Android is a new open source mobile operating system that Google developed and an SDK has just been made available.
It would be great to see this ported to the Universal if its possible.
I don't see why it would not run since the Universal can already run Linux (to some extent) and Android is just based on that. Whether and to what extent the hardware can be supported is another question that only our programmers can answer. As we can surely count HTC out on supporting their legacy devices it might not be worth anybodies time in the end.
SDK for Android would not help at all. It is just a set of headers and import libraries. To port something to a device you need complete source codes of its kernel, software, etc. Even more - we don't know hardware requirements for Android. It may require the NOR flash to run from it - and we don't have it on our device at all.

Nobody uses NOR these days, it's too expensive and provides no real
benefit over NAND. The XIP days are over.
I hate java with passion, but i don't see any reason why Android software
will not be running on the universal.
Any news? I mean: can Universal run an Android ROM?
I saw something on tytnII, is there an hope?
can anyone confirm if android requires a customised hardware or minimum requirements....
By The Looks Of It I Shouldnt See Why Not...
I Saw That Video Of It On The Tytn And It Looks Like Its Just A Linux Based Kernel Booting Though Haret.
Theirs Already Some Pretty Good Progress With Linux On The UNI And I Dont See Why It Shouldnt Be Possible To Patch This Up. (Wish I Could But Im Not A Linux Coder )
maybe something like this
(click on the emote)
could be done for univ.
Getting A Replacement
I Get My Replacement XDA Exec On Monday Hopefully So Ill See If I Can Do Anything. No Promises Though
Regards,

It looks promising but I am also awaiting the Ubuntu Mobile edition for PCC: it looks awesome!
if it has to run java bytecode
hi a .CAB solution should be possible. tis my prefered choice at present. KVM with class jar anyone??
any news ?
Kaiser can run Android, any ROM for Uni?
In this thread we have Android ported in to a Kaiser, hope someone is working on an Android ROM for UNI!!
It looks very nice the interface
Does anyone knows more info about this?
Thanks
Gracias
Any news on Android for Uni?
I've been trying to get it to work on my ELFin too, but i gave up when i only managed to get the Linwizard running without startx... (i dont know how to telnet and startx -.-)
Any news on this?
I'm thinking of getting a universal but i'm gathering info on it atm!
Has anyone been able to get some real progress on this matter?
I installed this onto my main memory, but when I run it I get a blank screen and the phone vibrates continuously, what am I doing wrong? I think this version is supposed to work on the Universal.
hye !
i also tried to install android on my universal, but it didn't work at all, i only had a black sreen and it vibrate without stopping. if someone has an idea, or a new thread were we can find out a running android os for uni... i take it !
Very keen on this
Is there a project? .. I'm a developer and would be willing to assist, but i haven't got enough experience with these devices to start the project off myself...
Count me in as a beta tester
It would be great to have Android on Uni!!
So this news means that very soon developers can start working on android to be ported on other devices!!!

