service provider to switch on VoLTE for you (this worked for me). You're going to need to call support for that. They will reset your SIM card in the process. Reboot your phone and be done with it.
b) If a) is not possible, deactivate VoLTE in the menu that you activated with the code above. If you're lucky, this will stop the phone from trying to get this type of connection working, even though it's not available. This is broken exception-handling on the phone's side and Xiaomi promised to fix it. They are aware of the bug (since Aug 20th btw) and promised to push a fix into the next MIUI release
c) play with the settings and try to get the phone to not use alternative protocols, just 3G and 4G, also deactivate Wifi-Calling.
Hope this information will help somebody. If all goes well, Xiaomi will fix it and this will behavior will be gone in the next release.
same issue for me with 12.5.7
data interruptions all the time and full signal loss
very disappointed with this device from the day i got it.
O thought I'm the only one facing this problem.
It's so annoying to get an interrupted connection in the middle of the game.
not only game, and calls, i have too much trouble to get throught a call.
Hello all,
i was also affected by a similar issue.
In my case the symptoms were:
On mobile data/5G some apps would be accessing the internet but others wont..
I was able to overcome this by resetting the access point settings and then applying the ones found here:
Cytamobile-Vodafone Cyprus APN Settings for Xiaomi Poco F3 GT - APN Settings
apn.how
I hope it helps...
My fix for this occasional issue is to set the phone to '3g' only in network settings, then flick it back to '5g'. It seems to be area specific for me. Very bizarre.

Has anyone return for service the device?
It looks like we still have this problem, my F3 modem is crashing every few hours especially when it switches bands, very annoying.

It really is! We need a bug bounty for this
Hey I ran into the same problem in Hungary Vodafone Poco F3, 14.07 MIUI
4g net is working flawlessly but
Network connection is lost when start dialing
Nobody can reach me on phone
Enter *#*#86583#*#* (86583 = VOLTE on dialpad)
VoLTE select option turn on/off
Enter *#*#869434#*#*
VoWiFi select option turn on/off
I tried to switch on/off both but no solution just yet
sby has answer for this?
Where should I post this problem to be solved?
I also have this problem and I am from Iran. My mobile ROM is the global version. It seems that this problem is caused by the Poco F3 mobile hardware itself. If anyone finds a solution, please let me know, thanks.
