Dear Friends,
Itching to order a Note 7. Based on what we saw with the S7 line, I am assuming that the Snapdragon US models will be locked down with their BLs. That I believe just leaves me with the option of N930F (UK/Europe model) or the N930FD (South East Asian) model.
For the life of me, I don't understand why the Dual-SIM model is cheaper than the single one, probably cause it's geared for Asian markets? However, from what I understand they both have EXACTLY the SAME hardware and Radios, am I correct?
So the simple question is:
For a person that values Root and unlocked Bootloader, that lives in the US, uses AT&T (could switch to T-Mobile) what is the BEST variant for me to order? N930F or N930FD?
Second most important question: Can the ROMs developed for N930F be also used on N930FD? And the same goes for Stock firmware flashes, in case things go south from the Rooting trail?
Would appreciate any prompt input guys, thank you!

The Canadian variant "should " also be exynos and unlocked.

I would say get the FD cause its unlocked and exenos which has better battery life.

Thanks for your response friend! Would the FD had any less compatibility in the US or less development, ROM, or stock firmware support than the regular F?

Thank you for your response as well, do you see any upside of getting the Canadian variant over the International F or FD one? The latter are cheaper in the US, I think...

Its basically the international version, comes unlocked. Should be stock firmware. Not sure about development but compatibility is the same as the s7 edge. So it should work. At least I know it works on t-mobile. Not sure about at&t. It does not work with verizon or sprint. cause they cmda.

Thanks again for your response bud. So again, you don't think the FD would be any less compatible than the regular F in the US? Trying to see out of the International models, if there is any reason to get the Dual-SIM model over the the regular single SIM model or not? Other than the obvious difference of using two SIMs, I am interested in knowing if one has any advantage over the other in terms of Development support on XDA, Warranty issues in the US (UK model vs. the Asian model (Dual SIM)), and any radio differences between the F and FD?

Not 100% sure on the internal differences didn't really do research into that. As for warranty there basically is none. Its the main downside. I don't think there are any radio differences, but don't quote me. You are basically paying for dual sim and unlocked "vanilla" international note 7. USA versions are locked and may have rooting/development issues but will be more popular of model.

Hi Guys,
I'm tired of asking for more and more details and not enough answers. Can you guys help me come up with a bottom line?
If I need an unlocked Bootloader and custom development support and using the phone in the US on AT&T or T-Mobile, which variant should I get? The regular N930F or the Dual SIM version the N930FD?
Thanks for your help!

Dude....we are so sorry that your just so tired of asking questions and not getting enough answers..
NOT!
If you want help i suggest losing that type of attitude...you come off sounding very entitled which is not something which is looked at fondly here.
Now since I can answer you question I will despite what you wrote.
given past history across a few devices Ive the regular F version seem to see more development than the dual sim model.
Dual sim does get some support but always muchess than the F version.
Unless you need dual sim I would recommend the regular F version hands down.
Tmo does have at least one diff\extra frequencie..(band 12 i think) than AT&T so likely the F version will work better on ATT but there are guys running on Tmo with it.
Id take a closer look at compatibility with Tmo before dropping your hard earned cash on it though...always good to do some homework before buying.
All that said and as I mentioned in your quote the Canadian version is also exynos and an exact match band wise for ATT. May be easier to buy from here than an international version
Hole that helps some?

Hey bud, thanks for your detailed response and that seemed to have been my inkling too. Haha I apologize if my tone sounded entitled. I kinda felt that it could be misinterpreted that way, as I wrote it, but I thought you guys will be cool and probably get what I meant. What I meant was, I'm tired of myself asking the question questions and letting or from pulling the trigger on an order ?. I'm an XDA Senior Member since 2008 or 2009. Check all my previous posts, I'm far from being entitled and an ass, really LOL! But thanks for living up to the greatness of this community and still answering my question, despite being annoyed ?. My apologies to anyone else who interprets my post the same way as you did ?!
You guys are the best, proud to be a member of this community ?!
Has anyone actually physically checked? I saw the Samsung chats, but nothing officially stating they are or are not locked.
Yes, FRP lock is on and no option to turn it off anywhere like on the Exynos model.
I don't see why samsung, and if not them the companies, have to be dicks about this and screw over their US clients.

It is shame. One of the reasons that I switched to Tmobile was because their Samsung phones always had unlocked bootloaders.
I learned my lesson with the s7 edge and didn't buy the phone right away this time around. My Note 7 with root was amazing, but we all know what happen with it.

