I don't have any specific re your device, but I have a Galaxy Tab E that did the same thing. Why yours is doing that may be the same reason the Tab E is. At about 11/21/17 the builds for the E quit booting, stuck at animation. You * might * try an older build, if that works, I'd say it's the same problem.
good luck.

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread for your device. Even though it states "Discontinued" on the title, you should be able to obtain some member guidance within it.

If all else fails, and you don't receive any responses from the above thread, you can always try to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

KillSwitch
Three different ways that I found to get rid of the KillSwitch
Through deactivating and then reactivating your google account/s.
Using the Hard Brick Recovery method.
Octopus/Octoplusbox.
Explanation
The one I actually tried was the Hard Brick Recovery Method (WillCracker), but
even after that I was still unable to bypass the KillSwitch. So I went back BoardDiag and decided to flash the System, UserData, and Cache since I still couldn't get into download mode.
After about 5-6 hours it was completed. I try booting up download mode and guess what?! KillSwitch is still there xD. I'm absolutely fustrated now and all I could think of is to flash the rest of the files that the HBRM didn't say anything about.
I started flashing in this order: Modem, Misc, Persist, and RCT. Everything is now flashed and I hope everything worksout.
I turn on the phone, waiting patiently. Bootloop over and over again, but guess what?! I tried download mode one last time before I was going to go ape $h!t. Then to my surprise the download mode screen turned on, I used the LG Flash Tool and I am now killswitch free.
KillSwitch did come back after a few updates, but I was able to enter in a pin code allowing me in the future to turn it off at will
Well thank you all for listening, just wanted to share my experience.
as my first post, I do apologize in advance if this is the wrong area for this.
Keep on keeping on xD
Can you tell me the exact order you flashed the phone using boardiag? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Good Day to all! I wont take too much of your time but please help me!
My Oneplus 3 suddenly bricked itself, I dont know how or why but it just powered off and then when I tried to boot it up it was hard bricked. Now I've managed to fix it by following the Mega Unbrick guide for Oneplus 3 and it boots up, but the problem is it crashes during boot, and it randomly crashes after a few minutes which then leads to the boot logo crash, I have to "let it rest" so to speak for a few minutes so that it would bypass the boot crashes. Once it got past the crashes some apps are not responding like Twitter, Messenger and so on. Stock apps are fine it's the newly downloaded ones that are not responding, I tried numerous factory resets using the stock recovery and TWRP but no luck.
I am on Nougat 7.1.1 on the latest OxygenOS version, Unlocked bootloader with systemless root. I haven't tried flashing a custom rom the only thing I tried to flash was the Stock Rom. I also noticed that the WiFi and the Data/Signal was particularly weaker since the messages would not load, I need to actually check the app for it to sync. When I got Messenger somehow working, the messages would not even load up.
Any ideas what the problem is? Any help is deeply appreciated, Thanks in Advance!

This sounds like an hardware issue, have you tried method 2 of the unbrick tool, perhaps you could try to re-download it, have you unzipped it? If it boots let it boot and then upgrade to a new OOS version and then you can do whatever you want. If it doesn't work after you followed my suggestions you might wanna contact Oneplus, don't worry even though your bootloader is unlocked you still have full warranty..

I did the method 2 of the unbrick tool, I've done it like twice or thrice now. I have the latest version of OOS, I am afraid to flash a custom rom because after it flashes in TWRP it immediately crashes, it does not even give me a chance to clear the dalvik or reboot. It crashes no reboot or anything.
But thank you I didn't expect anyone would reply well I regained my faith in humanity in forums
Sidenote: What custom rom would you suggest? or is the stock rom better?

I would suggest VertexOS. It's simple and really fast, EAS and Voxpopuli takes peformance per watt to the next level, if you like feature you might try Zenixx RR.