Greetings all,
I would like to know something that seems to be so simple it hasn't been documented here anywhere.
My question is: How do I build the source provided by Google for my Desire HD?
Yes, there are tutorials, don't point me to them. They either provide you with the AOKP way or the CM way.
I want to build my stuff from scratch.
Is there a generator that will create the necessary file structures for me (in the devices folder)?
Is there a complete list that my rom needs to include in order to make it run on my device (preferably a list of folders I need)?
I know about the vendor files, these are created by a third party. How do I know what vendor files I need to create? How do I know how to name them?
Don't get me wrong, I've used C, C++ and C# for YEARS (I think about 8 now) and I know how to code. I just don't know how to compile android!
It doesn't seem that hard though, I've seen threads where people provide ROMs for the Desire HD without even having the device!
Also, how would I test this and debug it? I don't think it's safe to just flash my rom once I get it compiled to my actual device and possibly brick it.. Can I use an emulator?
I hope you will read this post before answering something alike "Plenty tutorials" or "This can be found everywhere", because it can not. I can only find AOKP or CM ways, I want neither.
Greetings Ultimate-Tester
The only time I know of that this has been achieved for this device is aospX, an ICS ROM on the Inspire 4G forums. It is much harder than you would think. Google does not support this hardware, HTC does. So there was never AOSP source for this device.
Yes, I can imagine how hard it is. As I said I have programming experience, it's just that I don't have it with Android ROMS.
I have built mainly for Windows, also on Ring0 level (which is the lowest level you can get) so I think making drivers is a task I can handle. I am definitely not underestimating it.
Could anyone give me an answer to this line:
Code:
Is there a generator that will create the necessary file structures for me (in the devices folder)?
Is there a complete list that my rom needs to include in order to make it run on my device (preferably a list of folders I need)?
I am very interested in how other people knew what folders to create and what files to put in them. How would the Google Source (envsetup) know which device files to use and what not? Again, can I generate the file structure somehow?
Greetings,,
My suggestion is to use device trees from AOSP-based ROMs that already exist for this device. For example, look in the cfX manifest.xml for Ace-specific stuff (kernel, device, etc.). I personally haven't seriously tried this before, so that's all I can offer.
Okidoki, will do. Then for the last item: Testing.
What will be a safe way to test out my brew?
What will actually happen if I flash a ROM with missing files? I hope there's an underlying catcher that will send something I can see in logcat and fix it that way.. Is this the case, or will I immediately brick my phone once I do something wrong? Do I need to make sure something is 100% there in order to reach my recovery again?
Greetz,,
I'm nor aware of any safety nets. If you're developing, you probably have to be willing to take the risks.
Hello,
I want to become maintainer for Lineage OS for specific device (I will buy the device to maintain).
Could someone plz explain me the process of becoming the maintainer and pre-requisites for it?
I had a look at teamoctos/join-our-team/ but it will be helpful if someone explains all those steps in it.

Thanks
I'm not sure about this but however:
First of all you will have to build device tree for that device (I guess that device isn't supported at the moment, if is than you can contribute to that repo on github via pull requests and wait for them to approve change) and that device tree works without lethal bugs. Also you'll need kernel that won't make you much troubles because manufacturer probably published sources (they had to). And when you make it work than you can try to conntact them about joining team, if they accept new devs, because I read somwhere about how to make CM support device officialy they mention only they support devices they own, they not mention anything about joining team if I remember well. It's best that you conntact them and ask I'm sure there is way for that.

Unless a specific thread states otherwise (which will provide you with the individual or location to do so), the XDA Forums isn't where you request this.
Regarding the Official LineageOS, though, the XDA Forums isn't where you request this either, here's the only location (at this time) to where you can find what you're looking for.
1) Go to the following link:
http://wiki.lineageos.org/faq.html
2) Scroll down to the following question (without quotes):
"My device is not officially supported, but I’d really like to give LineageOS a try. Can you support my device?"
3) It is there that you'll find the information you're looking for as well as the E-Mail address to where you can send them the information.
Good Luck!

Yes, I made a mistake... I was tired of my completely locked and unsupported Samsung S7 and wanted something sleek that would be rootable/ROMable - so I purchased the OP7T after only a cursory web search for root/roms (and quick XDA threads). Saw a few ROMs posted so off I went to eBay... Yes, I beg forgiveness and patience from now on in this post. My unsupported Samsung was still able to get a "patch" for contact tracing... I love the OP7T, it is fast, and Oxygen is a refreshing change from my past OEM Firmware on LGs and Samsungs (fortunately was able to TWRP and Lineage my old LGs). However what I really want to do is Brax the phone (and yes, I know the consequences, but the whole point of MODing a phone is it gives the user/owner a chance to make their own choices). I want to install a ROM without GAPPS, no google at all. FDROID, and open source only if possible. I don't game on my phone, it is a communications tool only. I truly wish I was smart / talented enough to build out a ROM on my own but I am dependent on those who often reside here for options the OEM and carriers will NEVER make available. If anyone has any suggestions for this 7T they would be greatly appreciated. The frustrating part is that a lot of the listed MODs/ROMs I found thus far include GAPPS. There may be a way to remove them from the custom ROM, but again I am not a DEV. I have some linux skills, but those are all sys admin, not coding by even the lamest of stretches.
Again, to any forum member/power user/or dev that responds - thank you for even taking the time. I know this is a noob type post. But I am desperate to try and accomplish this task after a hardware investment that may have been misguided. With this year (in the US) going as it has, I want big tech out of my pocket - literally.
Thank you for your time,
XGhost