I feel your pain. I switched from at&t for that very same reason and now all us models have locked bootloaders, but with all the customization you could do to these phones rooting and flashing isn't really necessary for me anymore. I just like the phone all around. It's a great phone. [emoji4]

I had both TMobile branded S7 edges and international models as well. I found that I actually preferred the TMobile version for volte, rcs messaging, native video calling and a few more small percs. Yeah the international models was bootloader unlockable and had faster updates but I had to do so many work arounds to get it close to how I wanted and yet it still never did. I could have rooted and got everything I wanted but I actually use Samsung Pay and that'd kill that. To each their own. I also recall the TMobile S7 edge and note 7's having a locked bootloader still eventually got root.

True the international versions lack some features but depending on your use they may or may not matter..for me I could care less about any of those so no biggie but others may need them.
Id rather have root, twrp and roms etc
The root on the s7 and note 7 snaps was via leaked engineering firmware and it wasnt ideal...buggy, slow and just a general pain to deal with.

Yep, I had the s7 edge and rooted it but it wasn't the same as when I had the T-Mobile version of the phone. It was a pain. These phones are great and I rather use it to its fullest. I also use android pay and want to use samsung pay so for me I'm good without unlocked billiards for now. I have a bunch of phones I have rooted that I can get my flashaholic tendency out. Lol. My pixel gives me that pure android feel so having a vendor feel is ok with me. I will be going back and fourth. I also don't know how having an international version will affect the gigabit network update when it comes out.

You get what you choose. I chose a carrier model because it is superior in network quality. I can't root my primary phone anymore because my work policies flag rooted phones automatically and I stop syncing. For my playground, I have Pixel XL. Fastest updates, unlocked everything. For a reliable phone I have TMobile S8+. Like i said, you get what you pay for and pick up.
I mean hey sure the bootloader is locked, but once the right person gets one of these in their hands Im sure there will be an exploit. Just gotta wait patiently good things come to those who wait!

While it is software written by humans and anything is possible. S7 never got an unlocked bootloader. We got root with the eng_boot.imgs, but never an unlocked bl.
But I'm holding hope. The community is full of extremely clever people.
Really sucks, I recall the heyday of the Galaxy Note II and SIII, man back then there were like 200 ROM's out, Touchwiz, AOSP, CyanogenMod, etc... Root and Recovery available the first week the phones released.
And I'm talking the U.S. carrier phones too. Not just the international.
And then they all stopped after the Galaxy S4 came out. They released a firmware and locked the **** down like a Navy sub going deep. Note 3 too LOCKED. And forever the good days long gone.
Except the T-Mobile Note 5 was rooted and ROM. But that was a freak rarity.
Now root and recovery are things of dreams for Galaxy phones.
---------- Post added at 01:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:16 PM ----------
Whole reason I moved to T-Mobile two years ago, was for the unlocked bootloaders that T-Mo was famous for, even when Verizon and ATT didn't allow that anymore. The Galaxy Note 5 was their last unlocked phone, since then, the S7, and Note7 were LOCKED, and looks like the S8 is too.
Glory days are gone.
Almost like the Jailbreak scene, which has faded bad, and there's only a stable JB released maybe once a year or every 18 months.
I've heard plenty of people comment that all snapdragon variants will not be able to unlock the bootloader. As far as I can tell though this has just been speculation based on the s7 and s8. Is there anyone who has an unlocked model that can confirm they can't unlock the bootloader?
Additionally, if anyone has the T-Mobile variant can you confirm you can't unlock the bootloader on it.

With respect to updates you're likely correct, that model will not get the 1st updates. Firmware is typically model specific but it's true you'll see fewer custom ROM's compared to Exynos devices. There's no such thing as a perfect device so then it comes down to what are the primary functions you plan on using? I'm into gaming in which Snapdragon has a clear edge over Exynos but I still wanted an unlocked bootloader for future modifications. So far all US devices are limited to 64gb Internal Memory, not enough for me. Also I travel globally a few times a year so Dual SIM's are a must and not an option in the USA. Samsung Pay was an issue but that has been resolved and now works in the USA on Snapdragon variants, not sure if that's the case with Exynos powered devices. To me the only downside to the device is no voLTE or WiFi Calling but even without those features I don't have issues when communicating via voice calls. As far as not having a warranty it's never come back to bite me on my S6, S7 or S8 but I'm careful with a device, they're too expensive nowadays not to handle with care. One more thing I've noticed in the posts related to International Galaxy devices, Exynos powered units seem to have more bugs. Could be that's due to, at least on this forum more International variants have Exynos chipsets. No doubt a following post will tout "I have Exynos and it works fine", which is likely the case for most owners. Only time will tell.

Exynos versions get far mote frequent OTA updates as compared to snapdrqgons.. they can be typicallly 4 or 5 versions ahead of the north american versions.
This in my opinion could contribute to more bugs as these updates would not be as rigourously tested I wouldn't think.
And as you said there will be people who say their exynos works fine, i have had exynos versions of the s7 edge, note 7 and s8 plus and can say i never noticed any issues. ?