Okay thanks good citizen of XDA I'll try to flash a custom rom and I'll try to report back here ASAP
I request all to first please understand the problem and give me suggestions as this gets slightly bonkers.
Thanks in advance.
So I had my OnePlus3 A3003 repaired for water Damage from a professional non OnePlus service called Yaantra. They basically replaced the Mother Board is what they say.
I have no reason to doubt, the Phone works flawlessly, everything is working nicely, from the camera to the battery performance and charging and SOT, the performance is as expected.
Only it runs on Oxygen OS 3.1.2.
Now I first got an OTA update notification for 4.5.1 and I immediately started downloading and attempted install. It went through the whole cycle of installing smoothly and after the first reboot, it splashed a linux Penguin Logo and then turned off, never turned back on. I manually pressed the power button after a long time but it again showed the Penguin for a few seconds and powered off. I figured that the phone is bricked. (this time my boot loader was Locked)
I had to follow the 2nd Method of the Mega Unbrick guide and got my phone up and running back on 3.1.2
I still get the OTA update but this time i thought I'll download the latest stable build of 5.0.1 and install it via ADB sideload. with the appropriate recovery
The phone got bricked again.
Then I thought of Installing regular TWRP after unlocking bootloader and flashed 5.0.1, No luck. had to unbrick it again.
Then I tried bluspark.
Then I flashed Experience OS with the latest firmware. It went through the entire cycle and installed but this time after it turned off and on again I was greeted to a new error.
it was in red saying "Battery does not match" in English and then in some Asian language. I was able to unbrick from that state as well.
After that I have tried Lineage OS but with same result. I get "Battery does not match"
Then I unbricked the device and i tried #*808# and checked Charger option. it says "itech_3000mah" that doesn't sound original, is it?
Basically no matter what I flash my phone gets bricked.
With Custom ROMs I get the "Battery does not match error"
With Official ROM I get the penguin Logo.
I've tried all sorts of Combination of Recovery and ROMs to no luck.
So far the only thing I haven't tried is flashing another Kernal.
Have to come back to 3.1.2 after unbricking which works flawlessly every time with no problems AT ALL. I wish to upgrade to the latest Official build of OOS (but i am ok with unofficial as well)
Alright, this is a new one.
Have you checked your system information with the app "AIDA64"? Download that app, and post a screenshot of what's under the System tab.

Okay, although AIDA64 doesn't indicate that your Motherboard is a Chinese mockup Mobo, I still suspect that the "Penguin" logo is some kind of third-party under the hood software.
Have you tried the unbrick tool which includes 5.x.x?

Oh I thought there was only the 3.1.2 available in the unbrick tool.
I would appreciate a link for the 5.x.x unbricking tool.
Which should hopefully include all he required firmware and recovery stuff.
What are other ways I can know if my Mobo is a Chinese mock-up?

Hi firstly, you shouldnt have trusted your OnePlus3 with 3rd party service like Yaantra. After service they will deny any changes to your hardware and ask stupid questions "isn't your phone receiving call when we gave it back?"
After seeing your posts, it seems that they didn't flash the device properly. I seriously doubt your battery has been Jacked and replaced with some 3rd party mockup.
A simple search in forums can lead you to 5.x.x unbricking tool.
And your final question. If your phone doesn't bootup even after this, most probably you're dealing with some kind of mockup in the chipset.
Did you solve this issue? If so post how here so that others can use it later.
Thanks

An official technician from OnePlus told me that fake batteries don't work well / won't find with OnePlus at all so there is 99% chance that it's not a mock-up.

The penguin is the old school linux kernel panic screen. It used to come on when kernel panic prevented the device from booting.
What I am thinking is that is not the right board for that device, which explains the battery error. The custom rom battery error could be gotten around I am sure. Just so it boots.

And should I flash a new kernal to get around the Linux penguin warning?
What are my options other than the mega unbricking with a newer version of OOS

Sure. You will have to hook up the device to the pc while it is trying to boot and grabbing a logcat. This will tell you exactly what is failing. The build a rom that goes around the issue.
To be honest. I don't know what will work for sure but the logcat will tell you just what you need to know.
Piece of advice. If you are gonna do repairs like this. Do them yourself. Even if you fail you will be sure of the parts at least which you can't be with amature repair techs. Too many use knock off parts.

Am not that much of an expert. I don't know about using logcat but I just read a little about it and am going to try.