Ok, looking deeper and finding more hope than originally found. Thank you for the input and now I just need to take the plunge and start digging into the phone and the firmware. Unfortunate about TWRP, but there are plenty of good options to manage it without that. Take care!
Hello guys! I am a bit tired today to explain all the details, we will be writing a better post soon. But for now this will have to suffice.
TL; DR;
We are going public on how to hack the headunit for HKMC vehicles. This applies to pretty much all Gen5W models, requires no soldering, and yeah, its fun I guess.
This is pretty much for devs tho, so if you expect to run youtube with this today, sorry, but not yet. It will be possible tho, but so far we were focused on getting the access.
What is all this about? This project aims to give users ownership of the headunit on their cars. You paid for your car, you own it. That includes its computers. With this project we aim to provide you with the ability to extend your stock functionality on certain korean models.
We are not on this for commercial gain, however, you can use whatever we've learnt so far to build and sell CFW if you wish, that is up to you. I only ask that you contribute back and share your findings. Basically, open source mentality between us here. We all want the same at the end of the day, which is completely owning our cars and the systems on it.
We do not sell the access to the hack.
We do not sell the tools to get access to the system.
We share our knowledge.
You can:
Build and sell your CFW using the tools / knowledge that comes from collaborating. (Please, strongly consider sharing how things are done so we can attract more developers when we decide to go "public")
Also, consider safety first. Let's try not allow non-technical people to drive while watching netflix. But this is completely to your discretion.

hello good friend. Do you have any information about HU Gen5w using Motrex's android 9.0 backend?

Just to be clear, did you extract a key already from the unit? I haven’t included any decryption binary nor key on the gitlab, the files you see there (DecryptToPIPE & the .DER file) are just placeholders, read te contents of those files for details

American Units actually use Android, but I don’t think it’s that latest android tho. In any case i know somebody else is working with android units but I don’t know how far they are

Ah, that's it. You need to dump headunits software first.
So decryption key is uniq for each car?

Not entirely sure. Nobody has yet found the key besides me (or haven’t spoken up) so I can’t compare if keys are unique across units. But the key in your unit will be able to decrypt all gen5w updates up to date. To get the key you don’t need to dump the whole software, it’s enough to just rename a program in the unit, put a shell script where that program was , once called, get the args passed to the script (you’ll have one of the args as a path) copy the content of that path to your usb and then lastly call the original program so the process works as expected for the headunit. (Man in the middle).
The reason we don’t share the key (or the DecryptToPIPE software) it’s because that might be copyrighted material, and we are avoiding any copyright infringement.

Hello guys, I want to tell you my story, and I need a little help from you also :
My car : Kia Sportage QLE Gen5 navi, updated to sw : 211029 fw : 210930
After update , no way to find pin for engineering mode, only dealer mode with pin 2400 and 7,3,1 volume combination. But with navigation hack, showed in this thread I managed to enter engineering, and managed to make adb to work on ethernet, but the only way to do adb to work was by installing an USB to Ethernet converter into USB, connect and ethernet cable between converter and my laptop. Don't know for sure if it is necessary or not, but after installing everything ( usb, cable, etc) I made an Reset to factory . Connected the wifi of unit and phone to house router, and finally was able to install apps with Easy fire tools.
I manage to install boot hack and now when I press 2 times on SETUP is going to engineering menu, and from there I can access all other applications that I have installed ( file manager, soundabout).
So I hope someone else who wants , can now get adb to work and install what he wants.
Now I want to ask the ones who already managed to install apps, if they can help my with some apps that are tested and working OK : I need an IPTV software, I installed GSE IPTV, with was working ok before upgrade, but now it does not start playing, only loads m3u list, you can select channel, but .. not start. Youtube working has anyone? I installed an older version, but it say it can not work without google services. And last, is there a way to add shortcuts to apps in oem menu? or a way to quick access them? or something like task manager? not to be forced every time to go to all apps and start app from there?
Thank you, end if someone needs more help with adb to work, and did not understood complete what I said, please fell free to ask, if I can I help with pleasure.
I downloaded the my20 update for xceed, but the installation checks update files section gives an error at %30 and I still could not update. Can you help me?
New updates on this guys ? Is this project abandoned ?