Just because you can turn on OEM-Unlock in developer settings, it doesn't mean it actually unlocks the bootloader, just a few higher lever operations. That's been like that since the S6. As a test try to flash a custom recovery or kernel, and most likely it will fail on the US versions, OEM on or off.

Not sure why you quoted me as I said I didn't have the S10, but you're also not exactly correct, either. I did have anS7, S8, and an S9 as well as a Note 8, Note9, and Note 10. The allow OEM unlock option is NOT available in the developer options on any of those devices (of course speaking of US models. And if I'm understanding correctly, the bootloader has been successfully unlocked on the 5G model. I could be wrong, as I couldn't care less about unlocking bootloader's, but that's just what I read. I will defer to @elliwigy and his expertise in this matter though.

Sorry, not sure why I quoted you, must have been half asleep. lol
Anyway there hasn't been an unlocked bootloader on a US device since the S6 (Tmo and Spr only), to verify if the OEM-Unlock does anything at all, try to flash a custom recovery or kernel, which most likely will fail on the US versions, OEM on or off.
Hello I am coming from a Pixel XL 2 that I had root and so on. I haven't been on a Samsung since the Note 3. Anyways as I stated before is there root available for the Verizon note 10+ 5G ? I am sorry could not find anything on here. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
No root options are available.

you dont lol..
also to add you cant find anything on it bcuz its not possible
Root is possible on s10 5g. They have unlocked bootloaders. Whether its possible on note 10 5g I don't know yet. Does it have OEM unlock option in developer settings?
Honestly if it is unlocked, it's a good option for Verizon customers.

Well let me rephrase that. I guess I'm looking to find out what note 10+ phone I would have to get in order to have root and to be on their Verizon network with all the features they carry like volte and so on. Plus 5G but 5G is not needed if I can't have root.

As far as I know it doesn't have a unlock OEM bootloader option under developer options. Unless I am doing something wrong or overlooking it.

If it's not present then the V variant is probably locked down. Hopefully t mobile version is unlock since it's a completely different modem, hopefully they just use the n variant that is unlocked.

When has T-Mobile US used the N version of any Samsung phone?
Idk but I hope someone can figure out how to obtain root here soon for the Verizon 5g version (unlikely) or I might return the device and then idk what version I should get that will obtain root and play well with Verizon and hopefully have 5g. But will start with root first if needed.

Sprint does for 5g, this is tmobiles first 5g. Let's hope its international unlocked with T-Mobile apps since it's using the same "5g" chipset.
If not, cool, not a deal breaker but ever since Sprint has, it's given a few people some hope.
Verizon though is definitely locked if there's no eom unlock under developer settings.

Have a source on that? I'm not seeing any N models. SM-G977P is sprints S10 5G model....
The Note 10 Plus has root capabilities if it uses the Exnos chipset. The US & China use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset & as far as I've read, there is no root exploit. To add to the problem, my Note 10 Plus is a 5G model with the Snapdragon. Is this impossible to root or is it a matter of somebody finding an exploit or workaround in the future?
I also have a Galaxy S4 without a SIM (it was originally a Verizon phone before I escaped their slimy clutches) that is fully rooted & runs more custom kernel android configurations than the original Android 4.1. I have an app that uses VoIP to give it phone capabilities for the ultimate burner phone. But, there is only so much enhancement you can do to a 2015 phone & cpu speed & memory are antiquated, though I've put in a more powerful battery & maxed out the microSD.

If you want root you are better off going and getting a different phone. While technically possible, root for the snapdragon note 10s is going to be very difficult and time consuming. I'm not even sure if anyone is working on it at the moment. Even if someone is as I said it is going to be highly difficult and they may never be able to find an exploit they can use.
What about the the N975F version? I can see my oem unloxk8, but its greyed out and I can't toggle it on. What can I do about this?

Maybe use the search function and ask in the appropriate thread?
Usually China's version is unlockable, as is the Latin American Qualcomm that usually comes out later. Until the customer base pushes Samsung to make all their phone bootloader unlockable this is just how it's going to be.
You are stuck give up root or find a unlocked device that supports Verizon.
Or give up on Verizon.
No such thing as not possible with such a device it can't be that protected from some intrusive sh.t. Last time someone said not possible, they did few months after with the 'fuzzing' or whatever it was and got a gymbag filled with fat stacks for their service. Depends who gets paid by who for what. Not even 'root key on HSM' can stop whoever knows what's up.
At least get the CPU from a different brand with unlocked bootloader, to resolder on the board to be able to downgrade/have some swapped PBL.
How much does it cost around the world to swap that CPU to be able to have unlocked and rooted software ? No idea about the de-knox-ing the later boot stages.