Should I also take the phone to an official OnePlus technician and ask them to check if the chipset/battery is a mock up, they should be able to tell right?

That depends on how good they are but to be honest if it is a really good fake then it may fool even the best. But it cant hurt.
Actually I got stuck in the same situation. I also tried different ROMs but with custom ones I get the Replace Battery error and with official Roms I get the penguin. Is there any way to get rid of the Battery error by modifying the kernel or something?
You've a motherboard of OP3T not OP3
Try oneplus 3t full ota
Cheers
I'm not completely brand new to flashing with custom roms, but I sometimes go 2-3 years running stock, so when I do come back I have forgotten everything and it feels like starting over.
So far I have achieved the following:
1 - backed up device
2 - reset device back to stock
3 - flashed stock image using Heimdall
Unfortunately after all that I am not sure if I have made any progress. It just took my phone back to factory settings.. My storage is full, my SDCard is empty and I can't push a file to the sdcard because I don't know how to reference the right path.
I tried flashing a TWRP recovery.img file to the recovery partition, and it indicated success. But when I boot into recovery it looks exactly like it did before. I get no TWRP gui interface. The TWRP app has no official build for this device, so is unusable. I also tried installing Magisk but got errors and just uninstalled it.
Frankly I don't know what to do yet. I'm not sure the device is officially 'rooted' or not. I'm not sure what to do next. Do I flash an Enigma Android 6 image? Do I have to do that before I can update to Android 9?

Yes, that's where I got my twrp recovery.img file from. I'll go back through those steps and ask in the thread if I have further issues. Thanks.
Typically there is a reboot into system after flashing twrp. Some stock ROM replace twrp with stock recovery in that case.
Known workarounds:
Flash twrp to boot partition also
Remove battery after flashing twrp
Use windows Odin and unchecked reboot
Do some key tricks to force recovery during reboot.
Once twrp booted, it normally does tricks to not get overwritten.

OK, bad jokes about Nordic deities aside. Try using ODIN rather than Heimdall to flash TWRP. In ODIN, make sure the automatic reboot on exit feature is turned OFF. After exiting ODIN, MANUALLY reboot the thing into recovery mode using whatever multiple button combination is required, and you "should" find it starting up TWRP for you. ASSUMING that is so, then power off the device and re-start it. it "should" now be working correctly, meaning with whatever ROM you have in place and TWRP as the recovery. And if THAT worked, you can flash SU using TWRP if you are not already rooted and you are good to go. Good Luck.
I now have managed to finally get TWRP flashed. It worked this time. Could not begin to tell you what I did differently...
I managed to flash the custom ROM and am now dealing with two remaining issues - a password I am being asked for that I never set, and getting the right version of opengapps flashed.

FYI - the only version of Odin I could find for Linux is a glitchy Java version. All the tutorials say to put things in the 'AP Slot' - and I can clearly see that in screenshots. But my version didn't have an AP slot. The graphics were misaligned and I finally gave up. I did manage to flash a ROM using ADB sideload. So there's that.

Yeah, Odin can be more than a little bit "glitchy" on Linux boxes. Surprised you found one that worked at all, to be totally candid. I suggest to folks that they just beg, borrow, or steal 15 minutes on a Windows box and do it the easy way. Yes, I know "windows" is a very long "four letter word" in many circles, but sometimes you just bite the bullet and take the path of least resistance. The IMPORTANT question is: is your problem solved ??

Good question. Do I have LineageOS on my device? Yes.
Is it a usable version? Uh, no. My device is now reporting to be a Galaxy J7 and the WiFi is useless. This was from an Enigma ROM. So at least I have managed to figure out how to flash the device and TWRP recovery is working. Now to find a better ROM.
I guess the question I have now is this: *IS THERE* an actual, working Android 9 PIE ROM for the J2 Prime (Grand Prime+) model?

Hui. Quick search in XDA shows: there is probably no aosp based ROM for your device. So you flashed a ROM for a different device? You should learn a bit about model names and codenames. And be glad to not have bricked your phone.

