I'm rooted with latest Magisk but it's not possible to delete system apps by using root explorer, even when mounted R/W.
Is there a trick or do i have to use TWRP?

Only trick I know is to download Titanium Backup for Android and give it Magisk root approval.
Use it to delete apps.
Take note: I have destroyed several 100% stock Oreo setups by removing system apps. Have not narrowed it
down to which apps caused that. But be ready for it to never reboot followed by flashing the entire system again.
Hm, I don't understand why it's not possible to delete system apps or folders (in fact apk kan be deletetd, but folder not),
You can delete them in TWRP, but be careful on which apps you delete because as already mentioned in this thread, you can be stuck with an unbootable system.
I'm planning on creating a custom flashable zip for myself that removes certain apps, changes the font, and boot animation in one go; just to streamline the process after I factory reset & update every month.
I can delete the APK by using ROOT EXPLORER, but I'm not able to delete the folder of the app.
Strange, on all other devices that was never a problem
Just freeze what you dont want. What did you want to get rid of anyways?

Rooted using Unrevoked. Have Root Explorer installed and Titanium. I know the system apps are in the folder: System/Apps When using Root Explorer I don't have the options. To uninstall the apps bit I can delete them. However, after deleting them the programs are still there. Same thing happens when I try to do it with Titanium. Is there something I'm overlooking?
System Apps do not get installed/uninstalled. Deleting them is all you need to to. However, since it appears you are still running the stock ROM you need to make sure you delete the corresponding odex file too.
I only had the stock ROM for about a day before I rooted and installed a different ROM (which was deodexed). BUT, I recall reading that both files need to be deleted.
I suggest that instead of deleting the files place them in a backup folder just in case you might need them later on. As mentioned before you must move the APK and its associated ODEX file if it has one. Sprint applications tend to be updated so uninstall the updates then move the Sprint applications using the aforementioned method.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G. EVOke (v.) - Summon into action or bring into existence, often as if by magic.
so i have to move the sprint apk files and odex files (if applicable) before I can delete them? I already tried deleting them w/o backing them up or changing their location but they keep coming back!

Are you mounting the apps folder with "rw" privileges before deleting?
Yes, I am. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. I swear to god these ****ing apps come right back after I reboot the phone. I delete them with Titanium and/or Root Explorer and after a little while they pop up again. I have no idea what is going on. I rooted with Unrevoked 3.21...maybe something didn't go right?
I also can't get BusyBox to install which is a major pain in da ass because so many apps need it
are there any way to freeze any system application without uninstall?
Does any one use root uninstall?
is it possible to rename file in system/app/ .apk to .backup
Thanks in advance to everyone..
1) Titanium Backup usually used to freeze apps effectively.
2) Root Explorer can be use to rename apk file and preventing it from running. I normally rename apk to rem. No reboot is required as it work immediately after rename done. If you ever need the app run again, just rename it back to apk and it run again.
Thanks so mutch....i think this question will be useful for everyone...
so...only one doubt....is it necessary to remve the relative file in data/data and in data/dalvik-cache??
Not need to remove anything if you're only want to freeze it or disable it like what I mentioned above.
thanks....i will try immediatly
I think,,, rooted device can use R.E renname the *.apk files (/system/app, /data/app)

We already talk about it if you read again above. It's assumed OP Defy's is rooted...
bloat freezer is back on the market
I'm using a Xperia ARC
Recently I have unlocked the bootloader, and rooted the firmware (0.62) by recovery method, and removed some system apps by using root explorer (the method of moving xxx.apk to sd card).
However, the Play Store always force close when I click "accept" to download apps, so I tried to move back all the system apps from the sd card to system/app folder. But after moving them back, and had a reboot, those apps still did not appear in the app drawer, it seems that they can not be restore successfully. I open root explorer and go to system/app folder, and click on the apk files, an installation window pops up and asking for permission for installing, rather than replacing <---- this proves that those system app are not restored yet, even I moved them back to the system/app folder.
Sorry for my poor English and hope you guys could understand what I am saying. Still not getting into Play Store and thinking of flashing a Generic Global ROM if the problem still cannot be solved........

First of all, check the permissions after transfering the files.
And,before moving the apps, you must make a backup of the apps using TitaniumBackup app. This app completely backs-up your files and can restore the apps just as perfect.
I suggest you to flash the generic rom and root again but this time, make backups using TitaniumBackup app and then remove the bloatware..
Many thanks! TB works great!
I started this for several reasons.
1) For those who have deleted some system/app(s) & want to manually restore to get ready for the KK ota.
2) /persist dilemma. It is only on our phone yet both recoveries allow you to format it but do not back it up!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48941876&postcount=2061
3) /firmware Also not backed up. Both recoveries format it. But Rsd lite will restore it.
I put some very obscure folders here & they may never be needed! DO NOT GO & restore these just because I attached them! If it ain't broke don't fix it!
Get the full zip here http://batakang.com/ftp/?dir=devs/mhous33/XT907/98.30.1
It is the largest one there!
You can extract even a single system/app with Explorer free & paste it with es file to get OTA ready
But some /partitions are only on the phone. Some are created on boot
1 folder not ANYWHERE BUT ON YOUR PHONE is /persist.
Persist permissions are here

Some wonder why Vzw does not want us rooting?
/Firmware is in the xml/fxz.
/System/app
/Vendor
/Firmware
/System/media.... stock boot animation/Dst animation.
Use Rom Manager fix perms for now. It has never failed me. Set them to all. Then run RM>fix permissions & reboot.
Permissions & ownership need to be set before use.
Rom Manager fix permissions is one good reason to have that app even if it did not WORK on our M, but it does.
Updated op.
So apps from "Data/App" can be deleted and still get the OTA, just don't delete apps from "System/App", is that correct?

2 things
1)You don't want to "delete" data apps & no need to root to uninstall them. Settings, apps, downloaded, select.... 2)Also the ones you mention sound like system apps?
I deleted them from the Data/App, so they would not be in my app drawer. And all of my system apps are still there, just looked.
Didn't think about disabling them, I got root happy, been to long without it, lol.

Dl #9 systemAPP!!!
I really want to stop the annoying system update notification on my Note 4. I think I could do it if I could find where it keep the actual .apk file. I can change the /system files through adb in recovery. Due to some of the apps I have to use I can't root my phone (titanium backup freeze is out) so I am looking for a way to do it manually.
Thanks!