Well, it's from here on XDA, and it was advertised as being ported for my model specifically. Just surprised to see the other model info in 'About' - I agree that Pie seems to be non-existent for this phone. What about Oreo? So far every single article I find on the 'net is just click-bait.
Sometimes it is better to stay on stock ROM. With twrp you can install magisk or xposed or nanodroid.
Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my wife's OP3 that is driving me nuts.
Her phone runs stock OS without any changes but with an unlocked bootloader (just to be on the safe side i like to have an unlocked bootloader on all our devices).
I'm not sure if its related but I'm including it anyways she was playing a game on her phone and then she received a call and she answered it and tried to switch the call to speakerphone and the phone started rebooting right after booting the OS after 2-5 sec i would say "factory data reset" (see attached screenshot) and would reboot to the recovery.
then i would boot the phone again and the issue repeats itself.
so i used fastboot boot twrp.img to boot a recovery image and run a nadroid backup to a USB OTG just in case the phone is really hosed or whatnot.
I downloaded stock zip from oneplus's site and flashed it again from TWRP just to make sure its not some funky issue that happened to the os.
I even factory reset the phone from stock recovery and the issue would happen on the new phone setup wizard.
after a bunch of fiddling around I've flashed LineageOS 16 nightly and the phone boots normally and is fully usable but when i try to make or receive a call the phone app freezes and then crashes also sound doesn't seem to work when i try to play videos from youtube for example.
Any ideas what is the issue and how i can resolve it ?
thanks a bunch !!

so i used fastboot boot twrp.img to boot a recovery image and run a nadroid backup to a USB OTG just in case the phone is really hosed or whatnot.

Take a backup of your personal files and then wipe system, data, internal storage and both caches. Then flash OOS 5.0.8 and without adding any apps, check the calling function. If it still happens, then most likely a hardware issue.

If it's a hardware problem which part should I replace?
I already ordered a battery before this issue started and I was planning on replacing it once it gets here maybe I can replace one of the parts in order to resolve this issue

You will need to replace the main board if the issue persist.
Same problem here
Hello mate, I've got the exact same problem with my wife's OP3. What did you do eventually? Did you find out? Please help. Thanks

Hmmm quite strange that you're having the same issue.
I didnt find a solution yet i gave her a temp replace phone that we had in a drawer somewhere.
Did your wife do anything out of the ordinary when it happened? are you having the same issue that LOS works but stock rom shows factory reset?
thanks.

Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my wife's OP3 that is driving me nuts.
Her phone runs stock OS without any changes but with an unlocked bootloader (just to be on the safe side i like to have an unlocked bootloader on all our devices).

No, She did not do anything out of the ordinary. But weirdly I have exactly the same things happening. Lineage works but no sound. Everything else factory resets. I have tried quite a few ROM'swithout any luck. So far the only ROM which worked for some time(1day) was 6.0.1 . I have spent quite a long time on this flashing various ROM and dont know what to do now.

Update: @ireaper4592 might have a point here. I have gone one level up and I tried msm v3.0 tool, thus doing a complete reinstall including firmware. The factory resetting stopped but the sound was not working (I thought that it could be the ROM and the security patches). So I updated to the latest ROM available from Oneplus and evrything has been working since. I did this last night so not sure how long this is going to stay like that. I will give it some time and update later. Wife is using it now!
what you will need to do is download the oneplus 3 recovery tool and put the phone into qualcolm mode and restore the phone that way. here is a link https://www.androidexplained.com/oneplus-3-unbrick-return-stock/

its really good to know.
did you have to wipe the internal storage for this process to work ?
Do you have a guide that you've used to get this working?
Thanks in advanced.

That tool/procedure will reset your phone. So you will lose everything on the phone. Take a backup beforehand.
The link posted in the post above yours contains the guide as well as the tools. It also has links to the original guide here on XDA.

I cant believe it i was sure this was a hardware issue which ended up being a software one that the MSM tool fixed.
When I have a few minutes to spare i'll write a full post on how I ended up resolving it with step by step instructions and how I did it without any dataloss.
Thank you for all your help!
